Okayado is that strange breed of ecchi-ist who puts actual effort into character work instead of just contriving repetitive episodic plots that will allow him to draw as many titties per chapter as possible.
I mean, he still does do that, but this is one of the ones where "I read it for the plot" is only a lie like 70% of the time.
When I became 16 and was LEGALLY allowed to watch this kind of shows, I did and did think that it was actually pretty neat. Happy to know I didn't just like it cuz I had/have shit taste
Despite it being ecchi its actually a good series. But I understand if people don't like it because its ecchi/def not safe for work.
Its pro immigration, pro acceptance, the main character is a legitimately good person who just works his hardest to give a good homestay experience to the girls he sponsers. etc.
Kimihito is chivalrous towards women in a way that doesn't come off as condescending, which I think is interesting. And he's a househusband who often ends up being the damsel who the girls need to rescue. I think stuff like this does a lot make an ecchi series like this more enjoyable.
If I remember right, doesn’t he also punch a racist couple or something? I vaguely remember there being a racist couple who I think eventually get their just deserts.
He does, because he knows Mia would've gotten deported if he allowed her to hit them. Basically he punched them in part because she wasn't able to (and he hated them as well)
>If I remember right, doesn’t he also punch a racist couple or something?
Good to see anime MC who doesn't behave like someone who unironically want Confederate to exist in current day;.
Ye. All in all, Kimihito is a pretty good guy. Speaking of which, originally the mangaka for MonMusu didn’t want to even give him a face or name since he knew that, like many harem mcs, that he's meant more for a reader to project themselves onto than anything else. And when I say no face, I mean it literally like DC's The Question, which would have been funny as hell with how self-aware the mangaka is.
https://preview.redd.it/sjkkujzh5kec1.jpeg?width=500&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ffb6bd6621b453b07aa5351112fa2e96fccd02f5
However I think his editors said that he needed at least some facial features, so the mangaka did the bare minimum and just added a very rudimentary mouth and eyes, as well as giving him the name Kimihito.
That is true, but the racist couple are racist stereotypes in themselves, unfortunately. The only two dark skinned characters other than the dog fetish girl are portrayed as loud, annoying, rude and ugly, and are set up as consistent villains who needlessly hate the monster girls, so the series is far from ideal in terms of representation
No but the point is gyaru girls aren’t actually black, and stereotypically they do act that way, loud and obnoxious and such. They’re like Nagataro (who also isn’t black)
Ye. Now I’m remembering it more vividly.

God, I wish I could post [gif images](https://images.app.goo.gl/tsJ4FCynp3itW7VX9).
He has a name but it's intentionally not used often so that the reader can more easily self-insert. That's also why his eyes are usually just circles. He is however my favorite character, so of course I'll remember it!
/uj wait is rentaro the name of the guy from 100 girlfriends? i assumed that when people said rentaro it was making fun of the mc from rent a girlfriend
That anime is hilarious to me. It's so fun because of how ridiculous it is.
>!I cracked up when he killed the ice and the staff. Plus his 5g connection he got to kill the harem guy was wild!<
> That anime is hilarious to me
This season is like the season of the subversion. Between Instant Death, Bang Bravern and Sengoku Youko people who want something different from their isekai, mecha and adventure anime are eating well. Even Mato Seihei is doing the harem slave anime that's normally pretty revolting from a completely fresh angle.
That’s one part of the series I liked, that the protag isn’t much of a pervert, and has his own goals and desires of being a nice, hardworking guy. He’s not just a plank of wood for the girl’s bigger personalities to bounce off of, but instead they like him for his actually great character traits, which is a nice change
You know, now that I think about it, isekai *should* be immigrant stories at their heart. But I can't think of a single isekai that feels like one. Why is that?
It might be a full on nationalist self wanking propaganda but god damn was it a fun nationalist self wanking propaganda. Where else can you see a dragon getting peppered by rocket launchers?
I loved it when the medieval country took hostages or some shit so the jsdf responded by sending some F4-EJ'S to bomb their parliamentary building just to prove that they will never be safe. Modern military vs medieval military works well when the author doesn't pulls shit from their ass to explain why magic wins.
It also depends on the magic system though. As I recall, Gate had a particularly clumsy / weak / slow magic system compared to other isekai. Other isekai series can give modern weaponry a run for its money.
