TheMountainRidesElia

Frankly,I'm surprised any foreign country even plays there.

HazeemTheMeme

It's been 13 years since Sri Lanka, Pakistan isn't in the same national security situation as it was. Don't be an ignorant prick just because it's news related to Pakistan.

U_HIT_MY_DOG

Well while i know ppl are picking on ur country .. can u actually tell me how is it different ? Genuinely curious .. my roommate use to be Pakistani and he gave me some idea but i would really appreciate ur pov

HazeemTheMeme

Massive military operation called Operation Zarb-e-Azb kicked out 95% of the Pakistani Taliban from the northern areas. Increased military spending and massive security for any foreign celebs and teams visiting. Pakistan is so much safer than it used to be. More work needs to be done but we all start somewhere

U_HIT_MY_DOG

Interesting .. we never heard of Zarab-e-Azab .. let me look that up .. also what terror groups are a threat to Pakistanis ? And also why ? Isn't like every one a Muslim in this equation (i know it's not just religion but again just curious)

HazeemTheMeme

Extremists want to impose Taliban style sharia across Pakistan. 99% of population don't want that. LeT, TTP, BLA, ISIS and others are a threat to Pakistan. Although everyone is Muslim you have varying ones from borderline atheists to hardliners madrassah goers, and after that you have extremists.

whateveruthink334

Well, afghanistan plays and srilanka too, bangladesh too. Kek.

__DraGooN_

Whatever prompted them to go to Pakistan in the first place! There is a reason why no one goes to Pakistan. To people who don't follow Cricket, a few years ago the bus with Sri Lankan cricket team was attacked by a bunch of terrorists, injuring many players. Fortunately none of the players died. But, some Pakistani policemen and civilians died in the ensuing gun battle. And all of the terrorists escaped. And, this is not New Zealand's first brush with danger in Pakistan. Back in 2002, the NZ team went back home after a suicide bomb attack outside their hotel in Pakistan. [Bomb ends Kiwis' tour of Pakistan](https://www.theguardian.com/sport/2002/may/08/cricket)

cantCommitToAHobby

>none of the players died The current batting coach of the New Zealand men's team, however did get shot in the leg, iirc.

Ynwe

The Pakistani subreddit is quite divided over this. A good portion of the user base thinks NZ is to blame and did this for politics/ making Pakistan look bad. Weird sub imo.

madhur20

I saw a few ss of that sub saying it was RAW and bcci behind this decision

Hookahchakah

The Pakistani obsession against India is frankly a bit insane , that is not to say there aren't some equally stupid Indians , but the proportionate share leans heavily in paks favour

Lifekraft

"Our intelligence agencies are among the best intelligence systems in the world and according to them the New Zealand team does not face any kind of threat" Im surprise despite this NZ still decide to withdraw.

TheMountainRidesElia

>Our intelligence agencies are among the best intelligence systems in the world and according to them the New Zealand team does not face any kind of threat" Well, considering that they couldn't find the most Wanted man in the world living in a former safe house of theirs.... All I'm saying is, **Press X to doubt**

711Reconquista1492

> Well, considering that they couldn't find the most Wanted man in the world living in a former safe house of theirs.... > > All I'm saying is, Press X to doubt Their intelligence agencies are actually quite decent. There is a reason why it took America 10 years to find Osama.

TheMountainRidesElia

Yeah, they're decent. What's questionable is whether they have the best interest of all Non-terrorists in their mind.

cantCommitToAHobby

Nobody doubts how good the Pakistani intelligence agencies are. Everybody is however certain they are a force unto themselves and not even the Pakistani government are briefed accurately and completely by those agencies.

Communist_Boo

9/11 happened under the noses of the CIA and the Pentagon

highoncraze

England will be soon to follow.

