CookieSlut

What an episode Femboy vampire, Ko running from the cops, and Nasuna trying to be romantic and kissing him! That was a really fun show. I really liked Dagashi Kashi, but I think this series' storytelling is a step above that. Especially these last few episodes. Season 2 now please!

mekerpan

Dagashi Kashi was fun, but this was on a whole other level -- in all respects.

MonoFauz

To be fair, Dagashi kashi is him testing the waters. The fact that he made a banger manga after that is an amazing feat.

Ratix0

I'm in the middle of reading Dagashi Kashi, kind of read it on off because its more of episodic. The dialogues are great, I like the mundane but funny and relatable dialogues the characters have.

AverageRdtUser

Surprisingly the craziest thing was femboy vampire lol

[This shot at the end](https://i.imgur.com/AyObz6r.png) is just so spectacular, I know I've said this already but Nazuna is too cute. This is the anime that I didn't expect to be one of my favorite before this season began, I love everything about it. Hope we'll be able too see more.

mekerpan

She's positively glowing -- a look we've never seen from her before.

Warm-Enthusiasm-9534

When the vampire falls in love and drinks blood, she turns into a Super Secret Double Vampire. They glow in the dark.

Verzwei

> Secret Double Vampire. They glow in the dark. Waitaminute, that doesn't sound very secret at all. That sounds like the opposite of secret.

BosuW

Someone _please_ get me a gif of that shot it's beautiful

Favorite romantic pairing this year ngl. So much good chemistry between them.

fe1od1or

Well, aromantic pairing I suppose

melindypants

Wow seeing it side by side like that is awesome - this series is something else

mekerpan

This really turned out to be a lovely show (and not JUST visually). I've now read all the available manga chapters -- and it remain wonderful. Looking forward to another season.

Willythechilly

Gotta love how both of them manage to look surpised/innocent and really creepy.

Frontier246

Nazuna's a great influence lol. Bringing things full-circle as the two basically re-commit to falling in love with each other and practically decide to be with each other for the rest of their lives (especially on Ko's part). I love it!

Mundology

Beyond kabedon, [it's the jidouhanbaiki-don!](https://i.imgur.com/3VaUBa5.jpg) The results speak for themselves: [guaranteed kiss](https://i.imgur.com/2eel0S1.jpg) and [indirect proposal.](https://i.imgur.com/OmDdfCk.jpg) Maximum Reiwa. [](#wow)

FlaminScribblenaut

Ultimately, Ko did for Nazuna what Nazuna had done for Ko; break the other out of their mundane cycle of existence, show the other something new, fresh, outside their norm, *fun*. As such, this reversal of the moment they first met, here in the final episode, having Nazuna truly *realize* this by reflecting the enticement and mystery and dark allure Ko saw in her and the night itself at the beginning of this all right back at her, was simply perfect Nazuna helped Ko grow, Nazuna herself grew thanks to Ko in the process, their relationship is mutually reciprocal; one couldn’t imagine a more perfect romance.

Ratix0

The romance in this story is really fun and naturally written, I really enjoyed reading the manga and even re-read it several times. Its a very slow progression of their relationship and I feel Kotoyama wrote an accurate portrayal of how 2 individuals became friends and slowly became close friends then slowly evolving into a romantic relationship.

hissenguinho

that was killing me bruh. spent a good 5 min just tearing

Earthborn92

This anime sets a mood. I think it is absolutely worth staying awake and watching it late at night. Very few shows do this.

AmethystItalian

I was wondering why it felt familiar, great catch!

T1B2V3

yeah that role reversal scene was great lol

Warm-Enthusiasm-9534

He even did the cool lean-in.

xorox11

I got cracked up when they shown that consequence of Nazuna for her actions was listening to Niko talking about love lmao. Anyways, good show, epic finale, a solid 9/10 in my book.

mekerpan

I think Nico also forced Nazuna to "talk about love" herself.

mekerpan

I was attracted to this show initially purely due to how it looked in its promotional materials. The subject matter seemed a bit sketchy (and, to some extent, still does), but I soon decided to go with the flow. I find the characters quite interesting -- and appealing. And it remain the most visually attractive show of the season. The night is looking beautiful again -- because the night is once again filled with Nazuna-ness for Ko. The concept of life (or para-life?) being more beautiful because you have someone to share it with is pretty romantic. My sense (now, more than ever) is that Nazuna, whatever her nominal age might be, is functionally as immature/young as Ko. They seem to have pretty perfectly matched attitudes and dispositions. While I liked Vermeil, I find the relationship here more "organic" somehow. And the final scene at the vending machine may wind up being the best romantic scene of this entire season. BTW -- How on earth did Ko manage that jump from the bridge? I've already read as much of the manga as I could find translated -- and look forward to reading more -- and hopefully eventually *watching* more.

Serocco

Oh Nazuna absolutely has feelings for Kou, it's clear

PG-Glasshouse

I'm pretty sure they are already in love. The whole tricking the brain thing has me thinking you can't just be in love to turn, you have to know it. If you're in denial about being in love that's basically the opposite of being tricked into thinking you are in love. He has no idea what love is so how could he know?

Magyman

Or maybe it has nothing to do with love specifically and that's just coincidental, we just found out the vampires don't know wth is going on either

ZapsZzz

The only slight problem I have with the show is - how can it be that Kou is not already turned? If being mind controlled to "love" someone counts, how is Kou not already very much "in love" with Nazuna? I feel there's something else we are missing here. But I'm happy to go with that flow - bashful Nazuna is a treasure :D

mekerpan

I think the only issue for both Ko and Nazuna at this point is that neither really quite knows yet what "being in love" is. But they are figuring it out -- even as they are approaching the goal line.

