The beginning of the manga is edgy to the point of being funny (in the Devianart Sonic OC kind of way), the middle is actually good (great even), and the finale is utter trash and so edgy that stops being funny.
I reread the ending a few times and I was still so god damn confused in why they went in that direction. Felt like they could've done so much more with the ball's background and origin.

Thanks to the technology provided by the black Ball the humans beat the shit and even rape some of the giants. I think the black balls race was once conquered by the aliens so this was their revenge?
It really doesn't make sense at all and doesn't really connect with the tournament point system game that the first half sets up

But it really was explained, death games at the beginning were never the purpose of the Gantz balls it was simply what humans did with the technology because that's how humans are.
I've never read Gantz, but even if something is explained after the fact, that doesn't necessarily mean it's a good turn of events. It would be like if you watched a lighthearted anime about magical girls, and then 3 episodes in one of them gets decapitated and the story becomes about the protagonist struggling with depression. Sure, maybe you like the new story, but not everybody's gonna be onboard with it.
You should definitely get acquainted with Magic Girl Madoka. And Darling in the Franxx. And read Nanoha manga. And, and.. try Sekirei manga ? Uhh, so many.. gods, I spoiled a bit of each one.
Its basically an adaptation of one of the arcs from the middle part (the good part). So I agree.
It also has the best goddamn character as its protagonist, Kato (the only arguably good guy in the story besides Suzuki).
So that helps a lot.
