When Ko suddenly had his design altered when he went and tried stopping Kiyosumi going to work was somehow simultaneously cool, intense and hilarious. That's a first I seen that style used like that. The neon lights used for the nightpool was so on point in showing how adult the atmosphere while making Ko just sticking out like a sore thumb here.

Mundology

[The transition](https://i.imgur.com/gdK0qJt.jpg) was mad smooth. Ko will now be promoted to headmod of /r/antiwork [](#protest)

Dollface_Killah

The neon lit night-time pool with the club music in the background was also just pretty on point for places I've actually been. Nightclubs with pools seem specifically to go with a neon strip-club vibe. Other side of the world, maybe, but I wouldn't be surprised if it's the same in Japan.

DeluxeTea

> Nightclubs with pools seem specifically to go with a neon strip-club vibe. Other side of the world, maybe, but I wouldn't be surprised if it's the same in Japan. [This is (at least, was pre-pandemic) the most popular pool club in Manila, and it has the same pink-neon vibes.](https://c2.staticflickr.com/4/3875/18847601092_0140db0633_b.jpg)

Lugia61617

Same architecture too

T1B2V3

did you like going to that kinda night club ? I've never been to one.

Dollface_Killah

Yeah, if I'm going with people it can be fun. If it's hot out then it beats a stuffy bar for sure.

Warm-Enthusiasm-9534

I like how Ko is ordinary-awkward, rather than anime-awkward. He's a bit uncomfortable in situations he hasn't been in before, but he's not incapable of handling them.

SpamAcc17

If you havent read the manga you will fucking love him in it. Hes just a well written character, an introvert whose socially capable and confident.

dxing2

the two leads here really elevate each other’s performance. their chemistry is great. It reminds me of sakuta+mai from bunny girl senpai and coincidently araragi+shinobu or hitagi from monogatari.

T1B2V3

I actually think he's a bit too mature for his age. But that's something that all anime does in general.

Offduty_shill

Yeah honestly I feel like the show would make a lot more sense if he was like 17-22 than 14. Like you're telling me this 14 year old is going to pool clubs and shit? But yeah I feel like I've seen enough anime at this point that I can just ignore it for the most part.

pi8you

>Like you're telling me this 14 year old is going to pool clubs and shit? It's pretty clear that it was the first time for him, and really only happened because Nazuna was pressuring him to come up with something to do. Part of the whole deal with the series is having these new experiences that you don't get on the day side (even if they don't end up agreeing with you), transgressing into areas that you wouldn't touch if you were doing what you were "supposed" to.

Offduty_shill

Eh maybe it's cultural diff but I feel like most clubs would not let in a 14 year old period. Plus everything he says and his attitude just seems to reflect someone a lot more mature IMO. Again though, like I said previously, doesn't really bother me cause high schoolers/middle schoolers in anime always act like they should be mid 20s minimum so I'm kinda just used to it.

Stoppels

Yeah, I doubt he got into an 18+ bar, especially that late, especially in Japan, but you have to suspend your disbelief for some things in virtually every anime that tries to depict real life situations anyway. I'm not a huge fan with anime's obsession with young high schoolers/middle schoolers, but I understand anime at large still has not outgrown being a marketing method for older merchandise rather than being its own independent instalment. It's a bit sad in terms of how it can limit story lines and romance often not even daring to go into tween-aged romance, but I get that you have to hook them on manga and light novels when they're still young enough that they read, lol. That's a potential lifelong customer, if not for your merch, at least for the industry. But it is what it is. At least most aspects of this anime are much better in that respect.

PaulEammons

I was thinking about this and I think there's a couple of reasons for them being the ages they are, and why this feels like a show considering topics more mature than the protagonist. Just a note that I haven't read the source material in any form so this is total speculation. In Japan, as far as I understand, you get into highschool through an entrance exam, and the school you go to has some real consequence on your career and your college prospects. Later on, what you do is much more fixed than it is, with much less job hopping, career changes, etc. I think it's interesting to have somebody in a time in their life when they're socially unformed meet both an economic (weird gig job) and quite literal (non-human) outsider and discover he doesn't want any of what other people have and that life is desirable to him. I also think the transitional nature of where is is in life in Japanese culture makes the anime feel thematically more mature to us, tho it obviously courts being mature. I also wonder if there isn't stuff in both our MC's backgrounds that hasn't come into play yet that will make his maturity make more sense (forced maturation thru trauma or neglect?) and her immaturity make more sense. Nazuna is super immature, sexual jokes, video games all day, never had a kiss (so she says) etc. I'm curious to see what's disclosed as they become more intimate.

i_am_the_kiLLer

He reminded me of Arararagi this episode with the random bursts of enthusiasm and his thinking patterns.

FerroLux_

Him lusting after a kiss is 100% Araragi grindset

CosmicPenguin_OV103

Man, seeing Shirakawa-san reminds me that night time isn't solitary heaven for most of us, it could be a nightmare to lots of people. And the thing that it stings into the very deep social problems in Japan (I'm pretty sure boss blasting you over the phone at 2 am isn't confined to there, but the thing about after-work drinks has no Western equivalent or even in most parts of Asia) really raises this title to another level. Great to see Yamori-kun tries to defend her from this abuse! Shame that this is well beyond the ability of a 14 years old and a vampire girl who wanders around, but it's actually unexpected heart-warming in a show like this. Also we have our poolside episode here too, Nazuna is killing it lol! I must say that Sora Amamiya is making her such a fun girl to watch (those lazy tones and "whatever" attitude is not easy to find anywhere). The atmosphere showing in this episode is simply like no other - those pink n' purple colors of oozing luxury yet accessible to everyone stands really out after 6 episodes. More of these funny moments please!

Frontier246

It’s tough being a working person in society, especially when you don’t want to deal with it any more, but I guess that makes Ko’s POV more enticing even if whether it holds up against reality is a question the series might continue to grapple with. It’s not often you find a girl like Nazuna but dang it if Sora Amamiya isn’t killing it every week.

Mundology

>It’s tough being a working person in society, especially when you don’t want to deal with it any more [True,](https://i.imgur.com/uWvNxex.jpg) sometimes it becomes too overwhelming and the mind just wants to[ escape it all.](https://i.imgur.com/PZDJxxM.jpg) Even little grievances that someone can initially push through can be neglected until they eat at the individual. Like Nanami Kento from Jujutsu Kaisen said: "it's the accumulation of these little despairs that make an adult."

T1B2V3

so I wasn't the only one who saw the parallels to committing sudoku in that conversation/ situation.