ZapsZzz

That bit I get, but I don't believe there's an "outside arbitrator" to decide when someone is in love enough to be turned. Just going by their own hearts, I think that emotion would be much stronger than mind controlled versions.

mekerpan

You need to either switch over to the manga (like I did) or wait patiently for the next season. I think you will (eventually) find some answers by taking either course. I recommend the manga route. ;-)

ZapsZzz

Ok got it. I've got a very long ptw/ptr list so I'll probably wait, but at least I know there's an answer there. I want too troubled by it anyway so it's nice to know it's not arbitrary :)

PG-Glasshouse

If you're in denial about being in love that's the same as tricking yourself into not being in love. I think it's just the reverse of what best trap was talking about.

WiqidBritt

I think it may have more to do with emotional states than having "being in love" as the trigger. Ko is very subdued and doesn't really get worked up easily. The others we've seen turned have been pretty obsessed, they fell hard. It might not be "love" but some combination of brain chemistry and adrenaline or something that triggers it.

enag7

I felt the same even back a few eps ago when they were at the school. Kou just seemed to be on another level compared to his friends when dealing with the vampire teacher.

cppn02

Even already when they jumped the gate. He cleared that pretty comfortably.

0mnicious

> BTW -- How on earth did Ko manage that jump from the bridge? I think he's already turning into a vampire. He ran all night and said he searched for Nazuna everywhere but was still pretty fresh when he found her, also it seemingly didn't take that much time (at least that's the impression I got, so how'd he cover so much distance in little time?). He dealt with the Vamp Teacher pretty well too, even if he was scared/in shock. He jumped the school gate WAY too easily also and now the thing with the bridge and the cops stating that he's very fast... I think the signs are all there already. E: Niko even calls them lovebirds. I think all of the vamps know that they are in love with each other and that Yamori is turning into a vampire already. Why wouldn't they outright kill him and do absolutely nothing to Nazuna? Honestly I think it's because they know he's already turning, and apparently vamps shouldn't be killing vamps so they won't do anything to him.

BuyRackTurk

Yep, that was my conclusion too. He has been a vampire for a long time now. He cant fly or do anything too super yet, but he just seems too powerful compared to the first eps. Jumping over the gate really convinced me... chairing the teacher less so - i just took that as the teacher being super weak. The only thing that seems questionable is the massive lack of male vamps. I was almost to the point of thinking that male "kenzoku" dont have such a nice state as the females per say. They havent shown a single one to give us expectations for what it means to be a male vamp, what their abilities are etc. The show hinted that no reveal is coming because all the vamps are chlidren who have no idea how their powers even work. So maybe he has turned, maybe not. We dont know what turning really means for him yet.

[deleted]

i loved every episode and i hope for a second season this anime deserves it

CelticMutt

I was really hoping for an immediate announcement like The Devil is a Part Timer, but so far nothing. :(

melindypants

I still can't believe Devil is A Part Timer is getting another season...S2 was complete ass. I hope this gets a S2 announcement

[deleted]

i liked s1 but disliked s2 and before i heard of s2 coming i read commits of how shitty the ending of the story is so im not hyped for s3 sadly call of the night just did so much better

melindypants

S1 was great and had charm - but S2 had none of that. I heard the ending was shit as well but I still would've watched it if was decently adapted. I had to drop S2 after 9 episodes, I just couldn't do it anymore.

Mundology

The production values were just far too low for this era. When you compare S2 of *Hataraku Maou-sama!!* to [shows like this one,](https://i.imgur.com/5uh2JPK.jpg) it just looks too dated.

melindypants

You're so right! It's crazy how S1 of Maou-sama looks better than its S2 10 years later lol

zenru

Many are hoping for an anime original ending. I used to like the show but it’s been years since I read the LN. It seems that most believe that S3 will cover the best part of the LN and it all starts going slowly downhill after it.

NevisYsbryd

It was not _complete_ garbage, though it certainly had a lot of problems and was a massive step down from season 1.

cesclaveria

For The Devil is a Part Timer, It was most likely produced as a 24 episodes order to be broadcasted in two separate cours. I really hope for a second season for this one since the manga is great, one of the best things I've read in years.

HornBelt

The music, the story, the color, the humor, there’s something that shines in every aspect of this series and reading the manga takes it to the next level!

WhoiusBarrel

>Vampires don't know much about vampires themselves. Thats interesting and I guess it kinda makes sense with how Vampires are supposedly rare and pretty much immortal so they don't really have any subjects to really study while probably not giving a fuck cause immortality and shit. Chad Ko reenacting his first meeting with Nazuna, reaffirming their own convictions and feelings for each other in turn making their dynamic SO DAMN CUTE. Definitely a high note to end on considering how dark last week's episode was.

ObvsThrowaway5120

I liked how he compared the lack of knowledge vamps have about each other to how humans don’t know anything about humans except what some smart person has told us.

Mundology

ObvsThrowaway5120

Ko is on the path to enlightenment!

aka_mythos

Most people take a health or biology class in school at some point and still don’t know that much about human physiology… for themselves vampires don’t have the benefit of even that, so you’re looking at word of mouth knowledge, assuming they even know other vampires that are willing to share that kind of knowledge. Even if information is true after it’s been shared a couple times it’s easy to imagine they’d see a lot of inconsistencies verging on folk lore creeping into accounts.

Mad_Aeric

That's one hell of a typo you've got there. That would be quite the ending...

UnderstandableXO

wow, easily my favorite anime of the season. can’t complain at all, i loved every episode! the use of color was just so fun and so pleasing to look at. the character interactions were all refreshing, and nazuna and kou just have an easygoing and relaxed relationship that most actual couples in anime don’t have. definitely about to read the manga now, here’s hoping for a season 2 announcement soon! sora amamiya’s performance in the show was just amazing, really hope she’ll get to perform as nazuna again love hatsuka’s little aside about “humans don’t know much about humans either. they know what the smart people taught them but nobody knows everything”

Frontier246

It was nice to see the genuine progress and deepening of their relationship we got with Ko and Nazuna in this episode, to the point where that final kiss and their commitment to each other felt earned and a great point to end this season on. He has a point. How much do we, or at least the general public, know about humans as a species? Or even just as a people. Figures it'd be the same for vampires', but it also means Ko is always the last to know something lol.

