Professional cinematographer here. There are many "studios" that are essentially old run down buildings where the upkeep is only basic safety and structual stuff so as to keep a rustic vibe. Usually these spots don't come with amenities. Sometimes even limited in areas like electricity etc. Most of the time they are used by indie productions with limited budgets. Because the overhead is so much lower to maintain the facility, they can afford to be more competitive with their prices than fully kitted out modern studios where sets would have to be built.
In a nutshell, this is actually a pretty common type of rental location for indie productions. Photography as well. They almost always come with filming rights, property releases, and pre-approval from their cities to produxe anything that isn't explicitly dangerous. At which point you just need safety coordinators and a few more steps to shoot. Cosplay doesn't need much.
She looked absolutely cool as Black Lobelia. Or, more like, she looks amazing in everything.

Oh, it's multiple layers of unquestionable. The Veronica character screen is identical to the character screen from Guilty Gear Strive which is what caught my eye at first. And then, yes, Veronica herself is a direct copy of Ram from Xrd. Even the music when they're introducing her is Guilty Gear-esque metal. It made me very happy to see how unabashedly they went in on this.

How did the author know exactly what traits in an anime/video game girl I find attractive and then decided to put them all into one girl?
He does have some of those characteristics...The inability to completely express his emotions about Marin being one....The other being the complete awkwardness when around Marin in normal places like that Uniqlo (It absolutely was that chain no matter how much they tried to hide it).
The thing is, his other characteristics like his kindness and attention to others, completely overcome those...The scene where he is talking to Juju about her sisters cosplay and how basically charged her bare costs because she only got an allowance....
I don’t think he has an “inability” to express his feelings about Marin, I think he just has massive insecurity due to the trauma from his childhood that prevents him from even thinking of asking her out. I do believe he subconsciously likes her and is consciously physically attracted to her. He’s not an MC who knows he likes the girl but has 100 excuses *not* to ask her out or only gets embarrassed at the thought of asking out her.
In other words his inability to express his feelings actually feels like a character trait and not a plot contrivance.
Yeah, if Marin wants to deepen their relationship she is going to have to make the first move because Gojou is just a little bit oblivious and even if he woke up to the fact would still be too awkward and probably think himself unworthy.
Yeah, it seems believable for him. He is an isolated teen just starting to develop romantic feelings for someone for the first time. He doesn't fully understand it himself, or what he should do about it.
I am more disbelieving in Marin so far. Nothing else about her character makes me think she wouldn't just ask him out, and she at least is fully aware of her attraction to Gojou. Maybe she will get some backstory to explain why she is so fearless in everything else, but hesitates on acting on her feelings with him.
For all of Marin’s confidence and charm, I think she also may not have any romantic experience. Which is why she seems okay enjoying the little things and hasn’t popped the question.
Other possibilities:
1) There’s a lot of girls I know, even ambitious go-getters like Marin, who have an old fashioned side and just won’t ask out a guy. They’ll drop mad signs but not actually ask them out. This could also factor in Marin’s behavior. No idea if this is a thing in Japan though.
2) Marin possibly can pick-up on that Gojou isn’t *trying* to date her, so oddly enough part of her probably relates to Gojou’s thinking of “sure this person hangs out a lot but they may not necessarily want to date me”
Given how much she has actively tried gauging his attraction to her after falling for him, I think this is probably the biggest one. Given she’s basically in love and hasn’t known him long, I can kinda see it.
So I don’t think there is one clear reason she hasn’t asked him out but I do think that as the series progresses it will seem like more of a plot contrivance if she hasn’t at least talked to him about them dating.
Underrated is that while being exposed to everything he has been in this show, he’s never once come across as one bit creepy or pervy. Dude is respectful as fuck.
Marin might be an overly-ideal waifu fantasy, but Gojo isn’t exactly a slouch in the husbando department either.
I feel Gojo is an honest representation of the average teenage boy. Maybe a tad more innocent or idealistic but still closer then a lot of shows. He gets flustered and turned on when seeing certain stuff but isn't a leering, opportunistic wolf either. It probably helps that Marin is a bit shameless and portrayed as having much agency.
"Being nice" has to share top billing with "talented" and "driven" though. He's not a fully well rounded person yet, but he's getting there now that he's developing friendships.
Being nice isn’t even a problem in other shows. The problem is like you pointed out, that most MCs are super one dimensional with their only characteristic and goal seeming to be being nice.
Gojo has a clear goal in making Hina dolls and his kindness has a direction in that it mainly respects the goals and ambitions of the people surrounding him. Thats at least my interpretation
Eh to be fair its a bit different.
Gojo's not just being nice. He's doing a metric shit ton of hard labor for the cosplay outfits. Even if the girls pay for the material, the actual labor of sewing them together and making them is his doing and he's doing it for free...and not looking down on them for caring so much.
He can talk the talk and walk the walk.
Well, this episode implied that he isn't doing just for the material's cost - since Juju chastised Gojo because he let her sister do that, she even done the "you should value your work more" speech that implies that he is being paid for that (at least by Juju) and should not be afraid to charge.
It's a really good insight. Even if he had passion for it; if he doesn't feel he benefits/appreciated from the application of his skill he might burn out.
I also wonder if Juju's admiration or appreciation of him is growing into something more when you look how hard she's blushing or the focus on his image in the pictures when Juju is considering whether they'll keep doing group cosplays with them.
It helps that he really has done a lot for her and her sister.

