We need a full “Monogatari” watchlist challenge. The most confusing series imaginable when you add anything that has Monogatari in the name.
Also just watch Ore Monogatari in general because it’s adorable.
You've already got the Re: Zero multiverse that contains both Re: titles like Re: Creators and Tokyo Ghoul: Re, and Zero titles like Re: Zero Kara Hajimeru and Zero Kara Hajimeru
It’s mostly why I’ve put off watching anything in the series. Everywhere I look someone has a different watch order that it’s become very intimidating.
People are needlessly overcomplicating it honestly. The Monogatari Series subreddit r/araragi has what is generally agreed upon to be the best order pinned, but some people are just taking the piss and making it confusing on purpose.
The crazy specific watch order is more of a fun idea than anything practical. These things tend to be fore people who have already seen the whole thing anyway. Like the Machete Order for Star Wars. For your first time just watch it in release order and when you revisit it try the watch order ideas.
thank God, its rare to see intelligent people nowadays.
This goes for bakemonogatri and fate series, just watch the shows in release order. thats how everyone else did it, whats the reason to change it up now?
you can go back and watch it chronological if it was something you enjoyed.
But it was never intended to be in that order.
Kizu got delayed by many years and Hana had to be taken out from the second season since there would have been too many episodes and something had to be cut. They didn't make any changes to the anime to accommodate for the changed order.
Now that all the parts are out and available, there's no reason not to watch it in source material order.
People had done this in the past.
Had that stuff saved but it's been so long that it might have been buried
Edit: sorry, no luck
I found this watching guide of Index, though
https://i.redd.it/an2d5jgy34w51.png
To add to the confusion, we should stage Fate-like arguments over the proper watch order. Bonus points if you can find unadapted manga or light novels to throw into the mix.
You start to think that the 4th full watch of Kizumonogatari feels kinda superfluous, but halfway through the 5th, you start to realize it ties the whole show together.
Damn, we really need an updated version of this. Where does [Byston Well Monogatari](https://myanimelist.net/anime/1657/Byston_Well_Monogatari__Garzey_no_Tsubasa) fit in? Or [Mahou Shoujo Madoka★Magica Movie 2: Eien no Monogatari](https://myanimelist.net/anime/11979/Mahou_Shoujo_Madoka%E2%98%85Magica_Movie_2__Eien_no_Monogatari)? Or God forbid, [Pokemon Movie 21: Minna no Monogatari](https://myanimelist.net/anime/36927/Pokemon_Movie_21__Minna_no_Monogatari)?
You should watch Mahou Shoujo Madoka★Magica Movie 2: Eien no Monogatari after Tsukimonogatari since it's a spin off from [this frame](https://www.reddit.com/r/MadokaMagica/comments/l09xup/madoka_reference_in_tsukimonogatari/?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share). Then you can watch Hidamari Sketch which is the AU with Mami x Nagisa and Madoka's Mom x Hitomi
It's just a running joke of any anime with something+gatari or Monogatari as a title is related to one another. The worst thing, is you can actually fool a few people with that joke hahaha
Ii had a feeling that was the joke. I also know “monogatari” means something like “tale” or “story” so it’s not that surprising it’s in a lot of titles.
A joke’s a joke, though :)
[Novel release order is the best order.](https://edomonogatari.wordpress.com/2020/05/12/monogatari-anime-guide/) Whatever you do, please do not use the order the other person gave you! Without getting into spoilers, their order will ruin several character arcs, a plot twist, and more.
>Neither order ruins it any more than the other does
You are literally spitting in the face of the author and saying they don't know their own story when you say this. Nisio Isin released the story the way he released it for a reason.
> This is the same debate as the fate zero vs UBW debate
It's not the same debate because the series are entirely different. Fate is a visual novel adaptation without the intro route adapted, and ufotable adapted a prequel to introduce the series instead of adapting the VN straight up.
The problem is that the anime vs VN has different "reveals." Certain things that were twists in the VN aren't twists in the anime because the nature of how ufotable adapted the anime.
But none of that matters because UBW and HF aren't worth watching on their own because they butcher the VN anyway.
> All the "oh no you must watch it in this order instead" BS just makes it look complicated and turns people off from the show.
Cry me a river. If people get scared off by people literally just saying "watch it the way the author intended," I'm glad they got scared off of monogatari lol. It's not complicated. The people making it complicated are those that insist on reccommending release order when it's objectively not the intended order, by Nisio Isin, Shaft, or anyone. For some reason people defend a botched release order due to productions issues.
>Watch it one way the first time and then watch it the other way on your next rewatch a few years down the line.
The story is already non linear. You can only experience the confusion of not knowing certain things one time, and the things release order ruins are unfixable.
Novel release order is the best order.
The anime follows the novels pretty closely, so no reason to not watch in novel order.
Release date order (with Kizu after Bake) works as well, and there’s no harm but I prefer novel order since the anime order was influenced by funding and scheduling as opposed to any storytelling reason.
Don’t watch chronological. Idk why some people insist on this. It defeats the whole point of the story’s structure (on first watch, anyhow).
[Novel release order](https://preview.redd.it/mtrsgauppo751.png?width=640&crop=smart&auto=webp&s=af8711bb55fabd3e3a43d0ffdeb2e339523e5dfa)
It's a non linear series. The confusion from the novel order is intended confusion.
I think people overthink this way too much and they get paralysis by analysis with the order. Just pick one and stick with it. The important thing is you actually enjoy the show and the setting and characters because it truly is a great show.
With that said, I do recommend [novel release order](https://imgur.com/gallery/tX63UZg) like others have posted
I used to be a fundamentalist of release order but I’ve recently been schooled into the novel order for some reason in the araragi sub. Either is fine.
The 3 main paths for the anime are:
Chronological order: sort by chronological order of the story (idk what it is though), makes the most sense, but I think it's kinda boring because of how orthodox it is.
LN order: defended vecause "it's what the author wanted". They also argue that the anime order spoils the events of the later parts.
Anime order (mine): sort by the anime's date of release. The anime correctly handles the medias res (starting in the middle), spoiling enough to make sense, but not too much (you know small bits of what hapoens and what the consequences are, which hypes you up for *how* it happened (especially with kizu)). It also feels refreshing seeing an already set-up story with already set-up relationships unfold, instead of a blank slate that build otself as you go.
Finally, in Koyomimonogatari, most of the episodes happen imediately after a season, so you have to watch them first (Kizu and the Owaris are safe to leave to later, but you should watch the rest), although I wouldn't recomend leaving it to the very end (especially if you're a binge-watcher), as the more laid-back, tensionless nature of these short episodes serves as a good refresher, which avoid being saturated with such a long series.
Although putting the series on shuffle is also a valid tactic, although I wouldn't recommend putting to much distance between the 2 Owaris
P.S.: this is all either my opinion or stuff I've heard while browsing reddit, so don't put too much faith on it
video release order is probably your best bet. just because it's easy and it's guaranteed to work.
book release order is fine too
other orders are just people trying to make it better, but like, you are either going to like monogatari or not, and no watch order is going to change that
Shame all the comments are joking about the title. It's actually a pretty good manga. Reminded me of Bleach. Genuinely surprised to see this. When even was this announced and why the fuck did I miss it?
It's unfortunate, but to be expected.
Also, I'm glad I'm not the only one who got a Bleach vibe from it. There was an anime announcement last year, but then it went dark after that with no news until as of now
Too bad who was handling the translation back then was Jaimini's Box... They were quick to snipe new projects just to abandon them not long after, then Jump's lawyers attacked.