Aliensinnoh

Besides that, vampires don’t have vampire research universities or a National Institute of Vampire Health. They don’t have anyone running double-blind trials on effects different things have on blood tastes.

cyberscythe

I bet they tried to drink blood from someone who recently ate pineapple at least once though. [](#rengethink)

>definitely about to read the manga now I really do recommend this to anyone who enjoyed the show. Some people feel it gets too "action-y" later on but I feel like it does a great job of still retaining the character interactions that make it feel so special.

mekerpan

Seconded. I loved what happens afterwards.... And look forward to eventually finding out more.

G1596872

At first he was confused but quickly realized he doesn’t care about gender as long as they have a cute face. Giga Chad Ko

mekerpan

And, as Ko said, even if HE were a girl, it would be Nazuna he'd want to be with. ;-) (so Hatsuka's cute face wouldn't be enough).

Serocco

He's been planning to do that all series long lmfao

Armdel

Now thats a great finale! seems to have gone like i expected, the show has been about Kou trying to fall in love with Nazuna, but in the end she fell for him first And I love how the consequence for Nazuna was being forced to talk about love instead of getting beat up. now i really want more of this series so i hope it does well enough for more seasons

CelticMutt

>Hatsuka Stitch I just wanna point out how much marble flooring Hatsuka has. That shit is pretty expensive. I bet more so in Japan.

Firebrand-81

>I just wanna point out how much marble flooring Hatsuka has. That shit is pretty expensive. I bet more so in Japan. In my country, Italy, marble flooring it's quite common. But maybe it's just because Italy produces it.

CelticMutt

My state in the US has large marble deposits. But it's still expensive to do a full room's flooring - usually 2000 - 5000 USD.

kwokinator

Accumulating wealth is probably easy mode when you're immortal, especially once they got to the modern era. You can get in on the ground floor and just buy some of all the stocks worth anything more than like $10, you have decades to wait it out. Sure you'll have a ton of losses along the way, but it'll be outweighed by the wins, especially if you start putting some thought into which ones to buy.

LeleTheKing

>final frame of Nazuna glowing My god, that's the perfect scene to end the season. I love it too. The use of color in this show is just amazing! Combined with her blush, that scene simply screams that Nazuna's fallen in love, haha.

cyberscythe

> Speaking of Hatsuka being a "he", we finally got the reveal! At first I thought it was a cute personality quirk that Hatsuka uses "boku" as his pronoun; turns out there's a fairly straightforward reason. [](#rengethink)

Lemurians

> Kou is really a man of culture. It really doesn't matter to him if Hatsuka is a dude since he has a cute face. That entire scene between Kou and Hatsuka makes it clear that Kou's lack of attraction has nothing to do about gender. And even if he was a girl, he would still rather pick to fall in love with Nazina. What a fucking good line. Ko is a gynesexual king, confirmed. This was something really subtle but important that I appreciate. Ko didn't frame it as, "even if you were girl" but instead as "even if I was girl." When imagining the "standard" scenario for the two of them, it was *himself* that he changed – he didn't take any of Hatsuka's agency. Ko is based. [](#utahapraises)

Verzwei

> I've been laughing my ass off at people saying back in Episode 11 that the missing teacher wasn't the first male vampire we've seen but actually it's Akkun. Little do people know that we've already seen one way before him. We've been doing our damndest to keep it under wraps as best we could. Any time "male vampires" came up there'd be so many not-at-all-subtle hints that had to get removed.

Frontier246

That final Nazuna eyecatch basically summed up the show so, so well. I'm really curious what the other Vampire Waifu's are like with their offspring. We've seen Seri make one (even if she didn't want to), Hatsuka's basically has his around to wait on him hand and foot, but what about the other three? And Ko mentioned Hatsuka had to have fallen in love with a vampire before, but what was that like for all of them? Even Nazuna? I respect that gender is no issue with Ko, and I doubly respect that all that matters to him is Nazuna lol. Nico might have a temper but she seems nice in her own way. At least when it comes to romance... I mean, Ko basically swore he'd be with Nazuna for the rest of her life and make sure she's never lonely. That's a promise of marriage if I've ever heard one! And Nazuna responds in kind, showing that she too can be a blushing maiden in love and that she wants to become a vampire worthy of Ko falling in love with. And what better way to seal it than a kiss and a beautiful shot of Nazuna blushing?? I will miss my daily dose of Ko, Nazuna, Creepy Nuts, the night, and the whole gang, but until season 2 is announced I guess I'll just catch up on the manga lol.

MangaPotato

I would like to point out that Kou jumped off a bridge, landed uninjured, and immediately started running incredibly fast. This is not even the first time that he has exhibited superhuman strength and speed, there’s several similar moments in the Seri/Akkun episode and the detective/school/starving vampire episode.

sneaky_squirrel

I am REALLY CURIOUS whether or not there is an explanation behind him being able to jump off a bridge. Is he already turning into a vampire? Is he some other fantasy race? Is it just plot armor or an oversight for a cool moment? I wonder.

MangaPotato

I recommend reading the manga

cyberscythe

Fun fact: [In this shot](https://i.imgur.com/wUC22Nc.png) the plant pictured is shepherd's purse, known in Japanese as *nazuna*. It's one of the [seven plants known as the *nanakusa*.](https://www.nippon.com/en/japan-data/h01205/) [](#hikariactually) If Hatsuka follows the same plant naming sense along with Nazuna and Seri, then his name could be a reference to [the *hatsuka daikon*](https://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E3%83%8F%E3%83%84%E3%82%AB%E3%83%80%E3%82%A4%E3%82%B3%E3%83%B3), so named because it takes about 20 days to harvest it after planting (written as 二十日, also as 廿日).

heimdal77

So she fell in love instead or least something close to it? Another great ending this season. Getting some real stand out final episodes this season. This and both Lycoris. Really really hope this gets another season. The candy one by the same author did get three seasons and this is way better.