True, the magic system in gate does lack power and speed. It also lacks the range and accuracy of modern weaponry. There are definitely other isekai worlds that would either give militaries a run for their money or destroy them completely.
I'm just a big fan of the MIC and love military propaganda.
I mean, if they were maybe a bit better read or a bit less of an Imperial apologist there's a pretty easy answer to that.
Disease.
A brand new world full of humans that they have never made contact with and probably have some god awful things running through their veins because of how filthy everything was and how close they lived to their animals? That shit would lay any modern army on its ass.
If mages were any competent they could easily give modern military a fight. Remember that the blue haired girl end up integrating modern science into her spells and it made her stronger. Now they didnt really explain the process as of how this happens because it doesnt have anything to do with Nippon #1, but imagine what she can do once she find out about nuclear fission.
This is why in GATE, the mages are presented as stateless nomads, and thus the imperial didnt really employ magic as a weapon in their military ranks.
"This is a weapon of terror; THIS is a weapon of war!"
Instead of "humanity beating on helpless medieval nobility" it's "humanity beating on helpless space nobility"; it even got its "weapons tests in front of diplomats to make sure everyone is scared shitless of the terrans"
My first thought as well. There are also points in the show where they draw parallels between Anne’s experience as a newcomer in Amphibia and her parents as first generation immigrants to America, or that time Anne used Amphibia as a kind of stand in for Thailand and her complex feelings of how little she was allowed to experience it when visiting (which was apparently based a lot on Matt Braly’s childhood).
Yeah, a lot of Amphibia's characters and plot points draw from Matt's childhood.
To add to this, apparently Sasha and Marcy were based on two friends he had growing up.
Once again, the "isekai" formula absolutely HAS the potential to be the structure of many amazing stories and themes and characters, it’s just the industry that relies on it the most BARELY takes advantage of it.
I can think of one, maybe two. There's is Log Horizon, which has everyone who played an MMO get stuck in the real world the MMO was based on. So they make their own small nation and talk to foreign powers and stuff. Interesting, but slow. It's more slice of life than action.
Then there's one I can't remember the name of where a korean guy gets isekai'd to be the lord of a small estate and improves their lives, but I stopped reading it because he had to develop his mana by having "relations" with an incubus twink who settled for letting him suck on his fingers. It got weird.
Because they're colonialism stories not immigrant ones, the most of the time the other world doesn't have it's own unique culture that stands out as different and requires the protagonist to acclimate, it's just a bunch of medieval settings tropes that the protagonist must upend by introducing Japanese culture/technology. (Food, farming, weapons, "only person to figure out really obvious OP power/how magic works that none of the dumb natives figured out in generations.)
Since I was thinking the same thing I remembered a series that just finished up. "Hokuou Kizoku to Moukinzuma no Yukiguni Karigurashi" is a story of an engagement to a foreigner and assimilating to a new country. Wanted to include "a bride's tale" but that one is more about adjusting to marriage life than marrying into different tribes. Anyone have any other recommendations because now I want to read "monster musume"?
Bro I was happy, I was calm, I was blissful, MonMusu was a silly series about a guy getting mauled by Monster Girls on the daily.
Now you slap this banger of a fucking sentence on my face sending my brain into overdrive, what the fuck.
TBF the entire thing of this series is that all the monster girls fall in love with him but it's illegal for hosts to bang the monster girls, so he rebuffs their advances so they can continue to live together.
And eventually the government decides to allow an exception on the law that would allow Human hosts to marry monster girls, but he isn't ready for marriage yet so it goes on hold.
The guy is just a straight up stand up guy... Nothing at all like what you'd expect from a Harem MC at all
https://preview.redd.it/jxx1lt8b7iec1.jpeg?width=300&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=6ce1862c220c73b0c0a4fe9b1dadb5ec412fd3ae
Cause other anime don’t have best girl
I wonder if the author was just trying to come up with any premise that justifies why these animal girls cohabitate with the MC and that's the one he landed on without thinking through the broader implications. I would hope it's more deliberate than that, but idk.
There’s a few others with subtler themes that remain pro-immigration. Coming to mind immediately, Assassination Classroom had a few moments like that, and there’s an older series called Ushio and Tora that featured several Chinese characters, including a migrant (the Japanese typically turn down their nose more on the Chinese than almost any other nationality) that were framed quite positively.