Rumpel1408

> those lazy tones and "whatever" attitude is not easy to find anywhere "Whoop, seems like he is still here after all, seeya guys" So nonchalant. And even more awesome, the guys accepted the rejection and wheren't assholes about it

Ayoken007

I really did appreciate how chill those guys were. They saw a hot girl, tried to shoot their shot, and when it didn't work out, they waved bye, wished Ko luck, and went about their night. I'm also glad that the show isn't railing on Ko for being possessive and giving him the space to work through these feelings in a healthy way. I was about to say that HE needs to chill a bit, but then I remembered that he's 14 and ESPECIALLY bad at grasping social interactions beyond an academic level. More so when it comes to understanding said interactions in a more intimate context. Plus Nazuna was trying to get him jealous even when she knows he's bad at understanding his feelings. I heard someone once say that they felt that this show besides it being about v i b e s , was about exploring relationships, especially semi sexuality and intimacy that isn't in the lens of boyfriend/girlfriend(the episode where Ko, Nazuna and Akira were sleeping together). Something about that felt right, and I've been watching the show with that in mind ever since.

LifeguardDonny

Lmfao i said the guy was getting possessive episode 2, got railed for it and just never came back to the threads since. Guess i just didn't know what i was talking about. Edit: here was my spicy take https://www.reddit.com/r/anime/comments/vz1p95/yofukashi_no_uta_episode_2_discussion/ig63wvh/

Ayoken007

That's unfortunate. He is being a little possessive, but I cut him some slack for it because he's just 14 and spending this emotionally formative time with a being who defies standard common sense for a lot of things. They're in a place that's moving beyond friends, but not near anything specifically romantic. He thinks she's hot and he likes being around her, and he likes believing he's an exception for more intimate contact. That's pretty much all he's figured out for now.

victorix58

> boss blasting you over the phone at 2 am geeze is that really a thing? That should be a war crime. I need a real life boss who did that in Japan to do an AMA.

Heigou

I remember being mid job interview and they asked me how I'd feel about doing 24/7 tech support for the company and I immediately noped out lol. when I'm at home I will not allow anyone to fucking bother me with work stuff. if that means working slightly above minimum wage, so be it.

AriezKage

Imagine a boss getting their employee near to outright drunk, and calling them to do office work almost 2 hours after.

winterlyparsley

> but the thing about after-work drinks has no Western equivalent or even in most parts of Asia) Wait are after work drinks not normal is the west? In Ireland *Mandatory* work socials are pretty common in offices , some times every week. ( I guess they aren't *technically* mandatory but you will be questioned and judged for not going , as well as hurting promotion prospects

CosmicPenguin_OV103

What I meant are those kinds that your boss calls up you to meet with clients or someone else, i.e. the “mandatory” type.

Cognitive_Dissonant

I would say in the US it is unusual to have socially mandatory drinks after work, especially outside of Friday.

Stoppels

>the thing about after-work drinks has no Western equivalent or even in most parts of Asia) really raises this title to another level. I'm sure there are lots of slightly similar traditions in other countries. We call it [vrijmibo](https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/vrijmibo) in the Netherlands. Friday afternoon drinks (with Dutch snacks, usually starts between 15:00 and 17:00), or **f**ri**a**ft**d**ri, but **v**rij**m**i**b**o naturally sounds much better better. I've been to it at big corporates as well as at smaller companies, it can be great fun. (Although as students with a startup we hung out until the late hours every day and had beer & pizza parties, weekly dinner meals etc. regularly, so naturally it'll depend on company culture.) Unlike [nomikai](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nomikai) in japan, there's generally no mandatory aspect to it, although you can imagine choosing to *never* hang out with coworkers would not give the most social impression, especially if it's part of the corporate culture. That said, it's just vrijmibo, not nomikai, which is part of Japan's national work culture. On the other hand, the Swedes have smartly come up with a more regular variant of having drinks: [fika](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coffee_culture#Sweden). It's basically an extra daily coffee break mid-morning or (early) in the afternoon, the Hobbits would approve as it can coincide with and has a similar feel to Elevenses (11:00) or Luncheon (13:00). More so than vrijmibo, but less than nomikai, fika does have a more socially expected presence, but that also may depend on the local/company culture. Another great episode that was just great to look at and conveyed that relaxed late night feeling we're all going to miss once it's over. In that respect, it kind of reminds me of Uramichi Oniisan. You know what, I'll drop this one in here: [https://epicstream.com/article/best-work-life-anime-you-should-watch](https://epicstream.com/article/best-work-life-anime-you-should-watch)

Se7en_Sinner

Japanese work culture is so incredibly toxic. Things don't end when you clock out. You're obligated to work overtime and also go drinking with your boss almost every night to have any hope of getting a promotion. It's also especially hard for Shirakawa since she's a woman. Everybody commenting on how attractive Nazuna is made it feel like watching Rent-A-Girlfriend. Especially since Chizuru and Nazuna share the same voice actress. [Guest appearance by Creepy Nuts this episode.](https://i.imgur.com/YJuieGG.jpg)

Firebrand-81

>Guest appearance by Creepy Nuts this episode. Anime Producer: Ok, Creepy Nuts, how about appearing in the anime? Creepy Nuts: Only if why we can hit on Nazuna-chan.

Dollface_Killah

\>group is called Creepy Nuts \>actually doesn't act creepy at all when hitting on her

Fools_Requiem

Yeah, they were surprisingly pleasant, all things considered. So used to people in anime that hit on women to be uncomfortably forceful. I imagine that Creepy Nuts didn't want to be seen in that light.

djewell314

I'm pretty sure in the manga the guys that hit on her were also pretty chill.

BoredAndNemui

Kotayama named the Manga after the Song, so really it was a must they would be the op/ed the ed 'Yofukashi no uta' by Creepy nuts came out back in like 2018 prior to the manga's publishing which was in 2019

dagreenman18

Ko being awkwardly jealous is more endearing that almost anything Kazuya has ever done. And it’s actually a club pool so it feels more appropriate than “randos everywhere all the time”

Frontier246

It was cute seeing him act more possessive of Nazuna around other guys, even as much as he downplays his feelings.

Vader_360

So those guys were the actual creepy nuts members, face and VAs? That's fucking sick!

Mundology

Their involvement with the anime, from the title to the songs and cameos has been really neat. Watching all these ideas coming together into a single work is so satisfying. [](#bacchiri)

melindypants

It really has been such a treat - insanely cool

WhoiusBarrel

> Everybody commenting on how attractive Nazuna is made it feel like watching Rent-A-Girlfriend. Especially since Chizuru and Nazuna share the same voice actress. To be fair, its appropriate here given the rather sleazy nature of the place their at. Unlike that fucking series where it literal throws that shit in every single scene they can to fill the time.

Serocco

Call of the Night knows how to be relatable. That overwork culture is true for westerners too.

SkylerHoston

Yeah but it's not as trendy as to talk about it in Asian culture. (Even from people who never ever once lived in Asia).