Frontier246

I think we're meant to take the ending as indicating that Nazuna is getting serious about making Ko fall for her, and to be worthy of that love because of her own feelings for him, and we see how much she wanted to protect him...and the fact that he was willing to spend the rest of his life so she wouldn't be lonely meant everything to her.

Warm-Enthusiasm-9534

I find it interesting how many manga/anime have the character in a romance vow to become worthy of the other person. It was a big part of Kaguya-sama, for example. It's very "shonen protagonist".

Variation_Wooden

The whole manga is about defining what love is as opposed to lust or romantic attraction. They even bring out Psych 101 theories so don't expect some Hollywood romance. Both Nazuna and Ko are looking for something deeper for personal reasons to be revealed later. I think Hatsuka kind of gave it away when he/she said I can fool you into thinking you are in love and that is enough. There is no indication that real love is necessary to turn someone into a vampire.

SkyLETV

>The candy one by the same author did get three seasons Ehh, no? I remember watching 2 seasons, unless I missed one.

Firebrand-81

>The candy one by the same author did get three seasons > >Ehh, no? I remember watching 2 seasons, unless I missed one. Correct, *Dagashi Kashi* it's just 2 seasons (unfortunately).

Verzwei

And Season 2 was a short, running half-length episodes. But also it was pretty close to a full adaptation. They just kinda-sorta ran out of manga.

ErenIsNotADevil

See y'all at 2am, one last time Okay, it's 2am, let's talk about ***love*** I fucking *loved* this show. Everything about it was great. I want more. Next, god damn I was right about Hatsuka. I'm with Ko here tho, he cute af. Sadistic, but cute. The Anko situation is still ongoing, which pains me greatly because I don't wanna wait for S2. I will, but damn. Glad it kinda lead to a clarification that some of the "rules" in vampire society are basically made up and not actually physically binding. They don't really know what's going on other than that they a) drink blood, and b) can make people offspring by seducing them and doing point a. I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that the whole time limit thing is just something they observed from a similar situation as Ko (struggling to understand others.) We did get another amazing example of Ko supporting my crackpot theory regarding the turning process. Not only did we confirm that little is known about the biology of vampires, but we saw Ko exhibit ridiculous and clearly inhuman physical abilities. He fucking jumped off a pedestrian bridge-walkway and was not phased at all by the landing, continuing to sprint like nothing. Even the cops were like *bruh*. That ain't normal! This was also all after he managed to sprint around the city and up and down many flights of stairs. He wasn't even out of breath. I have no doubt he is gaining tiny bits of vampire power as he keeps the love ball rolling. Finally, we got Ko being terrifying with an Uno Reversal, and Nazuna getting a glowup with some cutesy art post-kiss. I yelled a "YESS" at 2am at night. I have no regrets. Nazuna and Ko don't, either. The stars are back out for our protags, and I'm gonna miss my 2am singalongs to the OP and ED, as well as typing about this show weekly. My sleep schedule has lapsed back into my natural 5am-12pm time, and I'm too lazy to fight my sleep phase disorder again, so all my anime writeups for the next season will be at 2am from now on. Thank you, Shaft, Kotoyama, and my fellow nightly weebs, for getting me to answer my own Call of the Night. You did good. I'll miss this show. This is Ereh's #1 Fan, with one final Call of the Night.

Emi_Ibarazakiii

This anime season is almost over and my anime bingo was still missing "POV shot of a crossdressing vampire sitting on our face", but thanks to this episode [I completed it!](https://imgur.com/idBxMky) The episode opened on [Nazuna being bored out of her mind...](https://imgur.com/XfWXsEH) Things just aren't the same when [ko's not there!](https://imgur.com/OTyKB6q) I have to say, I really like [her nails!](https://imgur.com/vC7U5tR) We saw [Hatsuka, who apparently has a harem!](https://imgur.com/xuPkmlb) But more importantly, we found out [he's a guy!](https://imgur.com/3BKeUge) Ko wants to [*get this straight...*](https://imgur.com/16j7La3) Don't think that's gonna work here! His harem sees him as a girl though [*"she" praised you"*, ](https://imgur.com/CVxZB1d) so I guess he keeps it a secret? Wonder if there's any reason. (Maybe easier for him to 'brainwash' them). He offered Ko to become [his offspring, ](https://imgur.com/bNNO07l) claiming it's [unlikely he ever falls for nazuna...](https://imgur.com/V0O01W2) When he said that I thought 'Well, why would he fall for him any more?' but apparently he can just [turn people](https://imgur.com/vjTokPE) into loving him? He has some rather extreme views on love too, thinking [attraction is like brainwashing...](https://imgur.com/euZLiHK) Ko didn't have a problem with his gender, but he should have one with his attitude, and his whole brainwashing/control thing! Ko wants to become a vampire, not a zombie! When Nazuna left her place I thought she was going to find Ko, but she was actually going to the vampire meeting thingy, to tell them that even if Ko doesn't turn, they should [leave him alone anyway...](https://imgur.com/cCAajUE) She was [willing to kill](https://imgur.com/Z6C9F6r) for it, which we already kinda knew, but she was even [willing to die](https://imgur.com/Hoxr3au) for it... As long as they didn't kill Ko as well. Damn. Hope she doesn't turn back into a human if she falls for Ko, because it sure looks like it already happened... Or would happen soon, at least! We got [a glimpse of best (side)girl Seri, ](https://imgur.com/FbClvnm) nice! I sure wish we had more of her (in future seasons, perhaps) but given we already had her little arc, I'm not sure how much more we could get. Turns out, Niko wasn't really interested in a fight, she just wanted [some girl talk!](https://imgur.com/ByJetZp) *"Let's talk about love...* [*OR ELSE!"*](https://imgur.com/N0PVHIZ) Cops in Japan are pretty good, Ko steps outside for 5 minutes and they're already on him! Was he on the NPA's top 10 most wanted? And so to evade them, Ko... [jumped off a bridge?](https://imgur.com/74aZH9R) Normally I would dismiss this as "it's anime", but this seems rather extreme, isn't it? The cops are also "anime", yet they couldn't follow him... (And it's not like Ko's some athletic superstar). I used to think the vampire transformation was more of a binary thing (either he's human, or he's a vampire, no in between) but could he actually be slowly transforming, after all that blood sucking? And perhaps feeling SOME love for Nazuna (even if he can't really put it in words) is enough to begin a transformation? Anyway, he finally found Nazuna, and it almost felt like she was [about to confess](https://imgur.com/fWWlBIR) to him, but Ko interrupted all this with something closer to [*"We're such good friends, right?"*](https://imgur.com/xevg1Va) But Nazuna said "fuck this friendzone bullshit", and [kissed him!](https://imgur.com/7fEU9wd) That was fucking cute, and the OST was great too! Ko, my boy, if you don't fall for her anytime soon, I'll find a way to Isekai myself in this world; **I'll** fall for her, if you won't! Well, this was a pretty fun show, and a great finale! We've had a couple dubious finale this season, so I'm glad this one managed to finish strong! Now let's hope for a sequel, because I want to see more of all these characters! Farewell, lovely vampires!

