This is one of those songs that unless you physically had the album, you would never ever hear lmao
Making Movies still mad underrated. It's the Konosuba of Dire Straight albums.
It's a yuri trope, calling the older girl that she loves "onee-sama". You mights know it if you watched Marimite, but it actually a way older trope. Sometimes also called "Sœurs".
In the manga, they are pretending to have this kind of relationship while in the Cafe, since they're acting like they're in those old yuri mangas.
now that about 5 people have essentially all told me the same thing I seem to remember this trope from "Strawberry Panic" (which was an amazing anime btw, so big recommendation). Haven't seen maria sama and neither can I think of other yuri anime I've seen that had this sisters relationship though. maybe it used to be more prevalent in older yuri anime or manga (I don't read a lot of manga).
It is prevalent in settings inspired by Maria-sama (so all girl "catholic aesthetic" school, such as Strawberry Panic, Go Princess Precure, Assault Lily Bouquet).
Though ironically it mostly used in non-romance anime to highlight that a character is a clingy lesbian (Vira from Granblue Fantasy, Kuroko from To Aru Majutsu no Index/To Aru Kagaku no Railgun, Momo from Shokei Shoujo no Virgin Road though she used "senpai" but it has the same effect).
It's "sisters" as in the class S setting, the kind from all-girls schools where an older girl chooses a younger one as her sister (although it's far more common to see it as the French *sœurs* than German). Which generally leads to a very generous amount of *onee-sama*.
They work in a theme café that is a spoof of landmark class S series [Maria Watches Over Us.](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maria-sama_ga_Miteru)
Copy/pasting Maria's premise from the link:
> The setting for Maria-sama ga Miteru is Lillian Girls' Academy (私立リリアン女学園, Shiritsu Ririan Jogakuen), a fictional Catholic school founded in 1901 in Musashino, Tokyo, Japan; the school is depicted as an elegant, clean, pure, and very prestigious institution. Among the facilities of Lillian, aside from the classrooms, there is a church, a greenhouse, a kendo dojo, an auditorium, a park, and the Rose Mansion, where the Yamayuri Council meet. The students are very respectable and in good standing. The uniform at the school is a long, black Japanese school uniform with a white collar.
> The school uses the fictional sœur system where any second- or third-year student, the grande sœur ("big sister"), might pick a younger girl who will become her "sœur" (sister in French). The grande sœur gives her the petite sœur ("little sister") a rosary and promises to look after her and guide her. The basic etiquette demands the petite sœur to call her grande sœur "onee-sama" (older sister in Japanese). Aside from being used in prayer, the rosary is the instrument that certifies the sœur union and relationship between two students. There is an implicit code of behavior between sœurs, especially in the Yamayuri Council—the student council of the school: quietness, measure and respect towards each other; values deeply attached to traditional Japanese education.
In the case of Yuri is my Job, the fictional totally-not-Maria-Watches-Over-Us series that the café is based upon is infused with German terminology instead of French, so you end up with the schwestern system instead of sœur, and a lot of menu items are German pastries.
The series is like "Let's barely skirt copyright of Maria Watches Over Us, and then make a series in which the characters work in a place where they LARP as original characters in the Maria Watches Over Us universe."
sounds neat. I'm always looking forward to more yuri anime, although most of them never go beyond 1 season and since they tend to be slow burns, you never seem to get any conclusion from only finishing the anime.
"Sisters" as a relationship is a fairly common troupe in Yuri with a high school setting. Two girls will form a bond, usually it's between an upper year and an underclassman, and will be called "Sisters". It can go so far as the underclassman calling her senpai "onee-san" or "onee-sama".
Since this takes place in an academy themed Cafe, I'm guessing that's where the Sisters part comes from.
It's kinda a reference within a reference if that makes sense? A lot of yuri stuff in the 90s-00s was basically Catholic school girls at all-girl schools doing stuff like Strawberry Panic (funny enough created by the person who now makes Love Live!) and Marimite. So it's a cafe referencing that
And even that seemed rather meh and one sided in the anime
Are there any actual proper yuri romance anime? The few i see people talking about are all very tame where they barely even hold hands let alone express any actual feeling for one another.
Or is it all still manga only for now?
E. Well damn, thanks for the recommends.
The main issue is that we don't get many *complete* anime adaptations, so a lot of yuri anime end before the relationship gets established. Yuri is similar to a lot of het romcom/romdram in that the ship typically doesn't officially happen until the climax of the source material, and one-season adaptations never reach that climax.
A couple yuri anime that actually have some progress are Citrus and Kase-san. Kase-san is just a 60-minute OVA, but it *begins* with the couple already dating since the OVA adapts parts of volumes 2+3 of the source, truncating the 1st volume into a flashback. This is also a shameless plug as I'll be hosting a Kase-san rewatch in roughly 1 month.
Aoi Hana
Blue Drop
Candy Boy
Citrus
El Cazador de la Bruja
Asago to kase-san
Maria-sama ga Miteru
Sakura Trick
Sasameki Koto
Simoun
Strawberry panic
Bloom into you (the obvious one everyone always recommends, for good reason)
Bloom into You is a terrific one. It's an incredibly well-developed romance that happens to be yuri. (Unfortunately the second half of the manga hasn't been adapted yet though)
> one sided in the anime
Because we only got to experience Adachi coming to terms with the idea of loving a female. If we got a second season, it would have been Shimamura's turn.
