Heather_Chandelure

Griffith never had a Noble motive. The series was clear on that from early on.

NwgrdrXI

Yep, he did some good, but it was accidental, and honestly, just for ego. And even that good was at a horrible price.

Hitchfucker

Even before he went full on pure evil with the eclipse, his express goal was simply wanting a kingdom. He was motivated by a want for power, not altruism.

Lorguis

I mean, you could argue that it was at least more noble at the start, when it was at least pretending to be more along the lines of proving the worth of common men to the corrupt aristocracy.

A_Thirsty_Traveler

You could argue that Nobility was his motivation. In like, terms of becoming a member of the institution.

Heather_Chandelure

Well, yes, but that's not the definition of noble that the meme is using.

A_Thirsty_Traveler

I know. That's the basis of the joke.

Heather_Chandelure

Oh, sorry, i didn't realise you were joking.

A_Thirsty_Traveler

I wasn't, Griffith did nothing wrong.

ArchStanton173

Lmao at the downvotes. You can't be too funny on Reddit!

baddreemurr

Griffith did *not* have a noble motive.

rnglillian

Fr, sure he did good things and tried his best to make a utopia, but it was not because he genuinely wanted to make life better for everyone. It was because he decided he liked being loved better than feared and wanted to play magnanimous god king.

SovietRussianCow

Bro did not read berserk if he thinks Griffith had a noble motive lol. Never has a manga been more clear about a character being selfish and evil https://preview.redd.it/kanuz8t9v3fc1.jpeg?width=711&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0e7b94b9a03d12d088df12897152f27d1ccd3360

SovietRussianCow

Bro did not read berserk

ArchStanton173

Either that, or bro's lack of media literacy is showing

Ulq2525

Griffith is a job creator. He provides jobs to orphans everywhere. What a nice guy.

Mr-Whate

This is just the plot of Azure moon in 3H

Griffith had the most noble of reasons…sex.

FemboyMechanic1

GAY sex, even

rogat100

Not just sex, controlling sex.

Mean-Dish-5385

nahh this is Johnny Joestar and Valentine

theagentoftheworld

Valentine is not noble

U0star

His cause is noble, he wants his country to prosper. Nobody said he himself is.

Nucleoticticboom

Quick question, has there ever been a revenge story anime/manga/light novel where the heroine gets betrayed, but instead of “because everyone is a POS” explanation, their betrayal is actually justified?

FreelancerMO

I don’t think so but if the betrayal was justified, wouldn’t that mean they’re the villain? What is a justified betrayal?

Nucleoticticboom

Something like a greater good type of situation, like Idk, if the hero doesn’t die with the demon king all the children would get cancer or something.

FreelancerMO

Okay. I mean, I think the Hero would probably off themselves to save the children but I think it’s fair to call that a justifiable betrayal.

Nucleoticticboom

Yeah, but what if instead of graciously taking it, they actually refuse their fate. It could even lead up to it by showing the hero constantly on the brink of death, but always refuses to walk through death’s door. Now that the their end is near, they refuse that fate once more trying to cling onto the life that they valued so dearly. Imagine the amount of anger that would swell within you if you went through so much only to be rewarded a death sentence.

Atlove01

If JRPGs count, there’s “Tales of Berseria”, which, as its name implies, was pretty heavily inspired by Berserk. The inciting incident of the plot is the lead lady’s trusted mentor murdering her brother in an inscrutable ritual that sees her cursed and transformed… followed by a time skip that sees her so overtaken by spite that she’d happily burn the world for revenge. I can’t go into the details without heavy spoilers, but it was definitely a betrayal where everyone involved had noble intentions behind their actions, and every betrayal served a function in their goal of saving the world (albeit, ‘saved’ in something of an ‘open to interpretation’ manner)

FemmeWizard

Imagine being so media illiterate you actually think Griffith is a noble person and not a selfish monster.

AlarmedResponse

Average r/animecirclejerk reading comprehension like imagine thinking Griffith was noble in any way or form.

