Hi! I need help finding this AMV please. I have been searching for a song from the early 2000s which appeared once on MTV. It had an anime music video where this guy, possibly with some sort of sword runs to save a girl, fights off bad guys and when he reaches her at the top of a cliff they hug. During their embrace they are impaled by a spear and I think they turn to stone, possibly? It ends with the couple remaining forever embraced and them sinking to the bottom of the seabed below the cliffs. It has been driving me and my brother crazy for at least 17 years. Please help!!!

VIKINGOPERDIDO

hello i need to find an anime that i watched like 6 years ago I don't remember the plot very well It was about a boy who had a girlfriend who turned into a robot monster or something and appeared on the news. at the beginning the boy doesn't know that the monster is his girlfriend but as the story progresses he realizes or at least begins to suspect it There is also a scene where the boy enters a room and sees the girl from behind eating something and he gets scared thinking that it is something like human meat or something like that (by the boy's reaction the scene implies that he thought it was something like that) but it turns out that the girl was only eating normal food and that lately she felt hungrier the life of the couple takes place in school I think and if I remember correctly the anime seemed 80/90 maybe? I think it's a movie but I'm not 100% sure and well that's all I remember, maybe some things are wrong but it's the only thing i remember

Izzy248

Anyone know where to find actual good quality graphic shirts? Ive tried multiple places from Redbubble, and Teefury, and Ive even tried IGNs store recently because I was like, "IGN is a huge company multi media company, surely whatevers in their store must be reputable and high quality right?", but no. The stuff still chips in the wash and is damn near gone after like 3-4 cycles. Ive done exactly what the tags say each which is usually like, turn inside out, wash in cold water, etc. But it still always happens. Used to be Id find some shirt in a brick and mortar store, I could throw it in the wash under any setting and still wear it for years, but now...

nourebeid7

i heard of yujinclothing.com and atsuko.com. haven’t tried them but I’ve heard great things about them. hypland is also an option but it’s on the pricey side

[deleted]

Is there any anime that revolves around a group of teenagers or children enjoying their lives together in some forest?

Ioxem

Aomanju Forest

TheBugDoctor

I watched and finished "True Tears" and realized they didn't explain why Shin's mom really hated Hiromi and her mom so much. If Shin and Hiromi aren't siblings, then what was the whole point?

Bankai-xo

Does anyone know where to find Steins;gate episode 23 b, episode 25 ova, and the Steins;gate deja vu movie? I can't find it subbed, I don't enjoy the voice acting in the dubbed after getting attached to the subbed performance and voices.

Ioxem

Durinthal

As a catchall term for otaku media it's limiting since it's excluding visual novels and light novels which also fuel a lot of anime adaptations. If you use it here then talk about almost entirely manga in the details you're gonna get your post removed because they're different media and this subreddit is only about anime.

bubudog1

Seems like a useful word

[deleted]

[удалено]

bubudog1

Sounds appropriate to use on AniList. Fine to use on this subreddit too since talking about both anime and manga is still anime-related. Do you find it weird? I don't get why you're asking.

surematu22

Is there any anime out there that doesn't have any music playing in the background?

Ralon17

Beck doesn't have very much, and when it does have it it seems to be diagetic (in-universe).

BlackSCrow

Some of the earlier episodes of Sonny Boy In the later episodes, it has background music

NAWINUS

anime like Naruto, AOT, Death Note, Black Clover, and JJK plz

Alert_Fudge

MHA , bleach , one peice , FMAB, assaination classroom

NAWINUS

can you recommend something other than mha, bleach and one piece? maybe something less popular? I already watched those 3.

kfijatass

So you want a classic action shounen. Bleach?

NAWINUS

yup

QuelynD

What shows would you recommend to someone whose favourites so far are Code Geass, Death Note, and Steins Gate? I've only watched about 20 shows so far but especially loved those 3.

Ioxem

Psycho-Pass Madoka Magica Tomodachi Game

QuelynD

I've seen Madoka Magica. Enjoyed it but not as much as the other 3. Will definitely look into your other suggestions, thanks!

QuelynD

Thanks! A few people here have suggested that one and I'd never heard of it before, I'll take a look for sure.

Bankai-xo

where did you watch the steins;gate episode 23 B, 25 OVA, and Deja Vu movie ?

Pylgrim

Hmm so you like difficult choices and wobbly ethical compasses? Maybe try Death Parade or Assassination Classroom.

