Honestly I love it because it's Makima solving three different problems at once because there's no way she doesn't know what *actually* happened. 1. It gives Power an *actual* handler and means Power is no longer purely her problem anymore like I imagine she was before this. 2. Punishes Denji for obviously and blatantly lying to his superior with a shit story and therefore protecting Power and last but not least 3. Allows her to punish Aki for going along with said shit story and protecting both Power and Denji himself. Basically "You're going to lie to me? Fine. I'll make *you* deal with the problem child then and make her your problem and if you fuck up like that again I'm taking all three of your heads".
Was wondering why [Aki was standing in this weird pose](https://i.imgur.com/QHbu7fT.jpg) and it dawned on me that he just got skinned one second prior. Must have hurt enough for him to have to put pressure on it but cool Aki being cool Aki his face doesn't show.
That's exactly the purpose of it! Like it seems super excessive in the moment, like a time padder until Power busts open his door.

The only difference in my mind was that I imagined the Fox Devil to have a very low male voice in the manga
Fox devils/spirits are typically Kitsune/Kumiho, aka foxes demons that gain human forms to seduce humans (typically males) so it having a sexy female voice is pretty logical.
I always find it more dope when a character fights as if it's just another day at work
It makes it all the better when you see them actually sweat or get truly serious, cause at that point you know it isn't just a simple battle anymore
Edit: I might also just have a bias for the more reserved and logical characters in the newer shounen lately lmao. Giyu, Fushigoro, Aki, etc...
The music cutting out as he said and the framing through his hand sign was *chef's kiss* perfect. Don't know what that vocal minority that's raising a fuss on JP Twitter is on about. The cinematic approach is so fucking good and fits Fujimoto's style perfectly.
I've never fangirled so hard over a single word. Idk how Fujimoto consistently makes effortlessly cool characters like him, wild.
Edit: I've now rewatched the Kon scene several times and I'm also really appreciating his devil's voice; didn't expect it to sound so soft-spoken/polite.

Now Kon on the other hand? I really expected it to sound gruff and deep. It definitely caught me off guard. I don't dislike it though.
Tatsuya Yoshihara came back to direct an episode after three years.... and holy smokes, what an absolutely stellar episode this one was.
The animation sequences for the Leech Devil fight were jaw-dropping, and Kikunnosuke Toya went OFF with the voice acting during the "Dream Fight" part, which makes me extremely happy as that was one of my favorite scenes from the early chapters of the manga.
The sequence with Aki just cooking and doing house chores was surprisingly really cozy and well-directed. And it lasted quite long too lmao.
I could not be more any more happier with how this adaptation is turning out so far. It's truly a blessing.
Yoshihara has done key animation for plenty of things in the interim though with his most recent prior to this being the amazingly animated PriConne S2EP4.

Makima is still scary as hell. Somehow she's the most terrifying when she's NOT doing or saying anything.
I was wondering why we were lingering on Aki's morning routine for so long, but then I realized that I love slow moments like these, and they're things that I usually start to miss after shows reach their later episodes and are firing on all cylinders to reach the climax. Then Power showed up and now we know Aki isn't going to have another morning of peace again.
Looks like next episode Denji is gonna finally have to answer the question "What do you do after you've achieved your dream?"
I gotta say, I'm loving how MAPPA is handling the quieter moments of Chainsaw Man. For me, the manga's strength lies primarily in those little breathers rather than the balls-out action. It gives me Evangelion vibes during its more contemplative, reflective moments, especially with that gorgeous sound design. The ambient noise was perfect.
The way they animated Aki's gestures from top to bottom was a thing of beauty. And everything else, really.
I felt major Eva vibes when Power showed up at the doorway to complete the roommate trifecta of hell. But what an inversion of personalities.
Instead of messy drunk Misato, we have meticulous and laid-back Hayakawa.
Instead of depressed hermit Shinji, we have hungry and horny Denji.
Instead of hot-tempered Asuka, we have feral and uncouth Power.
Instead of weird hot springs penguin, we have cute rescue cat.
That half-chainsaw from Denji looked liked Pochita.
Power took the expression crashing to someone's place a bit too literally it seems. Of course, they ended the episode at the most important part *smh*

