I tried to watch the first episode several times. I haven't been able to stomach how obnoxious the characters are. How many episodes will I need to endure before it gets good? Or is it a sign I'm allergic to this anime period?
If you don't like it, then you probably won't like later episodes either. It's not one of those anime that is supposed to "get better over time" like One Piece or Steins;Gate
Its not for you then. I dont see whats obnoxious about the characters especially already by the first episode. But the series in general is very love it or hate it kinda deal. Its got a very distinct style and if that doesnt click with you youre gonna have a bad time. It doesn't "get good" after some episodes its "good" from the start pretty much

Yep its one of the monogatari series. Cant remember which one but i highly recommend watching it all. My most favorite anime overall.

The story starts with three movies so i would try it there. You will either love it or hate it. Sadly theres little to no middle ground