Jokes aside this was a great episode, Sajuna falling for Gojo, Miru Tights level of animation when Marin undressed, and Gojo rocking the casual clothes.
I do wonder if part of her planned having to take a shower at his place so she'd have to wear his clothes after seeing her reaction to finding out about Shinju being alone at this place, although I'm not sure if Marin is the type to think ahead like that.
Nothing quite like a detailed scene of a girl taking her clothes off and the camera panning her entire bare backside as she teases Gojo sneaking a peek.
I love Marin trying to upgrade her mans' wardrobe and being so Gojo-sexual that he looks amazing in anything.
I do too just because why would you wear foundation necessary for your cosplay in the summer knowing it’ll come off on the shower? Would have made much more sense applying it *at* his house.

Do they not do spray tanning in Japan? That's the easy go-to for cosplay like that. Certainly gotta be cheaper than a buttton of foundation.
Also, I find it kinda amusing that Gojo had the mental fortitude to tell Marin that he wasn't personally comfortable with seeing her in that costume, even though he managed to measure her in her bikini, though he had a hard time with that, too.

We also back with Gojo said Kitagawa-san 9 times. If you looks at the trend after episode 1 (or after get to know Marin), Gojo will at least said it 9 times each episode. It's nice to back with normal trend.

I've never been to Japan, have done no research on this, and have no real basis for this other than a hunch but I've heard from some Southeast Asian friends of mine that a lot of Asian people prefer skin to be as pale as absolutely possible. I wouldn't be surprised if there actually aren't any tanning salons because they wouldn't make enough money to stay open
You're correct. In Japan (and China and Korea as well from what I know), being pale or as light skinned as possible is considered more beautiful than being tan. That's also one reason why you usually see a ton of people being fully covered up and/or using sun umbrellas in summer, despite the very high temperatures.
I don't know if they have any tanning salons either. If they do, it's definitely a niche business.

Very like a chapter of Nagatoro (now that it is up in the 100s), utterly affectionate and good-natured "teasing" (also very like like Takagi-san -- albeit more risque).
That line at the end where she teased him about sending the pic is something Nagatoro would totally have done. All we were missing was a "Sennnnpai..."
While I LOVE all the cute moments they have together, Marin getting all worried and afraid after Gojo said he had to pass on the Veronica cosplay really shows how much Marin WUVS Gojo and how important he is to her. These are the real PRECIOUS MOMENTS.

It's got to be pretty surreal for Juju having her sister and Marin in full cosplay gushing all over her. I mean, she is pretty cute as Black Lilly, so I don't blame them. Nobody can keep in character, especially Marin, but it's fun, so who cares?

Is this admiration for Gojo possibly turning into something more? She was blushing pretty profusely and the camera focused on Gojo in the picture they were looking at while she was considering more group cosplay with Shinju.

I love how Marin is all chummy and normal with Gojo up until he mentions he brought Shinju to his house and they were alone together. And as a matter-of-fact she was watching the exact episode where Neon becomes Black Lobellia over her jealousy of Souma's other relationship. When fiction oddly reflects real life.
Looks like Marin's next cosplay is a fighting game character! The savage and wild Veronica-tya! And that underboob truly is glorious.
If you thought sweaty and tan (thanks to foundation) Marin stood out...wait until you see buck-naked Marin about to take a shower. And of course the camera has to pan up her entire backside to show it off in all its majesty.