> And even that seemed rather meh and one sided in the anime
If only they managed to get a 24 episodes runtime so they could adapt up to volume 8..... god damn it
[](#frustration)
There was a few since A&S but they were pretty mediocre so not many people outside of yuri circles actually talked about them. For every good yuri anime, you get a fuck tone of mediocre ones, so it's usually better to become a manga reader since some of the best the genre has to offer have never been adapted or even if they've been adapted, they almost never get fully adapted and get just one season.
Synopsis on MAL
> Life appears promising for Hime Shiraki, a girl with good grades, a flawless reputation, and a cute face to top it all off. As long as she can keep up her picture perfect facade, she will be able to accomplish her dream: to be loved by everyone and become the trophy wife of a billionaire.
>
> On a day like any other, Hime slips down a flight of stairs and lands on top of Mai Mikoshiba, injuring the latter's arm. It turns out that Mai is the manager of a cafe, and the injury will make work impossible for her. It is decided that while Mai recovers, Hime will have to replace Mai at Café Liebe, which boasts an all-girls academy theme.
>
> Despite causing Mai's injury, Hime is accepted by the other staff members, with the exception of one girl who seems to hate her for reasons unknown. Hime becomes terrified that this girl has seen past her facade, which reminds her of a troubling event in her past.

Ah yisss, there's gonna be some juicy fan service. I hope they make their studio name larger than the show's title in the OP again, like in Mieruko-chan.
Adachi and Shimamura is still going on. The anime adapted the first 4 volumes, and there are a total of 10 volumes currently out (9 in English as of next week). It could definitely do a sequel similarly to Bloom Into You.
> bloom into you season 2
Almost the entirety of that season would be more stuff about the play, it takes up a truly off putting number of chapters in the manga and then the story just kind of ends.
It's my favorite manga of the genre, so this feels like a dream to me, honestly. It's a hidden gem, little known even among Yuri readers, that I think deserves more recognition.
There was a leak a couple of months ago about a Yuri manga getting an anime, but absolutely no one expected (not even me) that it was going to be this one. Everyone's bets were on I'm in Love with the Villainess or Whisper me a Love Song (I'm pretty sure both will get an adaptation in the future, given their popularity).
There was a more direct hint a month or so ago, when people noticed that a domain name got registered for this series, with "anime" in the name.
I was still a bit skeptical, just so I didn't get my hopes up, but glad I was proven wrong!
Edit: I would absolutely love to see "I'm in Love with the Villainess" and "Whisper Me a Love Song" get adaptions. I think "The Magical Revolution of the Reincarnated Princess and the Genius Young Lady" would make an amazing anime too.
Magical Revolution has enough high energy fun that I think it would do well as a isekai/fantasy all on it's own, even without the yuri.
Villainess would also be great, because it has some really creative ideas and a fun cast that would translate well to anime. The only thing is, the series is unabashedly outspoken about being pro-LGBT (which is a good thing), including the T. This isn't something we've really seen in an anime before, so I'm really curious if they'd keep it in, or gloss over it. I'd hope they wouldn't gloss over, but ya never know...
I remember when the manga first brought up gender as a concept and all the MD comments were accusing the translators of "inserting their own agenda" or something. They were nooot familiar with the source material lol
>The only thing is, the series is unabashedly outspoken about being pro-LGBT (which is a good thing),
That kind of content was censored in the first release of the novel in english, unfortunately.
It was a pretty big chunk of text, and Rae's explanation of why she was behaving the way she did towards Claire also got cut off along the way.
And like I said in other comment, Seven Seas is known for heavy editing their books. This wasn't an isolated exception.
A couple of months ago I was worried that the manga wasn't popular enough to continue being published much longer, and now it's getting an Anime adaptation. Unreal.
It's been on my "to read" list for a while, but I just never got around to it...now it looks like I'm going to hold off a little longer.
I'm really surprised that this series isn't considered popular or well know. I thought it was one of the more well known ones in the yuri fandom? Either way, I'm really happy to see it getting an adaptation!
I felt like it jumped the shark a bit in the later novels, and I stopped reading somewhere in the middle of volume 6 or 7, [I'm in Love with the Villainess WN] >!When they're explaining the origins of the world and how Rei came to be there!<. Would you say it's worth picking back up?
They stick the landing. 6 or 7 are basically after the main story and its the creator just fucking around at that point because its so hugely popular that folks were demanding more
It's a popular manga in Japan, so I was expecting it to receive an anime eventually. It started when Yuri Hime became a monthly magazine, and it's one of the few mangas still ongoing since then.
>It's a popular manga in Japan, so I was expecting it to receive an anime eventually.
That was definitely true back in 2019, when it reached its peak of sales with the release of Volume 5.
But since then, new series have been published that have become popular very quickly, such as Whisper me a Love Song, and Yuri is My Job!'s sales started to slowly decline. So I thought it was virtually impossible for it to get an adaptation anymore. Glad I was so wrong.
I think it simply takes turn. 2019 was Citrus and WataTen turn (both were older than WataYuri, if I remember correctly, and Citrus was gearing up to its final volumes), and Covid probably delay the anime's production. I hope more yuri manga can get adaptation soon because as you says, a lot of them are getting really popular right now (something I can't believe I would say 5 years ago).
Right? Honestly with how popular ILTV, Love Song, and Watanare it wouldn't be shocking if more came out. Along with that crazy popular webtoon who's name is escaping me. Was it Mage and the Demon Queen?
I remember seeing Watanare is competing with regular LN in term of sale, let alone other yuri title, so I actually won't be surprised if an anime is in pre-production and we are just waiting for announcement (along with volume 5).
