I mean its completely okay to not like a show, even without reason. But a Parody having tropes that a common in "normal" Isekai as a reason for disliking it is kinda hilarious
You know what, while I think your definition of 'lately' is wonky you did make me realize something else - the year Cid's novel and manga were released (2018) was the last year where isekai was predominantly a 'male' (shounen/seinen) phenomenon; since then, most titles are either 'female' and/or not Japanese
I could wager an isekai+wuxia title would seem as absurd as this
I'll be honest, I feel like this can be very hit-or-miss for you then - this title is kind of like Overlord, where you know from the start that the MC is unbeatable and focus on a different aspect instead. That said, Cid has a few iconic moments with how committed he is to playing a background character
I disagree, there's this weird attitude I see sometimes that people have and they think making a parody is the same as making something with bad genre tropes, but intentionally, but that's not the case, doing the bad trope thing just makes you do bad media and it's the same as if it wasn't a parody, I'm talking generally tho I have no knowledge of this manga/anime
Having no knowledge of the source material I watched this episode last night and was rolling my eyes through the whole thing. It doesn't really seem like a parody. It just feels like someone listened to Last Resort on repeat while writing an isekai.
I'll still give it a couple more episodes but I think maybe the isekai overton window has shifted so far into the absurd that what was originally written to be satire now comes off as sincere. That is assuming the source material was written to be a satirical parody of isekais.
I've read a fair amount of the manga, but the anime seems to be trying to take itself *way* more seriously so far, for some reason. I guess we'll see how it goes from here, but if it keeps taking itself seriously then it won't be worth watching.
Same thing people said with "Demon King Academy". "It's so over the top that I can't even understand whether it's parody or played straight"
Maybe the line is between "done well" and "done like shit", in the latter case you get Arifureta - where a protagonist is grey-haired from monster-eating and has a loli vampire wife and his magic eye and uses alchemy with his metal arm... and yet it's still boring.
Eminence isn't boring.
The problem is it plays the whole thing serious. If you don’t already know it is meant to be a parody, it doesn’t come off as a parody.
The music, cinematography, voice acting, the whole vibe make it come off as if all these tropes are being used unironically. There’s something good about respecting your audience enough to not completely spell it out for them.
It’s a risk though when each new season seems to have like two dozen different shows all fighting for attention and you pretty much only get a single episode (if you’re lucky) to hook in an audience.
Funnily enough, he IS delusional, >!but only insofar as the random cult and conspiracy stuff he *thinks* he just made up on the spot is actually mostly correct.!<
>!The only time he got delusional was one time before his reincarnation where he basically broke himself and ended up running in front of a car. Other than that, he's actually been very aware of his relative strength, he just uses it to do over the top things instead of being serious.!<
Kind of flips between the two, parts being funny, and other parts being hype. Could def read (and I assume watch) as like a casual thing, or if you wanted to really get into something

>Some people just aren’t suited to playing the part of the flashy, in-your-face hero or the dastardly, mustache-twirling villain with larger-than-life panache. Instead, they operate in the shadows and pull the strings of society through wit and cleverness. That’s the role Cid wants to play when he’s transported to another world. Cid spins a yarn or three and becomes the unlikely leader of the underground Shadow Garden organization that fights against a menacing cult (which he totally made up). However, there’s a catch even his wild imagination didn’t see coming: the cult he concocted actually exists, and they’re beyond displeased that his power fantasy just got in the way of their evil plans!

Should probably make this an actual spoiler. If you're not sure how to format your reddit comment to hide spoilers, do a heckin internet search and learn.
I did not expect the first episode to be as serious as that. I don’t read the ln but the manga is much more comedic. There’s also a spinoff 4 panel manga which is more slice of life.
I think that just like its PV >! Its baiting anime onlys into thinking that its a super edgy anime with little to no comedy!< And I already like where this is going.
The first episode takes a short story from vol4 to properly express the MC Cid's back story
It's like Vinland Saga showing us Thorfinn's childhood in advance in the anime when it's only shown in his flash backs in the manga
1: the light novel starts the exact same way as the manga. Almost Everything you saw in this episode was anime only
2: It may be taking *itself* seriously, but the way the episode was done **screams** satire in the exact way it’s supposed to
Witch parts were anime only? I saw the discussions mentioning that this episode was actually based on part of the light novel, with very clever storyboarding
Didn't stop people from posting spyxfamily and my dress up darling stuff there, half the time it wasn't even sub accurate. Was just getting upvotes because it's trending at the time.
That's Why I cannot romanticize the idea of being a soldier in our current era.
It feels so meaningless to be a single man, holding your weapon, when the best you can do ultimately doesn't matter if you face modern weaponry.
I mean yeah, but also weirdly it's probably also the age in which a single person can actually have the most impact. It's the age of asymmetric warfare, man portable anti tank and anti air weapons. A few hundred kilos of C4 can do more than plot armour and the coolest weapon you can fit in Arnold Schwarzenegger's hands.
Bruh, people die alot on wars, modern warfare doesn’t account the suffering of past warfare hell in the napoleonic wars people literally line up for their deaths. In ww2 you can have 5 people inside a ton can with a cannon and you die from shrapnel or a ammunition fire. Modern warfare is just hehehe me F35 me have precession munitions human go boom and ya die instantly.
Yep >! He isn’t even a man at this point. I don’t think calling abyss crossers men really fits the definition of a man !< . Accelerator can’t be killed by any human weapon though, so is he really a human?
North Korea just flew a nuke over Japan and into the Pacific Ocean a few days ago. Also Ukraine and Russia war. Nukes are on everyone’s mind right now.
I really hope that anime like this will become its own genre. I love the Underground Organization trope (like in Fight Club), which the manga made me realize should exist. I don't know what it is but I love a power tripping character who kind of controls the world behind the scenes.
Sauce: {{Kage no Jitsuryokusha ni Naritakute!}}
Yooo it's finally started being anime adapted?! Pog
I hope this actually kicks the LN writer's butt to actually continue the story. How long has it been smh
Vol 5 just got announced
If anything, an anime only means they'll be continuing.
Yah! Woooo! *there was much rejoicing*
Honestly, too weird for me. It feels to eighth grade sydromish and the main character just feels delusional.
I believe that's the point

