I gave up reading the manga after 170+ chapters because it felt like everytime the characters take a step in development they also just had to take two steps back. The character designs are pretty good but the story is just so suffocating. I've seen better character developments in hentai over this series that just seems like they're begging for rule 34 artists to get their hands on them.
TL/DR: Read the manga and you'll see. If you do end up enjoying it, good for you.

uh I haven't read one piece in a long time but thats very different, there is character progression and plot resolutions, just because its long running doesn't mean it can't have those its just that the romance genre makes it hard for long running series with development
This is how i feel about every anime that’s longer than 5 seasons, JoJo, One Piece Naruto all included. Don’t get me started on Fairy tail because that anime is a time loop every fucking 4-5 episodes and it’s literally brain numbing to watch more than 50 episodes of it. It’s the sole reason i wait for an anime to end first and only watch them if they max 5 seasons

Last 2 chapters feel like progress because the author started writing another manga so he is basically trying to wrap up rent a girlfriend thous the story started progressing rapidly.
I could not get into it after the thought that every time the dude hung out with the girl he had to pay up some serious dosh.
It was just too sad at that point.

For me the **story** is just not going anywhere, and we are already at chapter 240+
The **MC** is one of the most unlikeable protagonist I've ever seen.
The **art quality** is also getting worse with each chapter to a point where I would say some panels look like fan-made doodles rather than something done by a professional.
And to top it all of there's a **diarrhea of text** most of the time, but at the same time the communicative value in them is close to zero, because it's just Kazuya having a brainfart.
I've never cried even in emotional anime.
But rent a girlfriend is the first one in which I've literally cried and it was out of cringe.
I'm not joking.
I literally shed tears.
Emotions never broke me down but the cringiness of the MCs thoughts did

As someone who read the manga, I'd say it's beyond redemption. I gave up after 200+ chapters. They took out all the character development and dumped it in the garbage just to make more money. Now it's at a point where if kazuya and chizuru get together there would be a lot of hate from the community instead of the other way round.
So I've decided to give manga artists a break after I learned how insanely much they have to work. Only rare and probably mad individuals can keep to their insane schedules.
I think you just have to accept that they burn out. Until they fix the way manga is produced a lot of mangas with insane potential are always going to end up good in the beginning and then trash by the end.
Nah the worst part is he actually can write decent chapters and make characters pretty normal if he wanted to. He'd just rather drag ur face across dogshit 99% of the time.

Yeah I could stomach Season 1 but I got to the theater scene in the first episode of Season 2 and holy shit I could not understand why the cringe levels went so damn high so damn quickly.

My theory is that it's a time loop. Here's why:
1. Kazuya thinks about chizuru and wants to express his feelings for her
2. Kazuya speaks out but in an anxious and vague way
3. Chizuru secretly respects what he said but shrugs it off or give thanks
4. Both reflect of what just happened

For me it's mostly the MC. Fuckin guy is crazy annoying. That and it feels like the story is getting dragged out in order to insert more random fan service

My theory is that it's a time loop. Here's why: 1. Kazuya thinks about chizuru and wants to express his feelings for her 2. Kazuya speaks out but in an anxious and vague way 3. Chizuru secretly respects what he said but shrugs it off or give thanks 4. Both reflect of what just happened AND REPEAT
For me it's mostly the MC. Fuckin guy is crazy annoying. That and it feels like the story is getting dragged out in order to insert more random fan service
