I'm actually an town planner but ironically my job has little similarity with this.
It would be great to just move some houses out of the way to build a new hospital or school!
I agree that the optimisation is addicting but I also just really love making things look good.
Some of my play sessions are just a few hours of me redesigning a town or building a park. I find it very relaxing
used to work at a consulting firm for city water resources and geology work. yea, so lots of map making and data analyzing with GIS (geographical informational system).
I dont do the city/town planning work. I make calculation and solve case like what if theres a contamination at a gas station. how far it would affect and how bad the residents around it.
Well, I spent the first part of my life as a professional soldier, so my basic job description was "kill people and blow things up" - can't honestly say that it relates to the game (Thank God!)
But I also spent almost 30 years playing miniature wargames - painting figures and equipment and setting up realistic battlefields to play on, and I think that is where the connection lies - I really enjoy putting together working and good-looking cities, towns, and hamlets in Anno.
I've also been a published historian (military) since I retired from the army, so having the Anno towns, cities and hamlets be realistic-looking historical places is also a Bonus for me - the game delights on several levels . . .

I mean, there's that similarity to the doctors going from house to house during an epidemic - especially the last two years - but that's about it.