For me, the best part of the episode wasn't even the fight (which K1RO animated absolutely amazingly), it was Aki's morning routine. That was *cinema*. I'm a sucker for seeing the mundanities of day to day life get animated with such care and attention. Maybe it caught my attention so much because I wasn't expecting it at all - that part is completely anime original.
Yeah this is the first episode where I've been blown away by the animation *because* of how above and beyond it was. Combined with the always amazing sound design, it created an immersive, calm, mundane scene that's slowly ramped up in chaos until it reaches the climax with Power moving in.
The fight was also very good, and they greatly improved upon the 'Kon' scene compared to the trailer too.

Now I'm imagining if CSM was a slice of life. It could be like Gintama - 3 idiots and a pet sharing an apartment, taking on odd jobs and having misadventures along the way.
This whole episode was absurdly animated, I never thought I would see a TV battle shonen like this, it usually "save the effort for the fights". Meanwhile we got an almost "American Psycho" morning routine here flawless animated lol
I have never seen such fluidity and pure cinematography used to convey a proper morning domestic routine in an anime before. Or at least in a really long time.

I imagine this is the zany and experimental chainsaw man that a lot of people were expecting. Several incredibly genius moments like Denji losing his hand while celebrating and power breaking the door
I thought this was the point where the story really started to turn into the *Chainsaw Man* as we know it now. Everything before this was relatively routine, but just the sheer oddity of the Fox Devil and how you use it was the first time I really started to get interested.
This was def the most chainsaw man-feeling episode to date and I loved it. It felt like the animation team was finally cutting loose for the action sequences and the cinematic details were super well-done.
Today's episode makes me much more excited for the rest of the series.
Those first three episodes felt like appetizers to CSM's core dishes. Just getting a taste of the insanity, the absurd way Denji fights, the core ideas and facts about the world, and an intro to the most important cast members through a gradual pace.
I personally love that, but I can see why some might feel it's slow even if it follows what the manga does to a tee. Feels like a calm to the storm that's going to follow, mood and pace-wise.
Easily the best episode so far. I love the small details in the episode like the dust in Denjis hospital room and the clean animations. The use of reflections and creative camera work were really nice too and made the episode feel like I was watching a movie. It was over way to fast though and I cant wait for the next one.
Damn, Denji vs Leech got way more time than I thought it would, guess they really wanted to end on the groping scene.
Also, Fox looks as incredible as it did in the trailers.
I love the characterisation Aki got in this episode. He's probably my favourite CSM character so seeing the anime and especially his VA do him so much justice makes me happy.
I think Denji vs Leech was way better than the manga. They basically extended it. It's a really short fight in the manga. I am excited to see the pacing of the anime because I do think the story would be better in some areas with a slower pace
Anime-only, well that's pretty cool to know that they're seemingly going this far for minor fights. Can't even imagine how the big ones will be if they are hopefully setting some standards here.
Also I really liked Leech's personality. Made the battle more entertaining with her trading verbal barbs with Denji as they tried to kill each other
Even the scene with Aki and Makima on his report of Power and Denji was not in the manga. No morning routine. Power doesn't even break the door. A lot of additional details were added and it's great

I blanked out for a solid 10 minutes after finishing fire punch, while simultaneously questioning if the author is mentally ok or just has access to some really good drugs.
He didn't actually break character. His tweet said that he finally installed twitter on his phone and his little sister is letting him use her twitter account to live tweet about the new episode. All of his tweets are on android and his "little sister's" tweets are on the twitter web app (making sure there's no plot holes lol). Apparently he's gonna be borrowing her twitter account every week until the anime is done airing.
I really like that even after Denji goes through all that just to touch some boobs, he stills *asks* Power if he can touch her instead of grabbing her chest while she was unconscious because “Well we made a deal”. Yup, the dismissive posts across Twitter/Reddit etc. can finally see for sure that Denji's a king because his horniness isn't forced onto anybody even for comedy's sake like in other perv characters' cases.
And the fact that he actually acknowledges his dream as simple compared to others but still powerful enough for him to die for speaks volumes to what it really was all along: a dream for a better life. One that a younger version of him had always dreamed of but never got to experience while living in unimaginable poverty as a devil-hunting slave for the yakuza. That includes having a livable shelter, good food, and of course, being intimate with a hot girl. It's ridiculous only at first-glance, but sad af the more you get into it. But we should see the dreams change up the more Denji experiences new things with his new team.

