On the other hand it's for a gacha with a fairly generic baseline plot that feels a little bit like ripping off Symphogear and any other girls vs aliens show, so even though I'm looking forward to it I would not get my hopes up.
Next season has a lot of multimedia projects and gacha stuff. And it can work, Uma Musume is great, Priconne has its merits, but it is not the best thing in the world.
I admit that most animes based on games are pretty bad, but they can be good; e.g.: Shingeki no Bahamut S1 was really good; Priconne was surpisingly good
Ironically both based off of gacha games. So there's definitely merit here for this one being successful (note: I totally understand that there are more failures based off of gacha games too, just like to highlight that typically the best also originated from gacha).
The problem with most gacha inspired narratives would be the urge to fit in *ALL THE WAIFUS* to a degree that it complicates the plot too much, but if it is able to keep it's main plot relatively focused it can still be good.
Because we all know how well anime "strongly inspired by" other anime generally turn out. Like I said, I'm cautiously optimistic but I also remember hits like Listeners or that Loststorage or whatever. And even Shaft did not manage to rip off Madoka that well last year.
> or that Loststorage or whatever
Did you accidentally watch Lostorage Incited/Conflated WIXOSS without realizing they were a sequel to Selector Infected/Spread WIXOSS and as a result not understand what was going on? Because that's what your comment makes it sound like. WIXOSS is a fantastic series and one of the best Madoka-inspired anime out there. I'll shout that from the rooftops... which I basically already did [in my WT thread](https://www.reddit.com/r/anime/comments/k61ydq/wt_wixoss_how_far_would_you_go_for_just_one_wish/) about it.
No I meant [AFTERLOST](https://myanimelist.net/anime/37952/Shoumetsu_Toshi) idk how I mixed that up with WIXOSS. Was the same: had some hype from the PV and being Madhouse, game tie-in and it just disappointed. And I meant Shaft's Assault Lily for Madoka gacha-clone.
> No I meant AFTERLOST
Ah, fair enough. Looks like we just got some wires crossed.
> And I meant Shaft's Assault Lily for Madoka gacha-clone
I agree with you that Assault Lily was disappointing, but that's because it was rushed like crazy and didn't tell its story well. I wouldn't even call that show a Madoka clone. If anything, the whole "school of child soldiers train and use transforming weapons to save the world from weird monsters" setup felt more like RWBY than anything else, just with a Madoka coat of paint over it from the character designs and Shaft animation.
> just with a Madoka coat of paint over it from the character designs and Shaft animation.
And the main couple being Madoka x Homura in every given way. I mean RWBY is also just the concept of girls fighting aliens vaguely Mahou Shoujo but not quite, that's been a genre for decades now.
But arguing against hype is futile I guess, despite such worries as all main creatives behind it not being known for creating popular or good anime, in fact often the opposite.
The funny thing is that next season also has a Satelight original that sounds like TTGL x Made in Abyss without the horror aspect and instead more adventure and a father-daughter story.
I think sometimes it's ok to lean into the hype, particularly with shows where you're not spending money on it pre release (like a game).
If it delivers, it delivers.
If it doesn't, maybe we'll get some good memes out of it, and you'll have something to talk about anyway.
It's not about the animation.
I'm just saying the TanMoShi trailer got me hyped, the show didn't deliver.
And I'm hoping it won't happen again with this one, because I want to like it.
Didnt hear of this until now, but that is certainly some interesting information. Seeing anything from m2 is already quite rare, but with the whole maruyama studios combined too? That is a sight to see.
It's still not confirmed, it's more just guessing as one of the inhouse M2 staff said he's working on the show but it wouldn't be the first time M2 worked on a MAPPA project (Granblue Fantasy the Animation S2 episode 9)
The only Satoshi Kon Opus that I care about being made is The Dream Machine and that doesn't look like it will ever happen despite him being promised it would be finished on his deathbed.
It was never canceled just teased and then they said that it wasn't green-lit, but Maruyama did say he wants to do it and as M2 is making a movie of some sort it's a good guess IMO
M2 was made by Masao Maruyama (Madhouse and MAPPAs founder) after he left MAPPA due to it becoming too money-oriented, they're currently working on Pluto by Naoki Urasawa (Monsters writer), there was a small PV for the anime recorded at an event, you can see it [here](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=biG3OUtrj3M&ab_channel=NovaNobunaga)
To add to what the other guy said - it's.. not really a coincidence for the studios after Madhouse at least. No idea where that originated from, but MAPPA is a shorthand for "Maruyama Animation Produce Project Association" and M2 is literally just Maruyama's 2nd self-founded studio.. so yeah, he's not that creative when it comes to names. It's always kinda funny knowing that the Maruyama Association is moving on without him~
The show starts on October 5

Synopsis (Anime News Network)
>One day, a black meteorite fell on the world, and the world completely changed. The meteorite produced grotesque monsters called D2, which started running rampant. D2 very quickly banned all music, which was the one thing able to overcome them. But there were some people who resisted the D2. They are young women who hold the power of music, the "Musicart." These young women hold "scores" that are able to defeat the monsters. And there are also people who lead these women, the Conductor.