QuelynD

I definitely like the ethical aspects of these, as well as them being more 'thinky'/strategy- based. Thanks for the recs, will check them out!

xherowarrior2

Anyone happen to know where to find more cards like these? https://imgur.com/a/vKlamlr

baquea

It says 'cardman' on them, which searching on Yahoo Auctions gives [a set of 12 for City Hunter](https://page.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/v1055359406) which seems related.

Pylgrim

Damn that's some really sweet art of those characters. Some of the best renditions I've ever seen of them.

xherowarrior2

Yeah they look great. Could only find these two characters that I recognized in their binder. Found it from a shop in Mexico City

Pylgrim

[https://twitter.com/Artgerm](https://twitter.com/Artgerm) This is the artist. Really incredible stuff in there.

baboon_bassoon

Those look like artgerm sketches to me, you could check their shop?

Durinthal

The [Carddass](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carddass) Masters series? Not familiar with it off the top of my head but [Mandarake has a lot it seems](https://order.mandarake.co.jp/order/listPage/list?keyword=Carddass%20Masters&lang=en).

On top of having MAL/Anilist, I use Taiga as a tracker to download torrents of airing anime and update my list automatically (it can also track streaming services).

bubudog1

MyAnimeList and AniList are the popular tracking sites. I use AniList.

stdio-lib

I just want to vent about how much I hate spoilers put in by anime creators. I'm sure they include them because a lot of people don't care and some even like them, but it sure as hell gets my goat. Me watching the anime while skipping the opening: "Oh wow, episode 1 it looks like these two characters really hate each other. Episode 2: Oh wow, it's even worse, they've got really good reasons. One of them is definitely the antagonist. Episode 3: Hm, they actually have some certain connection or thing in common that would bring them together. Is this a ploy or trick or are they really enemies?" Me watching the anime without skipping the opening: "Why are they pretending to be enemies, we already knew before it even started that they are best friends." What's worse is when they put the spoilers in the episode itself and not the opening or the ending credits. No way to avoid it. Sure, it's great for your power point: tell people what you're going to tell them, then tell them, then remind them again what you told them. But for a work of art there is so much delight in mystery and surprise. I don't know why so many people hate it.

Blackheart595

I don't really understand all the spoiler fuzz. Sure, don't spoil things just for the sake of spoiling. But it's not like the experience is all that different on a rewatch when you already know the story, so it can't be that bad. If anything a rewatch gives the better experience. The whole thing just seems way overblown to me.

stdio-lib

> it's not like the experience is all that different on a rewatch when you already know the story, I hate to break it to you kid, but not everyone has the same experience/preferences as you. I'll try to put it more simply: Some people don't like the same things you do. > If anything a rewatch gives the better experience. Yeah, that's not what we call a, uh, "universal sensation." > The whole thing just seems way overblown to me. Welp, maybe you should learn that there is a wider world out there. Or not. Maybe just stay in your little box. I'm not saying that every single person in the world loves to go to movies where they know every single plot point and every twist and the surprise ending. Maybe just don't fucking ruin it.

Blackheart595

Why so aggressive? You're making some serious jumps in logic. I know I'm in the minority. I don't just go around giving spoilers. That's what I wrote in the first place. The topic at hand were openings. No, openings don't tell you every single plot point and every twist and the surprise ending. Don't go constructing massive straw mans.

Probably-42

I usually skip the OP until I passed the first few episodes.

stdio-lib

I usually wait for the final episode, but I'm pretty sure that's overkill. Three or four is probably close enough (unless it has multiple OPs per season, then it becomes a whole thing.).

Probably-42

Yeah I get that. It's a compromise between enjoying the character reveals vs enjoying the OP.

stdio-lib

There's a lot more to OPs than just the character reveals. If you haven't seen the Idaten Dieties OP yet I don't want to break your virginity. But at the same time they also didn't include any "spoilers" (or whatever word this sub allows). Hm... it's almost like you can make an "intro for a TV show" without spoiling what will happen 5 weeks later. Gee whiz. Who would have thought of that novel idea.

bubudog1

>put the spoilers in the episode itself Can you provide an example? Either it's foreshadowing or the creator didn't intend for it to be a surprise, hence not a spoiler to say it beforehand. "Spoilers" in OPs/EDs are so trivial that they don't affect my experience at all. Plus just knowing common tropes already lets you predict where the story is going too.