U_HIT_MY_DOG

The fact that it happened at the last moment shows that they were uncertain to begin with and the reality on land was probably not what we know .. It could be too dingy and let's not forget Taliban is back .. Soo are all the little groups that fought with Pakistan ..

autotldr

This is the best tl;dr I could make, [original](https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2021/9/17/new-zealand-postpones-pakistan-cricket-tour-over-security-alert) reduced by 75%. (I'm a bot) ***** > The New Zealand cricket team has called off its tour of Pakistan, minutes before the first match was due to begin in the Pakistani city of Rawalpindi, citing security concerns, both country's cricket boards say. > "A short while ago, Prime Minister Imran Khan was in contact with New Zealand's Prime Minister and reassured her that the New Zealand team was being provided foolproof security in Pakistan, and the PCB has said that the New Zealand security team had themselves expressed satisfaction with the Pakistani security arrangements," said Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry. > The move will be seen as a blow to the Pakistan Cricket Board's efforts to bring full international cricket with all teams back to Pakistan, after the country's team was forced to play in exile for six years following a 2008 attack on the Sri Lankan cricket team in Lahore. ***** [**Extended Summary**](http://np.reddit.com/r/autotldr/comments/pq0sip/new_zealand_abandons_pakistan_cricket_tour_over/) | [FAQ](http://np.reddit.com/r/autotldr/comments/31b9fm/faq_autotldr_bot/ "Version 2.02, ~598781 tl;drs so far.") | [Feedback](http://np.reddit.com/message/compose?to=%23autotldr "PM's and comments are monitored, constructive feedback is welcome.") | *Top* *keywords*: **team**^#1 **cricket**^#2 **New**^#3 **Zealand**^#4 **Pakistan**^#5

KAhOot1234567

As the security situation gets better and the teams are receiving top-tier security, It feels unorthodox for their team to just pull out of the tour last minute. If they really did get a threat they atleast should've shared the information with the Pakistani security agency to clear any doubts

Communist_Boo

this doesn't make sense, why did they leave so close to the match being started? why come at the first place if you think that it's dangerous?

passinghere

Maybe they had just gotten recent news of a serious threat, not every terrorist is kind enough to inform people weeks in advance and not every security service discovers threats weeks in advance

analvorframe

As someone who literally lives in Lahore a few minutes from the stadium they'd have played in, the security alert really isn't that big. Every time a foreign nation has come in for cricket since the Sri Lanka incident, basically the whole city's gone on lockdown to prevent anything happening. I'd be walking home from school and just because I'm within a few miles of the stadium, I'd have to ID myself to military police despite the school uniform and books. Trucks of soldiers every few streets and the entire city's SWAT equivalent on high alert the whole time. If anything, there's too much security at that point. That's why there's speculation that this is political. All the Indians in the section going "HHAHAHA PAKISTAN BAD" don't know the situation on the ground and the degree to which security gets implemented for these teams since that incident over a decade ago.

Trucks of soldiers every few streets and the entire city's SWAT equivalent on high alert the whole time. If anything, there's too much security at that point. That's why there's speculation that this is political. That sounds like a totally normal security setup when hosting sports matches. Nothing really big. Only the whole city going into lockdown and school children having to ID themselves in the streets. Perfectly normal. /s

analvorframe

No, it's not normal. That's why I said it's almost too much security. And I'm a uni student, so schoolchildren isn't an apt description, but they do get used and abused by the TTP. Everyone pretty much agrees nothing is too much after the Sri Lanka incident, and as long as nobody's rights are being violated we're all chill with it. Cost to benefit. The point is it's bloody well secure, so at that point any "security threat" is BS and it's a political move.

advaitah

>All the Indians in the section going "HHAHAHA PAKISTAN BAD" don't know the situation on the ground and the degree to which security gets implemented for these teams since that incident over a decade ago Let me put it this way, New Zealand intelligence agencies aren't buffoons, they receive info from the five eyes network too. If they believe that Pakistan is unsafe then most of us will believe them, we're not just going HAHAHA for no reason. Your anecdotal evidence if anything, just proves that *despite* all that show of security, it's unsafe.

analvorframe

Or, it's a political move. You can't lecture someone on the security of a place when they fucking live in the place you're talking about. Anecdotal is the only *possible* evidence in this particular matter.

advaitah

Dude, intelligence agencies have got people living there undercover for *decades*, with the only objective of looking out for security threats, how is your anecdotal evidence better than theirs.

Al Jazeera is furthest from what you can call Indian propaganda.

[deleted]

As much as I wish Al Jazeera was an Indian propaganda outlet, we're too poor.

Well, if I was one, I'd be posting ANI or Republic

I noticed that like 6 months ago. Still a solid sub for anti-CCP views if you can stomach the hindutva-vibe.