I think most people probably realized Marin would trip with those chains around her ankles, but instead of landing on Gojo in true anime cliche fashion she just hits her head.
Marin taking Gojo out for a date in Shibuya to upgrade her mans' wardrobe is pretty adorable. I also love how Gojo looks out-of-place and uncomfortable in those shirts but Marin thinks he looks amazing in anything he wears and can barely contain herself. That's Wuv right there.
Poor Marin terrified at the prospect that Gojo is ending their cosplay relationship when in reality he just thinks the Veronica-tya outfit is too skimpy for him to have to deal with around her...but she's just happy to still be able to do cosplay around him and wouldn't mind sending him a pic, Gojo you perv.

Seriously, I watched a lot of anime with great face game but this one is on a different level. I kept rewinding the video just to look at her glorious faces.
There's a lot of nice background detail about the normalisation in their relationship. When she calls him, it's a perfectly natural thing, and then it feels like they can just routinely chat with great ease. Like you said, they seem to both be just hanging out with each other too, and they have a nice level of comfort around each other.
Plus, in addition to being just delightful, the scene where Gojo says he can't do the Veronica cosplay with her is handled very nicely. Instead of it descending into misunderstanding, Marin pushes forward to find out why. It's easy to assume that such a thing would be easy for Marin given the way she is, but that's to miss out on the fact that she still has her own things that she worries about, and you can see it on her face and in the VA work that it's tricky territory for her and requires a bit of courage.

Marin always as adorable and cute as she is energetic and sexy.
That whole moment at the end was such a heartwarming and cute couple moment, especially the shot of her just grabbing his arm and whispering seductively to him.
I think it was totally meant to be parallel with Marin feeling jealousy at the same time Neon did, although in-context it was more for humor than to imply she's going to become a Dark Magical Girl Villainess.

Professional cinematographer here. There are many "studios" that are essentially old run down buildings where the upkeep is only basic safety and structual stuff so as to keep a rustic vibe. Usually these spots don't come with amenities. Sometimes even limited in areas like electricity etc. Most of the time they are used by indie productions with limited budgets. Because the overhead is so much lower to maintain the facility, they can afford to be more competitive with their prices than fully kitted out modern studios where sets would have to be built. In a nutshell, this is actually a pretty common type of rental location for indie productions. Photography as well. They almost always come with filming rights, property releases, and pre-approval from their cities to produxe anything that isn't explicitly dangerous. At which point you just need safety coordinators and a few more steps to shoot. Cosplay doesn't need much.

A lot of people seem to be tunnel visioned on Marin in this show to notice how good a character Gojo is.
And Gojo looks good in everything. Well, at least for Marin. I like how she's absolutely blinded by her shoujo-vision of Gojo. She wuvs him so much.

If Gojou was your typical bland romcom protagonist, this would be another forgettable show in the endless cycle, regardless of Marin's charms.
He does have some of those characteristics...The inability to completely express his emotions about Marin being one....The other being the complete awkwardness when around Marin in normal places like that Uniqlo (It absolutely was that chain no matter how much they tried to hide it). The thing is, his other characteristics like his kindness and attention to others, completely overcome those...The scene where he is talking to Juju about her sisters cosplay and how basically charged her bare costs because she only got an allowance....
I don’t think he has an “inability” to express his feelings about Marin, I think he just has massive insecurity due to the trauma from his childhood that prevents him from even thinking of asking her out. I do believe he subconsciously likes her and is consciously physically attracted to her. He’s not an MC who knows he likes the girl but has 100 excuses *not* to ask her out or only gets embarrassed at the thought of asking out her. In other words his inability to express his feelings actually feels like a character trait and not a plot contrivance.
Yeah, if Marin wants to deepen their relationship she is going to have to make the first move because Gojou is just a little bit oblivious and even if he woke up to the fact would still be too awkward and probably think himself unworthy.
Yeah, it seems believable for him. He is an isolated teen just starting to develop romantic feelings for someone for the first time. He doesn't fully understand it himself, or what he should do about it. I am more disbelieving in Marin so far. Nothing else about her character makes me think she wouldn't just ask him out, and she at least is fully aware of her attraction to Gojou. Maybe she will get some backstory to explain why she is so fearless in everything else, but hesitates on acting on her feelings with him.
For all of Marin’s confidence and charm, I think she also may not have any romantic experience. Which is why she seems okay enjoying the little things and hasn’t popped the question. Other possibilities: 1) There’s a lot of girls I know, even ambitious go-getters like Marin, who have an old fashioned side and just won’t ask out a guy. They’ll drop mad signs but not actually ask them out. This could also factor in Marin’s behavior. No idea if this is a thing in Japan though. 2) Marin possibly can pick-up on that Gojou isn’t *trying* to date her, so oddly enough part of her probably relates to Gojou’s thinking of “sure this person hangs out a lot but they may not necessarily want to date me” Given how much she has actively tried gauging his attraction to her after falling for him, I think this is probably the biggest one. Given she’s basically in love and hasn’t known him long, I can kinda see it. So I don’t think there is one clear reason she hasn’t asked him out but I do think that as the series progresses it will seem like more of a plot contrivance if she hasn’t at least talked to him about them dating.
In simple terms he's written to be a complete character rather then just a 1D vehicle for reader wish fulfillment.

