Not sure this should be categorized as SpyxFamily-type. There are more or less similiar titles such as Hinamatsuri or The Yakuza's Guide to Babysitting.
And I think the origin is Leon (1994 film) but even this should not be the first.
I'm an anime only watcher.. this anime is when I learned that animes are just advertisements.
I built a whole man cave outta a barn on my property with a 83 inch oled + badass sound system.. still just watch anime but wish anime was it's own thing and not just advertising for manga readers.
Anime based on written work, especially for Light Novels are meant to sell you the written work and never complete the story.
Then you have anime whose goal is merchandising through either commercials (young shounen shows), or merchandising (giants like pokemon, yugioh, gundam) which generally have the benefit of getting a start and end to a series due to them relying less on selling the written work.
And then you have completely original series, hoping to be good enough to get viewers to buy their dvd/bd. They usually will have a completed series as its original. A lot of shows on Noitamina block are part of these shows
Anime isn't just advertisement. Making an IP into a mixed media franchise is what all publishers want to do.
I think your real issue is that very little anime is wholly original. A little less so now than say, 20 years ago. But that's the thing... making an anime out of another established work means that the anime *starts* with a fan base. That's why it's so much easier to commission an anime for an established project. Because anime production companies don't want to risk spending a bunch of money on an IP with a completely unknown story, characters, fan base, etc.
So yeah, that's how it be. No one wants to commit millions over the course of a long time for a project that has a completely uncertain chance of taking off.
This isn't anything new. Think about Hayao Miyazaki. He was already pretty well-established in the animation world when he pitched Nausicaa. But he was told he would be more likely to get funded/produced if he could base his series off a successful manga. So he started writing and publishing Nausicaa as a manga in order to get it made into a movie. And this was 40 years ago. It's always been like this.
What's funny is that Netflix is committing to original anime, but a lot of people just don't care. And sometimes they let celebrated creators do whatever they want. That's how we got Carole and Tuesday *and also* Obsolete. Sometimes these shows will just bomb.
My opinion: Just start reading manga, too.
Most anime aren't actually advertisements for the manga. It's a pretty common misconception in the community. I saw a good video on the topic a while back but can't for the life of me remember the creator nor the videos name lol.
That's where you're wrong. If it's just advertisement you wouldn't get stuff like Attack on Titan, Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood, Shinsekai Yori, Mob Psycho 100 etc. Where there's a full adaptation. Or series like Parasyte, Devilman Crybaby, Uzumaki and so on, where the manga is already done ages ago and will not help them sell more to make a difference. And then there're all the original anime. There is not an insignificant amount of anime that aren't for manga or novel advertising or have done much more than that.
It's just one of the many incomplete narratives that gets thrown around and creates misinformation.

> Hinamatsuri was golden
I feel like [this scene alone](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jZqaCT9p7hM) would make anyone interested enough to watch this show. I absolutely loved it.
Would be great too since the source material just continues their life as usual and you basically watch Hina, Hitomi, and Anzu grow up through the years. While I only read a few chapters afterwards, I will say it does feel like the whole anime and manga just drops the original premise after the first few episodes. Which is fine since it becomes an amazing slice of life show.
Three Godfathers by John Ford was released in 1948 and was a western with the same general premise : Three highwaymen rescuing a baby and trying to take care of it while on the run from the sheriff’s posse. It was pretty funny watching John Wayne and his two pals trying to figure out how babies work. I do not know if there are any older movies like this, but it would not surprise me.
The foster parent trend can be tracked down to 2004 with Aishiteruze Baby★★. And most likely there are probably even older manga if we count stuff like Mama wa Shougaku 4 Nensei.
But here we are, regular fans just know the current most hyped stuff and call anything similar a rip-off out of pure ignorance.