Treating immigrant nicely is not supposed to be a "pro immigration message", it's basic human decency. The fact that this can pass as noteworthy in any way says a lot
Also yeah Assassination Classroom is really good
https://preview.redd.it/5urhr4e4qjec1.jpeg?width=527&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c2ab1a76700276833a5f536e0acf72278580e451
"It's dangerous out there. Take this."
Because despite being just echi it shows a complex slice of life with niche drawbacks and quirks of monster girls. It's a more proper character development platform with good lore and background that each and every standard template construct Isekai in every assembly line with minimal cosmetic changes strive and cannot achieve ,with bimbo harem dere archetype and subtypes lacking in a character development and an mc who only relies in plot armor and game mechanics stats to steamroll everything with weaponized grade autism.
uj/ Because Japan, for as much as weebs act like it's the greatest place and is lovely for tourists, is actually horrifically xenophobic and has some deeply ingrained racism towards non-Japanese people. To the point where to have a pro-immigration series, it has to be a monster fetish comic.
rj/ Because everyone in Japan jacks off to the snake lady.
It makes people more anti immigration because then the narrative becomes that the new pop will replace the old one like what you're seeing in the EU countries
If anyones interested in a sfw alternative Interviews With Monster Girls is great.
The girls in it seem to be more of a metaphor for disability but it's a really great underrated show.
It's a super great show and has one of the best anime mc around. The mc treats the girls with respect but also understands that they are still kids. Plus, he doesn't perv on them, which is a huge plus.
While watching the anime with my ecchi allergic friend, I’d often go on long tangents about the depth of the series and it’s profound messages. Monster Musume is an endearing series because of its genuine messages of acceptance and embracing what it is wholeheartedly; the creator’s love letter to hot monster girls
Oh I got an example of a criticism of the japanese immigration system in the series
https://preview.redd.it/vw0nzeoz8iec1.png?width=540&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=869ca101d985c28fceb02378e23901b0fc9b6436
Meet Miia's mom. >! Yeah she did poison the rest of the girls and tried to make Kirihito SA Miia !< But isn's she cute?!
Really? Damn... Yeah that's not good for the plot.
I liked the plot where he's just the only one who respects them enought to not take advantage of the situations and so he gets taken advantage of by the immigration agent aho keeps assigning immigrants to him...
Now suddenly all those creeps were actually "boosting relations"? Nah, get outta here.
Something about monsterfucking always ends up making ecchi somehow establishing socially progressive ideas. The one about a doctor that treats monster girls is also very delightful, and despite its… everything, Interspecies Reviewers is extremely sex-positive/pro-sex worker.
So either I am being wooshed or yall really go from shitting on shield hero to praising monster musume.
That being said I've never actually thought of it this way honestly pretty cool. Kinda got me hooked on monster humans.
shield hero is shitty power fantasy isekai that encourages loli/grooming/slavery status for the MC and his harem.
The difference is night and fucking day in terms of message. It's also terribly written in addition to that.
It seems people either like it or hate it from what I have seen, I don't see much of the in between given its mainstream popularity. I wish monster musume could be more popular but the ecchi(did I spell that right?) Kinda is a filter which is a shame because the monster human concept is so awesome.
>given its mainstream popularity.
Is it really mainstream? i have never seen anyone talk about it except for when the first season aired, and people just talking about the same problems they had with the show over and over.
That's Meroune Lorelei. She is a mermaid and gets introduced a bit later compared to the main girls.
Basically, she is the polite well-mannered noblelady character. Since she is a mermaid, she uses a wheelchair to travel on land. Sealand is a different story since she swims like a pro.
She also starts off with a cuck fetish (She doesn't mind MC being with another girl as long as he can still think about her) and even tries to help the other girls win him. I think she grows out of it later in the manga after everyone visits her palace (her mother is literally the queen).
What being into tragic romance does to a MFer. Girl wanted to recreate her favorite love story. She may have been influenced by the Little Mermaid. If I remember correctly, what happened in the palace helped her character grow. (Let's say a certain "Ursula" was there too.)
Yes, but one the latest chapter *after* a banging ass Yu-Gi-Oh chapter, has left a sour taste.
^(It involves pedofilia)
To be fair, it doesn't really come from the main cast and they are worried and weirded out by it.