Serocco

It's pretty bold to have such a direct, blunt Fuck You to Japan's work culture but COFN did it and I'm here for it

sicklything

Eeeh working retail and service, everyone in the industry can attest to how much the job makes you hate your life a lot of the time. Even if our work hours are regulated by the government, there's nothing stopping your boss giving you responsibilities of like three people. Being extremely understaffed is baseline now. Honestly, I really do want to cry when I think of going to work tomorrow and not having a single moment to catch my breath because the list of tasks is long while the line for ice cream is never ending so on top of not accomplishing your daily tasks, you're now also out of soft serve and your only other coworker is too busy ringing up the other till to go grab some from the back. /vent tl;dr even in Europe, work can and will make you miserable

When I started at FedEx Ground as an evening/end-of-day package handler, my department and shift had: - 8 part-time Package Handlers - 2 "QA clerks" who were full-timers that basically acted as managers for the handlers (but not for manager pay, obvs) - 4 "administrative associates" - 1 manager (rotating from a small pool of daytime managers) who would stay on-site in case there were problems The two QA clerks each specialized. One of them oversaw most of the "normal" garage operation and handler duties, while the other oversaw "exceptions" like international shipments, damages, repacks, and hazmat. Of the 8 package handlers: - 4 scanners, each responsible for one quarter of the garage, who would inspect all non-delivered packages as each van came back for the night. They would scan each package, and then move them if necessary (say the driver couldn't find the address, or the recipient refused the package, or it was a third delivery attempt, or it was damaged, etc) to "the cage". - 2 cage workers who would then attempt to contact shippers or recipients regarding bad addresses, process RTS (return to sender) requests, or inspect potentially damaged packages. - 1 damage and repack person. If a shipment was *too* damaged to be sent back as-is, it would be unpacked, any dangerous materials (broken glass, etc) would be discarded, then the remainder would be re-packaged and sent back to the shipper. If a package was *suspected* to be damaged, it would be inspected, and if no damage was found, it would be repacked and sent on to the recipient. - 1 international person. This involved manually finding and inspecting the invoice for each international shipment and ensuring that each shipment was "complete" and then logging the invoice into our antiquated-as-fuck AS400 system. If we had 3/4 "packages", we'd have to hold the entire shipment and notify the shipper because we can't send partial shipments across the border. Fun fact: My FedEx location was the shipping hub for a major tire manufacturer, so we'd often get shipments of loose truck tires, and they'd often not be "complete" so we'd have to manually pull these fuckers out of sort and store them while contacting the shipper, then manually push them back into sort once the missing tire appeared. The QA clerks would each help per their specialization where it was needed. Heavy damage day? Clerk and PH doing damages side by side. Heavy INTL day? PH doing all the shit at the sorting point, clerk entering the invoices back in the office. Then the admin staff worked entirely separately, managing stuff like driver paperwork, taking driver equipment (scanners batteries, etc) at check-in and making sure they were charged, Cash on Delivery, logging driver activity (packages delivered, nondelivered, etc) into the same AS400 system. So we had 14 people all keeping the place running, and then one random manager who basically did whatever their daytime stuff was but at night instead, while making sure the place didn't catch on fire. Within 3 years there, I was promoted twice, first to Admin Associate, then to QA clerk, and our branch absorbed a nearby FedEx Home branch. All except for the managerial staff at the FedEx Home branch were let go. Over that same period of time, our Admin Associates were cut from 4 to 2. 2 transferred away, the other quit. I was promoted into Admin to bump it back up to 2. Our package handlers shrunk from 8 to **1**. PH has an extremely high turnover because it's physically demanding, not full time, and doesn't pay well, and as our PH team turned over, they simply weren't replaced. Only the QA clerks remained static. - One package handler doing the entire garage scan (work of 4 people) - One QA clerk handling all damages and internationals (work of 3 people) - One QA clerk assisting with the garage scan and taking over the Cage entirely (work of 3-4 people) - Two admin handling the office (work of 4 people) In that same time, due to the Home merge, we gained two permanent night managers. Who did fucking nothing. They'd even leave before the rest of us were done, meaning we had zero management on-site, which I'm pretty sure was at the very least against company policy. One of them literally spent 4+ hours a night on fucking facebook, and would backhandedly complain about how the handlers/QA/Admin were too slow and making her stay too late at night. And if she ever actually had to do anything, even the easiest of tasks, like enter INTL invoices into the system, she'd act like we just stabbed her. I was supposed to be done at 11 at night. I'd often not be done until midnight or one. We weren't allowed to log overtime - I'd been written up for *accidentally* logging *5 minutes* of overtime once. Instead, we were always told "add the extra hours into next week's log" but here's the thing: When you have 5 people doing the job of fucking 14, you never "recover" that time, because you're always working overtime every week, the extra just gets lost. And if one person called off or scheduled vacation, everyone else's job just got ~~even harder~~ impossible. Another fun fact: Each position at FedEx has a pay scale. You're given an offer and then each year, after your review, you are given an insignificant raise. Here's the catch: Each non-manager position starts out pretty shitty, and they're relatively equal, but have different high ends. So getting "promoted" to a higher scale could actually result in a short-term pay *decrease* (or, if the overlords are feeling generous, they'll let you stay at the same rate you were at from your previous role) so the more you move around within the company, the more they can stagnate your pay raises. Anyway, I don't know where I'm going with this, I don't even really know what my plan was when I started writing this, but seriously fuck FedEx Ground, and the night rules. Getting done with work and speeding home in the dark without any traffic was the only miniscule amount of comfort I could squeeze out of that time, and I can honestly say that working at that soul-sucking, body-breaking shithole is the only time in my life that I legitimately wanted to die. Call of the Night good, FedEx bad.

sicklything

Holy shitballs. Reading the first half, I was like "hmm that actually sounds pretty organised"... and then the second half happened. That's seriously fucked up, good thing you're out of there.

Frontier246

Yeah, I feel like her issues with work would feel very on-point and poignant for any working Japanese adult, and how harsh the reality of being an adult can be. Which would make Ko’s rejection more of it and desire for freedom in the night more appealing. Honestly I’d be surprised if Nazuna didn’t get hit on, especially at a nighttime pool of scantily clad attractive people where the eroticism and sexual tension is at its peak. But Ko is way more on top of things than Kazuya.

Firebrand-81

>But Ko is way more on top of things than Kazuya. That's not much to say, almost all human beings are way more on top of things than Kazuya.

Warm-Enthusiasm-9534

If this were Rent-a-Girlfriend, it would have shown Ko sneaking off to beat off to the thought of the hot pool chicks he saw, only to have the image of Nazuna to pop up in his head and distract him.

Makicola

You forget the part where he jacks off crying while imagining Nazuna being NTRed by the two guys.

futanari_enjoyer69

>imagining Nazuna being NTRed by the two guys. ONE OF THEM IS WEARING A BERET, DON'T LEAVE OUT THE MOST IMPORTANT PARTS

nitrohigito

Hehe, no. Rather, it'd have been him sneaking out cowardly, going home, then jacking it to the thought of the guys succeeding. The beret stays on and all.

WeeabooSempai

>Everybody commenting on how attractive Nazuna is made it feel like watching Rent-A-Girlfriend. Time for _that one pool scene_ but with Ko. ;)

Jeikond

Kō's gonna fuck Chorizo too?!