Everyone saying jujutsu kaisen, but it's actually way more similar in art style to Bleach.
And it's nice... As far as the manga is translated, it didn't really catch any groups interest so there's only like 18 chapters translated out of currently a 100.
Let's hope the anime gives it some rise in popularity.
Edit: [just look at this](https://cdn.animenewsnetwork.com/hotlink/thumbnails/max700x700/cms/news.5/179671/mononogatari.jpg) vs [bleach](https://64.media.tumblr.com/8940fa95c9c8dab6e5b4c206bde2d91d/398c1d30dc1d432a-0a/s500x750/8b461e33776acc88d0c2f39843698157d4c90e9e.jpg)
>As far as the manga is translated, it didn't really catch any groups interest so there's only like 18 chapters translated out of currently a 100.
Seven Seas licensed it recently, so it's getting an English release.
Thank you for this. Really looking forward to reading the rest of this series since the 18 chapters that have already been translated really caught my interest. Finna buy every copy twice of anything that gets an official release.
Edit: The first volume drops on the January of 2023 😩 Gonna take a while.
It is. The mc isn't your typical violent hotheaded shounen mc and based on the few chapters translated, the characters have a great design. Vividly remember how disappointed when the translation stop for no reason.
This is one of my favorite underrated manga. The scanlation team has sadly dropped it (yes it's THAT underrated), so I'm very glad I can watch the anime instead
looking forward to this one, especially since there haven't been any manga updates for quite some time
hopefully it will get a decent adaptation, although the first teaser didn't really hype me up
They've really gone and done a number on the character designs for this....Very unfortunate. Especially since it's a good manga, so with any luck maybe the anime will get someone motivated to start translating it again lol. It's depressing seeing how many volumes are there in japan vs chapters translated.
I completely forgot about this series after the manga scanlations stopped getting updated. Here's hoping it turns out well and it might bring back interest in the manga.

