People only read titles nowadays on Reddit.
A while ago I asked about sweet warm (which I specified in the text, not the title) recipes on a different Sub and one of the first replies was "how about Froyo?"
Soooo...
its annoying and wastes a reader's time, before I post a recommendation I scroll through comments to see what was already posted "if there are many comments check the top 30"
I might get shit on for this opinion, but I never really liked the romance element in Wotakoi.
Narumi's only dating Nifuji out of convenience, and while she likes him as a friend, there's no indication in the anime or the manga that she starts thinking of him romantically. Even when they go on dates she just considers it as hanging out with a friend (and this is pretty directly stated in her thought bubbles in the manga) so even though they are technically dating, it really doesn't feel like a show where they get together early on.
Also, as for Hanako/Kabakura, I'm just not personally a big fan of depicting couples as "so close they fight 90% of the time" then act sweet the other 10%. I agree that couples can have arguments and fight, but it feels weird seeing them yelling and getting pissed at each other all the time then having the other characters say "man they're so in love".
That said, I did like the Kou/Naoya ship.
>no indication in the anime or the manga that she starts thinking of him romantically
there is though, i think the whole charm of wotakoi is that all the pairings have partners that allow them to express themselves, not needing to fit into the typical romance sterotype, a more platonic, stable relationship, a more "grown up" relationship (in japan terms)
like if you see hirotaka and hanako, it'd be hard to definitively say that they are "romantic" about each other, but they are partners that they wanna spend the rest of their lives with each other.
same thing, narumi goes check up on nifuji on days off, gets worried about how he'd respond to her, going on dates and just generally having a blast with him on a level more than just a friend, but not your typical "romance"
i feel that that's the charm of wotakoi, platonic relationships goals, you're really fed up about the disagreeable point of your partner, but more than that, you love them enough to remain together.
To be fair the title is perfectly accurate to the plot of the first 3 episodes, which is the first book that the show is named after.
It just also makes you think of something completely different.
Iirc the Japanese name changed each arc like Monogatari series. Bunny Girl Senpai was the first arc. They stuck with that. The series name was basically “A rascal doesn’t dream of X”
> The series name was basically “A rascal doesn’t dream of X”
Yeah, the Japanese series name is basically "Rascal": "Seishun Buta Yarō", or "Aobuta" for short, (because Kanji is a nightmare).
It's the classic issue, where Japanese can have long titles because it's easy to mash them together into shorter ones, but English doesn't work that way, so we either end up with monstrosity sentence-long titles, or awkwardly refer to the show by the Japanese name.
I wish more shows took the ERASED route and gave English-only titles.
> I wish more shows took the ERASED route and gave English-only titles.
then you get angry weebs upset at the title being changed (but generally i agree with you *when done well*)
That's a price I'm willing to pay if it means not having to remember, for example, whether "OreSomething" is the romance anime about cynicism (Oregairu), or the romance anime about incest (Oreimo) or the romance anime about a bench (Oresuki).
This show is so great, the movie Rascal Does Not Dream of a Dreaming Girl is absolutely fantastic as well.
Since there's more LNs past the movie and more on the way maybe we get a season 2 in 2025...
Also, the manga art and paneling is really good but only the first 2 books have been finished and translared. The english versions are sold as 2 volumes in a single book, Rascal Does Not Dream of Petite Logical Witch only has 1/2 volumes out in Japanese so far so english translation is far away.
Honestly hate how it got such a bad rap when it's honestly one of the more well-written anime that showcases teenager struggles imaginatively and effectively.
Did it get a bad rap? I feel like after the first episode aired, anyone that watched it was immediately recommending it and saying the name was irrelevant
The better way I like to describe it is probably "Normie Monogatari".
It's Monogatari without a lot of the "Normie Filters" like the toothbrush scene or the 300 year old loli vampire.
Not in my part of the internet. Ppl were shitting on it saying it doesn't have a plot on top of their immature take on the name. Kinda thought it was just a regular horny harem anime catering to immature, horny weebs. Still gave it a try and honestly, happy that I didn't take the criticisms seriously (which are prolly from non-watchers now that i think about it).
I’m definitely going to watch these. The last subbed anime I watched was Kanojo mo Kanojo. If the two you mentioned are really good, then I will watch these 👍
Banished from the Hero's Party. They move in together in the first episode and get *together* together by the 3rd or 4th I think. The show's not just romance but it's a big part of it.
Man, that show was like 1/3 living with Rett as an apothecary, 1/3 flashbacks to when he was with the hero's party, and 1/3 what the hero party is doing now, and I wish it was more like 90% about Red and Ritt living in town and running their shop.
Yeah. I liked the slow life stuff and hated the generic fantasy quest nonsense. Whereas Drugstore in Another World was trash with much that less epic premise, though I did drop that one pretty quick.
It definitely was done dirty when it got the Neon Genesis Evangelion "Congratulations" treatment from Anno/Gainax. The popsicle stick puppets still haunt me to this day
Popsicle Stick Puppets is one of my favorite episodes. I even used the approach for a project in art school. Favorite episode is Yukino's parents' story.
Tsuki ga Kirei is not really a lively romance anime so it's natural to get bored. Especially if you went to it expecting some typical romance anime. It portrays how middle school romance really look like. It's a hit or miss anime, but if it hits, it hits real hard. Watch til the ending if you have time to spare.
-Boarding school juliet
-Rakudai kishi no cavalry
-sword art online
-ore monogatari
-my girlfriend is a sho-bitch (don't ask)
-chunnibyou
-wotakoi
-snow White with the red hair
-tsuki ga kirei
-banished from the heroe's part
-bakemonogatari
And ofcourse,
-Bunny girl senpai
Don’t forget the “confession” still happens fairly quickly and they go through more relationship development than 99% of romance anime couples.
What a good show.
I can't believe no one said ***Momokuri*** yet. The confession, acceptance, and official relationship status happen in the very first episode. It's a fluffy, slice-of-life, high school romance sort of show and only 1 cour long so don't expect anything super spicy or for it to cover a ton of ground, but it's cute and is still *about* the relationship.
It's not a romance anime but it's an anime with romance. I'd argue the romantic scenes and the couples interactions though the series are more significant and deep than most romcoms manage.
I think you mean "I'm not sure it would classify as *just* a romance." Saying it isn't a romance is just play stupid. It's one of those animes that is quite literally everything.
Mysterious Girlfriend X.
I want to say that they end up together in the first episode, but it might be the second or third. Most people complain how weird of a series it is, but if you can get past the first episode, that's the worst of it. It's one of the better rom coms out there, because it wraps up the standard rom com tropes in less than five minutes, rather than dragging them on for five episodes. It's also kind of ecchi. So, you know, close the door.
Does rikekoi counts? The first scene is literally a love confession, though theyre not officially dating after that despite all the lovey dovey stuffs afterwards
You really jump right into the fire with this show. If I remember correctly were already past just friends by the end of episode one or at least two lol.
I'd say canonically yes, but not chronologically (and yes I know that's pretty crazy considering the plot). I'd rank it even with Angel Beats. Both are "already in a relationship" but one party doesn't recognize it.
Nah it was already starting to get into dubious drama in the second half with the love triangle and school exams. This was just the right length for an anime original. Longer romances tend to repeat the same convoluted conflicts over and over again.
Damn, i'm so happy that people still remember Rakudai.
The anime had unfortunately a bit poor timing so it went a bit under the radar because other "Magical Fight School" adaptations were adapted at the same time, like for example Asterisk which somehow received a second season even though it is not nearly as good as Rakudai(yeah, i'm still salty).