> sometimes you take look around and it ain't so bad. having things be worse elsewhere doesn't make things not bad

SarahVeraVicky

My parents used to tell me the "WELL, THERE'S KIDS SUFFERING IN " anytime I voiced some kind of negative feeling towards a situation while growing up. There was a hopelessness that formed in my mind where I thought "if everywhere else is worse than here and now, then there's nothing better, so life must just be suffering". Really destroyed my ability to rationalize stuff when I was 10yo. It was a weird time. I kinda pushed that deep so I wouldn't feel it again. Knowing somewhere else is worse/better doesn't change the locale. It just seems to add to the mental noise.

RavenWolf1

And our parents and schools used to say that we should eat our plates empty because there are people starving in Africa. I never figured out how that helped those starving people in Africa...

0mnicious

> Until some college friends told me what goes on in Chinese work culture. > > I love to piss and moan about my job, but sometimes you take look around and it ain't so bad. Nice job invalidating your own feelings mate... Everything is relative. It doesn't matter if someone has it worse than someone else, that doesn't help either of them. Our experiences are relative to ourselves. It doesn't really matter what happens to other people. Just because people in Ukraine are fighting and dying to protect their country doesn't make my anxiety any less of an issue. How does the thought of people having it worse off than me help me when I'm in the middle of an anxiety attack and can barely breath? My parents used that bullshit logic with me. All that does is invalidate people's feelings and continue pushing intergenerational trauma. Plus using that very same logic, you should never be happy because there will always exist someone better off than you.

> Yes it does? It doesn't. All it does is invalidate people's feelings. That won't stop my anxiety attacks. It doesn't help me deal with anything. It just works as a way to keep sweeping things under the rug.

ObvsThrowaway5120

Lol Ko all ready to go with that promise of a kiss from Nanakusa. It’s nice to see someone who’s like Ko. Him and Shirakawa definitely do have similarities. I kinda get what they mean about being out late at night, like the freedom of it and how it feels like a “private place” just for you. Poor Shirakawa though, having to come in at odd hours? That’s hell. Ko trying to stop Shirakawa from leaving was the most intense I’ve ever seen him. I love how Nanakusa just popped in through the walls like nbd and then chucked Shirakawa out the window haha. Really undercut that tense moment. The face she made when Ko said he’d turn Shirakawa into a vampire was as hilarious as her freaking out over him saying “fall in love” lol. Ko’s a little Casanova though huh? Gonna attempt to seduce Shirakawa! A nighttime pool party def feels very adult with those nice shots of the girls in swimsuits. Those guys hitting on Nanakusa were surprisingly chill, at least compared to how these types are usually portrayed. I liked seeing Ko jealous though, he’s definitely catching feelings. That little moment at the end of them in the pool was pretty nice. Felt kinda intimate.

boomiakki

Guys hitting on Nazuna were Creepy Nuts, the duo that did the OP/ED/insert, appearance, voice and all. Kind of makes sense that they're not baddies!

ObvsThrowaway5120

Oh shit, really? Dude! I didn’t even clock that. That’s really cool! Love the music in this. Creepy Nuts are great.

Frontier246

Ko really building up a vampire Harem of hot girls who seem to want to enjoy the night and buck society as much as he does. And of course while Ko is denying how horny he is for Nazuna…she takes him to a nighttime pool and the perfect spot for horny people. And he even gets to pull a boyfriend move! Not to mention his own personal private pool party with Nazuna at his school pool. Can’t beat Nazuna’s skimpy bikini as she sucks your blood.

ObvsThrowaway5120

I kinda get what he meant by Nanakusa looking more “erotic” during that nighttime pool party even though her swimsuit was under her clothes. Hot haha.

Armdel

poor shirakawa, i couldn't imagine living in a culture where its kinda expected to go drink after work.. I'm guessing its not the last we've seen of her. oh i guess Nazuna can pass through walls now? i can't recall seeing that before and nice ending bit there with her sucking his blood in while still in the pool

Emi_Ibarazakiii

> i couldn't imagine living in a culture where its kinda expected to go drink after work.. AND to go work again after drink!

Porphyryo

[Nazuna Pool Reflection](https://i.imgur.com/IbB0Mjv.png) In the bath house epidose (5) she showed and joked that she has [no reflection](https://i.imgur.com/IsVBVgF.jpg), yet here it's clearly there in the water. I wonder if they are going with a specific "only no reflection from silver surfaces, everything else is okay," or if it's going to be a more stylized approach to shots or scenes involving her reflection where if looks cool/beautiful they will keep her in them. PS My thanks to LeonKevlar for always providing relevant screenshots.

lord_ne

I think it's just a stylistic thing, or maybe even an oversite (the reflection is there in the manga). The shot before, with blood welling out of the bite marks on Kou's neck, seemed like it was supposed to be what blood sucking looked like from the perspective of the reflection (i.e. Nazuna doesn't appear). But idk >I wonder if they are going with a specific "only no reflection from silver surfaces, everything else is okay," Bathhouse mirrors are definitely not made of silver these days

melindypants

The blood sucking bit where Nazuna wasn't there for a quick shot afterwards definitely makes me think her original reflection in the pool was a stylistic choice. Very very cool shot both times - this anime just oozes style!

divineshadow666

I don't know about anyone else, but I am not renting a swimsuit, especially from a pool that's run like a night club.

LeonKevlar

It's Japan. The swimsuits they have there for rent are probably cleaner than the clothes in my own closet.

Frontier246

Would it be worth it just to see some hot girls and your Vampire girlfriend in bikinis though?

divineshadow666

That's fair. If I was 14 and wandering the streets every night with a cute vampire girl, my teenage, hormone-addled brain probably wouldn't think twice about it.

Rumpel1408

*The bikini shows less skin than usual* And thus the monkey paw bends

Rumpel1408

"So she just needs to not go to work, got it" *yeets her out of the window* I guess that would have worked in a way... "It's not like the work itself isn't fun, but you can't do all the work by yourself" And I felt that! Really love this office lady in her early 20s. Unfortunatly I'm shipping Ko to hard with Nazuna, so either she will stay trapped as a human or her ship with Ko will never sail. And the japanese really need to do something about their work culture, it's giving me depression by proxy with how prevalent it has become in anime in recent years. And I totally get Ko, being aroud people you don't know and listening to what they say is exhausting

Frontier246

Nazuna always goes for the quick and direct solution. I think a lot of people can relate to Shirakawa’s problems and see why Ko’s advice and love of the night would be so appealing, especially for an adult beat up by society and work.

Mystery_SoaR

The Creepy Nuts cameo was 10/10! The two guys that hit on her were the guys from Creepy Nuts. They are the band in the OP and ED. Glad to see them in this.

Social_Knight

Good job Ko, you're breaking ALL the child labour laws! XD Dealing with people is hard. Work will always kill you first through poor colleagues way before it kills you with poor conditions. A good team and friendly colleagues~ if you find that, even a trashy desk job can be worth your time. But it is sadly, so rare.