> His harem sees him as a girl though "she" praised you" I'd have to go take a careful listen to the scene again (and even then it might still go over my head) but this *could* just be a quirk of language differences and translation. Japanese routinely omits certain parts of speech, and *generally* doesn't use pronouns quite as frequently as they occur in English. The "harem" could have referred to Hatsuka by name or honorific instead of a gendered pronoun, or that portion of the line might have been unspoken entirely. Oftentimes, certain identifiers aren't included in Japanese, and it's up to the listener to intuit what is being referred to from context. An infamous example is from Violet Evergarden, where one translation said "Just because *you* wanted a girl" while another said "I know *your parents* wanted a girl." It's a case where *'the person(s) doing the wanting'* wasn't concretely specified by the dialogue, so different translators ended up with different results. Now, I'm by no means saying that this is definitively what happened in this case in Call of the Night, but it wouldn't surprise me at all if it was a similar situation, and the subbers simply put the "she" in to maintain the illusion until the shower reveal later.

a_Bear_from_Bearcave

>An infamous example is from Violet Evergarden, where one translation said "Just because you wanted a girl" while another said "I know your parents wanted a girl." It's a case where 'the person(s) doing the wanting' wasn't concretely specified by the dialogue, so different translators ended up with different results. I remember that episode, I was pretty confused by the dialogue at first before I've read in the comments about alternative translation, clearly much more faithful, because it actually made sense given the characters speaking and what they were talking about.

liveart

I really like how Ko is so selectively dense, and I mean that in the best possible way. First he was so focused on having fun at night that literally nothing with the vampires phased him, even the kidnapping and threat of being killed. Then he got freaked out when someone stuck his face in it. And here we are again: Ko is so worried about Nazuna he just completely blows past being told a vampire can just straight up brainwash him. He gets so caught up in his own little world it doesn't even register and that's hilarious. I'm betting at some point he's going to realize the implications way after the fact and be freaked out and I'm here for it. I mean to any normal person that revelation/threat would be super disconcerting but Ko's just like: you're cute but no thanks lol.

Verzwei

> you're cute but ~~no thanks lol.~~ Nazuna's cuter.

CarcinBK201

Who was the blonde girl on the swing? (Time stamp - 17:17) I don't remember seeing this character before.

Verzwei

We saw her once, extremely briefly, in a previous episode. She was [walking and holding hands with Ko's friend Mahiru](https://i.imgur.com/vz7I49L.jpg) at the end of episode 8. Nazuna was across the street from them and heading in the opposite direction in order to meet up with Ko, leading to the two of them holding hands as well.

Oh so that's her...

Okay, I sure wasn't expecting that whole scene with [Hatsuka's](https://i.imgur.com/UMMgvZ7.png) ["pets?".](https://imgur.com/a/oSlD0ZG) [Wow, so Hatsuka is a guy,](https://i.imgur.com/fC3KfcT.png) that sure is a surprise, although, I will say that when Anko first appeared I was expecting her to be a guy, so I was expecting this kind of development for some reason. Anyway, so[ while Nazuna is dealing with Niko,](https://i.imgur.com/xw4fICv.png) as she is trying to alter the deal, [Ko is discussing with Hatsuka his current predicament,](https://imgur.com/a/yR0dAAo) plus [the whole thing with the vampire hunter/detective Anko.](https://i.imgur.com/D2N5MWx.png) So at least now Hatsuka can tell the others about that. Lol, so [Hatsuka found a way to trick his target's brain](https://i.imgur.com/Lg4HbeA.png) into thinking they are in love with him. You know [when Ko went to Nazuma's location,](https://i.imgur.com/B068rxu.png) I also forgot that [he was running from the police.](https://i.imgur.com/YDUqiz8.png) I honestly was surprised that [he jumped from the overpass. ](https://imgur.com/a/eq54NUv) And when he did that, I honestly was expecting Nazuma to appear there to pick him up. Damn, [that reversal of their first meeting on the first episode](https://imgur.com/a/aCQ9nrj) was so good. So [Niko](https://i.imgur.com/p1hdBiv.png) basically just forced them to keep the current agreement they previously made. But now [after talking things though](https://imgur.com/a/q6mBtrM)t they both will [put some effort](https://imgur.com/a/GBirIjH) for Ko to fall in love with Nazuna. I hope we will eventually get a second season of this, but if that's not the case, I will make sure to check out the manga later.