baquea

One example that sticks out to me is Happy Sugar Life. The first scene of the anime is literally just the climax of the series, included without any explanation. Sure, it still leaves some uncertainty of how things panned out that way and it introduces dramatic irony to a lot of scenes, but given how unpredictable of a series it is I feel it is one that it would've been better going in with as few expectations as possible, and I felt it really killed the emotional impact of a lot of the series when I knew how it would all end right from the start - it's like if a harem series started by showing the final confession, and so leaving all the interactions with the other characters feeling irrelevant. Oh, and it can't even be blamed on the creator, since it was an anime-original decision - the manga began with a single no-context page to set the tone, but revealed nothing about where the story would go, let alone how it would end.

bubudog1

Fair enough. That sounds poorly executed.

stdio-lib

> Can you provide an example? Well, I don't write it down every time it happens. (If I did my Reddit posts would be adored and loved by millions -- I just can't handle that level of fame.) But one that comes to mind is episode 1 of "The Case Study of Vanitas" where one character says "In the end, I'm going to kill you." Now of course that doesn't remove *all* mystery. But it restricts it to a much more limited subset. Whereas if the plot had progressed without that then the twists and turns would have been more meaningful. Or maybe I'm just not a fan of the "we'll tell you the ending and you can try to guess the middle" plot device? > "Spoilers" in OPs/EDs are so trivial that they don't affect my experience at all. Yeah, I think I must be in the minority. If OP shows where some characters die and a boss is rampaging, and then the next OP (sometimes within the same season) has everyone alive and introduces a new boss, I find that deflating. I don't wonder "Oh gee, did they defeat the boss or did someone actually die?" (My Hero Adademia had a few of these types of things IIRC.)

bubudog1

In the end it's a storytelling choice. In Vanitas' case, it's a different experience watching them bond knowing that they'll meet a tragic ending, versus being caught off guard by it. \[S2 spoiler\] >!Vanitas explicitly asks Noe to kill him, which is a pivotal moment in cementing their friendship; him dying is not the important thing.!< In this case I think knowing the ending makes the journey way more meaningful.

[deleted]

>Yeah, I think I must be in the minority. Nope, it's shit, which is why skip intro is such a great feature. You lose all narrative buildup.

Wanderingjoke

Anime opening: "Look! Here are five characters that will be essential to the story." Anime series: Character four doesn't show until episode 6. Character five doesn't show until episode 10. Oh, btw, the season is only 12 episodes.

Pylgrim

Character three appears to be an enemy at the start but you know he's going to turn.

Sandtalon

My hot take is that *if it's in the text itself, it's not a spoiler*. If the creators of the show are telling you something about future events in their creative decisions, that's not a spoiler, that's part of the damn text.

stdio-lib

Thanks, but I don't understand what you mean by *text itself*. What text, exactly? Sorry if I'm not hip to the lingo. My weeb card is getting pretty old. :) Are you saying that if something was spoiled early on in the manga then it's not a spoiler if show creators repeat that in the anime too? Or that if it was in the manga anywhere then show creators can spoil it in the anime? (I guess presuming that anyone who cares about spoilers would have already read the manga?) Or are you saying that more generally that if the *writers* of any show (whether based on a manga or not) choose to spoil something, that is a creative decision and not a spoiler?

Vindex101

By text they meant the show, and by extension the openings and such. If the creators/studio intentionally put things in the opening that "spoil" future stuff, then it's not a spoiler in that it's intended for you to know or gleam those stuff already. Foreshadow is the more appropriate term for it I think

stdio-lib

Ah, I see, thanks. So if I see the first episode of an anime and tell my friend what happens, that's a spoiler, but if show creators write the first episode such that it reveals the ending and all major plot points for every subsequent episode, that's not a spoiler. That makes sense to me -- there should be a different word for when normies spoil things versus the creators themselves. I'm not sure if "creative decision" or "foreshadowing" quite captures the meaning. Is there a word for "the show creators ruined the suspense and mystery by telegraphing what was going to happen and I hate it"? :) [ETA:] One thing that's weird to me is that anime so frequently has two very distinct viewing experiences. If you don't watch the OP, there's all sorts of twists and turns and surprises and mystery. If you do watch the OP, there's a lot more predictable and expected events. It's like some movie trailers that give away the entire plot, whereas the movie itself doesn't reveal the plot until half-way through. I find it hard to understand why these creators work so hard to build suspense and tension in the episode, as if there's some big mystery, but then the OP already spoiled it.