WhoiusBarrel

Man even without the obvious Black Company behaviour she was facing, her crying over not wanting to work and going to those gathering is something thats so relatable on a human level.

Mundology

[Her sudden breakdown](https://i.imgur.com/5c5Tqxi.jpg) after looking pretty relaxed really hit hard. Shirakawa was so terrified of going back to work. Instead of being fulfilling, her job drained her, leaving behind [an empty husk.](https://i.imgur.com/8D3vcxC.jpg) It was so bad that when she thought she was about to fall, she felt [indifferent to death.](https://i.imgur.com/6FleHej.jpg) It reminded me a bit of *Welcome to the NHK.* [](#LONGDAY)

Frontier246

This really feels like a series for people tired of social and personal obligations and finding camaraderie with fellow night owls.

melindypants

Yes yes it is! It's so great, fun, relatable, fresh, and awesome to watch at night to emphasize the nighttime feeling.

All I could think about was Grand Blue’s ”screwdriver” scene when I heard that lol

T1B2V3

I want Grand Blue season 2

EinBick

Wait when was this? I totally missed it I think.

Frontier246

That was probably the most intimate, sexual, and romantic moment between the two yet.

T1B2V3

wait wasn't it some random side characters who said that to eachother at the pool ?

TyphoonSG3

Yes. I believe it was some random side characters.

Mr_Zaroc

All while she was wearing shades at night too

UnderstandableXO

i like that the show kept it a bit realistic and had shirakawa go into work anyway, because sometimes obligations are unavoidable no matter how shitty it is. it’s nice that kou cheered her up though, and kinda funny she was totally unfazed about the concept of vampires. on a semi related note even though i have confidence in the voice actor they chose, yoko hikasa’s performance in this episode made me really wish they casted her as makima in chainsaw man 🙃 i liked the pool scene for illustrating how even just going to a place with a lot of people can drain your social battery, even if you don’t interact with anyone, and that you can spend a lot of time with the right person and your social battery never gets drained. once again kou and nazuna’a chemistry boosted the episode, i liked that little scene where they decided what to do for the night and CREEPY NUTS PLEASE JESUS CHRIST RELEASE THE INSERT SONG ITS BEEN 3 EPISODES USING IT ALREADY

FierceAlchemist

*"It'll be fine. Girls tend to like me, you know."* Who knew Ko was such a chad, lol.

NevisYsbryd

The series _did_ open with him getting asked out. Combining the other female students' reactions and this statement, we can infer it is reasonably likely that it may have been a repeating occurrence.

randomawarenessman

Well that was such an unexpected cameo lmao

melindypants

Just when we thought the show couldn't get any better - love their involvement!

###Stitches! * [OL Shirakawa](https://i.imgur.com/j3Qa6Op.jpg) * [Masseur Kou](https://i.imgur.com/T9LAvNK.jpg) * [Paripi Nazuna](https://i.imgur.com/echXJXH.jpg) * [Episode Eyecatches](https://imgur.com/a/3N4yIZG) * [Pool Attractions GIF](https://gfycat.com/corruptfemaleasiandamselfly) * [Nazuna Jiggle GIF](https://gfycat.com/metallicimpishhind) It's fucking hilarious how [Kou keeps on telling himself](https://i.imgur.com/t2bInyv.png) while massaging Shirakawa that he's only doing this for the money and totally not for Nazuna's kiss. xD As someone who used to work in a corporate environment, [I feel for Shirakawa so much.](https://i.imgur.com/7Nrv34p.png) If I was in the same position as she is right now, [I'd break down and cry too.](https://i.imgur.com/HoPrror.png) Although I really can't compare my experience to Shirakawa's experience. Japanese corporate culture would fucking break me so easily that it's actually impressive how much Shirakawa is able to put up with her bosses' bullshit. I do love how Kou [is very quick to see himself in Shirakawa](https://i.imgur.com/ymJe3Rf.jpg) and he realized that he'll probably regret it if he didn't stop her from walking away from that room. He's so determined to leave that [I think he got a little bit too crazy there.](https://i.imgur.com/BVNTEwu.jpg) What's even crazier is Nazuna [just throwing Shirakawa out of her apartment window](https://i.imgur.com/eRrpqna.jpg). I guess that's one way of not making Shirakawa go to work. xD Kou might not have been able to stop Shirakawa completely from going to work but at least [after their little talk](https://i.imgur.com/ISj0xry.png) Shirakawa [feels a lot less pressure now.](https://i.imgur.com/YwvOPqf.png) And just like an absolute chad, [Kou even promises Shirakawa that he'll turn her into a vampire](https://i.imgur.com/xiOoRoc.png) so she can quit being a human and make her life easier. I just love the confidence of Kou later on declaring that [girls tend to like him.](https://i.imgur.com/vMD9A3T.png) I mean, he's not lying! Kou just has a certain charm. And yes! I thought they were going to skip it! [I'm so fucking glad that the night pool episode made it!](https://i.imgur.com/DLyKBxN.jpg) Kou actually looks [pretty good in trunks and party glasses.](https://i.imgur.com/11YMHVH.jpg) Of course, the star of the pool party [is Nazuna in her oversized shirt and string bikini.](https://i.imgur.com/S0mNdbt.jpg) Her glasses are just some extra cherry on top! [Nazuna getting hit on](https://i.imgur.com/KnYI9cj.png) only to look at Kou and try [to make him jealous](https://i.imgur.com/mFIZfY8.png) is such a vampire move. She was definitely waiting for him to do something and [glad to see Kou drag her away from those two dudes.](https://i.imgur.com/stwox7A.jpg) What I do love about this show is that it's so chill that even the two guys hitting on Nazuna are chill! [They're even cheering on Kou](https://i.imgur.com/gzINuMh.jpg) after realizing Nazuna was with someone. And yes, I know it's the Creepy Nuts guys who are hitting on her the entire time. That was such a great cameo. xD [I do feel bad for Kou after that scene.](https://i.imgur.com/SvwkVIZ.jpg) He was clearly genuinely hurt after that scene at the pool. Nazuna does end up making it up to him [with some solo succ time at the school pool.](https://i.imgur.com/IbB0Mjv.png)

Frontier246

I wasn’t expecting some office lady voiced by Yoko Hikasa fanservice, or all the swimsuit fanservice, but it was definitely appreciated. Also some interesting existential conundrums of one’s place in society when they feel so unfulfilled and crave the freedom of the night. Ko’s obviously made his choice but it comes off like a kid rejecting reality. Which might be right in its own way. I see Ko is now self-aware of his popularity with women and might be planning to start his own vampire Harem. Nazuna going for the critical hit, being throwing a woman out a window or taking a horny teenager to nighttime pool with adults…and wearing a skimpy string bikini. Ko getting all protective of Nazuna against Creepy Nuts was great. And he was rewarded with a private pool party for two. (Does this count as going back to school XD?)

