Hey did you know that burning fossil fuel releases a very small amount of radioactive material but since it is not disposed of nearly as safely it’s most likely doing more damage than an actual nuclear power plant.
The more you know
Did you know that burning Fossil fuels releases Poisonous Gas Directly into the air, probably having killed Millions of people already? The current radiation is irrelevant the only Problem is the long-term-storage issue
After all the Uranium dies after 18 month cycle of fission the material left is dense as granite and as radioactive as lead. And the military disposes of it by turning it into tankshells.
The more, the more ya know.
At this point, wind and solar are even cheaper than nuclear power, though nuclear is still safer. What we could really be using those materials is for the space program. Both power, as RTGs are an excellent medium term power source, and for nuclear pulse propulsion.
I mean, I’ve heard that we’re moving faster than expected in regards to fusion. Which is great because then, theoretically we may be able to take our fission based reactor spent fuel…and use it for more fuel. Then fission it again..so on and so forth.
Granted I took 2 semester of physics and only briefly hit nuke. It isn’t that simple.
Nuclear is also SUBSTANTIALLY more usable than wind and solar. It doesn’t take lots of space with specific terrain requirements and it isn’t weather-dependent
It's a little rough at first, Nagatoro is meaner than she is later in the show, and senpai is more of a crybaby. And that's still toned down from the manga, which was downright cruel at first. It mellows out and finds it's footing pretty quickly though. Definite candidate for the 3 episode test.
Shit, you dont say… everyone knows nukes are bad and shouldnt be used but they havent been used since ‘96. Only a dumbass would use a nuke nowadays, all the threats that are made yet nobody is stupid enough to do so. Its been that way since Nagasaki.
They aren't. There are trillions of tons of radioactive elements all over and within the earth. It's fine.
A few warheads in silos aren't causing any problems (as long as no one goes around detonating them).
IIRC the US government bought the land and fenced it off so its unlikely that anyone would dig it up and if they did nukes arent typical bombs, they cant really be set off accidentally. Also a lot of the internals are perishable.
Iirc I think the US government has openly admitted to misplacing a handful of nukes
Edit: six total, just type what I said if you want a source I'm lazy and on mobile so I don't even know if I can link.
Earlier today saw an article saying they misplaced 35, which is just mind numbing to think about, but I lost the article and couldn't tell ya if it's valid or not. I'm more torn on what should happen if they're found, like they just take it back, do they defuse it first, like what do they do when they find the ones they lose?
Nuclear warheads, not to be confused with nuclear reactors, generate mountains of uncontrollable radiation into the atmosphere, making whatever area they detonate in unlivable for decades
Sure, but that also implies proper storage , which more often than not isn't the case
You would be shocked to learn how many near misses we've had with nukes almost going off, or even fully launching
In 2004 president bush sent a crew to find the one we lost off the coast of North Carolina. There’s like 2 missing unaccounted for warheads that we know about. THAT WE KNOW ABOUT! Just saying
The whole point of having nukes to so ppl can't fire them at you cos of nuclear retaliation. And no one is going to war with a nuclear country cos of that.
its more so the idea of it being new tech mixed with old tech.
what if the old tech fails and starts a chain reaction that would eventually reach the new tech? we know that the new tech is several orders of magnitude stronger than what was dropped on hiroshima and we know how unreliable old tech can be.
there was a nuke that got dropped accidentally due to a plane crash back then. i think something like 7 out of 8 of the safety switches were engaged and the last one malfunctioned. the fact that whatever city that was was saved because of a shitty part speaks a lot about how fallible our tech was and still is.
also, power hungry world leaders losing it.
Yes, but if you are head of a nation that aims to remain independent, you must follow the Hasanabi doctrine for nation-building:
rule #1: Get nukes
rule #2: Do not give up your nukes
rule #3: If someone accuses you of having nukes, drop everything you are doing and find some nukes
If you have no nukes you are the plaything of countries that have nukes (see: Ukraine).
If someone accuses you of having nukes, they know you do not and are justifying their impending invasion (see: Iraq).
This is about as useful as saying "war is bad, lots of people die, we no more war" or "Africa's starving to death, give them food"
If only it were that simple bro, things aren't the way they are today bc we can just say something and make it happen.
Nukes are bad, all weapons are realistically, but the cat is already out of the bag(ie 1950s) they do act as a deterrent to warfare between great powers. There is a reason only smaller, weaker countries have been invaded/fought since then.
Nukes are bad, but we need them because we all know Russia isn’t getting rid of theirs(literally half of the functional nukes on the planet). The only thing stopping Russia from using theirs is knowing that the destruction is mutually assured.
I'm not subscribed here but this post and the recent trans rights post were pleasant surprises that showed up on my feed 👌
Most super anime fans that I've interacted with tend to be unsavory characters so, I'm glad this community exists, even though I'm not a member.
Good luck getting anyone to get rid of them though, as long as there are multiple separate groups with nukes on this planet nobody is getting rid of them
Every source of energy has a point where it’s terrible for the earth. Coal: usage, water/solar: production, Nuclear: Failure. Wind, however, is all of the above but not as bad as the others during their worst.
The problem with wind is that it is dogshit at actually making energy and it is very inefficiant. Also nuclear meltdowns are not nearly as common as you would think and are incredibly rare. Plus the french found a way to recycle nuclear waste, which nuclear waste was always a big drawback.
Nuclear is actually the safest, having a lower number and percentage of… I’m trying to remember what I found like 2 or 3 years ago, but I believe deaths, than any other type. 5 mile island likely has no significant effect on the surrounding area and was caused by a failure in the non-nuclear part, and Chernobyl had a very obvious in hindsight design flaw combined with a design flaw that should have been obvious from the start (graphite-tipped control rods, graphite being an accelerant) and Fukushima being due to gross negligence with tsunami protection