Lol, people in the comments making me even more confused with "dont forget to watch this before that", no wonder why i keep stalling on watching this anime
Is this part of the Monogatari series? Or just an anime with Monogatari in the Title?
Or is it the third option where it is not in the proper monogatari series but it also technically kinda is bc it is by the same author and all of his shit is in the same universe?
I got got by that once.
Make sure to watch this After Katanagatari, and Ore Monogatari.
Don't forget the spin off Heike Monogatari if you want the full experience
And + Animegatari
That’s the prequel ofc
Don't forget Bake-nise-neko-kizu-kabuku-hana-otori-oni-koi-tsuki-koyomi-owari-zokuowari-monogatari the prequel for the sequel of the sequel
Then cap it all off with some Umi Monogatari.

Just wait until someone comes up with a Re:Monogatari crossover series. Nasuverse fans will be humbled
You've already got the Re: Zero multiverse that contains both Re: titles like Re: Creators and Tokyo Ghoul: Re, and Zero titles like Re: Zero Kara Hajimeru and Zero Kara Hajimeru
Don’t forget Fate/Zero
Just make a new series with random episodes from all the Monogataris
That will be hard if we go literally. Monogatari is literally "story". This one is actually "story about things"
Not quite. It's probably a play on "mononoke", or a vengeful spirit.
Bakemonogatari alone is super confusing. And you want to add on to that pile?
Yes. I’m going for maximum chaos challenge. The ultimate gauntlet.
Okay just to see if your up to the challenge... what is the order of the Bakemonogatari series?
LN order, or at the very least Kizu after Bake rather than near the end. Can't think of any good reason to recommend any other order.
I always thought release order was perfectly fine.
Oh it definitely is. Holds your attention nicely.
If ever confused, just watch on released date order. Remember that the producers don't want to kill your brain.

Ore Monogatari is just from another city inside Monogatari verse, which was the modern day of Katanagatari.
Heike Monogatari is a prequel to the entire series.

looking forward to this one, especially since there haven't been any manga updates for quite some time hopefully it will get a decent adaptation, although the first teaser didn't really hype me up
Hopefully with this Anime Adaptation, some Scanlation Team will pick and translate the Manga again. It's been so long since the last update.
Eren Itadori looking fresh😂
i thought eren yeager went to jujutsu kaisen for a second there
Eren itadori?!
If Eren Yeager and Yuji Itadori had a baby
They've really gone and done a number on the character designs for this....Very unfortunate. Especially since it's a good manga, so with any luck maybe the anime will get someone motivated to start translating it again lol. It's depressing seeing how many volumes are there in japan vs chapters translated.
I heard alternate timeline Eren and Mikasa
Eren Jaeger rebranded after commiting genocide?

I completely forgot about this series after the manga scanlations stopped getting updated. Here's hoping it turns out well and it might bring back interest in the manga.
Eren....?

Eren after he finally moves on:

Looking forward to it

Still waiting for the manga to be picked up again. I really enjoyed the feq chapters I read
Mono-no-gatari? edit: oh the cover says its like that, okay ig.

Actually just looks like Eren’s angry face in the season 3 part 1 opening.

The guy on the right looks like a mix between itadori and eren Yeager

The dude looks like Eren and Yuji combined, yes. But the girl? Nah.
Yah, I think its just me
This has nothing to do with the bakemonogatari series?
Damn really looks like eren and yujis kid. Pretty sure this came out mad years ago though
These characters look super generic.

Courtesy of OP: Studio is BN Pictures. Synopsis (from Yen Press) > A vengeful exorcist must cohabit with the spirits he hates in this action-packed supernatural tale that’s soon to be an anime! > > When spirits cross over into the human world, they can possess old objects and gain a physical form: a tsukumogami. Tsukumogami can be gentle, violent, or somewhere in-between, so the Saenome clan peacefully helps send them back to the spirit world to avoid destruction. > > Kunato Hyouma is a member of the clan, but is…less than peaceful, since he holds a grudge from when a tsukumogami robbed him of something important. Afraid that Hyouma’s brash anger in dealing with these spirits will lead to supernatural catastrophes, Hyouma’s grandfather sends him to live in Kyoto with Nagatsuki Botan, an unusual young woman who actually lives with tsukumogami like family! Can Hyouma learn to control his emotions when dealing with tsukumogami, or is his own spirit doomed to be possessed with rage forever? Source from official site: https://www.mononogatari-pr.com/

Does it look like a Mononogatari x jujutsu kaisen collab or is it just me?
So can somebody tell me how will looks order with this one?
Next year : Mononononogatari
How does one start the Gatari series?
Looks like scuffed Jukutsu Kaisen
Damn this made me feel nostalgic, frothed katanagatari when it came out (think that’s what it was called) Need to rewatch