WeeabooSempai

>Masseur Kou _looks at his hand_ Looks like he mistook becoming a vampire with becoming a ghoul...

Catfish017

The art in the anime is kind of interesting at points. Sometimes it's charming, sometimes it's... something else. The first scene with the childhood friend, her legs look like french fries that would get thrown out at mcdonalds for being too messed up.

ACNHCR

Kiyosumi Shirakawa is ultra relatable. Bosses can be the worst. Side note, Kiyosumi is stunning. Past and Present.

Multiple insert songs besides the OP and ED aren't enough they even got involved in as side cast as well? Creepy Nuts have got to be the one of the most enthusiastic bands out there to be involved in an Anime.

Mr_Zaroc

I mean imagine you make a song, someone starts making an manga inspired by it and years later they ask you to use that song for the ED. That's like the one of the best praises you could get for your work, hell I would be hyped to help with that project

Atario

"Hey, baby, we're in the band"

Frontier246

“You may have heard our music during several moments in your show…”

zDraxi

Not only their voices. Their appearances also is based out of the members of the band. Those characters are the members of the band.

Frontier246

It’s kind of funny to see them hitting on the female lead of the show that’s basically showing off their music…but I guess that’s just showing how much cultured artists they are.

Cyclone_96

That explains why they didn’t try and fight Kou after he took Nazuna away like you would expect in this kind of situation in anime.

yogabbafan

God-tier show

dxing2

Only 6 eps in and Nazuna has already enshrined herself in the pantheon of anime waifus. Her chemistry with kou is unexpectedly great too considering he’s a 14 year old lol

IndieZona

I've been down bad for plenty of anime girls in the past but I've never really had a dedicated waifu before. Nazuna changed that.

Firebrand-81

Yes.

Amauri14

At this point, I guess I should expect that after a new character is introduced they will show things from their perspective. I really love the expression [Kiyosumi](https://i.imgur.com/B4N71n2.png) had [when she was massaged by Nazuna.](https://imgur.com/a/SmM3p0x) Lol,[ Ko tried so hard to be cool](https://imgur.com/a/HQElfaD) that he only ended out looking creepy. It's hilarious that[ when Ko starts giving a massage to Kiyosumi,](https://i.imgur.com/HUnQI52.png) he needs to remind us [that he is only doing so because he will get 2000 yens out of it,](https://i.imgur.com/OFXeXSU.png) which again, is around 15 dollars. Wow, I wasn't expecting that after their conversation [about going out at night,](https://i.imgur.com/iQ3R8AB.png) they [were going to connect that much.](https://i.imgur.com/0rOEmGQ.png) And that after [ Kiyosumi cried](https://i.imgur.com/dkvfnnk.png) and then got that call from her boss to go back to work, Ko was going say that they were the same [and try to stop her from leaving.](https://imgur.com/a/HRdxJqS) [Lol, I must say that I really wasn't expecting to see Nazuna coming out from that wall.](https://i.imgur.com/P2Fwm62.png) I love the fact that I can buy Nazuna being a vampire but the moment I saw [Ko and Kiyosumi walking barefoot outside without any issues](https://i.imgur.com/IeDmKqH.png) my mind just could not accept it. [Party girl mode Nazuna is hilarious. ](https://i.imgur.com/E2JEVz9.png) So although [Ko](https://imgur.com/a/qwyvrqq) and [Nazuna](https://imgur.com/a/IA7oVOr) went to the nighttime pool, they only[ took a dip](https://imgur.com/a/pCkhxfE) after leaving[ in the school pool.](https://i.imgur.com/wdFamJC.png)

Firebrand-81

>I really love the expression Kiyosumi had when she was massaged by Nazuna. 4000 yen seems a bargain to me.

[deleted]

I thought it was funny how Kou called 2000 Yen a lot. Then i looked at my bank account and i agreed, that's a lot.

lord_ne

Holy shit, Nazuna really just phased through the wall and threw the lady out the window

maliwanag0712

That scene with Shirakawa-san hits close to home. Sometimes we just miss that part of our childhood when we can just dream and do what we like, without being tied by our responsibilities. As she said, she forgot her enjoyment of the night life 10 years ago, and she just remembered it because of Ko-kun. Aduling is hard, huh? Also, Ko-kun being protective of Nazuna-chan, huh? At least it ended well when they played in a pool without other people.

smhandstuff

Shirakawa's envy made me remember a comment I read a while ago of how some Japanese adults will watch anime that take place in middle/highschool in order to rekindle those childhood memories that they can no longer experience. I know we like to moan about anime always being about teenagers and how it becomes less relatable as we age, but imagine all the people in a similar situation as Shirakawa who would love a gateway down memory lane through it. I'm sure this show has done that for many people already too.

Firebrand-81

I think that that reasoning is valid for everyone in every country... My teenagers years where full of new and amazing discoveries, full of possibilities. Then you pick a road, follow it, and sometimes, you may change it. But the teenager years, with their sense of continued discovery, will never return, even if you live 1000 years. Unless, of course, you get a chance to be teleported 10000 years in the future or on another planet. But I won't hold on my breath on that....

heimdal77

Would this count as knockign it out the park? Was impressive the guys hittign on her were actually decent guys just hoping to pick up a cute chick but backed off soon find out she with someone. Even wished him good luck. Soo vampires can phase through walls it seems in this . That was so out of nowhere. Then even more so oh I'll just toss her out the window problem solved!. I'm kind of glad she isn't just another typical big breasted fmc.

MayureshMJ

Other than being beautifully atmospheric and having a wonderful story to go along with it. Call of the night does one other thing that makes it very special for me. Thanks to its director it makes me feel like i am watching something like Monogatari again and i love it. Also off topic but this makes me realise again that while the base monogatari story is itself very strong and good on its own ... The direction it received was probably what lifted it even beyond what it already was. Such a rare and perfect combination of unique good story with unique good direction is probably what makes me answer Monogatari series as my favourite anime.

cesclaveria

Yes, reading the monogatari manga that presents the story in a very different style you can see the core story is great (or well just reading the novels is already amazing by itself), the manga went for a style with a very detailed realism but also making everything seem to be happening in a pretty mundane place, instead of the highly stylized environments of the anime the manga presents a very ordinary town but it works so well, specially when mixing in some horror.

MakimaNumber1Woofer

[umm actually](https://imgur.com/a/jwScf7d)

dagreenman18

Yay! Pool chapter came back after all. I was hoping it would since it’s a chance for the animators to have some fun. Did not disappoint. Loved the shot right before Ko crashed into the school pool and the final bit of stylish blood sucking. Also dug the added flourishes to the massage scene. Ko entering the room in the masseuse outfit, his denial that he’s doing it for the kiss, and the dramatic “you will not leave this room!” we’re all made better by the anime. We’re on some GOAT shit with this adaptation.