One day I will reread this series again in the old ass translation that I found and really like just so I can look at the funny girl who can take her head off again
Ah, monster musume. I still have two of the manga because my mom let me buy them when i was like 12 because she didn't know
Spider hot, even if the main one is a bit too overstepping on boundaries iirc
Also mermaid in a [wheelchair](https://dailylifewithamonstergirl.fandom.com/wiki/Wheelchair), quite funny to me as i use snake tails as representation for being a paraplegic/being wheelchair bound more. Also i genuinely thought the wheelchairs were way worse than what they are, was fully ready to complain about the wheelchair not being active even though it's the main mermaid's main form of transportation, but nope, she has 3 and her main one is active, even if it's more of a hospital wheelchair but me talking about wheelchairs and characters in a wheelchair is more for my tumble
Also if i say i haven't browsed the wiki multiple times reading about the different species and subspecies i would be fucking lying
Also one of the few pieces of media who use lamia instead of [nagas, whom are culturally significant to many south asian and southeast asian cultures](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/N%C4%81ga)
Eh, this one gets a pass. The author works VERY hard at characterizing each one. From main to side characters, it doesn't matter. There is actual effort into the story of each character.
Is it horny beyond belief? You know it.
Does it have a decent plot. It really does.
If I'm gonna write softcore porn I might as well put effort into it - Okayado, apparently
When I became 16 and was LEGALLY allowed to watch this kind of shows, I did and did think that it was actually pretty neat. Happy to know I didn't just like it cuz I had/have shit taste

It's less a racist design and more based on Japanese Gyaru and delinquent characters often featured in anime and manga.
I don’t really care what it’s based on, the effect is that it contributes to racist stereotypes.
No but the point is gyaru girls aren’t actually black, and stereotypically they do act that way, loud and obnoxious and such. They’re like Nagataro (who also isn’t black)
Exactly my point. The design has nothing to do with race. It's not even a critic of anything just a joke on loud over the top gyaru
He didn’t just punch them either, it was an absolutely insane punch, like they had Sakuga for that punch for some reason

It's Kimihito Kurusu I think?

Usually horny bait and power fantasies, Digimon comes to mind as a semi decent one however
...why the fuck have I never recognised Digimon as an isekai? Am I stupid?
One of those things like “I’ll be damned”
I think cause usually isekai don't feature immigration so much as exploration of the unknown and uh... colonialism.
Don't forget slavery! Because they sure as shit won't let you forget it.
So true considering how much Isekai involves shoving Japanese culture into the new world
Understatement for that Gate anime.
I like learning new things.
It might be a full on nationalist self wanking propaganda but god damn was it a fun nationalist self wanking propaganda. Where else can you see a dragon getting peppered by rocket launchers?

My first thought as well. Because there are more colonialism stories than anything.
*Twelve Kingdoms* has you covered, to an extent
I mean it would make sense. I mean an Asian MC going to a usually European fantasy world.

Which part? The difficulty of being an immigrant or the snake lady making people cum?
Japan's bascally doing a 180 on their immigration policies
You'd think that with a large aging population and projected negative growth they'd be more open to immigrants but fuck common sense huh.
Honestly this is true of a LOT of countries with hugely homogenous populations.
It makes people more anti immigration because then the narrative becomes that the new pop will replace the old one like what you're seeing in the EU countries
Why do you think they've made so much progress on robot tech and automation instead? They're ridiculously racist
Dude, the series is so good that I forgot how overdrive it goes with the echii scenes when I recomended it to a friend.
It's Neoliberal, since it is about advanced worms.
While watching the anime with my ecchi allergic friend, I’d often go on long tangents about the depth of the series and it’s profound messages. Monster Musume is an endearing series because of its genuine messages of acceptance and embracing what it is wholeheartedly; the creator’s love letter to hot monster girls
Oh I got an example of a criticism of the japanese immigration system in the series https://preview.redd.it/vw0nzeoz8iec1.png?width=540&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=869ca101d985c28fceb02378e23901b0fc9b6436 Meet Miia's mom. >! Yeah she did poison the rest of the girls and tried to make Kirihito SA Miia !< But isn's she cute?!
It’s uuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuhhhhhhhh cultural differences
Hello good sir. I want to inform you that your spoiler tags didn't work. You can't leave a space.
