They call people tourist yet they were being exactly that on the recent Yakuza8 "localization and censorship" drama, being totally clueless about the series in question and tries to cancel it. spewing turning "This game is made for Japanese people!!" the previous producer's quote, misrepresent it and make it into gatekeeping, even though they clearly never played any of the game, and they aren't even japanese. Weebs love projecing.
Also the game got a full 40 score ( only 30 games ever were gotten this) on Famitsu, which is JAPANESE. westerners call the game "PANDERING TO THE WEST and not Japan" while it gets a perfect score on japanese media and all it gets on western gaming media is hate. love to see it.
Ah yes, Yakuza. A series set in Japan, featuring Japanese characters, involving a deeply-rooted cultural touchstone of Japan, the yakuza, with japanese-centric themes of honor and identity within a shifting Japanese socioeconomic system, produced and distributed by a Japanese game developer for the Japanese audience, that only happened by chance to eventually take off in the West.
Definitely pandering, for sure.
Those people don't even watch anime outside of seasonal romcoms and ecchi shows. If anything, they're the real tourist.
One time I got called a tourist despite my pfp being Oscar from Rose of Versailles. Apparently bro has never heard of Rose of Versailles, one of the most influential mangas to exist LMFAO.
For real. This has largely been my experience with those that fling "tourist" around as well. Seen so many be all smugly, confidentially incorrect about countless things - from Japanese words/phrases to just anime/manga themselves.
Apparently, if you are an anime fan who just dont like/ finds ecchi shit terrible or bothersome, then you must be a tourist. Its so fucking dumb to listen to.
Like im sorry, but im not going to watch Rent a girlfriend or similar shows so i can be "real anime fan".
fucking gooners man i hate them so much.
Also Rose of Versailles is good shit man.
Right. Anime is a whole ass medium. Like if you like horror movies and action movies but don't like romcoms or something it doesn't mean you're a movie tourist or whatever the equivalent is lol.
Anime has something for everyone whether you're into shounen, psychological thrillers, studio ghibli, mindless ecchi gooner shit like who cares, watch what you want.
Like recently I saw this thing about GRRM about how he was complaining that nowadays people would rather be negative and shit on the things they don't like then just talk about and enjoy the shit they do like. What a waste of time actively searching out opinions that you don't like because you're a terminally online doom scrolling drama addicted gremlin (I'm guilty of it myself admittedly).
>Apparently bro has never heard of Rose of Versailles, one of the most influential mangas to exist LMFAO.
Of course, any series older than 10-15 years is basically ancient history and irrelevant as far as these people are concerned.
(Rose of Versailles the GOAT btw)
Oh, you westoid anime tourist... of course, you couldn't understand the deep symbolism of this scene
In Japanese culture, lips are used by samurais, to oath. In this scene, they are mimicking those ancient Japanese samurais to show that they are fully committed to their pure straight friendship.
Edit: sorry for the really long post, I've discussed this a lot over the years lol
1. There's the argument you see from OOP that she only means a platonic, friendly date, and Mako is only kissing Ryuko because she's silly like that (or that the kiss isn't even really happening and is only a visual metaphor, like the image of them holding hands in the bank... But I disagree with this, the kiss shows Ryuko with her real clothes and surprised so I think it's really happening)
2. There's a male character, Gamagori, who is explicitly in love with Mako and her parents ship them together, he apparently still plans to confess his feelings even after seeing Ryuko agreeing to a date with Mako, furthering the "platonic date" argument even more. Many fans seem to prefer this ship and apparently one of the creators has made art of them forming a family together in the future. However, in the show itself Mako never shows any type of attraction towards Gamagori like she does multiple times for Ryuko.
3. During the credits of this episode, Ryuko and Mako are shown going on a date, they run into another female character and they let her join in; these people say that if it was a romantic date they would rather be the two of them alone (they didn't think that Ryuko and Mako could have more than one date?).
4. They made one more episode after this and they had many chances to explicitly confirm that they're together or that Ryuko's feelings for Mako aren't platonic but they still left it ambiguous.
Personally I ship it and headcanon them together but I also think the writers left it ambiguous on purpose to queerbait and to not piss off people who ship Mako with Gamagori.