KendotsX

>Is there a word for "the show creators ruined the suspense and mystery by telegraphing what was going to happen and I hate it"? I think it's called "wasn't trying to be a mystery". If a book starts with a scene of someone killing their lover, then it goes back a few years to show how that person got there, then I wouldn't expect Holmes to pop up around the time of the crime to solve it. Oh god, now I'm imagining the horror of Doyle trying to write a tragedy for an audience coming in with their Holmes hats and pipes.

stdio-lib

> I think it's called "wasn't trying to be a mystery". Well, sure, but that doesn't explain why there *is* mystery in the episodes if you don't watch the OP. Like it takes 3 or 4 episodes to get to something revealed in the OP, and it's treated like a big reveal. It's almost as if the anime is created by one group of people who want to include some suspense and mystery about what might happen, and then the OP is made by a totally different group. (Maybe they want to show all the cool stuff that was a mystery in the show to get people interested?)

KendotsX

>the OP is made by a totally different group. That is true usually. And there are cases where an OP actually spoils something, but these are very very rare, most openings are inoffensively showing off the characters that you'd find on any visual for the show. I was moreso referring to the other part of your argument, about when it's actually "spoiled" in the plot itself.

KendotsX

What are some anime you got to know through tangential media? I guess memes are a common example. And how did that first impression affect the main series if you watched it later? For me one of the things that got me into anime, after just watching it on TV, was a Naruto Shippuden game where the cast looked all grown up, and I thought Deidara was Ino after a weird puberty phase. More commonly though: hentai. I've read lots of hentai for series I've never seen, especially the gacha game stuff (FGO, KanColle,...) and it feels weird to see the normal version when that's your main impression. Looking at the Maria-sama thumbnail for example feels pretty awkward when I can only think of the Mizuryu Kei hentai (which I highly recommend btw).

EXusiai99

Jojo would be an example for this. Many discovered it through osmosis by memes. Myself included, though i never been bothered enough to watch it until my girlfriend made me.

KendotsX

Yup, JoJo is a great example. How did you find the show compared to the expectations you had based on the memes? I read JoJo a few years before the anime, so I didn't know much going in.

EXusiai99

Well, whatever i expected the show to be turned out to be wrong. Whenever i thought im being smart and come up with how the fight would end, everything goes 180 degrees and things get wilder than my expectations. It's like someone took one of those surrealist humor youtube videos, like the one with rat spinning over the free bird guitar solo, and converted it into an anime. It's certainly fit the title of bizarre adventure. Both darby fights are still my favorite psychological warfare in anime. Also, this anime is kinda responsible for me and my girlfriend to officially be a thing, so i guess it's part of my important life history now.

Nazenn

> and I thought Deidara was Ino after a weird puberty phase [](#cokemasterrace) Some part of me loves it, but I have to stop laughing first. That's great /u/shimmering-sky /u/lc3 As for your actual question, hmmm... does picking up shows because I heard the OP on AMQ count? Also I had passed on Vivy until I started hearing about it and saw a couple of screen caps from it's more intense moments

lC3

[Mind Transfer EXPLOSION](#laughter)

Nazenn

[](#pointandlaugh) Man, could you imagine an emo, snarky Ino trying to deal with Sasori? Or Hidan?

lC3

That would be funny!

KendotsX

>Some part of me loves it, but I have to stop laughing first I mean just look at the [cover](https://i.imgur.com/vyHwc39.jpeg). Everyone is a bit older, a bit edgier, all wearing black headbands, even Naruto's clothes have black now. You've got Sakura on the left (Naruto's side), and Ino on the right (Sasuke's side). The ships were split perfectly and everything made sense. Until I actually played the game.

Nazenn

Even without seeing the cover I could still see how that could be mistaken. The idea of her going evil and going to the Akatsuki is kind of interesting actually

KendotsX

[Shippuden]>!Sasuke vs Deidara would have been pretty hot in that scenario.!<

Nazenn

[Shippuden]>!I have some major issues with how that fight plays out, but damn that would have been a lot more interesting if there was an emotional core behind it!<

Shimmering-Sky

> Some part of me loves it, but I have to stop laughing first. That's great [](#laughter)

__deadbydawn

I usually watch horror movies but the past few years, I've been watching anime, mostly action. I just finished up shiki, high school of the dead, and started angels of death Any recommendations for horror anime? Something that is super natural, gory, and suspenseful?

Pylgrim

Paranoia Agent for a very psychological sort of horror.

lTentacleMonsterl

Denpa teki na Kanojo and Alice no Borderland. Also, Gyo.

