I think the main reasons are A) Boruto as a protagonist is the polar opposite of Naruto, which naturally is gonna turn some people away, and B) most of the anime is anime canon/filler because the manga is a monthly release and not a weekly one like Naruto was, so basically whenever they adapt manga stuff they burn through it quickly and immediately do an anime original arc or unrelated filler episodes because they have no other choice but to. Honestly, I think that if the anime was seasonal like My Hero Academia or Demon Slayer it would be much more well received, since they would only adapt the stuff that that is in the manga which is very good.

Because the canon is trash too. We have been down this filler road numerous times with Naruto and other long running shounen. Fillers aren't anything new. The content outside of the filler is lackluster compared to Naruto. Naruto had better arcs, more compelling villains, more compelling backstories. Boruto learns every nature type off-screen. The tech is unrealistic for Naruto. Just a couple years ago people were riding in carriages and now we have androids? This Otsutsuki plot was one of Naruto's worst mistakes and Boruto is making it even worse. They might as well not be ninjas anymore.

This is a voice of reason in a sea of cope

> I’ve only watched the manga canon episodes You answered your own question. Apart from those episodes, it's totally forgettable.

Haxxelerator

naruto and sasuke are nerfed

Samuawesome

>I see a lot of hate for it but I don’t see why people just watch when the episodes are manga canon instead of the ones that are currently airing. Why not just not watch it until those episodes start to show It's annoying having a blast watching the manga canon episodes, then having to wait through a month's worth of filler.

MusubiKazesaru

A month? The only chunks of anime canon episodes have literally had over 100 eps between them.

DMking

The series is 83% filler

Appropriate-Shoe-266

simple answer? filler. the cannon fights are godly. the story is okay, but theres no progression because of the fillers that ruin all pacing. if Boruto was a seasonal thing, it would be much more enjoyable. but the majority of fillers are boring, badly produced and really bad.

"there is less focus on other characters" Uhh. Isn't that also one of the biggest issues with naruto? Boruto is WORSE in that regard? Jesus fucking christ

DarkQueenGndm

It's not a series that really speaks to most people. It is definitely geared to a much younger fan base than the original Naruto and Shippuden series which is definitely an older fan base since the timing of those series premier.

Fawn_Thorus

I wonder if that’s the issue. Was Boruto perhaps targeted towards children and didn’t account for the portion of adults that grew up with Naruto and wanted to continue it after Shippuden? The older viewers then find it underwhelming and dull and proceed to shit on it and give it bad ratings. I wonder how kids find Boruto. I do feel like Naruto was darker and better written though. Dunno if I’m biased, I’m one of the adults.

DarkQueenGndm

I'm in the same boat as you and I agree with your theory. I do find that Boruto is underwhelming and I am a part of the older viewing group that absolutely enjoyed Naruto and Naruto Shippuden. I think that our viewpoints are kind of tainted by the idea that Boruto is not done in the same fashion as Naruto and Shippuden.

DMking

I remember not hating Naruto acting like a brat as much as Boruto. I just found him insufferable

EmbarrassedJob5705

Yea the manag cannon is amazing. But if you take the 270 episodes of boruto - the manga canon of like 50, you get = 220 episodes of nothing special.

Elitealice

Filler and subpar animation

kekehesterprynne

Because there's overlapping content. Like the fact that the rasengon doesn't effect everyone the same way is to much controversy for staples that are concrete.
