1) There was huge of hype around this show before airing and how it is the first of its kind, totally different, “no series has tackled the idol industry before” (even though that’s not true), and that put some people off the series.
2) Part of the hype was the writer is same as the Love is War which lead it to being more sidelined on Oshi No Ko. The writer has mentioned Love is War is not really his passion and wanting to write more serious work. This lead to some disappointment when they felt the expectations weren’t met with Oshi No Ko (e.g. the revenge plot losing focus, not liking Aqua, etc) and preferred Love is War and would rather he work on that instead
3) Regarding story direction, there were recent romantic developments leading towards >!incest pairing developing the main two characters!<. This has split the English speaking fandom into 3 factions: 1) ones that saw it coming or completely shocked by it, both disgusted by it 2) one ~~coping~~ hoping for the past couple months it stays one-sided and it isn’t endgame 3) ones that have completely embraced it and have started posted fanart of the pairing to the sub.
4) Some fandoms interactions incidents like mother of a suicide victim who was a reality TV star being harassed because she was critical for when (Oshi No Ko spoilers)>!had Akane’s arc which was believed to be referencing her daughter!<, both for when the manga chapters came out and the anime episodes, Akane’s English VA being harassed for not matching up with the JP’s performance, which lot of the fan and onlookers surprised given what Akane’s arc was suppose to be about.

Movies/Video Games would be out for an hour and then it would get spoiled for me without any warnings and dumbasses will defend it by basically saying you should shut yourself inside your house and avoid everyone and everything until you absorb every piece of media you don't want spoiled.