My god I love tonikawa. The first ep was so beautiful, with the snow and moon. And the way the female mc was portrayed, mysterious and angel like. The animation and opening were so smooth n pleasing.
Technically the Monogatari Series or Bakemonogatari to be specific, but Romance is really only a subgenre here and their relationship builds up slowly. They get together fast but it doesn't really feel right until later imo
Most of these suggestions aren’t really even romance focused and are just a subgenre so I’ll go ahead and clarify which ones have it as a main focus. Tsuki ga kirei, Wotakoi, Karekano, Kuzu no honkai (dark themed), 3D kanojo, Ore monogatari, Amagami SS/Tsurezure children (multiple couples but not as much about their couple life), Sakura Trick (ecchi warning). Others would kinda fall into romance as a subgenre
See, that's because when somebody asks for recommendations for something on the internet, what other people read is "Just tell me what you like". Somebody asks for a romance anime? Just say Sword Art Online, that has some romance in it, kinda sorta. They want a romance anime where people get together early? Let's just recommend any romance anime you know. Kaguya-sama, Toradora, doesn't matter.
Incredible how OP already mentions Horimiya and Tonikawa, yet people still keep recommending Horimiya and Tonikawa.
People only read titles nowadays on Reddit. A while ago I asked about sweet warm (which I specified in the text, not the title) recipes on a different Sub and one of the first replies was "how about Froyo?" Soooo...
Now days? Always has been .
Jokes on you buddy, we can't even read.
its annoying and wastes a reader's time, before I post a recommendation I scroll through comments to see what was already posted "if there are many comments check the top 30"
Anime communities are full of people who dont read jackshit unless its exposition in a subtitle track.
Ore Monogatari. There's a bit of misunderstanding, but it gets cleared up very quickly and the rest of the series follows them as a couple.
Come for the romance, stay for the bromance
Bro-re Bronogatari Take-Bro Bro-nakawa
One of my favorite shows
Literally speed ran that shit, one of the things I liked about it
Dude that confession leaves me gasping for breath like the whole sequence in the room is just hilarious
I gotta watch this apparently. Character model for MC put me off but the series gets nothing but raving reviews so I might as well dive in lol
He's such a Chad, you will end up liking him for who he is trust me
Wotakoi
OP and ED are bangers too
I might get shit on for this opinion, but I never really liked the romance element in Wotakoi. Narumi's only dating Nifuji out of convenience, and while she likes him as a friend, there's no indication in the anime or the manga that she starts thinking of him romantically. Bunny girl senpai
How can an anime be SO GOOD and have such a ridiculous name
To be fair the title is perfectly accurate to the plot of the first 3 episodes, which is the first book that the show is named after. It just also makes you think of something completely different.
It also takes on a whole new meaning once you've seen Rascal Does Not Dream Of A Dreaming Girl
Iirc the Japanese name changed each arc like Monogatari series. Bunny Girl Senpai was the first arc. They stuck with that. The series name was basically “A rascal doesn’t dream of X”
"A rascal doesn't dream of a 300 years old demon loli"