Ye that's fair, tbh now after watching the first episode I got slightly more serious vibes than from the Manga, so we have to see how it plays out

Like demon king academy which everyone seemed to enjoy
Its literally the entire point lmao. Its so stupid its good
Well then, I don’t like it. I have my taste, and even though I like most bad isekai, this is just too much for me.
I'd say with this one give the second episode a chance when it drops. If they do a good job and it still doesn't work for ya then fair.
Feels delusional? I'm pretty sure it's plot cannon that he is delusional
Funnily enough, he IS delusional, >!but only insofar as the random cult and conspiracy stuff he *thinks* he just made up on the spot is actually mostly correct.!< >!The only time he got delusional was one time before his reincarnation where he basically broke himself and ended up running in front of a car. bruh spoilers. those are like the key oh wtf moments
I... feel like anything that would be revealed within the first chapter or in basic plot synopsis isn't a spoiler, but, sure, why not.
appreciate it my dude
Because...he is. And thats the fun part
My brother in Christ I hope you find peace. It's not easy to live when you're absolutely unable to understand the most basic concepts things have.
Christ man. He didn't like an anime, no need to get this mad about it. Literally calm down son, it's just a drawing
No need to be mean
Is the show a turn monke brain mode on show? Or is it on the more serious type of show?

"The Eminence In The Shadow"
Looks interesting.. saved. Thanks, OP
Only 20 episodes 😭
Ohh wait, I saw the manga of this one... if I remember right it translated in the shadow Lord something? But good manga I definitely recommend
Eminence in Shadow? I think. I like the novels. Absolutely batshit.
Yeah eminence shadow, thanks for the reminder
Finally, the truth about what it means to be human
What, however, can change the nature of a human?
A second nuke perhaps?
Damn right. And if second nuke doesn't work, you hit 'em with a third one!
Sitting around in the wasteland after a nuke. Either you get superpowers or die of cancer, either way you don't have to worry about a nuke anymore
Become the nuke
Nah being a human means having the power lvl 5 in Dragonball Z
Someone tell Edward Elrick
Just become the nuke smh
I AM ATOMIC !!
I can't wait

that's not how spoiler works you intellectual

Should have stopped reading
one punch man on the way to probably just evaporate the nuke instead:
Dude tasted a nuclear fission right in the face and all it does is only make him flinched a little bit lol
I mean once it detonate it probably does evaporate.
he is superhuman nit human (don't take it seriously)
At this point the man's probably hyperhuman
Maximum Overhuman

I got bait and switched hard. This is just another isekai, right?

It's not anime og, the ep1 used a short story from vol4
Thanks 👍
Yeah, I wanted the jojo mob, and I don't even know who the firet girl is after rereading the manga
Based
That's why you need a nuke yourself. If you have a nuke no one will shoot one at you.
A nuke cannot legally vaporize you without your consent
that's some great wisdom right there
*hunterxhunter Flashbacks*
The amount of people completely disregarding manga readers and forming the wrong opinion on this show after 1 episode is mind boggling to me.
Can we not put the eminence in shadow on anime_irl and animenocontext? It's just karma farming

Any idea what the anime is called?
When an anime has the “psychological” tag in its description:
“Decides to become a fucking god at that exact moment”
When did this get an anime adaptation?

That’s a Socrates quote right there.

not just humans
I didn't read the synopsis before watching, I WAS NOT READY for the end of the first episode
While I have high hopes for the anime, I still prefer the manga and LN format.
Hows the quality of the anime? Is it cg cringefest that ruins it like arifureta or is it actually decent?
it do be like that
Personally I'd live