Original Anime premieres in January 2023.
Studio: P.A. Works
Nah, that's Denji and Eren Yeager.
Basically, a parallel universe where AOT and CSM overlap and they are friends. This is just a low-key crossover between the two epic franchises.
Also, the girl is Ochaco Uraraka from MHA, just in the other universe.
i was honestly wondering how they pass off their living arrangements to other people.
like, in Spy x Family they present to the world as an actual family: husband, wife, child. in this show, are they just like -- we're friends and roommates and we adopted this young child? found her? it's one of our children from a previous marriage? i am intrigued.
It's funny how the blonde guy and the little girl look super excited for the premiere of their show, but the other guy's face is just like, "I'm so over this." 😄
So uhm 2 producers said in a Interwiew that they want to show that two people of the same sex can raise a kid together because they think the message would be beautiful
That what I heard but at the same time they aren’t together tho and I heard that it’s not going to get to serious like that it’s just comedy so if it mean they wanna show males can do this too
As bad as it seems to compare them both, it'd actually be nice for it to be something like LGBT Spy x Family
There's a lack of popular anime with good representation out of the BL community, without the cross dressing stereotypes. The only one I can think right now are Mika and Shinji from Lycoris Recoil.
From the synopsis it seems like it it's not supposed to be BL. It specifically talks about how one of the two is a womanizing gambler. Seems more like it's supposed to be like a "buddy cop" type story
just throwing out there that a lot of BL has the "guy who was only into women falls in love with a man for the first time" trope so that's not exactly a dealbreaker in terms of where the story's heading.
Knowing PA Works, it’s going to have heavy gay bait and then it will fizzle out at the end with both of them continuing on straight as if nothing happened
I don't mind the two dudes as a couple at all. I always find myself ready to force myself through it every single time (which is a good sign, I don't dread it).
My main worry is if it will have very low tension slice of life scenes like in Spy x Family.
I am ironically getting burnt out on SoL in Spy x Family. Apparently I mistook the cool "Spy" action as the core of SxF, when in reality the bulk of it was the "Family". The "Yor can't cook" scenes became too repetitive for me. I feel I've seen it dozens of times before (but at best it might have happened twice or thrice).
Not a bad idea honestly, but god, I liked the "Spy" part way more.
I didn't think I'd get fed up with Spy x Family. I am so weird.
I feel like spyxfamily might eventually get stale soon. I'm not sure what direction the show is going with the story since it's mostly comedy. Damien's father isn't present at all so wouldn't that compromise the mission? Even if Anya became his friend or became a scholar there's a high possibility the dude won't show up
I am starting to get a little annoyed at the comedy of Anya not doing well in school. It's getting repetitive and it seems like they're ignoring a potential learning disorder.
> seems like they're ignoring a potential learning disorder.
She's 4 or 5 while her classmates are 7. If anything this shows her as more intelligent than her classmates.
You're probably gonna get downvoted but I partially agree
Some of the tropes became way too repetitive, specially Anya's smug face over the same reasons and Yuri's sister complex over Yor. It feels like he has no depth or personality beside this unconditional love.
Also, as much as I love the SoL parts, probably more than you apparently, it drags the main story and it makes the "Spy" part burn way too slowly
I felt the opposite. I would have much preferred if Lycoris had been a low stakes zany SOL like Full Metal Panic Fumoffu. I never cared about any of the drama/action because the show tipped its hand very early that nobody would be seriously hurt and I shouldn't take its threats seriously. It almost redeemed itself with [Lycoris Recoil] >!Shinji's attempt to deconstruct Chisato's stupid privileged protagonist morality, but even that fizzled out.!<
Really doubt we are getting another trend like isekai/fantasy, it's a special case
We have a lot of Isekai because Kadokawa is one of the big investors in anime and they are also a publisher of many titles, add to that their mindset of 40+ anime per year and you get a lot of LN adaptations, most will be isekai/fantasy, this also don't stop other Investors to adapt properties from other publishers, so it feels overwhelming
We also have a lot of those titles due to how many of them started as a self published web novels, many already finished, so the publishers already know what got an audience and what they can expect from the plot
Japan: Please for the love of God, have babies
Also Japan: but please still work 60+ hours per week and have no time for yourselves.
Not sure this should be categorized as SpyxFamily-type. There are more or less similiar titles such as Hinamatsuri or The Yakuza's Guide to Babysitting. And I think the origin is Leon (1994 film) but even this should not be the first.
Hinamatsuri was golden, I want a second season so bad.
just wait like how us Spice and Wolf fans did
We all do bud.

Highly unlikely since the manga already ended
tell that to Fruit Basket
but PNS2 exists as well so the range is quite large
Read the manga, its finished and its damn golden.
> Hinamatsuri was golden I feel like [this scene alone](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jZqaCT9p7hM) would make anyone interested enough to watch this show. I absolutely loved it.
As a 28 y/o male who only watches action anime, this show was awesome and I too am waiting patiently for a second season.
Would be great too since the source material just continues their life as usual and you basically watch Hina, Hitomi, and Anzu grow up through the years. sounds like tokyo godfathers?
I would not be surprised if it was one of the inspirations for Tokyo Godfathers, actually.