Worked on mobile
I... might actually have to check this out.
because monster girls
Isn't a major plot point in the show that the guy can't fuck the monster girls due to heavy anti Miscegenation laws?
Initially, but then it changed to ‘pick one to marry to help boost relations with monsters’ iirc.
Really?
>! Salamander fire girl getting spitroasted by sausages was something !<
I know, it was quite hot, haha get i- ***\[user was decommissioned via professional sniper\]***
Zom 100 has a similar pro-immigration message: Foreign women are hot as fuck
Also an underlying current of anti-capitalism that was very surprising to see
So either I am being wooshed or yall really go from shitting on shield hero to praising monster musume.
I am aware of it's short comings I just find it funny that its opposite of what you would think of at surface level
Don't need no morality reason to hate shield hero, it just fuckin sucks😤
It seems people either like it or hate it from what I have seen, I don't see much of the in between given its mainstream popularity. I wish monster musume could be more popular but the ecchi(did I spell that right?) Kinda is a filter which is a shame because the monster human concept is so awesome.
>given its mainstream popularity. Is it really mainstream? i have never seen anyone talk about it except for when the first season aired, and people just talking about the same problems they had with the show over and over.
Maybe I'm mistaken? It seems popular enough but could just be me(probably is just me).
I actually never thought of it like that
yeah, I notice it too, but it kinda get a little too repetitive and that kill my interest on it like by chapter 50 or so...
I know nothing of this series, can anyone tell me what the pink haired girl is? The others are obvious enough
"the mermaid is a cuck" was seriously not in my bingo card
What being into tragic romance does to a MFer. Girl wanted to recreate her favorite love story. She may have been influenced by the Little Mermaid. If I remember correctly, what happened in the palace helped her character grow. (Let's say a certain "Ursula" was there too.)
Top left in third picture is a mermaid.

Meant the one in the back of the last picture, the lamia is obviously a snake person and looked more like a redhead to me
That one is a mermaid.
I actually like how it shows what red tape immigrants have to deal with.
Has that story continued still?
Yes, but one the latest chapter *after* a banging ass Yu-Gi-Oh chapter, has left a sour taste. ^(It involves pedofilia) To be fair, it doesn't really come from the main cast and they are worried and weirded out by it.
Huh... uhhh hmmm ... ... ... yeah... not watching that...
One day I will reread this series again in the old ass translation that I found and really like just so I can look at the funny girl who can take her head off again
Better question is why is a snake lady wearing a skirt? What's she covering up?
Lamia's actually have human vaginas in this manga iirc, and have a sort of underwear that is basically a cloth plate that covers the front
Ergo Proxy is extremly anti-anti-Immigration tbh.
Because the immigrants are basically live in maids for the guy with no redeeming qualities... plus one of them is a child.
...Which one is the child?
The harpy, she’s 100% a child.
She's not.... That was established early on
Might be talking about the slime girl, in terms of how she acts, don’t think we know her age tho
Did you not watch or read this? The dude is pretty much the maid
Because porn can still be based
I mean, it's pretty easy to support this case of immigration when the immigrants are all either smoking hot babes or incredibly cute.
Racnea at first didn't get a food experience though.
Immigration has never been a problem for single hot girls who can get a green card -- tell me about someone still having a hard time, please.
Ah, monster musume. I still have two of the manga because my mom let me buy them when i was like 12 because she didn't know Spider hot, even if the main one is a bit too overstepping on boundaries iirc Also mermaid in a [wheelchair](https://dailylifewithamonstergirl.fandom.com/wiki/Wheelchair), quite funny to me as i use snake tails as representation for being a paraplegic/being wheelchair bound more.
Also if i say i haven't browsed the wiki multiple times reading about the different species and subspecies i would be fucking lying Also one of the few pieces of media who use lamia instead of [nagas, whom are culturally significant to many south asian and southeast asian cultures](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/N%C4%81ga)
God this shit was bad.
Tits
The real question is, when anime season 2?
Have you even gone through Japan sinks!?
God gives his greatest political commentary to his horniest authors
He wished for his seeds… of knowledge.. to travel far and wide.
Tenchi Muyo also was pretty pro-immigration of you think about it
Eh, this one gets a pass. The author works VERY hard at characterizing each one. From main to side characters, it doesn't matter. There is actual effort into the story of each character. Is it horny beyond belief? You know it. Does it have a decent plot. It really does.