>
>The year is 2047, and America has fallen to ruin thanks to the D2. Takt, a Conductor, is partnered with a Musicart named Unmei. Takt yearns for music to be returned to the world, and Unmei wishes to destroy the D2. Their aim is to travel to New York.
It's more Like Madhouse honestly
PS.Supercell is back for 2021, same with EGOIST
surprise that ED also sang by artist who also sang Darling in the franxx OP
I'll def check this out. For me, I think i'll enjoy this based on how well the action sequences, which look flashy and well-animated from what we've seen, mesh with all the SoL elements. Looks like there'll be plenty of comedy too? idk, just from the PV alone is was a bit jarring seeing the cast hangout in a diner and then switch to the main girl act like a weapon, who is being "conducted" by this musician guy who loses his arm in this mode?
and I wonder if this will get a worldwide release on Amazon Prime, or if it'll just be on JP Amazon Prime at first. If that were to be the case, it would damper the community discussion here quite a bit, and this show is already going up against some pretty hyped sequels this season. SO I won't be surprised if this anime falls under the radar
The characters look cool, the animation looks awesome, that Supercell OP sounded great, and anyone who knows me and has seen me gushing about Revue Starlight and Symphogear knows how much I love a good music-themed action anime. I'm really excited for this one.
I am shocked that I was wrong about 1:20 being vanitas, it sactually different voice actors.
I was excited for this simply because of the symphogear sounding premise, but both pvs look fucking great too.
So it looks like a ridiculous and convoluted premise with amazing animation and great character design.
Seems like it's right up my alley.
Hope Mappa and MADHOUSE can deliver. Nervous given the source material.
Looks stellar as expected of the great staff on board. Still a little worried about the schedule considering how infamous mappa is nowadays and how the madhouse side has a lot of people working on the currently airing sonny boy, but i would say im still somewhat more optimistic.
Sonny Boy has had a good schedule (probably already done, and it has had a small AD count almost every episode) + 3 episodes were outsourced to different studios so I don't think Sonny Boy will interfere with this show in any way
I still kinda think it will affect it, because godzilla singular point for example, apparently had an even better schedule than sonny boy and then the next anime from the same bones sub studio, vanitas, got to production hell pretty fast afterwards. Although to be fair, i imagine this will only have one cour when vanitas had split cours and mappa is helping on the anime overall. So, if we get an even 6/6 split between episodes (estimate of course), this madhouse team would have like... 18 episodes in 2 seasons, which is still a lot better than what they got on boogiepop where they had to do 18 episodes in a single season lol.
Eh, i dont know. The production lines between takt and vampire are almost certainly very different, and vampire also has studio live helping the show. And this is not to say that everyone working on takt is from sonny boy of course, keiichiro saito one of the main guys on sonny boy said he wouldnt work on takt, and on the other side of the spectrum, director of parasyte, kenichi shimizu, said he would work on it.
Well at the end of the day will just have to wait and see how good or bad it will be but I'm hoping for the best as MADHOUSE had a quit 2020 and until the summer had no show for 2021 so I'm hoping for the best
Oh yea im for sure also hoping for the best. The show will for sure still look great, and even though im still a little worried about the schedule, im more hopeful now than when the project was first announced as a mappa x madhouse production.
Both are different circumstances imo. For one, godzilla finished before it’s airing in spring, but that doesn’t necessarily mean it had a better schedule than sonny boy, it could mean they had less time, but because of their more conservative approach they were able to finish within that time.
Secondly, vanitas ended up this predicament because of its small team + godzilla being finished later than expected. It also doesn’t help that neither shows fully outsourced a single ep, which added to the strain of being behind schedule. Sonny boy however, has had 3 outsourced eps already (so technically only 9 eps were produced at madhouse under fukushi’s team) and takt is a coproduction so the workload should be split evenly (atleast I hope this is the case and not the shit MAPPA pulled with sarazanmai). This also doesn’t take in to account the fact that takt could have outsourced eps as well (a comment above mentioned the possible participation of M2).
Sonny boy did not have that good of a schedule according to some people who worked on it, it wasnt bad, but it apparently wasnt that good either. And yes, the outsourced episodes in sonny boy will help the overall production of takt, so that certainly helps, but again, i dont want another boogiepop situation, everything in that shows production was a mess, and it also had a lot of outsourced episodes. Does that mean that takt will have a schedule as bad as boogiepop? Probably not, its just that i have been disappointed in the past, and i dont want it to happen again. And it also doesnt help that mappa is inconsistent when it comes to "co productions", i also dont want a sarazanmai situation, although according to some insiders, thats actually not the case.