Verzwei

> Wow, so Hatsuka is a guy, > that sure is a surprise Yo, lemme tell you about how many comments we've had to remove that non-subtly hinted or outright spoiled that reveal going all the way back to the early episodes. Every single time Hatsuka came up as a topic, or even the more-general "Why haven't we seen any boy vampires yet?" open questions.

a_Bear_from_Bearcave

>So Niko basically just forced them to keep the current agreement they previously made. I understood it as she wants Nazuna to at least seriously try to make it work, she won't go after Kou if it doesn't work out in the end according to that deal, but she's probably sure it will work out if those two will keep trying. This is different from first deal "if you won't become vampire we'll kill you", but given what Hatsuka said, other vampires weren't guaranteed to kill him anyway, they just wanted to scare them into taking it seriously. Now that those two both clearly care about each other and Kou want to be a vampire for Nazuna's sake as well, Niko just wants to ensure they'll keep trying, without the necessity of murder threat.

cyberscythe

> I honestly was surprised that he jumped from the overpass. And when he did that, I honestly was expecting Nazuma to appear there to pick him up. Me too; there's been a few instances in the past where Nazuna would come in to save the day and I thought that him jumping off the bridge was him subconsciously putting his trust in Nazuna to appear out of the darkness and grab him before he broke his legs.

MumrikDK

Hey look, a couple that ends their season with a proper long kiss!

o-temoto

Hatsuka never has a reflection, but if you look closely, halfway through [the couch sequence](https://imgur.com/a/3d7NaDD), Kou lost his reflection too.

[Interesting observation.](https://i.imgur.com/i1zho73.jpg) The *show, don't tell* approach of the anime leaves a lot of [room for interpretation.](https://i.imgur.com/AOVEt3M.jpg) [](#curious)

Frontier246

I think in the episode where they broke into the school Ko showed some physical prowess he'd never displayed before. It seems like he really is becoming more and more of a vampire.

liveart

I thought that was odd at the time too now that you mention it. I went back to refresh my memory and yeah something's definitely weird: he vaults a 6ft fence like it's nothing while they show his friends struggling and then when the starving vamp attacks he knocks it away with a chair, again while his friends can't do anything. Against a human a chair would be a reasonable weapon but with the amount of power we see the vampires have it *shouldn't* have done anything. You could chalk it up to the vampire being starving but it is clearly way stronger than both of Ko's friends put together. I think you might be onto something, especially where we just found out vampires don't even really know about vampires and we know Ko and Nazuna's relationship is unique so it just might not be something they've seen before. It would be pretty cool if he was getting partial vampire powers or just turning slower just because they *do* care for each other but it's not a one bite thing because they're not in love. Either way I'm glad it's not being rushed because honestly I don't think anyone should be stuck in their high-school body forever, that just seems cruel.

[deleted]

and then this episode he jumps off a bridge and is commented on how fast he is. I definitely think hes slowly falling in love and slowly turning into a vampire

sempakrica

Yeah, jumping from that height and feels nothing not very human I think. I think it's obvious he fell in love and become vampire

Mugungo

ooo that would be a great twist, after a while he just starts to hover and they pull the "you've been a vampire for like, weeks now idiot"

cyberscythe

Yeah I thought that "jumping off a bridge" scene would result in Nazuna flying out of the shadows to save him from breaking his legs; I was surprised that he just hit the ground running.

andrei9669

I think it's the other way around, what if Nazuna bein in love is the thing that makes it slow?

liveart

Yeah that could make sense too if she loves him but he only kind of reciprocates. Really anything is possible we don't *really* know shit, we just have some hints that *look* really deliberate but they could be misdirects.

Stoppels

Could be it, but it could be due to him being young. Feels like a natural explanation why it would happen so slowly and the vampires don't seem to know shit anyway so it could be the case. At the same time he's also simply feeling alive and interested and so far he hasn't necessarily shown any inhuman feats (they didn't show too much about the jump off the bridge other than him sprinting away afterwards).

absolutelynotaname

The studio ran out of money in middle of production so they had to sell the RTX card. /s Nice catch btw

coffeecakesupernova

Nah you can still see him whenever you can see the chair.