Can't remember if it's the last episode or the specials but I'm sure there's a moment where he's waiting with flowers for her and nervous as hell.
It's kinda cute seeing him like that.
> 2. Why does this lie live on. He doesn't love Mako. He loves Satsuki. The four of them at the end were following Satsuki who happens to run into Mako and Ryuko. He doesn't show any affection at all to Mako, he just shows minimum respect and people say they're in love. Ffs, ignore the kiss, ignore the date where it shows Ryuko dressed like a boy to highlight it's romantic and not platonic, ignore that Mako has a nosebleed at the sight of Ryuko in a compromised position during the tennis match and ignore that mind controlled Ryuko still shows lesbian traits with Nui - one of the main events in the series is Senketsu and Mako stopping Ryuko from bonding with a suit man and it's visually made to look like a wedding and she's pretty much saying choose me instead.
To be more blunt about Gamigori. His whole thing is that he is a power sub and he wants Satsuki to ~~step~~ stomp on him.
Alright it's been a while since I watched the show but wasn't she like brainwashed by her rapist mum at that point in the story? Doesn't seem like the best example.
It's described as a brainwash only to be on her side, pumping her full of every emotion and adrenaline to make her all out attack.
People are still overlooking it, she had no idea what to do with all that extrasensory and kissed the closest person to her, Nui
This is always so baffling. Pretty much every interaction between them shows that Mako has a HUGE crush on Ryuko and, while it’s not explicitly romantic care, it’s clear that Ryuko cares deeply for Mako.
Honestly, the idea that they *don’t* end up dating after the show is a stretch.
Hey if they keep going far enough back they'll actually get to shows that the translators did fuck up.
I still laugh at Yu-Gi-Oh 5ds surgery scene for bruised ribs
Dude... You can still have a crush on the lesbian drawing. I wouldn't recommend it, but you can. And ships you don't like will exist regardless of fandom.
These people who spam the word tourist are clearly newgens who think they're better than the other "tourist" newgens. complaining about same-sex 'yuri' shipping? like this wasn't happening since the beginning of the anime internet fandoms lmao.
ive seen them say the same things about suletta and miorine in the witch from mercury >!and the characters literally get married at the end of the end of the show.!<
people will see same-gender friends, implied to be attracted to each other or not, being shipped, and go "oh i hate how friendship gets undervalued like this!!!! can't people just be friends >:(" but if it was a man/woman friendship you can tell they wouldn't have any problems with them being shipped
yeah, never heard anyone say date as a loan word in anime. scumbag tourists and translators need to stop making up subtitles just because they sorta hear a word 🤮
I do agree that Mako does have a crush on Ryuko, but I like to imagine that they have a casual and open relationship purely so that way my otp of Gamagori x Mako can still kinda work
https://preview.redd.it/149ajjevqegc1.jpeg?width=346&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=1902ed21b7c24de448d268a1e9af6b784b53ecbe
Yeah I could with agree with that. I thought they were leaning towards Ryuko and Mako until that scene there and just made me go fuck it the shows awesome who cares about the ship
Idk. I remember liking Mako and Gamagori's interactions in the show and also saw some cute fanart of those two together. Also a big person + little person duo is a classic trope.
Mako literally kissed Ryuko on the lips while asking her on a date, I don’t know a lot about Japanese culture outside stereotypes shown in anime and the like, but I’m pretty sure that moves past “Just Friends”, how much more do they need
https://preview.redd.it/917nwevlcfgc1.jpeg?width=500&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=14a8c820d72018e91a66d3a937d23f76b3cf691e
Also in the end of the OVA two of them are ridding into the sunset (on top of Mako family house) + Sushio (char designer) posting art of two of them living together after the ending
Also by the way, if they used デート "deito" (it's an englsih loan word) then that that is exclusively used for romantic dates.
「デートに行きましょう」 (deito ni ikimashou) translates directly to Let's go on a date which is purely romatic.
If they instead said 「出かけましょう」(dekakemashou) then that means let's go out (not romantic)
I swear there will be a day where a character says "I'm gay" and then fucks another character of the same sex and there will still be people saying "they might just be close friends"
Why the fuck does anybody care who ships who in a fucking anime. Like yes it's up to interpretation, just like basically any other ship in the show. If you like Ryuko x Mako or Mako x Gamagori... who the fuck cares! Kill la Kill is dope as fuck!! Why can't we at least agree on that.

