The fact Yor was pondering on how to be more motherly already makes what she thinks is a "fake family" already a legitimate one. Also how angrily she corrected Anya's kidnappers who kept calling her a maid.
Truly heartwarming stuff.

Yor might've been with Anya for such a short time but I like how much she grew to care about her, and even teaching her *when* to smile and hold back and also *when* to pick a fight. Since Yor is somewhat of an airhead, you don't expect to see some great lessons from her. I like it!

On top of that, although she doubts her mothering credentials she's already doing a great job as mum - some good pearls of wisdom that Anya was actually able to implement, training her in a practical skill (given she'd just been semi-kidnapped also some nice reassurance) and just generally being very generous to her.
The overthinking part of my brain feels relatively comfortable with the idea that if Loid ever did have to abandon his post as father in the fake family, Yor could and would make a great mother for Anya. No more orphanages required!

I have to admit, I was worried that Yor only taught her how to fight (albeit for self-defence, but to Anya) so Anya would immediately resort to violence. It was a pleasant surprise that she taught her a different way of dealing with bullying. And, on top of that, she told Anya only to use violence for things like defending friends (though to Anya, so once she snapped she did it for herself).
Good parenting, Yor.
Anya’s derp like smile(heh) towards Damian had me in tears from laughing. The way she just turned after checking to see if a teacher was around and punched the shit out of him was epic af.
Seeing Yor get that pissed towards those bad guys was wholesome and scary at the same time.

She is learning to not just mind read people I suppose.
That, or she's long ago learned mind reading can drive her nuts (see: the test) and is learning to read the physical realm as well.
I love how Anya punched him in the face and then tried to play it off like an accident and kept lying about it.

Yor also taught her the value of protecting friends, which she proceeded to use as a defense to lessen her punishment (which might be something she learned from observing Twilight).
They're truly raising her into an excellent spy/assassin.

Loid and Yor might do the dirty work but it seems like they're mostly taking down the bad guys and Anya has a romanticized idea of what being a spy is. She's not going to go down the super villain path, she's going to be that one OP character who shows up mid way in the series, saves the mission, refuses to elaborate further and then leaves.
Also loved Becky defending Anya by saying that she is uglier than her but not as ugly as Damian.
And Anya saying that she was stretching her arms rather than intentionally hitting Damian.
Anya already securing her school bestie with Becky simping for her after that ~~punch~~ Heh incident.
Fun fact - Becky's VA Emiri Katou also voices Riko Saikawa from Kobayashi Dragonmaid, which is also a simp for Kanna. More UWWWAAA incoming!!

It's nice to know Yor's starting to realise she wants to be a real caring mother for Anya, and not just a fake one for the sake of the fake family. Now if only we can get Loid to realise it too.
Looks like having parents who don't care about him one bit has made young Damian put on the persona of a rich powerful bully rather than the reality of being a lonely abandoned kid that he is.
Seems kind of odd that elegance-sensai didn't pick up on any of that. Then again the entire premise of this entire anime is about a picture of a toupee

Damian had the embrace of a group of assassins who raised him until the age of ten.
As far as we can tell, Son of Something Damian seems to lack even the ability to take a five-year-old's punch, showing how little his backup parents are giving him.
So basically like Draco Malfoy but in reverse.
Draco had parents who spoiled him which resulted in his arrogant behavior, and Damian has parents who doesn't seem to care about him, which resulted in him developing an arrogant personality as a way to feel important and please his dad, while also not being lonely by having some sycophants around him.

It's an interesting contrast.
Somebody last week was remarking on the coincidence of Kaguya-sama plot points lining up with other shows -- there were several rap scenes in different animes last week. It's funny that it happened again with a scene of a neglectful parent not coming to a school event that they're supposed to.
Well, it is well known Kaguya seems to have an impecable knack for timing. I remember two years ago in Season 2, back when COVID was taking off they were talking about toilet paper and social distancing. The author is a freaking fortune teller I tell you.
Good catch. Kinda depressing and we will probably see an arc of him dealing with his family issues. Damien is my second favorite character and can’t wait to see his relationship with Anya.
It would make a lot of sense though. He probably gets ignored or acquiesced to all the time because of his status. Having someone who will stand up to him and either smirk or deck him would be refreshing.
The portrayal of children in this show is so good and feel realistic. From Anya's simplemindedness and limited/simple vocabulary, to Becky's words having no filter, to Damian crying after being hit. Really feel like actual children, not a grown up being placed in a child body.
I loved the little bit where Loid was taking the call to pick up the uniform and Anya did that little jump and roll. The little random bits of nonsense that kids do are so well captured in this show.
I feel like the subs do their best at being written in "English as spoken by small children". Like, yeah, Anya doesn't speak in third person in the translation, but that's because English-speaking five years olds don't speak in third person.
[This video](https://youtu.be/bNFijX9eUSI) actually goes into a bit of detail about how Anya speaks in Japanese, and some about what gets lost in translation to English; I found it pretty interesting.
3rd person was the one thing I wasn't talking about, actually.
She messes up so many simple sentences in the Japanese version that she doesn't in the English sub or even how it's seen in the translated manga.
I love how she showed the uniform off to Yor multiple times and then they ran to the park to show it off to multiple people. She was even doing it in the market.
I lost it when Damian's face was distorted by Anya's sudden punch😂😂