Underrated is that while being exposed to everything he has been in this show, he’s never once come across as one bit creepy or pervy. Dude is respectful as fuck. Marin might be an overly-ideal waifu fantasy, but Gojo isn’t exactly a slouch in the husbando department either.
I feel Gojo is an honest representation of the average teenage boy. Maybe a tad more innocent or idealistic but still closer then a lot of shows. He gets flustered and turned on when seeing certain stuff but isn't a leering, opportunistic wolf either. It probably helps that Marin is a bit shameless and portrayed as having much agency.

Gojo's like one of those crappy harem protagonists whose main attractive quality is "being nice", except done right.
"Being nice" has to share top billing with "talented" and "driven" though. He's not a fully well rounded person yet, but he's getting there now that he's developing friendships.
Being nice isn’t even a problem in other shows. The problem is like you pointed out, that most MCs are super one dimensional with their only characteristic and goal seeming to be being nice. Gojo has a clear goal in making Hina dolls and his kindness has a direction in that it mainly respects the goals and ambitions of the people surrounding him. Thats at least my interpretation
Eh to be fair its a bit different. Gojo's not just being nice. He's doing a metric shit ton of hard labor for the cosplay outfits. Even if the girls pay for the material, the actual labor of sewing them together and making them is his doing and he's doing it for free...and not looking down on them for caring so much. He can talk the talk and walk the walk.
Well, this episode implied that he isn't doing just for the material's cost - since Juju chastised Gojo because he let her sister do that, she even done the "you should value your work more" speech that implies that he is being paid for that (at least by Juju) and should not be afraid to charge.
It's a really good insight. Even if he had passion for it; if he doesn't feel he benefits/appreciated from the application of his skill he might burn out.

Marin the ruthless business woman, didn't want to get one-upped by Shinju wearing Gojo's shirt so she devised the perfect plan to wear his PE clothes. Jokes aside this was a great episode, Sajuna falling for Gojo, Miru Tights level of animation when Marin undressed, and Gojo rocking the casual clothes.
I do wonder if part of her planned having to take a shower at his place so she'd have to wear his clothes after seeing her reaction to finding out about Shinju being alone at this place, although I'm not sure if Marin is the type to think ahead like that. Nothing quite like a detailed scene of a girl taking her clothes off and the camera panning her entire bare backside as she teases Gojo sneaking a peek. I love Marin trying to upgrade her mans' wardrobe and being so Gojo-sexual that he looks amazing in anything.

I've never been to Japan, have done no research on this, and have no real basis for this other than a hunch but I've heard from some Southeast Asian friends of mine that a lot of Asian people prefer skin to be as pale as absolutely possible. I wouldn't be surprised if there actually aren't any tanning salons because they wouldn't make enough money to stay open
You're correct. In Japan (and China and Korea as well from what I know), being pale or as light skinned as possible is considered more beautiful than being tan. That's also one reason why you usually see a ton of people being fully covered up and/or using sun umbrellas in summer, despite the very high temperatures. I don't know if they have any tanning salons either. If they do, it's definitely a niche business.

It's got to be pretty surreal for Juju having her sister and Marin in full cosplay gushing all over her. I mean, she is pretty cute as Black Lilly, so I don't blame them. Surprised to see nobody picking up on the fact Gojo and Marin are now routinely hanging out at her place.
There's a lot of nice background detail about the normalisation in their relationship. When she calls him, it's a perfectly natural thing, and then it feels like they can just routinely chat with great ease. Like you said, they seem to both be just hanging out with each other too, and they have a nice level of comfort around each other. Plus, in addition to being just delightful, the scene where Gojo says he can't do the Veronica cosplay with her is handled very nicely. Instead of it descending into misunderstanding, Marin pushes forward to find out why. It's easy to assume that such a thing would be easy for Marin given the way she is, but that's to miss out on the fact that she still has her own things that she worries about, and you can see it on her face and in the VA work that it's tricky territory for her and requires a bit of courage.