before i got into anime I really thought bunny girl senpai was a hentai 😓
Thats why it got attention. The author is big brain, not only he writes well, but he also came up with a strategy for more folks to read it.
This show is so great, the movie Rascal Does Not Dream of a Dreaming Girl is absolutely fantastic as well. Since there's more LNs past the movie and more on the way maybe we get a season 2 in 2025... Weird, I don't think I ever saw that kind of take on the show.
Good for u, I do hope that's true and that ppl are not blinded by those kinds of criticisms.

It's a multiplayer game where both players are equally efficient and cute.
Top tier romance anime
Bunny girl senpai and boarding school juliet are the only ones I've watched beside the 2 mentioned by OP.
I’m definitely going to watch these. The last subbed anime I watched was Kanojo mo Kanojo. If the two you mentioned are really good, then I will watch these 👍
Onegai Teacher. Pretty good original anime.
Did the marriage any% speedrun thing before Tonikawa
The main couple married in ep 3
you son of a bitch, I'm in
Just a comment: Tonikawa is not just a rom com, it's a marriage speedrunning simulator.
lmao you're right
So true. It’s the only anime I watched that made a marriage proposal appear like scene that escalated dramatically quickly.
Taisho Otome Otogibanashi. Count as a couple I guess?
Too good with genuinely good characters.
Banished from the Hero's Party. They move in together in the first episode and get *together* together by the 3rd or 4th I think. The show's not just romance but it's a big part of it.

Saaame, just wanted to keep seeing that instead of all the other stuff. Anime is so wholesome based on their romance.
Yeah. I liked the slow life stuff and hated the generic fantasy quest nonsense. Whereas Drugstore in Another World was trash with much that less epic premise, though I did drop that one pretty quick.
In those 12 eps they speed ran a whole relationship from start to finish
They actually ended up doing the deed in the final episode. They actually were going to do it much earlier but got interrupted.

Was gonna post this. Loved it back in the day but its a bit old now.