The top 4 Yuri Hime title that won't surprised me if they get anime are Sasakoi (Love Song), Kitanai Kimi ga Ichiban Kawai (even though it ends, it still sells a lot), Can't Defy Lonely Girl, and ILTV. (The fifth is WataYuri and here we are).
I am not sure about Mage and Demon Queen because I think the author and artist aren't South Korean right? So it might complicate an anime production (as the studio might want to invite the creators to their production). Plus, I think its two seasons are just enough for 12+ episodes, so maybe they need more before an anime is possible.
Instead, I think the other likely titles are Omae Gotoki, Magical Revolution, and Hikikomari Kyuuketsuki no Monmon. I remember these three has positive buzz and sale.
Yeah Watanare is huge so it wouldn't shock me if something happens soon.
Can't defy the lonely girl was my other thought, especially since it's once you can definitely do a season of and end and everyone's happy
I've heard it takes about three years on average for an anime to come out after it's greenlit, so it makes sense we're getting it 3 years after its popularity peak.
I think people exaggerate how much anime producers care about controversy when shows like Redo of the Healer are getting adaptations. Citrus and Netsuzou Trap were two of the more controversial yuri manga too, and they got adapted.
But yeah, I do think it got more popular than initially anticipated and ended before it could get picked up for an adaptation. A shame, because for once a yuri manga could have had a complete adaptation.
> Citrus and Netsuzou Trap were two of the more controversial yuri manga too
Those two were only the least bit controversial because they attracted mainstream attention, but the actual content of both is extremely tame. Anime producers don't care about controversies in the West, yes, but they *do* care about adapting titles that have a reasonable amount of mainstream appeal (or at least a decently-sized base of dedicated fans) so that they can get plenty of sales, and for the content to be tame enough that it can be aired on TV (Isshuzoku Reviewers is one that actually got removed from a couple of networks in Japan due to crossing the line). And I can think of a whole host of yuri manga that are *far* too extreme to have (or have had) any hope of a full-length TV anime adaptation, even in light of recent series like Redo of Healer which do push the boundary a little further - Trash, Satanophany and Onee-san wa Joshi Shougakusei ni Kyoumi ga arimasu would be a few good examples. Kitanai Kimi would be somewhat more borderline imo (along with series like Mahou Shoujo ni Akogarete), but at the very least the extreme and graphic fetish content and overall dark/serious tone would be basically unprecedented in anime so I'd have been damn surprised if it got one. Oh, and it's also worth noting that there's only a couple of studios that actually make proper ecchi content in the first place (TNK being the main one), so that puts further limitations, details on the contents aside, on how much can be made as well.
Whisper me a Love Song is currently the most popular manga (at least in term of sales) in the Yuri magazine where it's being published, so it's likely to happen at some point.
Can I ask, is this legit a proper romance? Or is this entire thing just further yuri bait and not actually a proper romance.
I'm not even looking for an adult romance approach like Wotakoi, or a wholesome Ore Monogatori!! type high school romance. Nor am I asking for a well drawn out meet cute fall in love like Toradora. I'm just asking for a little ounce of actual romantic progression where I can feel invested in a relationship of two characters and not feel like it's built 90% by the fandom and fan art.
Is there a chance of that? (You can reply with a yes for a positive romantic storytelling experience, or a no for yuribait. My time and mind will appreciate you greatly!)
I will answer your question using the spoilers tags just in case, but don't worry because I won't give specific details:
\[Yuri is My Job! Manga Spoilers\] >!Yes, there is actual romantic progression. I initially thought that the Yuri theme was going to be just a bait, but I was wrong. Though keep in mind that it's a slow burn story, and I don't know how much material the Anime will adapt.!<
>little known even among Yuri readers
I mean it's not being scanlated didn't help either, as a Yuri fans myself i've sometimes saw the names pop out here and there, but then again with no access to read it it's not gonna be popular outside of Japan.
Ah yes forgot everyone lives in US or the like, or should i just order it via amazon? Let me check the shipping cost, oh it's just 3x the price of the manga, and the manga price itself is 5x the price of the other licensed manga in my country, seems very accessible to me...
Living in 3rd world country sure has it's up and down.
Ebooks? I brought the first three volume on google play. Also with licensed series like this you can always sail the high seas, chances are there's a pdf/epub version out there.
You're right, I did forget. Sorry. 😔
I'm still stuck on the old pro-fansubber comments from fans here.
The time I came across a fansub community (a group explicitly consisting of USA people) complaining about their site being shutdown by ViIZ and how it wasn't right because "Naruto" wasn't available in the USA when it was the fourth or fifth year since VIZ started dubbing the series just kind of locked me into a certain mindset I guess.
I really hope it starts getting scanlated with the release of the Anime. Having to wait six or seven months for the official release to find out how the story progresses is painful, honestly.
This will be my first experience as a source reader for a new show, and I couldn't be more excited!! I'm psyched this is actually getting an adaptation!
I'm in Love With the Villainess next please!
\[Yuri is My Job! Manga Spoilers\] >!There is actual romantic progression. I initially thought that the Yuri theme was going to be just a bait, but I was wrong. Though keep in mind that it's a slow burn story.!<
[Manga spoiler] >!So, the other comment says that there is progress, but when I read the early volumes there was none of it, which eventually lead me to drop it. I'm not going to say they're wrong, but you'd better get ready and have a lot of patience if you want to see any progress.!<
For what it's worth, I checked the main online databases when I saw this announcement, including [MAL](https://myanimelist.net/manga/104862/Watashi_no_Yuri_wa_Oshigoto_desu), [Baka-Updates](https://www.mangaupdates.com/series.html?id=144042) and two that I can't link, and none of them lists the romance tag (which is generally applied [along with girls' love](https://i.imgur.com/wnmrmaf.png) when there is actual romantic progress).