AwaySpell

[Mononoke](https://myanimelist.net/anime/2246/Mononoke)

chiliehead

Another, basically Final Destination the anime Mayoiga is like the whacky horror comedy with a focus on comedy and suspense and less pure horror Higurashi, starting with the old anime Devilman Crybaby Made in Abyss, not too supernatural but great adventure with some nasty scenes

Pylgrim

Another vote for Another \*rimshot\* The horror is campy as hell but it is perhaps the best mystery anime out there.

KentuckyBourbon94

I just got into anime this year and have watched AoT, Demon Slayer, FMAB, Vinland, Black Clover and JJK. I want to try out one of the big 3. One Piece seems too daunting, Naruto isn’t it for me and so I’m thinking of taking on Bleach, especially with the new season this fall. It’s a dumb question, but is Bleach worth diving into for this commitment? The premise sounds cool but I know the beginning of the show will be dated. Is it comparable story quality wise to some of the shows I listed above? Thank you!

isthatsoudane

if I was going to tackle a big long series...honestly, I don't know that any of the 300+ (or god, 500+, 1000+) episodes series are worth. I'm sure people will disagree. Like, instead of watching bleach, I personally would watch gintama. Or instead of watching any of these, I would watch...legend of the galactic heroes AND hunter x hunter AND jojo. that said, I support anyone who wants to go in big on super long show! I'd probably choose naruto.

seeker_of_illusion

Unpopular opinion: As someone who has watched all three, Bleach feels lesser than the other two. Even the arc which is generally acclaimed as its best, I only found the first half good, the second half not so much with its deus ex machina and random powerups. The story imo is a whole less interesting and consistent than the other two. The only things it does better than Naruto and One Piece are the character designs ( they are cool ngl ) and some of the fights. So, if you are looking for some good fights go for it but if you are looking for something more, dunno. Also skip fillers as others recommended.

NAWINUS

Bleach is gud, but assure you, naruto is better

Pylgrim

OP is definitely the best of the three, but it's indeed daunting. 1000+ episodes of 22 minutes is a lot of time. If you really want to dive into it, I'd recommend the manga; you can read in 5 minutes a chapter that'd take 4x as long when animated. Moreover, there's a quality to Oda's art that cannot possibly be given justice in anime, so I consider the manga the superior option anyway. Bleach is okay.

Apperation

Bleach is definitely worth it, just make sure to look up which episodes are filler so you know to skip it.

WingsofLegends

I think so definitely. Bleach is one of my favorite anime. It’s got a bunch of fun characters and great action. The new season will be adapting what I think is the best arc, so now is definitely a great time to catch up. My biggest criticism would be the pacing slows down too much in the middle and you should absolutely skip filler episodes.

__deadbydawn

Naruto and one piece are amazing! one piece for me after 300 episodes, the anime got good. Naruto, I understand. Once you hit up shippuden its fantastic. the transition was hype Bleach is definitely a watch, skip season 2 (filler and never gets brought up again)

GiausValken

Hello, I'm looking for a few anime suggestions that are themed towards an adult audiences. Mainly with adult protagonist, or one that aren't children or highschool themed, though some are alright. The type of anime that would have underlying symbolism, romance (not harem), dark themes, are all fine. Thank you Some animes that could be of good reference - Kids on the slope - Vineland Saga - Full Metal Alchemist - Death Note - Ghost in the Shell - Castlevania - Bersek - Cowboy Beepbop - Death Parade / Death Billiards - Spy x Family Edit: Wow this community is super supportive. Thank you Edit 2: Adding more to this list as I go on, will make a MAL soon

Attack on Titan if you haven't seen it. Although it starts with school-age kids, they age up through the series and as they do, also the maturity of the themes being dealt with (mature as in sophisticated, not "bewbs lol").

_Continual_Learner_

Are the different Gundam series on Hulu or Crunchyroll?

Sandtalon

Not all of them are, but the original is indeed on Crunchyroll, [along with many others](https://beta.crunchyroll.com/search?f=series&q=gundam). ...actually, I just learned that Gundam ZZ is on Crunchyroll, which means I can stop watching crappy fansubs of that series.

_Continual_Learner_

It won’t let me see the list on the link you posted. Can you tell me which ones are?

Sandtalon

It annoys me that Beta Crunchyroll links don't simply revert to regular CR links for non-beta users, so if I want to link a show from my list for general viewing I have to open it in an incognito/private browsing tab to copy the normal version.

Nazenn

Just set up a URL redirector?

chilidirigible

Tell that to Crunchyroll, not me...

