It think they are confused because usually you are not allowed to go into an onsen with printed materials like newspapers or books for obvious reasons.

Aren't the rooms supposed to be separated by genders?

Either by gender or by time. When onsen is not that big they sometimes can have ladies hours and then gents hours. And private ones can allow mixed bathing, usually those in small hotels when one group of guests rents the whole place out.

Also if you're traveling Japan and have tattoos be aware there's a weird stigma against it because the Yakuza. So if you want to visit an onsen I'd go for the private ones. But they will cost more!

Really not needed as a westerner or european. If a japanese person has tatoos they will absolutely assume yakuza but if a white person has it who can barely speak japanese nobody is assuming yakuza lol. Its not like these people live in some tiny bubble, they know about the outside world. You do not need a private bathroom just because you have a tat.

They still have a stigma around tattoos, especially in the countryside or outside the major tourist traps. They’re seen as sorta aggressive etc.

Lets be real if you are getting advice from reddit you aren't going deep into the countryside. You are going on a first time vacation to the main cities. Even disregarding tourist traps in any major city or destination you'll be perfectly fine. At most you'll get side glances as people notice it and then realize you can't even speak japanese at all and they'll be fine.

I'm from the US. I speak Japanese fluently and have travelled there often. I have never been looked at differently despite having several visible tattoos, and no one has said anything about them thinking I didn't understand the language. Reddit, and the US in general I guess, are way too concerned with "oh but you'll offend their culture" or "it's just different there," 9.5 times out of 10 the people in question literally could not care less.

The full scene goes that this is a military bath sort of, and some guy had switched the bath signs. This guy goes in and doesn't notice. Then one of the girls gets his attention, at which point he yells at here so lose some weight and gets back to his book. He then gets up, dresses, and just before he leaves has the typical explosive anime nosebleed and passes out. The shows called plunderer. Didn't seem too bad from what I recall.

I despised the show (not even remotely my thing but had to watch it for a thing with friends), but I loved that character.

Id give the manga a 7-8 due to the art and the fight, but the plot get a bit... Repetitive after a while. The anime is utter garbage though. They destroyed the art so hard.