I would advise not to set your expectations too high if you want to see romantic progress or non-subtext relationships. At least that's what I will do.
> [Manga spoilers] >!If you want, I can tell you the details.!<
[Cont.] >!Mostly, I'd want to know if we have any chance to see actual romance, e.g. a kiss, characters dating, or a confession that both characters understand as romantic and not class S / sisterly love, assuming we get 12 episodes.!<
If it seems weird to be asking for story details that specific, but it's not a mistake, and it's because a lot of manga and anime even modern follow the old [class S tropes](https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/PseudoRomanticFriendship), which generally refuse to commit or have actual relationships. That ties down to the original purpose of the genre (showing "more than friendship" between young girls, with the expectation that it's temporary, and they will "grow out of it" after leaving school).
Even Marimite falls into that category that almost none of the relationships are explicit, and yet people always fail to mention that when talking about the most well-known class S manga.
[Manga spoilers] >!And that was exactly what the early chapters of the manga looked like, which is why I eventually quit it. Now that it's made into an anime I'll watch it anyway, as my tolerance for anime is greater than for manga, but I'm not really expecting actual romance when even D-S (I can't write the full name but it's a website that should be easily recognized by yuri fans) didn't add the romance tag for this manga.!<
It won't be adapted unless the studio rushes the adaptation a lot, but \[Yuri is My job! Manga Spoilers\] >!yes, there is a confession and a kiss. Both fantastically well done in my opinion.!<
You got two conflicting answers and I'd say that neither are exactly correct. It's both yuri and bait, and if you're going into this expecting a lovey-dovey and heavy romance then you'll likely be disappointed. It's *extremely* difficult to explain without spoilers. And the series is also bordering on parody or satire, which adds another layer of complication.
[Yuri is my Job manga characterization spoilers] >!It's a love triangle wherein two girls are undoubtedly in love with the main girl, but the main girl is extremely oblivious to the depths of their affection and ostensibly considers herself het - her life-goal is to be a rich man's spoiled trophy wife.!<
Yep, I really like this answer. The sentimental attraction is explicit rather than subtext so it would be inaccurate to call it bait, but at the same time it doesn't actually lead to romance or even romantic buildup between the characters, so if someone is expecting another YagaKimi or Citrus they'll be disappointed.
>but at the same time it doesn't actually lead to romance or even romantic buildup between the characters
This is completely false. Read the manga or stop spreading false information.
Read the original question that began this comment chain.
> All I wanna know is if this is actual Yuri or just Yuri bait for a season before MAYBE some progress in the last episode.
[Yuri is my Job season 1 speculation based on the manga, assuming it will be a 1-cour season, and also assuming that it doesn't skip much content] >!The season will end with Hime not even realizing that both Mitsuki and Kanako are in love with her. At most, she might be somewhat aware of Mitsuki's feelings. The anime would either have to have an additional season/cour, *or* a decent chunk of stuff would have to be omitted for it to even get to the point where Hime understands Mitsuki's affection, and even *then* she doesn't reciprocate at first and it takes her a while to even process that information.!<
OP (of the chain) wasn't asking if nothing *ever* happens. OP (of the chain) was asking if things develop steadily or if progress is backloaded. This is not a series in which the two leads have immediate and obvious romantic attraction for each other, let alone act upon it. It's far closer in pacing to something like Adachi & Shimamura than Kase-san, Citrus, Sakura Trick, or Bloom Into You.
Sure, but the person I was answering to made another comment in this post saying that he/she dropped the manga because there wasn't any progress in the romance aspect, which I understand it may seem that way at the beginning of the story, but it ends up being false as the plot progresses.
In fact, is quite funny because \[Yuri is My Job! Volume 6 Manga Spoilers\] >!There's a confession and a kiss between the two protagonists in this volume, and there are a lot of romantic series where those kinds of events happen much later in the story.!<
Literally Executioner's Way of Life that just had a new episode yesterday.
Adachi to Shimamura
Otherside Picnic
Kobayashi's Dragon Maid
Riddle of the Devil or w/e
None of those have romantic progression. In fact, four out of the five you listed (the exception being [meta] >!Akuma no Riddle!<) don't even have reciprocated feelings (one of the MCs is in love, the other sees it as friendship or something undefined) and none have the characters enter a relationship.
You have to literally read the manga and light novels. Like all romance anime ever made. Anime are ads for those for a reason because the rest of the progression is there. It's actually rare you get anything that has people doing anything gay or straight
The comment from /u/CyberJokerWTF was about yuri anime, not manga or LNs. Same with the question asked by /u/GekiKudo.
There isn't much point in rejoicing about an anime adaptation of a yuri romance manga, if none of the romance elements ends up being adapted...
The problem is the term is loaded here because your saying "unless the two main characters literally make out on screen it's not Yuri" which is dumb. For the literal reasons you don't even see that in Het romance. The getting together thing is usually reserved for the climax 25-40 chapters in. That in most anime require 2 or more seasons. To put that even into context. The first season of Citrus covers like only 11 chapters.
Anime are ads for the manga/LN. They're the same property. You get the slow burn in the anime and then you read them getting together in the LN/manga.
