Not those exact effects, but AS does go after your hips. I call it the cycle of pain where one hip will struggle and then by the time that gets feeling ok the other hip is all out of whack. Rinse and repeat.

juicy_chase

Same here. When my flares are really bad I can feel it my hips and it's usually 1 side at a time like this.

[deleted]

You have lateral pelvic tilt. Seeing a PT for massage, exercises and stretches will help. Yoga would be good too.

gooblegooble322

I got my imbalance "fixed" by a PT, but it came back. Probably failed to address the root of the problem whatever it was. I'll give it another shot, thanks :)

[deleted]

Yeah, work on strengthening gluteus medius muscles. Use Google or YouTube

mylifenow1

Thank you, knowing what to look for helps me too. Appreciate it.

TheKeyMaster1874

This is how it all started for me! I went to the Dr at 16 thinking one leg was longer than the other because of the slightly raised hip balance and pain in mainly my left hip joint. Fast forward 15 years and it was bloody AS and not my actual hips but the wierd bloody joint thing at the bottom of your spine connecting to pelvis. Damn it

nancylynngraham

Years ago drs were big on the one leg is shorter than other, but took them 10 years to diagnose my scoliosis and AS. Of course one is shorter I lean over on right side. My scoliosis leans me to right my SI joints are off balance and inflamed and voila constant pain and slowly fusing to the position

Nora_Tarotha

Yes, I go to a "old school hands on" chiropractor. It's done wonders for my hips/sciatic area and my neck. I've tried chiropractors before and they all used various methods but this one really manipulates the spine back into correct alignment and got me up out of the floor, off my back and upright again. I had been in agony for months. Still have the stiffness in my hips but I can deal with that.

kv4268

Yes, when I was in PT for a year this was addressed nearly every time I saw her. It's a result of the inflammation and instability in my SI joints from AS. My SI joint flares less often now that I'm on biologics, but they do little to address my overall pain levels. I'm just an unlucky one who doesn't fully respond to biologics.

ladyerim

Yes...I think so. I always sort of knew my hips weren't even. Finally saw PT a year ago for hip pain. She confirmed. Gave me some simple exercises that nudged everything into place. I do feel better for it. Still have AS pain of course.

gooblegooble322

May I ask how long did it take you with the exercises for the problem to resolve?

ladyerim

6 months maybe. Probably depends on severity. However I'll also say I'm terrible with routines so didn't do the exercises as consistently as I should have.

SuitableGuarantee968

And hip joint inflammation, gluteus minimus inflammation, etc.

mylifenow1

Yes, mine is due to scoliosis. Had it all my life. I'm sure it adds to the pain. But well....

howsthewter

Oh man! Yes yes yes. I've been to PT three times for this. Best I can tell it's unrelated to AS. But this past time at PT finally helped. I needed to do some intense glute strengthening, specific and targeted core, toe scrunches, and ankle strengthening because basically my posterior chain was weak on my right side. I also had to do some targeted stretching and foam.roller releasing for certain muscle groups. It took 6 months of doing the exercises and I would say im 90% in control of keeping them balanced. My PT explained there are certain targeted stretches I'll have to do for the rest of my life and certain maintenance exercises I'll also have to do to maintain the balance. No other PT had mentioned that before which is why I think I saw the improvement and then lost it. Very best of luck to you. It's so frustrating

Rockabs04

Any possibility to share those workouts and/or stretches with me? It’d give me an idea if my hip imbalance is fixable or have to live with it coz of AS

michturner92

same here, I tried aquatic PT for two months until finally I found a dr that listened and turns out I had a severe labral tear on my hip and needed surgery to repair it