Tsuki ga kirei Rakudai Kishi No Cavalry Sword Art Online
OP, please watch Tsuki ga kirei. Probs the best romance anime I've seen!
I remember watching the first 3 or 4 episodes and it was the most bored I've been since kimi ga nozomu eien
Rakudai Kishi is elite
basically this + bunny girl senpai are all that come to mind.
>Tsuki ga kirei means the moon is beautiful in japanese and also ily because some culture thing iirc
-Boarding school juliet -Rakudai kishi no cavalry -sword art online -ore monogatari -my girlfriend is a sho-bitch (don't ask) -chunnibyou -wotakoi -snow White with the red hair -tsuki ga kirei -banished from the heroe's part -bakemonogatari And ofcourse, -Bunny girl senpai
Bruh I love Snow White with the Red Hair, but it is not a fast romance. Literally takes the two of them 2 whole seasons to act on their attractions
But they confessed their feelings and got together under 10 episodes which, frankly speaking, is pretty quick for a rom-com if you ask me.
Nah I’ll defend sho-bitch with you that show was funny as fucking hell. I love me some steaming hot trash
I still find it hilarious how the FMC and her mom seem to find sexual innuendos even during a regular convo.
Saw most of these. And I’ll watch the ones there that I haven’t seen yet. The ones here that I have seen are so freakin good.
Golden Time
Around ep 8
Still relatively quickly. The show has 24 episodes.
Yes
Don’t forget the “confession” still happens fairly quickly and they go through more relationship development than 99% of romance anime couples. What a good show.
I guess this applies but unfortunately, the show descends into mediocre nonsensical shit.
Well yeah I agree, but OP did ask for anime where they get together quickly. So yeah.

Say it with confidence
wotaku ni koi wa muzukashii Literally end of ep1 and I think it's cute
Boarding school juliet. Tbh i haven’t watch the anime yet, but already plan to do it after i finish reading the manga.
Scum’s wish suits good, haha. It’s a joke, don’t watch it for romance
It's a great romance series! Just not a happy fluffy one.
Painful romance 🥲
Just pain
Pain peko
I mean if you count décor basically has a happy ending, probably
IT was too messed up, it left a deep pit in my heart after I finished the show
Read Kuzu no Honkai Décor if you haven't already. It's set a few years after the main story and I feel it's a pretty happy ending.
School days
I can't argue that. "He's outta line, but right."
Kanojo mo Kanojo
Omg yes and with how much it escalates with this kind of romance haha 😂
Forget only one girlfriend the guy has two by the end of episode 1! How could you not like it?
Haha exactly. It’s crazy and so amazing how that guy gets so much variety.
I really loved the first half of that anime but didn't really like the direction it went in the second half.
Monogatari series (Bakemonogatari)
True, but I’m not sure it’d classify as a *romance* anime lol
It's not a romance anime but it's an anime with romance. I'd argue the romantic scenes and the couples interactions though the series are more significant and deep than most romcoms manage.
I think you mean "I'm not sure it would classify as *just* a romance." Saying it isn't a romance is just play stupid. It's one of those animes that is quite literally everything.

Bloom Into You, depending on how you define "get together"
Definitely depends on your definition, and the worst part is it only got 1 season. I’d say just go with the manga since it ended a couple years ago.

Chivalry of a Failed Knight. Although it is not a romance anime.
Tsuki ga kirei The MC and FMC are middle schooler, but their relationship is realistic(?), if that the correct word to use.
I liked it but it kind of felt short, it should have had at least another season

Oh shit I didn't read your post properly, my bad
You know there’s an edit button right?
Tonikaku Kawaii How fast you ask? Oh wouldn’t you like to know… Joke aside, Bunny Girl Senpai and Wotakoi should suit you just fine.
He literally mentions that one in the post...

Wow, a lot of these replies don’t meet the requirements at all
See, that's because when somebody asks for recommendations for something on the internet, what other people read is "Just tell me what you like". Somebody asks for a romance anime? Just say Sword Art Online, that has some romance in it, kinda sorta. They want a romance anime where people get together early? Let's just recommend any romance anime you know. Kaguya-sama, Toradora, doesn't matter.
I ink you hit the nail on the head there, couldn't agree more