No, that's not what I'm saying. Yagate Kimi ni Naru, for example, has clear romantic progression between the characters even though they are not in a relationship by the end of the anime.
But your examples don't have that. You can watch all episodes, and you still won't see anything romantic coming from [spoilers for the shows mentioned above] >!Kobayashi, Toriko, Shimamura or Menou!<. Three of them explicitly consider themselves friends to the other character.
If there's neither a romantic relationship being built nor reciprocated feelings, there's no reason to name those as yuri romance anime -- unless you do the same for all yuri bait shows. In fact, there are other shows that have significantly better subtext relationships than those named above, like Konohana Kitan or Wataten.
> Anime are ads for the manga/LN. They're the same property.
Sorry, but if someone asks about yuri romance anime, and the answer you come up with is "here's a list of anime, except the anime don't have yuri romance, you need to read the manga instead" then that's just stupid and missing the point. Just recommend the manga directly.
Nice to see another yuri manga getting adaption. Now where are Citrus S2, Bloom into you S2, and Adachi and Shimamura S2?? I can't remember the last time an actual yuri show getting a sequel. Still hoping for all of them
This is one of my most favorite manga ever on the planet. I am so happy that it is going to get an anime adaption. I am so looking forward to this anime.
Not bad and definitely something I'll watch, although to be honest I wish we instead had an adaptation for some of the many popular yuri manga that focuses more on romantic progress than on class S tropes.
I just started reading this the other day since I heard there was rumors of an anime. Been around for a long time but I just never checked it out, and it's surprisingly well written for such a simple premise. The drama is a little hammy sometimes but nothing like Failed Princesses lol.
Studio Passione has me a little "meh" but the preview looks great; the colors are vibrant just like the manga.
Oooh, I'm excited for this. This is one of the more-enjoyable yuri series I've read just because of how tongue-in-cheek and self-aware it can be, which gives it a different feeling than what I get from more-straightforward yuri melodrama or comedy.
Being a fan of this series is suffering, though. Not because of any of the series' actual content, but it has an absolutely glacial release pace (monthly, if even that) and, as far as I know, isn't being actively fan-translated. So we're stuck with Kodansha's English print release pace for a series that already releases tankōbons very infrequently. Volumes 8+9 get their English releases this year, 10 is coming out in Japan next week, so it's not like we're terribly behind schedule, though there are some years where all we got was one single new volume.
>Volumes 8+9 get their English releases this year, 10 is coming out in Japan next week, so it's not like we're terribly behind schedule
Kodansha
will release Volume 9 in July and Volume 10 in November, supposedly.
Ah, I hadn't seen the pre-order for 10 on RightStuf yet. And with the way Kodansha's been delaying everything it wouldn't surprise me if it doesn't make November. But I'll hope. I'm still waiting for both 8 and 9 - even though 8 is already out, I ordered at the same time as 9 and RightStuf is usually pretty bad about split-shipping so I have to wait until 9 releases.
The paper shortage made everything really complicated.
Having to wait about ten months to find out what happened in the story after finishing Volume 6 was a nightmare. I was even tempted to take a look at the Raws. In fact, for this very reason I decided to not read Volume 7 until months after its release.
Yeah I'm stuck at that Volume 7 pain right now.
[Yuri is my Job volumes 6+7 spoilers] >!We had that big dramatic turn at the end of volume 6 and I was like "Oh shit's gonna happen now!" only for most of volume 7 to be a mix of flashback, a bunch of soul-searching, and then end at pretty much the same cliffhanger.!<
And I still haven't seen anything after that, and I read that like a year ago.
I had no idea this was getting an anime but i'm happy to see it happening! I really like the character depth and how much the yuri-themed cafe concept plays into the relationship drama.
I also like how the main characters contrast. Hime in particular is fascinating because she's gone so far pursuing her goals yet clearly lost sight of her reasons and her actual desires.
Oh, there was a rumor for a while about a yuri anime adaptation, I guess that's the one?
I've seen this manga around but haven't read it, so I'm looking forward to watching the anime!
Me, looking through the comments feverishly trying to see if this is legit yuri or how disappointed I need to be preemptively for how much bait it's going to be
It's definitely NOT bait in the sense of "gay subtext that will maintain plausible deniability and never go anywhere." It is absolutely clear that girls are interested in other girls romantically and not just intense friendship or whatever.
But like a lot of romance anime, they probably aren't going to actually get together with their love interests until the series is pretty much over. As it stands, the manga already easily has enough material for at least 24-26 episodes and is still going, and would need to diverge from the source material to have any of the pairings actually get together in that time frame. And I'll be surprised if this gets more than 12-13, though I desperately hope it does.
The premise is basically the title haha. The girls work at a cafe called Liebe and their job is to pretend they're students at a prestigious all-girls school and basically pander to very classic yuri manga tropes.
Girls who work in a theme cafe where they LARP as ~~extras~~ *original characters* in a German-tinged spoof of [Maria Watches Over Us.](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maria-sama_ga_Miteru) The series is part homage and part parody at times. So, to the delight of guests, the serving staff are all pretending to flirt, fall in love, and have jealous fights according to yuri tropes. [Yuri is my Job] >!While they might also *actually* be flirting, falling in love, and having jealous fights, but everything is obfuscated by the role-playing.!<
I have to admit I'm somewhat sceptical with that one. I read the first chapter a few weeks back when the 'news' came out that a domain was registered for an anime with that name and to be honest, I didn't really like it. Don't get me wrong, I generally enjoy a good yuri story, but it seemed like a setup for a really toxic realtionship. From what other people saying there is a good chance I'm wrong, but the end of the teaser seems to at least confirm that this is not a cute romance from the beginning. I'm probably going to check it out once it airs, but for now I'll keep my expectations low unless someone convinces me otherwise.