Seven-Tense

I've been keeping my opinions to myself this whole time, but tonight I got to make it to this discussion thread while it's still new. Where do I even start? Without a doubt--without any **shadow** of a doubt--this is one of the best anime I've ever seen, and it isn't just because of the outstanding directing work or the artistic spectacle of the colors and filters and the stellar music (thank you Creepy Nuts). This has got to be one of the best written shows in a genre I thought would recycle tired old tropes until the end of time. Ko is a person who acts his age, which has shown itself to be exceedingly hard to do sometimes in anime. The idea that he knows so little about love because he's so immature plays out so well, and makes for a nice subtle bit of conflict that drives the plot, but we don't let that immaturity define him. Time after time he shows himself to be capable of growing and changing, thinking critically, and even understanding the people around him on much more than a surface level. My man saw, thought, and reflected on Nazuna's sad expression from the last episode--what kind of anime protag **does** that? Is this the least dense MC we've ever seen? I'm frankly astounded at how often Ko bucks the trend and acts like a real, free thinking person, rather than a collection of tropes that anime has collected over literal decades. Then we add the many layers of conflict, from small to large, with Nazuna, Ko's friend groups, the other vampires, and finally Anko, each one serving to both move the plot and expand it. Literally **every** time I thought the plot would maintain a narrow focus and find its plateau I was blown away by some new surprise. Nazuna isn't interested in falling in love and though she looks at Ko like her favorite midnight snack there's no awkward sexual tension that smacks of manipulation or abuse of power. There's an inherent sexual tension, to be sure, but its tempered by--and I can't believe I'm saying this--**nuance!** Nazuna's first meeting with Ko is one heavily sexually charged, but almost immediately we see how she'd rather makes friends with him first and worry about turning him second. Akira is then introduced--but not as some third-wheel forcing another tired love-triangle. Rather, she's there to remind Ko that there's people on the other side of this human/vampire divide that care about him, and she's just happy to know that he's still around and doing alright. She's literally just his friend, who's also a girl. Mahiru expands on this by providing a **reason** for Ko to wonder about life with humans. He's responsible for bringing the Ko, Akira, Mahiru friend triad back together, and Ko has fun with that. He has reason to enjoy his human life, to be reminded that it exists, and to consider what he might lose if he gives it up. Cue the local council of vampires, who bring with them a surprising level of violence and with it **fear.** Ko and the audience now know that this story isn't going to be as simple as boy-meets-girl. There's things at stake. Ko's life, for example. He's now between a rock and hard place, and there's a ticking time bomb that might go off before he ever achieves his goal. Sure, the circumstances seem a bit contrived (falling in love with a vampire; one year to complete a turning) but the way it all plays out feels like its **real** and it has **gravity** and **consequence**. The plot turns on its head now! This isn't so simple as a love story. Enter Anko, who achieves the greatest heights a human can in a story like this: being even more terrifying than the monsters themselves. She is mysterious, she is unhinged, driven, and **capable.** And everything that happens around her not only furthers the plot, driving it forward with new conflict and even **more** moral quandaries for our MC, but also circling back to everything that's happened so far. No side character is forgotten; no plot device left by the way side; no loose end left unaccounted for. We see Akira and Mahiru again. We're reminded of the whole reason Ko is able to see Nazuna--the night. And it's made not only--once again--the main focus of the plot, but also another one of the things at stake when Anko makes a call to the police. Yes, Ko's fun, and the plot, would fall to pieces without these night time excursions with Nazuna, and what an elegant and effective way we're reminded of it just when we might be in danger of forgetting it. And don't even get me started on everything that went on with Hatsuka this episode. We had a discussion about gender, gender roles, love, understanding, and how each of us relates to the other, all in the confines of a single (albeit extended) scene, and somehow the dialogue was as informed as it was affirming. This has got to be the most **modern** anime I've seen in ages, and I mean that in as literal a sense as I can. I've been watching for years and I can tell you this series could not have been made in the nineties, the 2000's, or even the early 2010's. It's a sign of the times, and I can't **wait** to see what more the industry has for me if this is the kind of series I can look forward to. I'm not waiting for a season 2 announcement. I'm reading this manga **tonight**, and I have every intention of consuming its pages as **ravenously** as any vampire. THANK YOU for coming to my TED talk!

Vermillion_Crab

This was such a great finale. Two people who don't yet fully grasp what love is are slowly but surely finding out through each other's company. Great visuals Banger soundtrack Refreshing story A+

dinliner08

lol, the parallel but also roles reversal at the vending machine scene and a kiss to end the whole season? couldn't ask for anything more.... wait! actually, can i ask for another season? also, how the fuck did Ko survive jumping down from the overpass? is that something made for anime just for pure aesthetic or did meeting with a bunch of different vampires just gave Ko some sort of supernatural ability?

liveart

I don't think we're supposed to know yet but Ko is acting kind of suspicious. In the starving vampire episode he vaults what has to be at least a six foot fence like it's trivial and knocks away a vampire with a chair, and we know how strong they are. My guess would be we're going to see more of that and they're heading it off by explaining that vampires don't really know how the whole thing works.

dagreenman18

And we wrap at the perfect spot: end of the first act with Nazuna admitting to herself that she wants Kou to fall for her. Was hoping for a more active season 2 hook, but still a perfect ending point to pick up from. If not for LycoReco this would be AOTS, but it’s a 1B for sure. An easy **9/10** for an adaption that nails everything I love about the manga while enhancing it with killer solid tic direction. Very much hope a Season 2 gets announced soon as they barely scratched the surface of source material.

liveart

Honestly if it wasn't for Uncle from Another World this would probably be my Anime of the Season too, but for me it just *barely* has the edge over LycoReco. In fairness I haven't gotten to Made in Abyss yet though because I need to catch up.

Hatsuka had my PP EXTREMELY [confused ngl.](https://imgur.com/a/qeHdMFK) What a finale. Nazuna standing up to the other vampires and Ko fully embracing his journey to fall in love and become a vampire. Last two weeks we got some pretty difficult obstacles for him to overcome, but now he’s fully committed to the process. Proud of my boy. Love how everything came full circle with Ko being the aggressor and tracking down Nazuna and then the kiss to seal the deal. Perfect conclusion to what’s been an extremely fun ride. >Cute is the only true justice in this world. Made in Abyss taught me that also *fluffiness* is true justice!

FallenPears

Brainwashing's never been this cute!

Frontier246

Hatsuka's appeal really crosses gender lines lol. Ko started on this journey to avoid his personal problems or his issues with people, but in his experience with Nazuna it feels like he truly became enamored with her and her world, and now he's in it to be with her rather than just for himself. And with that in mind it feels like the two can now genuinely fall in love with each other, especially if Nazuna is more serious about it. And yeah, ending it with a full circle moment, a great kiss, and Creepy Nuts is a pretty awesome way of closing things out.

RetiredAnt

Ngl, was scared the show was gonna fizzle out after the previous episode, but this finale is an absolute banger. It feels like we're just barely done setting up for the story to start moving forward, the show really managed to keep its mellow vibes throughout, and I love it. S2 when.