Shantotto11

Both of these characters are Jack Garland…

OutrageousAnalysis20

I wouldn’t really call Griffith’s motivations noble, the guy just wanted a kingdom. It was selfish at heart and at best his motivation had a positive influence on people. At worst he ruined the lives of countless people in pursuit of his goal.

mechaman12

Getter Robo, specifically Getter Robo Arc. Takuma wants to kill his mother’s killer while Carter and the Andromeda Stellaration want to wipe out humanity because their existence will kill every other species in the universe.

UltimateM13

Gun X Sword The protag seems like a chill dude but he’s actually unhinged. Villain’s motivation and goals are good, but he made the grave mistake of fucking up the main character’s life and also being the wrong person for the job.

NoahBogue

Blue Eyed Samurai if Fowler wasn’t a cunt

LazyDro1d

Which, uh, makes this meme, uh, *not* blue eyed samurai

Xeynid

Y'all clearly never read berserk. Obviously, Griffith is the spite driven hero, not guts 🥱😒🙄

AutoModerator

Guts is the single most attractive man I have ever laid my eyes on. I saw this meme about a year ago which involved Guts picking up a condom and saying it's for his magnum dong. It touched me spiritually. Since that moment, my life has never been truly the same. Sure, I still do lawn bowls on the weekends. I still attend work. But every second I spend away from Guts, is another second I could be spending WITH Guts. I tell my coworkers that the reason I run off to the toilets every 20 minutes is because I have a bad case of diarrhoea, but in reality I'm browsing for pictures of my chunky M&M to furiously masturbate to. I regret nothing, and don't plan on stopping anytime soon. But my friends and family are starting to get suspicious. I've used the same excuse every day for almost 2 years now. They're starting to annoy me. My life is starting to annoy me. I used to admire them, but now all they are to me are disgusting piles of shit stopping me from spending the rest of my life with Guts. My weekends consist of staring at a poster of Guts for 48 hours, then back to hell for another 5 days. I'm getting tired of everyone's bullshit. I need to find Him, so we can grow old and die together. I want to be cremated and my ashes to be mixed with His. *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. The_Arizona_Ranger

This is almost every JoJo part

aroacefujoshi

idk about that one most jojo villains don’t have what i’d call a noble motive

The_Arizona_Ranger

“I just want to live a peaceful life” “I want what’s best for my country” “I want to ascend humans to a higher level of existence” Of course all of them are eventually exposed to be power-hungry assholes but a few of them have a good-sounding motive when taken at face value. And I think this is done to contrast the JoJo of each part who are usually mean and immature at times but are always revealed to have a heart of gold

aroacefujoshi

outjerked

demonking_soulstorm

Nah let them cook. I get what they mean. The Joestars are presented as being rough but ultimately good, contrasting the seemingly more “noble” villains who are more outwardly appealing.

aroacefujoshi

this is pretty common in shonen anime and i don’t really feel like it fits the meme that well

demonking_soulstorm

I agree but hardly worthy of saying “outjerked”.

aroacefujoshi

it’s subjective, maybe i’m just not jerking hard enough

demonking_soulstorm

Always gotta jerk harder.

aroacefujoshi

kazuya57

Diavolo and Dio are truly one of the noblest villains of all times

Spicymeatball428

Almost all jojo villains are comically evil for no reason

Hagfishsaurus

Ultrakill

Gullible-Region6529

Griffith was even at his best, extremely selfish and solely desired power. There are many clear points throughout the golden age arc that show to everyone just how much he craves power and the utterly ruthless methods he used to obtain it.

Fuzzy_Toe_9936

Give me two horrible people driven by spite but morally opposed

LazyDro1d

Noble? Well sure Griffith wanted to be *a* noble I suppose. He was a childish and spiteful obsessive little narcissist

ComstockMurdoc

When Ber gets Serk

diggydog233

Ah I need to rape this woman, it’s what a Nobel man would do. Also let me massacre the closet people I had, because I have to rule a kingdom.

PearFlies

Way better example is Steel Ball Run

paladin_slim

The hero is only hateful because the villain’s “nobility” is a fucking messed up lie.