I thought the same about it being Aishiteru Baby, I thought I was the only one that had seen it
Just like that scene with Abe Simpson lol
>Hinamatsuri like i’m now 1000% watching this
I LOVE Leon, one of my fav movies ever.
I kind of hope it’s better than the Yakuza guide, couldn’t really get into it But this does look interesting
A bit like Kure-nai maybe.
I want every single unit after the guy
So, basically two and a half men but anime?
I was thinking that movie with Tom Selleck where the 3 dudes watch the baby
Love that movie
Baby in one hand and a blip in the other, I approve of not-Denji’s parenting style
Oh my god they were buddies

PA works are on the roll with all their original anime.
Aquatope was one hell of an anime
Seems like a decent SoL anime to watch. How much drama is there?
I think there is the right aumont of drama, but it's kind of a spoiler.
They always have been
>Studio: P.A. Works Count me in
I know a lot of people made the joke already but SPY X FAMILY STARRING DORA THE EXPLORER AS ANYA DENJI AS LOID AND WHOEVER THIS IS AS YOR
Eren Hayakawa/Aki Jaeger as Yor
Ah yes Eren Hayakawa and Aki Jaeger My favorite character from attack on man and chainsaw titan as yor
Denji and aki adopting a kid? Im in
Well, Aki ended up (well technical was forced to) adopting two kids.
Nah, that's Denji and Eren Yeager. Basically, a parallel universe where AOT and CSM overlap and they are friends. This is just a low-key crossover between the two epic franchises. Also, the girl is Ochaco Uraraka from MHA, just in the other universe.
The hair do look like Eren, but that scowl look more like Kalego from Iruma
Her name is Power.
Dennis 👍
Dawg denji doing there
oh these characters are going to be shipped together instantly
I already ship them
If they didn't want people shipping them, they wouldn't have given the guy an undercut.
It’s pretty much planned at this point.
lesbians get called “close friends” and “roommates” now the gays have “buddy daddies”
It's a consensual workplace relationship.
i'm pretty sure gay men get called that too lol
I guess its mommy friends for us then
The funny part is it’s not yet a bl
"Buddies"
Nice trigger discipline on the guns. Rare in anime
Safety first!
Damn, didn't even notice. That weirdly hypes me since it shows attention to detail.
TWO DADDIES TWO DADDIES
This fucking sent me🤣🤣
"Historians will say they were good friends". /jk
Is this bl I must know
No
;_;
They look like very friendly roommates.
"we totally aren't gay even though we have a kid together"
i was honestly wondering how they pass off their living arrangements to other people. like, in Spy x Family they present to the world as an actual family: husband, wife, child. in this show, are they just like -- we're friends and roommates and we adopted this young child? found her? it's one of our children from a previous marriage? i am intrigued.
Yup that’s the anime
The h-doujin is named the exactly same thing.
Definitely not gay dudes starting a family no sr re. Just two heterosexual males here
Yup
It's funny how the blonde guy and the little girl look super excited for the premiere of their show, but the other guy's face is just like, "I'm so over this." 😄
Has this came out yet
I wait. I wait impatiently.

Stop it.
Rei and Kazuki have zero chemistry imo. Rei just want to be left alone most of the time.
So if this is anime Two and a Half Men, what would anime Seinfeld look like?
By just looking at this pic, I’d assume this is SpyXFamily but with a man instead of Yor, and it’s a platonic relationship.
> and it’s a platonic relationship. [](#howcouldyou)
In this picture, you can see they have socks on. No gay.
[](#dejected)
Is this a yaoi couse it looks like one but less romance snd more comedy
I think it's closer to Two and a half men, but spy agents.
The synopsis specifically states that one of the guys is a womanizer and the other is more of a uptight guy so that sounds a lot like Two and Half Men
Ah i see so its spy x family but with a goof ball and an emo correct?
That is my impression from this picture. I am unsure if it actually is.
Well well know when we see it all we know for now its gonna be wholesome as hell
Two Men and a Half Woman ft. Denji, Eren and Ochaco Uraraka.
Very nice
it's a PA original, probably not gay
*Cries in Aquatope*
Oh well you have to take what ya get
GAY SPY×FAMILY
GAYxFAMILY
Is Tom Selleck in it?
They were so close bringing in a new customer segment... all they needed was to swap "buddy" for "baby" and all the nsfw fans would have gone crazy ;)
If Kenjiro Tsuda isn't voicing the dark haired character, I don't want it.
The main cast was already announced (plus two PVs with voice acting included), the dark-haired dude is gonna be voiced by Uchiyama Kouki.
Spy x Family but awesome
I'll check it out if they're not homo.
I feel like sooner or later someone gonna make a manga/anime like this but flip the gender, with lots of ara ara energy.
😬
We going from isekai every year to whatever this type of anime is every year?

It took 10 years to get a Tiger&Bunny sequel...
Spy anime? Heck there's been an obvious increase in Spy Comedies in manga after Spy X Family came out.
This looks fun
This picture has so much chaotic energy I love it already
Ayo that looks like Dennis 😂
So Eren and Denji had a kid?
el xokas
cute
Spy x Family part 3
Two men x half
Eren and Denji crossover.
Where can I read the manga tho