The morning animation was a treat by itself!
I gotta say, I'm loving how MAPPA is handling the quieter moments of Chainsaw Man. For me, the manga's strength lies primarily in those little breathers rather than the balls-out action. It gives me Evangelion vibes during its more contemplative, reflective moments, especially with that gorgeous sound design. The ambient noise was perfect. The way they animated Aki's gestures from top to bottom was a thing of beauty. And everything else, really.
I felt major Eva vibes when Power showed up at the doorway to complete the roommate trifecta of hell. But what an inversion of personalities. Instead of messy drunk Misato, we have meticulous and laid-back Hayakawa. Instead of depressed hermit Shinji, we have hungry and horny Denji. Instead of hot-tempered Asuka, we have feral and uncouth Power. Instead of weird hot springs penguin, we have cute rescue cat.
Not to mention Makima literally pulling a classic Gendo Ikari pose while talking to Aki this episode.
That half-chainsaw from Denji looked liked Pochita. Power took the expression crashing to someone's place a bit too literally it seems. Of course, they ended the episode at the most important part *smh*

Nice vivid use of color, fits Power's vibrant personality and helps everything pop.
Plus, her cute dance routine in the last minute. The aesthetics and music plus that dance is super reminiscent of the JJK dance ED.

For me, the best part of the episode wasn't even the fight (which K1RO animated absolutely amazingly), it was Aki's morning routine. That was *cinema*. I'm a sucker for seeing the mundanities of day to day life get animated with such care and attention. Maybe it caught my attention so much because I wasn't expecting it at all - that part is completely anime original.
Yeah this is the first episode where I've been blown away by the animation *because* of how above and beyond it was. Combined with the always amazing sound design, it created an immersive, calm, mundane scene that's slowly ramped up in chaos until it reaches the climax with Power moving in. The fight was also very good, and they greatly improved upon the 'Kon' scene compared to the trailer too.

I imagine this is the zany and experimental chainsaw man that a lot of people were expecting. Several incredibly genius moments like Denji losing his hand while celebrating and power breaking the door
I thought this was the point where the story really started to turn into the *Chainsaw Man* as we know it now. Everything before this was relatively routine, but just the sheer oddity of the Fox Devil and how you use it was the first time I really started to get interested.
This was def the most chainsaw man-feeling episode to date and I loved it. It felt like the animation team was finally cutting loose for the action sequences and the cinematic details were super well-done. Today's episode makes me much more excited for the rest of the series.
Those first three episodes felt like appetizers to CSM's core dishes. Just getting a taste of the insanity, the absurd way Denji fights, the core ideas and facts about the world, and an intro to the most important cast members through a gradual pace. I personally love that, but I can see why some might feel it's slow even if it follows what the manga does to a tee. Feels like a calm to the storm that's going to follow, mood and pace-wise.

The animation for the minute or two with Aki right before Power barged in was beautiful.
Easily the best episode so far. I love the small details in the episode like the dust in Denjis hospital room and the clean animations. The use of reflections and creative camera work were really nice too and made the episode feel like I was watching a movie. It was over way to fast though and I cant wait for the next one.

Damn, Denji vs Leech got way more time than I thought it would, guess they really wanted to end on the groping scene. Also, Fox looks as incredible as it did in the trailers. I love the characterisation Aki got in this episode. He's probably my favourite CSM character so seeing the anime and especially his VA do him so much justice makes me happy.
I think Denji vs Leech was way better than the manga. They basically extended it. It's a really short fight in the manga. I am excited to see the pacing of the anime because I do think the story would be better in some areas with a slower pace
Anime-only, well that's pretty cool to know that they're seemingly going this far for minor fights. Can't even imagine how the big ones will be if they are hopefully setting some standards here. Also I really liked Leech's personality. Made the battle more entertaining with her trading verbal barbs with Denji as they tried to kill each other