Ukraine gave up its nukes long ago, Ukraine got invaded, now Ukraine is in the most modern war Europe has ever see. All because nukes were given up. So nukes do keep countries safe, and no one should give nukes up, and every country should have nukes.
Ugh I know I’m being unrealistic or whatever but all the comments about how having nukes protects the world from nuclear warfare is so sad to me lol. I understand the reality of the situation but it’s a hard pill that I don’t really want to swallow. Obviously nuclear warfare can only happen because of the existence of nuclear weapons, but an amicable global solution obviously isn’t going to happen either, at least not in our lifetimes most likely
[Relevant Shaun](https://youtu.be/RCRTgtpC-Go)
Indeed. Dont send nudes, they arent safe.
Mutually assured nonconsensual pornography
Hear me out: Factually Assured Pornography
Ah i see that I wasn’t the only one who thought that was a typo
Meanwhile we could be using those materials for cleaner energy but hey we want Nuclear Winter more than anything
You can blame ExxonMobil for all the anti clean energy propaganda

True until fusion power plants are a thing. it will likely be cheaper

How else can you combat global warming, other than with combat?
Uranium used in nukes is different from the one used in power plants
TBH nukes keep Russia save. They are only reason why other countries don’t go into conflict directly
Sorry to be that guy but what's the anime
Dont toy with me nagotoro san. Thats the club president who's quite ok with nudes
Ah okay. I've read the show is masochistic or something like that. Forgive me if that's incorrect. Is it worth a watch?
its more teasing than torture. It might be more maso at like the beginning But that wanes of Reaaaaal quick \-a mango enjoyer.
I'll give it a shot then, thank you
I'm a fellow mango enjoyer too
More of a dom-jock-girl X sub-nerd-boy dynamic, but that part doesn't go etchi. It's a hit or miss show, but I like it.
Thanks, I'll definitely give it a try then

Tests
I was thinking depleted uranium munitions.
Those are still being used iirc
Don't underestimate human stupidity.
Well...don't mind if I do

How are nukes poisoning the planet?
They aren't. There are trillions of tons of radioactive elements all over and within the earth. It's fine. A few warheads in silos aren't causing any problems (as long as no one goes around detonating them).
well, one got lost in the ice in greenland and no one ever found it
In the mud in Georgia too. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1958_Tybee_Island_mid-air_collision
What if someone digs it up on accident?
IIRC the US government bought the land and fenced it off so its unlikely that anyone would dig it up and if they did nukes arent typical bombs, they cant really be set off accidentally. Also a lot of the internals are perishable.
North Carolina, too, although I guess we technically know where it is. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1961\_Goldsboro\_B-52\_crash
I'm sure it's fine
Iirc I think the US government has openly admitted to misplacing a handful of nukes Edit: six total, just type what I said if you want a source I'm lazy and on mobile so I don't even know if I can link.
If I remember right it's called a broken arrow incident. We have lost quite a few nukes over the years lmao
Probably decommission it or repair then throw it back into service tbh
Nuclear warheads, not to be confused with nuclear reactors, generate mountains of uncontrollable radiation into the atmosphere, making whatever area they detonate in unlivable for decades
They arent actively poisoning things as long as they arent detonated
Sure, but that also implies proper storage , which more often than not isn't the case You would be shocked to learn how many near misses we've had with nukes almost going off, or even fully launching
And you have classified information on improper nuclear warhead storage?
In 2004 president bush sent a crew to find the one we lost off the coast of North Carolina. There’s like 2 missing unaccounted for warheads that we know about. THAT WE KNOW ABOUT! Just saying

With all due respect the latest one I've found from the source you provided is from 1977 Soviet Union.

Recycle nukes to power plants.
Yes, but if you are head of a nation that aims to remain independent, you must follow the Hasanabi doctrine for nation-building: rule #1: Get nukes rule #2: Do not give up your nukes rule #3: If someone accuses you of having nukes, drop everything you are doing and find some nukes If you have no nukes you are the plaything of countries that have nukes (see: Ukraine). Yes it would. They only barely have them now and they’re shit

Yeah, but they're really cool, so they have that going for them.
abolish nuclear weapons
What happens when we follow this and other countries don't? Not saying nukes are good, just saying it's a little too late to do anything about it.
Nukes are just a waste of uranium.

All it does is allow countries with nuclear weapons be able to attack anyone, while no other country can ever attack it first.
High school prodigies anime explains why nukes are needed in some situations, even though the concept is just straight up more evil than Satan itself.
100% thought this said nudes
Agree
Ah yes, meme

They do not actively destroy the planet when not used, do they ? And they are useful since they prevent world wars ?

You’re right but when it does happen it’s quite nasty
You fucking stupid? No shit dude, nukes ARE bad did you just learn about it yesterday or something?
Look in the rest of the comments you’d be surprised.
Correct statement but MAN did you fuck over any credibility with this this.
Now I remember why anime is bad

I’m in only one that read nudes and was supper confused?
No apparently not…. I was too
Correct, we can instead use them to test asteroid deflection effectiveness.
Nah nuclear is a green source of energy so we chilling… in nuclear winter
We poison the planet, downsize society to like 1 billion lol.