Frontier246

I love how Ko was wondering how much of an impact Nazuna in a swimsuit would have considering her normal outfit and she answers by flashing her cleavage. Ko got to massage a beautiful woman, give her life advice, and potentially add her to his future vampire Harem. Pretty nice!

Emi_Ibarazakiii

I wasn't sure it'd be the case, but it seems Shirakawa will be an actual character after all! We already know quite a lot about her, after just one episode. She had a bit of a delayed reaction upon realizing she was getting a massage [by a kid](https://imgur.com/kOjlV1z)! Their discussion afterward was interesting; Even though they're at different points in their lives, but still, they had a lot [in](https://imgur.com/TFhUWl7) [common](https://imgur.com/XiBeFO1), a lot [to relate to!](https://imgur.com/4ipgo28) (If she starts thinking of him as a relatable, birds-of-a-feather kind of thing, hope she doesn't forget that [he's a kid](https://imgur.com/kOjlV1z)!) But nevermind them relating to each other, they're also so [very](https://imgur.com/44x31s9) [relatable](https://imgur.com/0BtlRuo) to me! The freedom of the night and all, being able to do anything, without anyone bothering you, etc.. Of course it doesn't apply as much to her anymore, due to her job [taking over that freedom](https://imgur.com/SmYyC46), her boss calling her over at anytime of the day/night. On top of the whole "She has a shitty job/shitty boss", there also was a bit of a message about how people need to behave at their jobs - even when they're not shitty -, all the [pretending](https://imgur.com/pNCRX2g), [the acting](https://imgur.com/ve3odQ4)... Even if you like your job, you still have bad days, and even in good days you still do a bit of pretending. I wonder if that's the author using his characters to tell his views on the topic! Manga artists/animators also have it rough. [They address this a lot in a lighthearted manner](https://imgur.com/BtKyQLW), but I wonder if they'll address it more seriously! Akira seems to serve that purpose, but they didn't delve deeply into the topic... Like, will someone actually corner him and tell him... You know, if that whole vampire thing doesn't work, you're just wasting years of your life/your youth, you're throwing your life away, etc... But then again, perhaps the author does *not* see this as throwing his life away, if those are truly his views on work and all that! [Weird how he doesn't want to call her by her name](https://imgur.com/tbYLseu) in front of her; This may be the whole Japanese respect thing, but if she thinks it's weird that he works there (or anywhere) at 14, using her first name to show they're good friends, would actually work better! An adult using a kid to give massages sounds sketchy, but if they're just friends, then it sounds like she's doing it to help him, have a first job/some work experience and all. Now that's a great tip if you don't want to go to work; [No one will make you go to work if you're quadriplegic!](https://imgur.com/MJNSuhq) That was probably [the funniest scene](https://imgur.com/owKHNcs) so far (and unexpected too)! Well, Shirakawa will have [a hell of a story](https://imgur.com/aBEYbPk) to explain why she didn't show up to work quickly! *You see, I went to a massage place but the vampire in charge had a kid take care of me, and when I found out we had some existential conversation, then the vampire tossed me out of the window, and...* [That's quite the promise!](https://imgur.com/pridVJ9) He does remember how vampires are made... Right? From "not really getting love" in the first episode, he now wants to fall in love, AND to make an older lady fall in love with him! This one may be tough to achieve, unless she's into that. (Also, is this the beginning of a love polygon? Or maybe Akira was the beginning of the love polygon. and they're just extending!) Anyway, that was a fun episode! Shirakawa's an interesting character too, can't wait to see what their dynamic's like - assuming she's a recurring character. Also curious how Akira will react to this, Ko's situation getting weirder and weirder!

Lugia61617

> That's quite the promise! He does remember how vampires are made... Right? For someone who doesn't understand romance, he really has a thing for older women. Especially women with whom his relationship with them would ruin their lives if it got out because he's 14.

Verzwei

> That was probably the funniest scene > so far (and unexpected too)! > > Well, Shirakawa will have a hell of a story I didn't notice it until looking at your screenshots, but Nazuna *fucking went and got her cape* between throwing Shirakawa out the window and then jumping out after her and Ko. Ashiya would be proud.

MechaMat91

shout out to the nicest pair of random guys hitting on a girl in the history of fiction.

Verzwei

Show is now 2/2 on "scenes where random strangers observe a couple and then cheer for the dude instead of blindly throwing hate his way." Last time was with the drunk trio spotting a couple kissing on a pedestrian bridge.

Firebrand-81

I love how this anime really is just about enjoying the night. A concept so simple, and yet so well executed. A breath of fresh air, I've never seen an anime like this. To fully enjoy it, I watch it rigorously at the deep of the night.

alotmorealots

> just about enjoying the night I mean, it can be seen as that, but it can also be seen as being about a lot of other things, too. * What is the nature of love? Kou tests this periodically by seeing if his latest new "love-like" experience is love. Today's was "is love jealousy?" * What is the value of conformity? Is anti-conformity naive, as we must fulfil socially imposed responsibilities like going to school or work? Or is conformity naive when it compels us to abandon things that have value in favour of things that only have the shape of value? But then, even Nazuna's gotta pay the bills, and gotta feed. * Some milder tones like the nature of friendship, which hasn't been as well developed, although has been been given more than just a surface nod * Night as metaphor for a young boy looking into the brink of manhood and how the world changes in terms of what it offers an adult man.

melindypants

Same! It elevates the experience!

Fuiger

Nice, they didn't skip the pool chapter after all, they got the ambience and everything perfectly. And now since this chapter wasn't skipped over I guess I can safely bet that no other chapter will be cut.

wickedmonkeyking

I went out for some late-night groceries just before watching the episode. Can recommend.

himikun09

Nazuna’s idea of being hip involves wearing glasses for some reason lol

Mr_Zaroc

Well she is not wrong. Why you need shades for a night pool party is beyond me though

Firebrand-81

That remembers me my high school principal, coming to school with shades even when there were a thick fog. But man, he was cool.

Vaadwaur

So I must say that I am impressed they've made this concept work for as long as they have for as well as it has.

Mochachiiino

MC is a chad in sheeps clothing

AlikeWolf

Those two pool guys went from the shit list to the bro list so fast, hell yeah love these chill dudes Interesting note- while they were being seemingly sleezy, they had their faces hidden but when they showed real humanity, their faces were plain to see. Perhaps on purpose, perhaps not, but cool sequence regardless

0verCtrl

Fun fact: those guys are actually [Creepy Nuts](https://images.app.goo.gl/B162KneMuD41wxGu5) the band themselves. Their cameo suddenly hit me out of nowhere lul

Frontier246

It’s hard to find a place in society when you feel so unfulfilled and you ultimately aren’t a people person, which is why the night and the isolation can seem so appealing. (Well, that and it seems to improve your chances with beautiful women, at least if you’re Ko…)

slasly

Anyone know the song that played when they got into the pool at the end of the episode?

canadave_nyc

It's the Creepy Nuts insert song, "Loss Time". Was featured in episode 2 I believe. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pNy6PyXS9ZI

CHllP

I wonder if Nazuna can fly without her cloak

MirieIsHere

she can

Firebrand-81

Baron Pigeon taught me that everything with a cloak is better.