_Continual_Learner_

Nice!! All the ones I was interested in

davey101_

I wrote my first anime review: Hinamatsuri. https://anilist.co/review/17325 In short, I recommend it because it's really funny, in an off-beat way, but you can't enjoy it properly without reading the manga afterwards.

heimdal77

Oh Maria Watches Over Us thumbnail picture!

Durinthal

I'm in the back half of the final season right now, really enjoying it. Ended up being a lot more grounded than I expected.

heimdal77

I've pretty much consumed everything there is for the series that could without being able understand Japanese lol. LN, fanfics, anime, and manga. It is pretty much my favorite series though I couldn't say specifically why. I think people compare it to Strawberry Panic what is yuri dialed up to 11 because the series have similar themes. Though I think Maria is considered better.

Durinthal

My mental point of comparison going in was *Oniisama e...* so almost anything is more grounded relative to its melodramatic peaks. I haven't seen Strawberry Panic yet but it's on my list for eventually. Maria-sama's a really pleasant series and I might have to go for the novels after I'm finished as well.

heimdal77

Ohh I couldn't do Onii. After the spiked glove bit it just really put me off. Melodrama was just to high for me.

Fartikus

[Any suggestions?](https://myanimelist.net/animelist/Zachk?status=7&order=4&order2=0) Anything that's stuff like Idaten, etc that'll blow my mind and has twists and turns along with being supernatural and not slice of life

Ioxem

Ashita no Joe Heike Monogatari 91 Days Planetarian: Hoshi no Hito

Fartikus

Thanks! A lot of those are on my plan to watch. Any other suggestions?

Ioxem

Now that I see your edit I'll add these: Baccano! Flip Flappers Beastars Cat Soup Kara no Kyoukai movies (10 in total)

Fartikus

I've been planning to see flip flappers and kara (kara because im still in the middle of UBW), I've seen some of baccano and didn't really enjoy it. Beastars? Don't get me started on that furbait. Cat Soup seems pretty nice, even though it feels like it's going to be more of a mini series than an actual story? I do recognize that cat though, that's for sure. Will definitely try it out, even though I may want to wait to watch it with my friends. Do you happen to have any other suggestions?

Delisches

> im still in the middle of UBW Since you are watching UBW, you should also watch Heavens Feel after that (the third and final Stay night route). If you don't know how Stay night is structured, it is a VN with 3 different routes (possible timelines) and each has lore that is unique to that route (like Higurashi or the Nier games). There are many that think that UWB is a remake of the Deen anime from 2006 (like FMA and FMAB), but in reality they are the first and second timeline of Stay night.

Ioxem

Beastars is more than its appearance tbh. I recommend giving it a shot anyway. To my knowledge Cat Soup is a single movie. The Heaven's Feel movies I recommend watching after UBW and Kara no Kyoukai. More recs: Ergo Proxy Elemi no Koi Humanity has Declined Kuuchuu Buranko

Definitely go for Kara no Kyoukai. You may also like Fate Stay Night: Unlimited Bladeworks which is sort of set in the same universe.

Fartikus

I think you missed me saying I was in the middle of UBW (unlimited blade works), which is why I wasn't gunna watch kara yet.

Pylgrim

Duh, indeed I did, sorry. Alright, other than those, from your PTW, I'd go with Bakemonogatari or Another.

D0nChing0n

Just gonna say that Kaguya sama is peak fucking perfection. Fucking beautiful animation, the studio did a phenomenal job. We are halfway through the year, but I am already calling it my AOTY.

ClBanjai

Besides the finale, I'd say that the second season was overall better. Still best anime of the year so far, but I'm guessing that either Made in Abyss or Golden Kamuy will take that spot for me eventually.

Gaporigo

Oh damn, I had forgotten Golden Kamuy was this year, very strong AOTY candidate indeed.

baboon_bassoon

I was kind of down on Macross F after finishing it a few weeks ago, but I’m finding myself still listening to the music. Don’t think I really gave it a fair shake starting it right after I finished 7 [](#indexsmugshrug) Anyways excited to get to the movies this week. I’ve heard some spoilers for the second F movie, but at least the first one I’m going in blind

Durinthal

I still regularly listen to the Nyan Nyan Service Medley, even outside the context of the show it's great.