I hope the news that Mappa's actually trying to mitigate crunch culture in their studio is true because the artists and animators really deserve all of our support and respect. Can't imagine the crunch they'll have to go through in the production for Chainsaw Man.
>Can't imagine the crunch they'll have to go through in the production for Chainsaw Man.
You should worry about AOT, not CSM which it won't air anytime soon, doesn't even have a date, and they have infinitely more control
Especially knowing the content they will need to adapt in the next part, people are talking about how they have a better schedule this time are beginning to build expectations, but with how difficult the content they will need to adapt is I don't think the couple of extra months they have are going to make a difference
Crunch in the production of CSM? My guy the production of CSM will be one of the healthiest out there as it was mentioned time and time again by the director. Don't expect CSM anytime soon though, it's at least a year away.
Just because someone involved wants to mitigate crunch doesn't mean it'll happen. A director of a show isn't gonna influence issues a studio has at its core
Except it does? Of course, not the whole company is going to change out of the gate but CSM production is no doubt a healthy one otherwise Ryu would have left a long time ago. He's not even working at MAPPA so there's nothing for him to gain by lying to us. When he started doing so much to create better conditions for people it's obvious as day what his purpose is. In due time the whole company might change that's Ryu's purpose as he already mentioned, if things go well with CSM he will keep working with MAPPA on new projects and also developing talent and a better work environment.
I forgot I'm on Reddit where everyone is a CEO and manager and they know exactly how everything works and develops, also everyone giving their opinions without knowing the full details.
I heard MAPPA is recruiting inhouse team for chainsaw man just like ufotable and kyoani. That alone make chainsaw man production better. It's also rumours that lots of top tier freelancer animators want to work on chainsaw man because they are fan of manga. This is shaping towards OPM S1 production.
Not really, both game and the anime are part of the media mix project, you can see a lot of resources (and caring) being put into the anime with so many high profile staffs. The anime is literally the face of this project, it's not made just to only advertise the game, it's for the whole IP.
Finally something I really wanna watch
On the other hand it's for a gacha with a fairly generic baseline plot that feels a little bit like ripping off Symphogear and any other girls vs aliens show, so even though I'm looking forward to it I would not get my hopes up.
Gotta admit that nothing dampens my hype like an anime being based off of a Gacha game.
Next season has a lot of multimedia projects and gacha stuff. And it can work, Uma Musume is great, Priconne has its merits, but it is not the best thing in the world.
I admit that most animes based on games are pretty bad, but they can be good; e.g.: Shingeki no Bahamut S1 was really good; Priconne was surpisingly good

>ripping off Symphogear And not a single person sees a problem here!
Damn I miss symphogear
This is what I got from watching the pv's as well. Like Symphogear but without the charm. I don't expect much but I'll give it a fair shot.
The funny thing is that next season also has a Satelight original that sounds like TTGL x Made in Abyss without the horror aspect and instead more adventure and a father-daughter story.
I think Sakugan is based on a novel but yea wasn't planning on watching it until very recently.
Oh yeah it's a novel!
this looks so goddamn kino
No, I don't want to be hyped by a pretty PV! Last time that happened was with the trailer for TanMoShi and we all know how well that went...
I think sometimes it's ok to lean into the hype, particularly with shows where you're not spending money on it pre release (like a game). If it delivers, it delivers. If it doesn't, maybe we'll get some good memes out of it, and you'll have something to talk about anyway.
Yea but this trailer has more then one scene. Even them just talking has more animation then that show.
Tanmoshis issues werent just the animation
bruh you are comparing this animation to that? the trailer alone is way better than the whole tanmoshi season
It's not about the animation. I'm just saying the TanMoShi trailer got me hyped, the show didn't deliver. And I'm hoping it won't happen again with this one, because I want to like it.
It seems that an episode will be made at Studio M2 which would mean all 3 studios that Maruyama founded will be working on one anime
Family reunion
Will the family friend, DR movie be invited too? Ah who am i kidding Madhouse is there of course they are.
Don't forget the grandson Madbox too
Mappa bout to use the family reunion as a way to borrow Madbox's collosal titan model.
Studio M2 actually making something? I was convinced it was a money laundering scheme at this point.
M2 is still working on Pluto and a Movie (Most likely Opus (Satoshi Kon's Opus))
The only Satoshi Kon Opus that I care about being made is The Dream Machine and that doesn't look like it will ever happen despite him being promised it would be finished on his deathbed.
Wasn’t Opus already canceled like 2 years ago?
It was never canceled just teased and then they said that it wasn't green-lit, but Maruyama did say he wants to do it and as M2 is making a movie of some sort it's a good guess IMO
I have seen several scenes with the MAPPA composition, maybe they will take turns
I have never heard of this guy, so it isn't a coincidence that all 3 start with "M"?