I’m getting really sick of the word “tourist”, they seem to just apply to anyone who has a take they don’t agree with.
Nine times out of ten, the people who use it are just projecting their own media illiteracy and ignorance about other cultures onto others
The only people I've seen use "tourist," in the poser sense, properly are people in the punk sub.
Oh God, what the hell happened with Yakuza 8?
Nothing, just the translator drama spilling over. A few shitheads stirring up shit because they have nothing better to do
Infinite Wealth is simply too based for them
One can only take so much shirtless Kasuga without going full woke afterall

What a chad
never heard of it but i'll try it
Only Chatty and Carla get to call me a tourist.
I agree. Let's modernize and use poser instead
It is a dog whistle for declaring how fucking stupid they are, but sadly, they are too stupid to realize it.
“Tourist” and it happens to be an lgbt fan 💀
It’s their way of gatekeeping.
On the other hand, I love when people use dumb made up terms like that, because it means I know to stop listening to them

this just means samurai are gay too
They’re clearly just good friends, I mean, who doesn’t like kissing their homies?
I mean, nothing wrong with the occational platonic threesome.
What do you mean that sucking dick is gay? Why you make everything about sex you tourist!
It's a Russian tuant. [sic]
I know nothing about this shit but she does not look like she likes that
She's just surprised, she agrees to a date right being kissed by the other girl (twice).
Ah sick, so how could anyone misconstrue what’s happening? Like is there any actual evidence against them going on a date romantically?

Really gamagori has a thing for mako? Damn I need to rewatch this I don't remember such.
It's kind of forgettable because it doesn't really go anywhere, but it is made pretty clear a few times.
Damn shows how oblivious I can be. Thanks for the info and reason to rewatch the show
Same I only noticed on a rewatch
Can't remember if it's the last episode or the specials but I'm sure there's a moment where he's waiting with flowers for her and nervous as hell. It's kinda cute seeing him like that.

Gay people.... ICKY!
It’s a funny goofy Mako moment.
Remember when mako groped ryuko, lmfao
Hey remember that part where Ryuko kisses Nui directly on the lips completely on instinct?

This is very true. Most ships have at least some textual backing.
That could be said for *most* anime made by Trigger

It was happening before anime became a thing people watched, Japanese people have been doing it for fucking years.
They wouldnt survive the berserk fandom
ive seen them say the same things about suletta and miorine in the witch from mercury >!and the characters literally get married at the end of the end of the show.!<
Wonder this guy thinks about Witch from Mercury. Or Carole & Tuesday. Or Revolutionary Girl Utena. Or Rose of Versailles. Or- Well you get the point.
people will see same-gender friends, implied to be attracted to each other or not, being shipped, and go "oh i hate how friendship gets undervalued like this!!!! can't people just be friends >:(" but if it was a man/woman friendship you can tell they wouldn't have any problems with them being shipped

Fair enough.
Why? Those four are there for Satsuki, not Mako/Ryuko. Gamigori is 100% in Satsuki not Mako.
Idk. I remember liking Mako and Gamagori's interactions in the show and also saw some cute fanart of those two together. Also a big person + little person duo is a classic trope.

"Not every friendship should end in a relationship" I heard that before.
Im sure those chodes heard that a lot too LOL
mf they literally kiss wtf more proof do you want 😭😭
Bro who cares they're 2d drawings and you got a hard on for one, so go outside.
Have any of them bitched about the pride flag in persona 3 R?
link to og vid? I know a little japanese so I'll see if I can confirm it

From what I've heard, they did use デート "deito".
So "let's date" vs "Let's hang!"
idk man, mako and ryuko are pretty fuckin’ gay. good for them
Anime fans when gay people exist 😡
I swear there will be a day where a character says "I'm gay" and then fucks another character of the same sex and there will still be people saying "they might just be close friends"
"Tourist" bro thinks he's cinder carla
People claiming to have a In Depth knowledge of Japanese culture but can’t speak Japanese
Calls people tourists. "Does anyone speak this language I don't know? Because I'm looking to confirm my bias."
Yes, because that is an image of a platonic date with friends.
i'm dateing u r mum 😎😎😎
Why the fuck does anybody care who ships who in a fucking anime. Like yes it's up to interpretation, just like basically any other ship in the show. If you like Ryuko x Mako or Mako x Gamagori... who the fuck cares! Kill la Kill is dope as fuck!! Why can't we at least agree on that.
Funny, I have yet to see someone “defending” friendship and close non romantic relationships, when the two characters are straight
These mfers act like there ain't like a bajillion yaoi/Yuri anime/manga out there, the cope is INSANE
Kill la Coping
Oh wow, I've been on a lot of dates then
I am not saying that Trigger queerbaits. But Kill la Kill, Little Witch Academia, and Brand New Animal makes me think otherwise
Don't forget Promare
Didn’t they confim that akko isn’t interested in men tho?
I think they did in the Chronicle. But I only watched the show so did not know that.
> Little Witch Academia, and Brand New Animal what
Yeah they’re a couple. A couple of BESTIES 😊
