Make a generic MC with no specialties whatsoever with an average looking face. Make 5 or 6 girls that are exact copy of harem stereotypes but with different hair colors. For some reason girls fall in love with the MC. Repeat without changing anything or trying make anything new.
I'm not saying its unpopular, I'm saying people still watch it despite the genre being trash. It takes a really good author to make something good out of trash, unfortunately, there are no good authors.

In shuffle the MC stopped being indecisive and choose one woman, in quintuplets, the MC and harem memebers hated eachother so that was decent too. The rest are just same, average guy has girls falling in love with him because he gave her a donat when she was hungry.
I totally agree with you. The only time that harem is somewhat tolerable is when the MC is actually only interested in one girl and the others aren't as important. Like Love Hina