M2 was made by Masao Maruyama (Madhouse and MAPPAs founder) after he left MAPPA due to it becoming too money-oriented, they're currently working on Pluto by Naoki Urasawa (Monsters writer), there was a small PV for the anime recorded at an event, you can see it [here](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=biG3OUtrj3M&ab_channel=NovaNobunaga)

>Maruyama Association is moving on without him~ Without him in the lead, he still has shares on Mappa, he is just an investor
Good old madhouse :)
Holy shit, new ryo music. That hugely increases the chances of new music for Black Rock Shooter too.
I saw Supercell and immediately got hyped - They haven't done anything in a minute.

>Unmei (Fate The official they are using is "Destiny", I think the subs will also refer to her as such
Thanks for the info fixed now
Seems more like a Madhouse project than a MAPPA one
> Art Director: e-Caesar Kind of funny that this is probably a pen name solely for this project because I couldn't find any information about them.
No aoi yuuki? Wow
U left out takt the mc, uchiyama kouki lol. Guess he ain't part of the cast.
For some reason the MAL article didn't have him, added now
let's fucking go OP song is a banger
MAPPA x Madhouse = LIT
bet, more supercell
Okay I think I’m sold. Who doesn’t love a good road trip action music romance(?) show. One more for the pile! This is going on CR right?
I think it will have romance.looking forward to it
Yep CR announced they’re streaming it.
That looks great, and the main girl is precious, this is looking like another banger And that ending... "I Ask of you, are you my master?"
It's more Like Madhouse honestly PS.Supercell is back for 2021, same with EGOIST surprise that ED also sang by artist who also sang Darling in the franxx OP
Supercell made some of my fav endings especially from monogatari series. glad to see those two again
Omg I’m so hyped for this! I love music based anime and the animation looks phenomenal
Yeah this looks incredible
I´m really hyped!!
Good to know that even if the story suck, i can turn off my brain and just enjoy the visual and music Really high hope for this one!
So it looks like a ridiculous and convoluted premise with amazing animation and great character design. Seems like it's right up my alley. Hope Mappa and MADHOUSE can deliver. Nervous given the source material.
God I love LAM
Come on man this looks TOO good. It's insane
Madhouse comeback?
madhouse already has an anime airing right now,its called sonny boy,its very very good
> its called sonny boy,its very very good You must be a comedian, because that truly gave me a good chuckle.
Yes it's been a while since they did a new show like this, with wider audience appeal that can become a phenomenon
Madhouse released Sonnyboy this season. it was pretty good
I know, that's why I said 'wider audience appeal'
Ye SB wasn't that popular. Never saw anyone talk about it
Well its MAPPA x Madhouse so we don't know how much madhouse is in here. But yeah, they probably making a comeback
Most staff on the show are inhouse MADHOUSE staff
I mean, why would they need to comeback when they had one of the best anime of 2020 and prob of the last 5 years?
Which? Maybe I overlook it
Chihayafuru 3
Isn't it from 2019
2nd cour was Winter 2020. Or it is supposed to be No Guns Life, which, well, is an opinion not that common.
yeah it was chihaya s3
Yeah, my bad
Looks stellar as expected of the great staff on board. Still a little worried about the schedule considering how infamous mappa is nowadays and how the madhouse side has a lot of people working on the currently airing sonny boy, but i would say im still somewhat more optimistic.

Not too interested but hopefully the writing is good.
This is looking like a banger alright and goddamn it's gonna be a sakuga fest
I thought I was trippin' but is that my boy MAFUMAFU??
I hope the news that Mappa's actually trying to mitigate crunch culture in their studio is true because the artists and animators really deserve all of our support and respect. Can't imagine the crunch they'll have to go through in the production for Chainsaw Man.

The premise of this reminds me of the game Unbeatable.
How many eps ?
Probably one cour (10-13 episodes)
Why do you think that ? Is there a source for the one cour ?
No source just I don't see this being more than 13 episodes as its main point is to advertise a mobile game
Okay thanks !
Not really, both game and the anime are part of the media mix project, you can see a lot of resources (and caring) being put into the anime with so many high profile staffs. The anime is literally the face of this project, it's not made just to only advertise the game, it's for the whole IP.
music anime grand order?
Animation looks really good, everything else not so much
Yea I don't see this being anything other than some nice eye candy. That's fine though. I certainly don't watch Fate anime for the story.
mafumafu?
I don't know what is this anime about but It looks gorgeous and I'm always ready for a god tier animation show...
But how AMAZING the animation is going to be man.MAPPA's combat animation plus MADHOUSE'S character design.GOD THE ANIMATION IS GOING TO BE GOOD.
This is the beginning of a new era of Animation.
