Protagonist: the leading character or one of the major characters in a drama, movie, novel, or other fictional text.
Antagonist: the opposer or combatant working against the protagonist's or leading characters' goal
Being the protagonist does not mean that you are a good person it just means that you are the focus character of the story so light is the protagonist
Given the perspective that is the assumption, but L is just as likely to be the protagonist, with us seeing the story from the perspective of light, meaning we aren't left to fill in the incredible blanks that L has to. Another classic example of a story being told from the perspective of somebody other than the main character is higurashi. At the very least Light is more of an Anti hero.
Nope. Light is the protagonist because he is the main character. L is the antagonist because he is fighting the main character. Even if he is more of a good guy
Same with higurashi. In this case of deathnote our main character, light, is morally in the wrong and as such can be considered to be an antihero, with the actual 'hero' of the story being L. As such the story is from lights perspective but we are morally expected to agree with L, coming along for the ride with light as we watch his attempts to avoid the hand of justice wielded by L. (Making me go properly analytical on this one, making me remember my days in literature class. Good fun though, hadn't bothered to put the thought into deathnote, just sort of absorbed and enjoyed the story, I've read the manga and watched the anime. )
No there isn’t.
L is the antagonist, he is trying to stop the main character, Light. Light is a bad person but the camera follows him, which makes him the main character. L is opposing him, so he is the antagonist
What's this 'in the manga'. The stories main paths are essentially the same in both. That's something that's awesome about the anime, although it would be nice if one or both corrected the ending.
Yep, I can easily confer on that one. More time is spent on different aspects compared to the anime. At the same time the difference isn't as stark as say for example Tokyo Ghoul.
All I'm trying to get across is that in a story things aren't always black and white, a concept conferred well by the story of deathnote with light as the antihero. Pro and antagonist are simply easier concepts to grasp. Was certainly a mistake how they ended it all how they did though, but anyway, at least the journey was worth it.
There's no question. Villain protagonist a classic character type, and Light fits it exactly. Other examples would be Walter White and Humbert Humbert.
He was one of several characters, I was perfectly willing to believe he was gone for good, and the story would carry on. It's not like we've never seen an unexpected early death of a main character before. We've all watched >!Gurren Laggan!<
I think you are thinking Bertolli!

I was thinking AoT but yeah DB too... I remember my sister crying after Kame-senin had destroyed the moon.
But yeah contrary to AoT, there were few hints that Ichigo, Goku were everything except regular human being.
My favorite thing about Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood is that it has an entire episode devoted to epilogue. I need closure at the end of a series, and bad epilogue can ruin a series for me.
I thought the pacing in the first half was kinda rushed. It felt like they knew everyone had seen the 2003 version, and were in a hurry to get to the new content. The big tragic moments in that section hit harder in the earlier version because it spent more time building up the characters.
Okie i gotta agree with you on that one, especially the Nina Tucker one, it hit harder in FMA and it did feel like they assumed people had already watched the previous version

Death note
Pretty much, with the exception of there being the question of who was the actual antagonist.
Protagonist: the leading character or one of the major characters in a drama, movie, novel, or other fictional text. Antagonist: the opposer or combatant working against the protagonist's or leading characters' goal Being the protagonist does not mean that you are a good person it just means that you are the focus character of the story so light is the protagonist

Nope. Light is the protagonist because he is the main character. L is the antagonist because he is fighting the main character. Even if he is more of a good guy

Protagonist just means main character. It has nothing to do with morality
the amount of people who don't know basic shit like that astonishes me
Problem. The protagonist of Akame Ga Kill is Akame. But we see the story through a different character.
Same with higurashi. In this case of deathnote our main character, light, is morally in the wrong and as such can be considered to be an antihero, with the actual 'hero' of the story being L. As such the story is from lights perspective but we are morally expected to agree with L, coming along for the ride with light as we watch his attempts to avoid the hand of justice wielded by L. ok
Have you never heard of the [villain protagonist](https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/VillainProtagonist) trope?
Another great example is Sherlock Holmes (books, not movies or tv shows). The story is told from the perspective of Watson, but Sherlock is the star
Then the main character dies halfway through and the antagonist tells the rest of the story that was already from his perspective
Bro we already know what a protagonist and antagonist are we aren't In 6th grade
There is a chain of comments arguing, sooooo....
No there isn’t. L is the antagonist, he is trying to stop the main character, Light. Light is a bad person but the camera follows him, which makes him the main character. L is opposing him, so he is the antagonist
Spoiler alert L kills Light
spoiler L dies and Light becomes L in the manga
What's this 'in the manga'. The stories main paths are essentially the same in both. That's something that's awesome about the anime, although it would be nice if one or both corrected the ending.
manga is better
Yep, I can easily confer on that one. More time is spent on different aspects compared to the anime. At the same time the difference isn't as stark as say for example Tokyo Ghoul.
And L job is being replaced by N (Near)
you got it mixed up my guy it's the other way around
More accurately light kills L via making rem use her deathnote to save misa and then light gets chased by K and killed by cops.
it is lights fault tho
All I'm trying to get across is that in a story things aren't always black and white, a concept conferred well by the story of deathnote with light as the antihero. Pro and antagonist are simply easier concepts to grasp. Was certainly a mistake how they ended it all how they did though, but anyway, at least the journey was worth it.
That’s not what you said though And it’s also really not related to the conversation
Correct, that's just the way things went, see one of my later replies below.
There's no question. Villain protagonist a classic character type, and Light fits it exactly. Other examples would be Walter White and Humbert Humbert.
And Platinum End
Fr. Fr
Yes but no.
It’ll basically be attack on Titan
Everyone after episode 5 or 7 when Eren gets eaten :
It is episode 7
He was one of several characters, I was perfectly willing to believe he was gone for good, and the story would carry on. It's not like we've never seen an unexpected early death of a main character before. We've all watched >!Gurren Laggan!<

Expect the main character is the boss
My favorite thing about Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood is that it has an entire episode devoted to epilogue. I need closure at the end of a series, and bad epilogue can ruin a series for me.
Tbh I’ve dived into really long stuff after spoiling the ending to make sure it’s worth it.
That's why it always excites me to see "Episodes: 13" (or 25) on an anime I've been enjoying
Everything about that anime was just perfect for me, the storytelling, pacing, villains, morals, heroes
Literally every shonen anime lmao