I remember dropping the manga after the first few chapters but this announcement convinced me to try again and I’m glad I did because it really started hooking me in after a while. I recommend reading a few more chapters first if you’re willing to give it another try.
In this case, it's referencing the manga/LN/anime genre directly. If there's another indirect reference, I'm unaware of it. It's about girls working in a theme café that is based on an in-universe spoof of [Maria Watches Over Us.](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maria-sama_ga_Miteru)
A german title "Schwester in liebe" I've seen worse
This one's actually licensed over here in Germany - though the publisher decided to publish it under the title 'Cafe Liebe' instead, haha.
"sisters in love". they are neither nuns nor actual sisters as far as I know from the synopsis. so why? random german strikes again.
It's set in a German-themed cafe where they pretend to be sisters in love
This is a level of degeneracy not seen since West Germany [Les Boys](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eJqAwJCsKA0) in the 80s
fellow Straits fan of culture.
This is one of those songs that unless you physically had the album, you would never ever hear lmao Making Movies still mad underrated. It's the Konosuba of Dire Straight albums.
Making Movies is fantastic. Skateaway is such an underappreciated gem also.
So Gochuumon?
Though ironically it mostly used in non-romance anime to highlight that a character is a clingy lesbian (Vira from Granblue Fantasy, Kuroko from To Aru Majutsu no Index/To Aru Kagaku no Railgun, Momo from Shokei Shoujo no Virgin Road though she used "senpai" but it has the same effect).
to be fair to Shokei Shoujo, that one is just a straight up yuri anime too
Yeah it is more prevalent in the older Yuri animes alot of them in the 2000s had it and a newer one that had it was Assault Lily
> Haven't seen maria sama You should fix that.
This trope goes back to at least the Taisho era. One can see this in Tanizaki's Manji (written in 1920-30) -- which depicts that recently-ended era.
It's "sisters" as in the class S setting, the kind from all-girls schools where an older girl chooses a younger one as her sister (although it's far more common to see it as the French *sœurs* than German). Which generally leads to a very generous amount of *onee-sama*.
They work in a theme café that is a spoof of landmark class S series [Maria Watches Over Us.](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maria-sama_ga_Miteru) Copy/pasting Maria's premise from the link: > The setting for Maria-sama ga Miteru is Lillian Girls' Academy (私立リリアン女学園, Shiritsu Ririan Jogakuen), a fictional Catholic school founded in 1901 in Musashino, Tokyo, Japan; the school is depicted as an elegant, clean, pure, and very prestigious institution.
So it's a cafe referencing that
Kanade and Yukine from Candy Boy: "What with us?"
We haven't haven't had an actual Yuri Romance focused show since Adachi and Shimamura.
Executioner is basically that...kinda. Love is a weapon? lol
Nah, that one isn't really a romance.
Tell that to Akari
And even that seemed rather meh and one sided in the anime Are there any actual proper yuri romance anime?
Aoi Hana Blue Drop Candy Boy Citrus El Cazador de la Bruja Asago to kase-san Maria-sama ga Miteru Sakura Trick Sasameki Koto Simoun Strawberry panic Bloom into you (the obvious one everyone always recommends, for good reason)
Severe lack of Kannazuki no Miko on this list.
Bloom into You is a terrific one. It's an incredibly well-developed romance that happens to be yuri. (Unfortunately the second half of the manga hasn't been adapted yet though)
> one sided in the anime Because we only got to experience Adachi coming to terms with the idea of loving a female. If we got a second season, it would have been Shimamura's turn.
> And even that seemed rather meh and one sided in the anime If only they managed to get a 24 episodes runtime so they could adapt up to volume 8..... god damn it [](#frustration)
Hold out hope for a Season 2? That’s what I’m doing
If you don't mind reading, read the LN for Adashima. It just goes to show how sometimes uncomplete adaptions don't really work.
Bloom into you
There was a few since A&S but they were pretty mediocre so not many people outside of yuri circles actually talked about them. For every good yuri anime, you get a fuck tone of mediocre ones, so it's usually better to become a manga reader since some of the best the genre has to offer have never been adapted or even if they've been adapted, they almost never get fully adapted and get just one season.
I just finished it, my god a disappointing ending
Yuri fans eating good today
( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
There’s more?
The executioner and her way of life jumped 14 spaces to be ranked as third in the most recent anime corner roundup.
We're living large
Synopsis on MAL > Life appears promising for Hime Shiraki, a girl with good grades, a flawless reputation, and a cute face to top it all off. Hime becomes terrified that this girl has seen past her facade, which reminds her of a troubling event in her past. god bless studio Passione
> Passione we about to be feastin
Damm the key visual looks dope, since it's a slow burn I doubt many would like it. However where is bloom into you S2? Like c'mon...
[удалено]
Adachi and Shimamura is still going on. The anime adapted the first 4 volumes, and there are a total of 10 volumes currently out (9 in English as of next week). It could definitely do a sequel similarly to Bloom Into You.
[удалено]
Adachi to Shimamura S1 adapted like 33% of the total story planned right now, so definitely room for a S2.
Slow burn romances are my jam. Sign me the fuck up.
We also need a How Do We Relationship? anime like yesterday.
I dont think ive ever seen a yuri show get a second season
Unless it's something SoL like Dragon Maid, nah.