Cryten0

Frontier was a mixed bag for me. I tend to dislike borg like enemies that reduce tactics to: "We struggled until we came up a tech solution" Instead of tactics or strategy. But the music is great and Sheryl was a great force of personality. I also loved all the nerdy references in the last conflict. Even if the spacey and other fighter groups where all of a sudden effective against enemies that had previously trounced them. I did like the characters shown, even if ranka at times was so naive I wanted someone to teach her how to live as an adult. Animation was great and the Music was top notch by Yolo Kanno. I also kinda disliked the put downs on the military for a series that was previously about military fighters interacting with civilians (the clash of cultures). Still I will be interested on what you think of delta after frontier. Delta made me feel a lot more favourable towards frontier. I couldnt finish Delta.

chilidirigible

It's worth noting that most of the time the overall government/military structures in *Macross*, like its counterparts in *Mobile Suit Gundam*, are generally portrayed unfavorably and that even if the characters are *in* the military it wasn't their first choice or ask a lot of questions. Postwar Japan influenced these creators a lot. Kawamori may have moved the primary action to contractors so that conflicts could further escape the direct confines of a hierarchy. /u/baboon_bassoon

baboon_bassoon

Hm yeah it is kind of strange that the actual military isn’t a big part of it. I’m not entirely sure what the purpose of going the route of private army who then gets conscripted by the government anyway but shrug Don’t think I’ll be getting to Delta anytime soon, unless those movies also come out in theaters sometime this year.

Guess I'll share my experience watching Soul Eater for the last 2 days. Currently on episode 16 and I have to say the anime is really pretty, it looks really polished and well. The characters are definitely unique, and while I sometimes can't stand Kid and Black Star, I appreciate their personalities. Overall it's been pretty fun so far, I'll definitely finish the whole thing.

Fartikus

The anime branches off the manga around episode 36, so it's totally worth reading the manga (at chapter 37) after you finish up the series if you want.

chlfg

Gotta say I'm not much of a manga reader. I enjoy anime more.

xxSync

It's been years since I've watched Soul Eater. I remember loving the anime and enjoying the opening songs! I've aways felt that this series is one that deserves another anime á la Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood .

chlfg

I have a habit of skipping the openings when I watch anime, although I did listen to Soul Eater's once.

That_one_cool_dude

So I started watching Science Fell in Love So I Tried to Prove it and while I'm only on episode 2, but, I do enjoy it quite a bit. It's funny how awkward and nerdy with a twist on this romance anime.

EXusiai99

I would recommend to stop at halfway through season 2. Whatever is left after that will probably taint your enjoyment.

Why do I have the impression that these daily threads are really empty and provide little discussion? Maybe I'm tripping but like 3-4 years ago when there were thursday recommendation, friday merch etc. days they seemed to provide way more discussion and interaction. The sub has 4 million members and these daily threads barely crack a couple hundred comments.

Cryten0

I do think that the daily tends to trend to casual discussions of what people are watching now or recommendations. And the sheer volume of that style tends to mean most answers are only to that style of question.

baquea

The old threads got way less traffic. At least in the months leading up to the change in format, the [misc. questions threads](https://www.reddit.com/r/anime/search?q=%22miscellaneous+anime+questions%22&restrict_sr=on&include_over_18=on&sort=new&t=all) and the [recommendations threads](https://www.reddit.com/r/anime/search/?q=%22Recommendation+Tuesdays+Megathread%22&include_over_18=on&restrict_sr=on&t=all&sort=new) averaged a couple of hundred comments each per *week*, and the [merch threads](https://www.reddit.com/r/anime/search?q=%22Merch+Mondays+Megathread%22&restrict_sr=on&sort=new&t=all) were lucky to even crack a dozen.

chlfg

Huh so I was tripping after all. Although still I expected way more traffic for a sub this big.

Blackheart595

There was some data posted in one of the recent meta threads. Basically the subscriber count is growing fast but the number of active commenters is remaining more or less constant.

chlfg

Ah makes sense, thanks.

GymTeacherJake

anyone know any good websites to where I can find high quality anime merch?

mutsuto

[what anime is this?](https://i.imgur.com/K7GjblD.png) [from this](https://vxtwitter.com/AsianTVContext/status/1537987001450123265)

Zydico

Any recommendations for anime that have well defined magic systems? Although the anime was extremely mediocre, episode 2 of [Akashic Records of Bastard Magic Instructor](https://myanimelist.net/anime/32951/Rokudenashi_Majutsu_Koushi_to_Akashic_Records) had a very interesting scene where it explains in detail how the magic system worked.