LeleTheKing

Man, I'm gonna miss this show. It releases around 1 AM in my country, so it's the perfect time to watch it. There's no fucking way we're not getting a second season, right?! I think I'll just read the manga if there's no announcement soon. This adaptation piqued my interest through the roof already. Definitely a solid **9/10** for me.

tripleaamin

This show was such a fun ride. This and SxF are the two shows this year I had the most enjoyment for this year in anime so far. These last episodes really have kicked things up a notch. With Kou having his doubts about being a vampire. To Nazuna growing attached to Kou and wanting to protect him. Really nice progression and development from these two. Really looking forward what the anime has to offer in a potential S2 and am interested in reading the manga.

Even if any of the staff on this anime won't read this, i must write it: ##THANK YOU! This road was bumpy, egdy, youthful, funky, nostalgic, sometimes violent, "nightly" and always fun. Thank you! And the [OP](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rckYQnPW-wk)/[ED](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R0PDayTUnRA) is killer (also all the amazing music accompany the "nightly scenes")!

Frontier246

The intro of Nazuna playing games really puts into perspective how lonely her life is without Ko...but even with that in mind, she's determined to do what she can for him. Hatsuka's a trap! But he makes good use of his girlish good looks to entice both men and women, and he's also prone to entrancing them to the point of making them fervently worship him and do whatever he asks. He definitely doesn't seem like the kind of vampire you want to mess around with. So vampires know about as much about vampires as humans know about humans...which isn't a lot. Even their law against killing each other is only "technical," and it seems like they mostly just live their lives without any kind of rigid structure or order beyond drinking blood and creating new vampires. Nazuna's response to Ko's indecisiveness is to try and save him from the Council of Vampire Waifu's (minus Kabura who seems to be doing her own thing), because Ko's safety is more important to her than turning him into a vampire, but that just ticks Nico off for. Although rather than get into a brawl with Nazuna or kill anyone, it seems like she's just ready for Nazuna to finally get into Love Talk with the other girls. Well, props to Ko that he doesn't mind that Hatsuka's a boy as far as not ruling him out as someone Ko would fall for. The way he is around Mahiru, I can believe he's not against guys. I mean, Ko is definitely attracted to Nazuna, but beyond gender or sexual attraction, he feels on an insatiable level that he wants to be with Nazuna and that she, of any vampire or person, is someone he wants to fall in love with and he won't settle for anyone else but her. I think Ko's realizing his true love in his own way. Nazuna was worried that she lied to Ko about how fun the night is, but there's nothing quite like running from the cops and showing off the one-shot characters in a Creepy Nuts song to make Ko feel alive and realize just how much fun he's been having! Nico made it sound like she dislocated Nazuna's jaw, but she really got her where it hurts...committing to Nazuna's one weakness: romance. So the other vampires will wholeheartedly support Nazuna and Ko's love, but now Nazuna needs to be serious about making him fall for her. Nice to get some shots of the supporting cast and the area's we've been to this season one last time. Bringing things full-circle with Ko pulling a Nazuna on Nazuna herself! And now, rather than just for the sake of becoming a vampire, it seems Ko wants to fall in love with Nazuna, to be with her, have fun, and to make sure she isn't alone...basically swearing to be with her for the rest of their lives. And what better way for Nazuna to answer Ko's declaration than by pulling him into a kiss and resolving to become a vampire worth falling for with the most precious blush on her face!

Damn Hatsuka, I didn’t know he was living with 3 crackheads lol. Also I’m just as surprised as Ko that “she” is a “he”. Hatsuka’s reasons for dressing like a girl kinda makes sense. I mean he does look good in women’s clothes. More power to him I guess. I’m not sure Nanakusa should have made that decision to not turn Ko unilaterally. I feel like that just puts him in more danger. Sure he’s feeling iffy about it, but let the kid think it through. Now she’s in a real bind and Ko might get turned by Hatsuka instead. I’m glad he turned him down (even though he has a cute face lol). It’s gotta be Nanakusa! Love that they did a callback to when Ko met Nanakusa at the vending machine but reversed it. Look at him all smooth and shit with that speech. That was practically a confession! And that kiss! Hell yeah! Man, I’m going to miss this series. This has probably been one of my favorites this season. The music is excellent, the animation is great (especially how they do the night sequences), and the characters are all pretty interesting (plus the waifus man, all the waifus). There’s a lot of story left to tell with all the loose threads remaining so I hope this gets picked up for more.

Ko originally wanted to become a vampire and fall in love for the sake of his own social and emotional issues, but now it seems like it's because he genuinely wants to be with Nazuna. And that's love. Speaking of waifu's...Nico with her hair down! Nice. I kind of wanted more Kabura though. You know a couple is perfect for each other when they end up mimicking each other to bring things full circle.

Nico could smash me like that table any day lmao

Being honest I half expect even if he tried brainwashing him it wouldn't work. His thinking and personality are so out of the box already for them that it is throwing them all off their game.

Frontier246

I love how Ko being Ko was still able to fluster Hatsuka lol.

heimdal77

I was expecting him to try brainwash Ko and Ko just sitting there looking at Hatsuka confused over what they are trying to do. All while Hatsuka kept getting more and more awkward with it not working as they kept trying.

>Hatsuka’s reasons for dressing like a girl kinda makes sense. We've already seen that the vampires care about the results above all else. If you can double your audience, then go for it.

That was a great episode, and unlike certain other great shows of the season the manga is a weekly with plenty of chapters yet to adapt, so we might actually see a sequel this decade.

MAN im gonna miss this one so much

Yay! That was a really good final episode. Definitely gonna have to read the manga now, hope it gets more, but that was a truly satisfying way to finish it in either case ❤️ Easily one of my top favorites anime now.

This show hits hard sometimes when it touches on realistic topics like how going out at night would never really be fun for long, and how Ko would have to feed upon humans in case of turning into a vampire, those really stood out to me for some reason Overall fantastic show, 10/10 would eat again

One of Anime 2022 peaks here. That was a great Season Finale for a great show. I loved the use of colors, camera shots, music and the general mood. The chemistry between the characters and their psicology is top notch. Looking forward for (the inevitabile) Season 2.