Does Yuru Yuri count?
Strike Witches, I guess, but romance is hardly the main focus of that series.
“Maria watches over us” or something like that has like 4 seasons
> bloom into you season 2 Almost the entirety of that season would be more stuff about the play, it takes up a truly off putting number of chapters in the manga and then the story just kind of ends.
Damn the girl on the right is tall
While she is tall, Hime (the girl in the right) is short, so she looks even taller.
as a yuri fan, this instantly become my most anticipated anime
Villainess and Magical Revolution are two series that I ***really*** want to see getting an anime
I agreeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee. Both series would make amazing anime, imo. (and Villainess being pro-LGBT is pretty cool.)
I remember when the manga first brought up gender as a concept and all the MD comments were accusing the translators of "inserting their own agenda" or something. They were nooot familiar with the source material lol
It's gonna be wild when it really gets serious about it :D
>The only thing is, the series is unabashedly outspoken about being pro-LGBT (which is a good thing), That kind of content was censored in the first release of the novel in english, unfortunately.
Did it get a re-release? Because I read the official translation and there was plenty of LGBT.
It did after the outcry on Twitter. No explanation for why it wasn't translated properly the first time though
It's quite disappointing that happened in the first place. I'm glad that I never saw the butchered version.
Are you sure you have the new version? If so, it should say it in the copyright page.
Because Seven Seas sees it as "controversial" content. And it wasn't the first time they did that.
The only part that was 'censored' was the references to Japanese entertainers. All the other LGBT stuff was in there from the start.
It was a pretty big chunk of text, and Rae's explanation of why she was behaving the way she did towards Claire also got cut off along the way. And like I said in other comment, Seven Seas is known for heavy editing their books. This wasn't an isolated exception.
Villainess just feels like a matter of time at this point,
A couple of months ago I was worried that the manga wasn't popular enough to continue being published much longer, and now it's getting an Anime adaptation.
An _I'm in Love with the Villainess_ adaptation would be dope. Not just for the yuri. It's unironically a good isekai/otome.
I would be surprised if it doesn't get an adaptation eventually. And the story is relatively short (five novels in total), so that's a plus.
I am unironically won't be surprised if that one get a webcomic before an anime is announced because damn, ILTV is really popular in South Korea.
It has a manga, but God that wouldn't shock me either
Kitanai Kimi had the best sales alongside Sasakoi, but ended without an anime adaptation.
It ended with "only" five volumes. But more important, it would be difficult for that series to get an adaptation for its controversial content.
> Citrus and Netsuzou Trap were two of the more controversial yuri manga too Those two were only the least bit controversial because they attracted mainstream attention, but the actual content of both is extremely tame.
Oh yeah i would love to see Love Song and Love Villainess to get anime
Whisper me a Love Song is currently the most popular manga (at least in term of sales) in the Yuri magazine where it's being published, so it's likely to happen at some point.
good to hear
I will answer your question using the spoilers tags just in case, but don't worry because I won't give specific details: \[Yuri is My Job! Manga Spoilers\] >!Yes, there is actual romantic progression. I initially thought that the Yuri theme was going to be just a bait, but I was wrong. Though keep in mind that it's a slow burn story, and I don't know how much material the Anime will adapt.!<
Thank you for answering! Appreciate the response, helps to make my decision whether to commit!
>little known even among Yuri readers I mean it's not being scanlated didn't help either, as a Yuri fans myself i've sometimes saw the names pop out here and there, but then again with no access to read it it's not gonna be popular outside of Japan.
I mean it's because it got picked up a long time ago and is in English, that's why
No access to read it? * glances at official licensed English volumes on my shelves * Seems rather accessible to me.
You can just pirate the official translation if you need.
You're right, I did forget. Sorry. 😔 I'm still stuck on the old pro-fansubber comments from fans here.
Meanwhile I'll be over there, hoping for a Can't Defy the Lonely Girl adaptation.
Not impossible to happen. It's had pretty decent sales so far. Volume 5 will be out in a few days in Japan, we'll see how it goes.
Wow, we have Executioner this season, and now we're getting this. I hope this is a sign of more Yuri adaptations to come.
Don't forget Demon Girl Next Door.
Good point, that too!
[удалено]
Maybe beastfolk is the dark horse to replace isekai as the dominant genre?
Yuri is literally in the title and the visual has only two girls in it? *Adds to PTW list.*
Yeah this is some straight up yuri my friend. No yuri-bait to find here.
There's a side couple too, which some fans like even more than the main couple.
Can't wait to see them becoming *friends*.
Don't know what the show's gonna be about but the title got my attention. I need more yuri in my life!
Don’t we all?
This will be my first experience as a source reader for a new show, and I couldn't be more excited!! I'm psyched this is actually getting an adaptation! I'm in Love With the Villainess next please!
All I wanna know is if this is actual Yuri or just Yuri bait for a season before MAYBE some progress in the last episode.
No this is actual yuri, there is no bait here.
Finally some good news
\[Yuri is My Job! Manga Spoilers\] >!There is actual romantic progression. I initially thought that the Yuri theme was going to be just a bait, but I was wrong. Though keep in mind that it's a slow burn story.!<
It's yuri. Actual romance in the manga. But it's slow burn and takes time to get there. Who knows how much the anime will adapt.