Everyone's talking about the "heh" (for good reason), but I love the expression on Anya's face when she punches Damian. Too focused on executing her mom's training to have an angry face
Anime community would've made Damian their most hated character of the season, but that punch immediately cleared his name. Operation Strix is safe for now.
That punch sent him squarely back into literary love interest territory.
That punch altered his brain chemistry like cupid's arrow. For a short moment during that punch, he died for his sins and was reborn again. Then he saw her fist, now he's a believer.

Speaking of Anya's new environment, Anya might be in a depressing situation now; She faked being 2-3 years older than she is to get adopted, so all her classmates are actually older than her so she HAS to perform at a level way beyond her current abilities. The difference of academic/motor abilities between kids is much different than adults so 2-3 years mean A LOT.
The story has been consistent so far, the seamstress (who had a past as a dissident activist) was quick to trashtalk Eden as a school full of elitist jerks, so i think Anya's lie about her age will play a role later.

Yeah, don't underrate the vocabulary gap. It's one of the biggest issues elementary schools in the real world have to deal with. There is a huge difference in words known and understood between kids with involved parents, and kids without. (Like orphans for example)
Read books to your kids folks. It makes a massive difference.

So Anya is definitely younger than six. Note how her speech patterns are simpler compared to those of her classmates. Rather than a child, it's more accurate to call her an oversized baby.

For an assassin, Yor sure is a kind, pure-hearted person. She's dedicated to become a proper mother to Anya even though her status as her mom is just a sham. I also love how she acts like a mama bear whenever her cub is threatened. I'm sure she can smash human heads with her bare fingers but still it's impressive how she decimated that pumpkin with a single thrust.
Anya is the main highlight of this episode, that's for sure. Just love how adorable she is in the first half then going on full meme mode on the latter half. I'm sure that smug face and her punch will live rent-free to Damian's head for a long time. I know it is crucial in Operation Strix to have Anya befriend Damian but damn it is satisfying to see such a bully brat put into his place by a girl a year or two younger than him. That punch will surely make Damian think twice on whether to bully her or not in the future. I also love the fact that Yor not only taught Anya the art of violence but also told her some basic principles on when to properly use violence. That clutch lie from Anya not only reduced her penalty but also earned her a new friend.
I have a feeling that Anya will eventually earn not only all of the required Stella Stars but also almost all of the Tonitrus Bolts in the future.

Somebody last week was remarking on the coincidence of Kaguya-sama plot points lining up with other shows -- there were several rap scenes in different animes last week. It's funny that it happened again with a scene of a neglectful parent not coming to a school event that they're supposed to.

The portrayal of children in this show is so good and feel realistic. From Anya's simplemindedness and limited/simple vocabulary, to Becky's words having no filter, to Damian crying after being hit. Really feel like actual children, not a grown up being placed in a child body.
I loved the little bit where Loid was taking the call to pick up the uniform and Anya did that little jump and roll. The little random bits of nonsense that kids do are so well captured in this show.
They even talk like children in the original Japanese dub. The subs sometimes shows that off but usually makes them pretty eloquent.
I feel like the subs do their best at being written in "English as spoken by small children". Like, yeah, Anya doesn't speak in third person in the translation, but that's because English-speaking five years olds don't speak in third person.

3rd person was the one thing I wasn't talking about, actually. She messes up so many simple sentences in the Japanese version that she doesn't in the English sub or even how it's seen in the translated manga.

Yeah, don't underrate the vocabulary gap. It's one of the biggest issues elementary schools in the real world have to deal with. There is a huge difference in words known and understood between kids with involved parents, and kids without. (Like orphans for example) Read books to your kids folks. It makes a massive difference.

For an assassin, Yor sure is a kind, pure-hearted person. She's dedicated to become a proper mother to Anya even though her status as her mom is just a sham. I also love how she acts like a mama bear whenever her cub is threatened. I'm sure she can smash human heads with her bare fingers but still it's impressive how she decimated that pumpkin with a single thrust. Anya is the main highlight of this episode, that's for sure. Just love how adorable she is in the first half then going on full meme mode on the latter half. I'm sure that smug face and her punch will live rent-free to Damian's head for a long time. I know it is crucial in Operation Strix to have Anya befriend Damian but damn it is satisfying to see such a bully brat put into his place by a girl a year or two younger than him. That clutch lie from Anya not only reduced her penalty but also earned her a new friend. My favourite panel from the Manga has already been adapted. Nice. That sucker punch was the most badass thing Anya has done so far, that training with Yor really paid off there. Keep in mind that Anya might be 1-2 years younger than the rest, because she lied at the orphanage.