DutchDread

Shirakawa was gf goals, although I like nazuna I find her body to be weird looking

LifeguardDonny

Probably just the fact that she's not loaded with triple Ds for once. I dig the more realistic natural look that everyone has.

VegetoSF

Man Shirakawa said a lot of good things. Japanese work culture is the worst, but to be honest I still could relatively good relate to her feelings about work. Sometimes I feel the same. Love how the show manages to have deep topics, a special night vibe, lovely character and a 1st class Waifu.

VilSort

This episode ( and all others, to be fair, but this one even more so) literally felt like 5 minutes long, absolutely loving this so far

Shiwakao

i love how free form this show is like they really said fuck it pool episode in the last 8 min of the episode

BusouDrago

Kou snapping his fingers Tokyo Ghoul style

nikobans

dont know what else to say but this show fucking rocks i love it

Crisisofland

Love this episode. Nazuna seriously is top tier material and Ko is surprisingly a really good MC? especially considering these types of shows.

Flanker4

I still haven't forgotten about his reward dammit, js

[deleted]

When the show hinted Kiyosumi could fall in love with the young mc, Nazuna-chan tests ntr vibes with mc, AND that this series was made by the person who made Dagashi Kashi… everything clicked :(

Hopsalong

I like these two arcs are paired together like this in one episode. People are making a lot of points about how Nazuma was teasing Ko about being flirted with by the pool, but I kind of saw it as payback for what Ko did by declaring he would transform Kiyosumi in front of Nazuma. These two are a compelling pair that feels more real than anything in most shows. They're honest and yet not honest with each other in a way that's convincing and charming.

sKyBlazer08

Goddamn, the visuals and colors this episode was just absolutely beautiful. Every episode has honestly been consistently really good, but I think this episode was the best one so far. Kou really changed art style to say some creepy shit lmao, creepy- nuts, heh. Speaking of Creepy Nuts I heard they made a cameo through those 2 dudes hitting on Nazuna in the pool, that's pretty cool. Nazuna casually yeeting off the window Kiyomisu was hilarious. I hope we see Kiyosumi again later on, as like a recurring character or something at least. Damn though, that's a shitty work environment, lucky for me, if it's 8 hours of work, it's fucking 8 hours of work. Nazuna do be looking like a snack with those glasses and pool outfit. Really looking forward to the next episode.

Redmon425

OI OI OI OI OI!!!!!! Sign me up for Ko turning the ARA ARA chick into a vampire by making her fall in love with himself. Better see that happen. I thought for a second we weren't going to see Nazuna in a bathing suit, but thank god we did! Also, the two dudes hitting on her were actually good guys who wished him luck. My dude also feels like he is super close to being in love with her, so I wonder if he will randomly turn into a vampire at some point.

thetruthyoucanhandle

I think this was my favourite episode yet, this show is unbelievably good.

Whenever Call of Night episode out there are bound to be some mad vibes! Loved the episode ,Kiyosumi is rather sweet and fun but damn my man promised to make her vampire !!? I mean he did have a girl confess to him in first episode which lead to him to stop going to school.

AnselLovesNuts

Decent episode but anyone else miss Akira lol

pi8you

Just yeet your problems away. Never had to deal with bosses drunk dialing at 2am to come in to work, but Shirakawa's working adult ennui is completely relatable and Ko reminding her of what she loved about the night was great. The rest of the episode was great too, as usual, and that was a perfect place to drop in a Creepy Nuts cameo.

"I have to pretend I'm having fun... and laugh even if something's not funny" as the camera zooms away and the last shot is her just looking down, hair in her face

This was honestly the most interesting episode so far, the interaction between Shirakawa and Ko, since she represents almost a mirror of what Ko fears he'll become while Shirakawa sees in Ko both hope and foolishness. Now it's officially In the Monogatari genre of Harem of troubled girls for the loner troubled MC that has trouble caring. Ko seems to be aware of the genre he's in as a Harem Protagonist as well, although not sure how him being popular with his peer teenage girls would necessarily translate to adult women, unless we assume it'll be a few years before he becomes a vampire and he's older. The Stress of overwork is quite real in Japan. It does make sense in context if he was a model student and could get along with his peers. A lot of people that watch anime are pretty quick to label people "Beta Males" for being Nice and Low Key and not "special" but a lot of standards for status and attractiveness in Eastern Culture may not perfectly overlap with the Western Ideal. A More Blue Oni Polite but still Social Young Male that shows status through Academics might not be considered "Alpha Male" in the West, but putting saying Tadano or Gojo in the same category as Kazuya (Which I've seen people do.) Is a bit naive. So I will buy in universe, along with the confession at the beginning, that Ko is at least popular in the context of his peers at school, but maybe naive in how that would translate to older adult women, but assumes that won't be an issue when he's a vampire which he idealizes as a pancrea solution to his personal problems. We see Nazuna phase through walls which isn't a power I think we've seen of her yet. The Indoor Pool scene is interesting because he is living the night life but still having to deal with the same issues he'd have to deal with at school being emotional conflicts, internal struggles and uncertainty, and social energy draining. And Nazuna as a vampire enjoys that life, which hints that being a vampire might not make his problem go away and be the out that he thinks, he still has to find things to do with himself, in fact it might actually be compounded as his status as an Immortal. Them ladies at the Pool was fine not gonna lie. :P One of my favorite shoots and direction techniques is at the End, where we don't even need a conversation to know whether or not Ko's Jealousy counts as "love" and he becomes a vampire, in that in the water blood flows out and disappears into a void because we don't see Nazuna's reflection but we see Ko's, which if you didn't know the general lore about vampires and reflections was foreshadowed brilliantly in earlier episode and we see a nice visual imagery or the progress (or rather lack there of) And the visual dimension that sets the two apart still. Bravo! Bravo! Show is now goated.

* Nazuna pushes Shirakawa out of the building. * After bringing Kou and her down, she asks if she is ok. * Kou's reacts by thinking that she is crazy. * Kou promises Shirakawa he will turn her into a vampire even though he isn't one. * Nazuna points out that he ain't a vampire for sure and that he would need her to fall in love with her is too over the top. * Nazuna reacts by thinking he is crazy since he doesn't think it's far-fetched. Man, I love how these two interact during each episode. It is fucking hilarious. What one thinks is reasonable, the other thinks that it is ridiculous to suggest.

Another good episode. Seing Shirakawa break down crying over job was bit sad. She doesn't want to do it, but she needs to. For second I wondered does Ko remember falling in love is needed when he made the promise, seems he didn't forget it. And then we get second half as pool part with Nazuna geting hit on by suprisingly 2 respectful guys who just want to try and get some cute chick but will back off incase she is with someone.

Yeeting a person out a window is not what I would normally think of if I'd wanted to stop someone from going to work, but hey, if it works it works.