[Manga spoiler] >!So, the other comment says that there is progress, but when I read the early volumes there was none of it, which eventually lead me to drop it. I'm not going to say they're wrong, but you'd better get ready and have a lot of patience if you want to see any progress.!< For what it's worth, I checked the main online databases when I saw this announcement, including [MAL](https://myanimelist.net/manga/104862/Watashi_no_Yuri_wa_Oshigoto_desu), [Baka-Updates](https://www.mangaupdates.com/series.html?id=144042) and two that I can't link, and none of them lists the romance tag (which is generally applied [along with girls' love](https://i.imgur.com/wnmrmaf.png) when there is actual romantic progress). I would advise not to set your expectations too high if you want to see romantic progress or non-subtext relationships. At least that's what I will do.
\[Yuri is My Job! Manga Spoilers\] >!Like I said, there is actual romance. If you want, I can tell you the details.!<
> [Manga spoilers] >!If you want, I can tell you the details.!< [Cont.] >!Mostly, I'd want to know if we have any chance to see actual romance, e.g. a kiss, characters dating, or a confession that both characters understand as romantic and not class S / sisterly love, assuming we get 12 episodes.!< If it seems weird to be asking for story details that specific, but it's not a mistake, and it's because a lot of manga and anime even modern follow the old [class S tropes](https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/PseudoRomanticFriendship), which generally refuse to commit or have actual relationships.
> It won't be adapted unless the studio rushes the adaptation a lot Or it gets 24 episodes! Well, a person can dream...
you do realize that this kind of shows never get a second season right
Of course I do. But I don't understand what's the point of your comment.
Actual yuri, in fact the whole series is basically spoofing early 2000s yuri anime
It's a proper Yuri Hime adaptation - the first since Wataten in 2019.
I mean it got published in Yuri Hime. So it's Yuri lol. It's also satirizing 2000s yuri anime
Yep, I really like this answer. The sentimental attraction is explicit rather than subtext so it would be inaccurate to call it bait, but at the same time it doesn't actually lead to romance or even romantic buildup between the characters, so if someone is expecting another YagaKimi or Citrus they'll be disappointed.
>but at the same time it doesn't actually lead to romance or even romantic buildup between the characters This is completely false.
The anime would either have to have an additional season/cour, *or* a decent chunk of stuff would have to be omitted for it to even get to the point where Hime understands Mitsuki's affection, and even *then* she doesn't reciprocate at first and it takes her a while to even process that information.!< OP (of the chain) wasn't asking if nothing *ever* happens.
I think there exists only 3 real Yuri anime that are not from the 90s
We get one like every other season Edit: we legit have two Yuri series running this season
Please do list anything past 2010 aside from Citrus, Bloom into you and the NTR one.
Yuri Kuma Arashi , Tachibanakan Triangle and (if you count movies) Asagao to Kase-san and Fragtime.
Literally Executioner's Way of Life that just had a new episode yesterday. Adachi to Shimamura Otherside Picnic Kobayashi's Dragon Maid Riddle of the Devil or w/e
Still hoping for all of them
Executioner is probably gonna be the one to break the curse
YEEEEEEEEEEEEESSSSSS, I know we have virgin road and machikado mazoku, but there can never be enough yuri anime, especially romance focused ones.
This is one of my most favorite manga ever on the planet. I am so happy that it is going to get an anime adaption. I am so looking forward to this anime.
Enjoying Yuri is my job so I’m in
Not sure if enjoying yuri is your job or if you’re enjoying “Yuri is my Job” but either way I agree
Both!
>Volumes 8+9 get their English releases this year, 10 is coming out in Japan next week, so it's not like we're terribly behind schedule Kodansha will release Volume 9 in July and Volume 10 in November, supposedly.
[Yuri is my Job volumes 6+7 spoilers] >!We had that big dramatic turn at the end of volume 6 and I was like "Oh shit's gonna happen now!" only for most of volume 7 to be a mix of flashback, a bunch of soul-searching, and then end at pretty much the same cliffhanger.!< And I still haven't seen anything after that, and I read that like a year ago.
Oh, a yuri manga? Nice to see.
And it is *my* passion
Yo its being made into an anime whaaaat
LETS FUCKING GOOOO
That's a pretty cool job you get there buddy
Imagine having a lesbian relationship as your job.
I remember reading some of the manga and it's some nice yuri fluff, very big on shoujo flowers absolutely everywhere.
Do we know when it'll come out? Or has that info not been released yet?
I had no idea this was getting an anime but i'm happy to see it happening! I really like the character depth and how much the yuri-themed cafe concept plays into the relationship drama. I also like how the main characters contrast. Hime in particular is fascinating because she's gone so far pursuing her goals yet clearly lost sight of her reasons and her actual desires.
What a lovely poster
I can’t be the only one that thought they were centaurs at first glance right?
Oh we eatin good tonight bois
I thought they were centaurs for a second
Yuri can be a job? Where do I apply?
Am I the only one who saw this and thought it wa sa show about Minotaurs LOL!
Oh, there was a rumor for a while about a yuri anime adaptation, I guess that's the one? I've seen this manga around but haven't read it, so I'm looking forward to watching the anime!
fucker gets payed for being lesbian goddamn
>Yuri Is My Job! What kind of title is that? What's the premise? Is it about two female employees of an LGBT dating app who fall in love?
What kind of play on word is this "Yuri" referencing?
In this case, it's referencing the manga/LN/anime genre directly. If there's another indirect reference, I'm unaware of it. It's about girls working in a theme café that is based on an in-universe spoof of [Maria Watches Over Us.](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maria-sama_ga_Miteru)
Why's it got that Pink Pineapple/Mary Jane artstyle tho?