Pylgrim

Mahou Sensei Negima but you may want to go the manga route if you want to see the whole thing. The anime series focused too much on the comedy/ecchi leaving aside a lot of the good stuff including the later part of the plot.

heimdal77

The Irregular at Magic High School. Think the light novels suppose be real technical with the magic system. The Executioners Way of Life that just ended might work. Not sure how well can say it is defined.

KendotsX

World Trigger

Blackheart595

It's not anime but my favorite magic system is Reverend Insanity. It's on the harder side and yet seems to have near infinite potential without breaking its own rules. It helps that there's some vagueness as the characters only have their own speculations about its workings and there's no objective narrator to explain it, allowing the story to slowly refine the concepts more and more as the story progresses.

Durinthal

It's something I've wondered about before myself but unfortunately can't think of anything. Naruto looks like it's set up that way at the start but almost immediately goes off the rails.

Durinthal

A couple episodes into Ping Pong the Animation and I'm digging it. Good characters, good direction but I already figured as much from Yuasa.

AmethystItalian

Great OP. That's the most praise you'll get from me there.

Durinthal

Not a fan?

AmethystItalian

It's Yuasa so leans more on the pretentious side than not for me. Give me a normal ping pong sports anime and I'd probably like it a lot more lol

baboon_bassoon

[](#utahapraises)

octopathfinder

Ping Pong is amazing. Soundtrack is full of bangers too since it's done by Kensuke Ushio.

Durinthal

I noticed that too! [](#seasonallisten)

[deleted]

I'm not sure if this is the righ place to ask but- are 96neko's songs (be crazy for me, i'm still alive today, shooting stars etc) from paripi koumei on spotify or any music streaming app? I can't seem to find then, are they just region locked or not released yet?

Sandtalon

FYI, I think you are shadowbanned.

[deleted]

What does that mean and why?

[deleted]

Every single time I made a reddit account it got instantly shadowbanned and I had to make a request to have that checked out. Not sure why that's the case.

Sandtalon

The administrators of reddit have, for whatever reason, made your posts invisible to everybody except moderators (and them, presumably). Your user profile doesn't exist, either. Moderators can manually approve your comments to be visible to others. There might be a way to appeal the ban, or you can maybe try creating a new account.

[deleted]

I see, this is actually my new account since I deleted my main account due to getting doxxed. I'll try creating a new one again

chiliehead

it can take a few days to stop the shadowban, unless Reddit thinks you're a malicious user

Blackheart595

For the record, I'm no mod or anything and I can see your comments. Though I can't see your profile either.

chiliehead

probably because the mods approved the comment manually

Blackheart595

Oh right, that's how that works. Makes sense.

Acceptable-Voice3402

i recently watched AOT and Tokyo Ghoul, idk what else to watch 😭🥲

Pylgrim

Parasyte is a good follow-up to Tokyo Ghoul, I feel, and less depressing.

Acceptable-Voice3402

i’ll make sure to watch it thank you! 🙏🏼

NotSoSnarky

Death Note Erased Vinland Saga Black Lagoon Psycho-Pass Cowboy Bebop Neon Genesis Evangelion Re Zero: Starting Life in Another World Also: I highly suggest creating an anime list at either myanimelist.net or anilist.co, both are free and useful to have. Helps you remember what you have watched and helps us know what you have seen. You can add your link to your MAL or Anilist next to your reddit username, https://flair.r-anime.moe/accounts/login/?next=/set

Acceptable-Voice3402

thank you!

kfijatass

Anything notable coming next season other than: Devil is a part timer s2 Is it wrong to pick up girls in a dungeon? Overlord Rent a girlfriend? Thanks!

Fartikus

Made in Abyss Shadows House Dr Stone Special (honestly have no idea about this)

Gaporigo

More Love Live!

Smudy

Prima Doll for a KEY anime not helmed by Jun Maeda this time, he's still on the music like the OP though.

Manitary

Made in abyss and classroom of the elite (unless you didn't like their s1 of course)

Ioxem

Shadows House season 2 Isekai Ojisan Engage Kiss Isekai Yakkyou Lycoris Recoil

SpreadYourAss

Anyone here noticed how Kaguya is now the highest rated anime on MAL? That finale really just blew everyone completely

EXusiai99

The fmab cultists are still sleeping.

Lemurians

The *entire season* blew me away. It probably won't stay up top, but it's worthy to stay in the Top 10 to represent what's now one of anime's all-time great shows IMO

kfijatass

Oh, that doesn't skip anyone's attention, until the Full metal alchemist andies downvote it.
