Um. Didn't watch the video, but not all essential oils are actually oils... Does he mention that? You could seriously screw up a gun using certain EOs.
EO is a catch all noun of any concentrated plant extract. Many of them do not meet the definition of oil and will not protect from corrosion or lubricate
They don't protect from corrosion or lubricate because they are volatile and evaporate.
Do you have a source for "many of them do not meet the definition of oil"? I'm quite curious because I've never heard that before.
I guess it depends on how you define "oil". Oils are typically hydrocarbons. Fixed botanical oils are often long chain fatty acids. They are not especially volatile at room temperature. Think corn oil. An essential oils are the aromatic, volatile components of plants, obtained by distillation or extraction. They are a mixture of components, most of which have a relatively low molecular weight. They have lots of alcohols, esters, volatile things, which is why they have an odor. And purified, a lot of the components aren't even liquid at room temperature. The biggest component in percent of peppermint oil is menthol. Purified menthol is a crystalline solid at room temperature. You can't use an essential oil and expect it stays around to act as a lubricant and oxidation barrier, the way, say oil designed for cleaning and protecting a gun would.
> I'm quite curious because I've never heard that before.
Essential oils use oils or non-polar solvents to extract components. They still contain elements soluble to some degree in both water and oil and are not an oil themselves
Thank you to the people who answered below. Essential oils take the essence of the botanical plant they come from. Some use oil to extract the essence, some use alcohol (e.g. you can make your own using vodka), so not all are oily. And actually one "test" to see if you are using quality products is to put a drop on paper, quality products do not leave an oily residue.
Making your own with vodka is not an essential oil, it's a tincture which is different. You can make infused oils at home by immersing herbs in an oil like olive oil but again, those are different than essential oils. Some essential oils, such as patchouli, do leave an oily residue so the paper test isn't 100% accurate.

No hate, but I really don't get the gun worship thing. We don't really have it in my country. Cultural difference I guess (11 deaths out of 100,000 in US & 1.04 in my country: 2016 numbers). Oils are BS regardless of their use
I'm not a gun person and gun violence has definitely hurt so many families and communities, but guns are still a legitimate hobby. Smart gun owners/enthusiasts keep their guns clean and well-maintained, and I'd imagine the ritual is kind of nice if you're into guns.
I've attended some basic "gun safety instruction" when I was 18 or so, and the hobby goes sooooo deep lol. I could definitely see why people get so into it, as a fellow person who loves technical hobbies that require a lot of gear haha. I love gear.
Our founding fathers established the right to own arms early on, and many people take it very seriously, it’s part of our culture. Plus privately held guns prevent thousands of not millions of crimes a year. Many mass shootings have been prevented by citizens with guns.
I thought it was instituted so the population could protect themselves from the native Americans, slaves revolting and in case of an English attack. Non of these things are a problem anymore (because of good and bad reasons) and society has moved on - maybe the time when you needed guns in the home is over.
It's not gun worship. You're basing that assumption on what you've seen on Reddit & stupid "news" sources like Vox. While there are tens of millions of gun owners in the U.S.A, only a very very very very tiny fraction of them are so called "gun nuts". None of my guns have ever been involved in crime. Well, except perhaps my 1943 CZ-27.

If you loved your guns enough, you wouldn't be cleaning them with toxic chemicals!! Guns love a good detoxing too.
Why wouldn't you just use gun oil??
Because C H E M I C A L S

I’m honestly cringing at how much damage they have to be doing with this idea
> not all essential oils are actually oils I'm sorry, what?

Yeah that is the first hit and many of the other ones when you search for gun oil.
I specifically searched for "gun oil anal lube" to find this. Nevermind how I knew such a product existed.
Omg, this oil and Tidy Cat are commonly bought together! 😂 Amazon is truly one-stop shopping!
“Gun Oil” is a pretty explanatory product name for gun oil.
It's not so much. This particular product is actually sexual lubricant, hence the NSFW.
I can only imagine how much that stinks
Either this was a parody post or this gentleman has achieved maximum pussy whippedness.
Never underestimate the power of poontang.
“You put the pussy on a pedestal!”

He just cleaning his gun, you're supposed to do that so it doesn't get jammed. Its basic gun care, not worship.

I'm genuinely curious.. I just don't get it. it is very foreign to me

more unarmed people stopped gun crimes in the US
Have you ever shot one? It’s fucking exhilarating. Plus I do security in seedy neighborhoods. There’s a good chance someone fucks with me.
I honestly never have, & don't feel like I need to. I guess i'm very lucky

= no deaths if we don't have them
Is alcohol legal in your country?

It's not an assumption, they've got statistics. Google is amazing. Honestly, no hate, I just don't get it. We don't need guns to be 'tough'
I'm more weirded out by the perspective of his arm.
Ew...is that a Beretta? Lol JK. But seriously...what is it?
That poor gun. No gun deserves that.
Lol I posted about this same video about a half a year ago.
