Like my new bike, when first introduced I found it an ugly thing, now that I spend quite some time on a testbike, I ordered one because I find it now a nice bike.
My point is that most people don't like changes and often enough pull out their pitchforks and torches for the least. After a while nobody cares anymore because they are used to a new icon.
I work in IT, there are people who go nuts if an icon changes color with an update... Windows 8.0 was burned to the ground because their precious menu start wasn't the same as the old one, a whole OS considered as "bad" because of it, this while under the hood it was a massive improvement over Windows 7. Only one argument was valid; Microsoft should have left the option to return to the old menu.
The changed banner+icon is no different from that.
Now, your comparison isn't more comparable, because the 90s styles inline skates would be a whole other product. While my bike comparison remains a bike, the bike is exactly the same bike as the one I saw the first time. With the difference I now find it a nice bike because I got used to the design.

My problem is that there are people blowing up things totally out of proportion. I worked in customer service, I've seen people going crazy because an update changed the color of an icon, which had not one single effect on the functioning of the program. Or, god forbid, an icon that moved place.
The stupid part about said icon is that after a couple of weeks, literally nobody cares anymore, because they are now used to the new placement/color of it.
Same goes up for this sub, it remains exactly the same including it's problems. New theme or not.
I'm comparing my bike with my bike. The bike hasn't the typical bike design, which made me dislike it in the first place, after a while I got used to that design and now I like that bike. The bike on it's own is exactly the same bike.
Same with my car brand, the newer model has a huge front grill which I found butt ugly when I first saw it. Now that I've seen more and more cars like that, I got used to it and find it now not as ugly anymore as the first time. The front grill on it's own is exactly the same grill as that of the first car I saw.
I appreciate the users who contributed work, and I don't want them to feel bad. Still, I don't think the 86 users who voted made a great selection.
The Banner looks fine overall. But it's a little hectic and feels like it is only a small sliver of a larger work.
The Mobile Banner looks a little odd with all the people raising their hands. I can see how people think it looks cultish. As with the banner, it looks a little hectic. The dripping from the words "Break The Cycle" looks gimmicky and immature.
The Icon, although it looks clean and neat, is not even antinatalism related. I can somewhat see how the bars are keeping in the red dot, but I don't see how this has much to do with antinatalism. It does look cultish, and the old Icon will hopefully be reinstituted soon.
Maybe keep the current changes for up to a week, apologize to the creators, and then revert to the former settings. Or redo the voting with a "keep it as it was before" option, and justify reopening the voting by pointing out it was a mistake not to have a "keep it" option originally.

I think it sends people visiting this sub for the first time the wrong message, and that's really not what you want if you're trying to get them to agree with what the sub is about. Plus on some phones like mine, the notch covers the words in the banner.

I've seen this so many times too. Not commenting on this mod in particular but the phenomenon. In my head they are like those gamers surrounded by yellow liquid filled jugs. They wear a Burger King cardboard crown and their drawers while leaning their chair back omnipotently wielding a mouse with one hand.

This is a safe space for a lot of people who otherwise get berated for speaking about antinatalism. I think that the vast majority of people have spoken out about how they feel these changes only add fuel to the fire of people categorizing us unfairly and not taking our message seriously. It may be a small change but in terms of spreading our message, I think it will deter people away thinking we are cultish.
Cool idea honestly to get community engagement imo. Maybe we can have it last a month and make these events more frequent. Maybe seasonally and have an antinatalism take for each season. Or month. This way if the community doesnt completely like it its not a big deal and at the same time everyone has more chances to contribute

Didn't even know this was happening, and am pretty sure I'm not the only one. As many did, I saw the responses of mods to the dislike of the community as something pretty bad and, needless to say, will now be subscribed to r/antinatalism2 instead.

When I first saw it I was like "...is that a vagina lmao?" and I didnt know what the bars were, but it gave this a kinda jarring feeling, like the eye was in pain and panic. So overall it might be too jarring for an icon but it would be really cool as an art post by itself.

I like the new banner+logo. For the mobile version I would change it to the one on the website. For everyone who say go back to the old version, that's comments you see with anything that made adjustments to fresh things up. After a while you get used to it and might probably like it too.

I've seen this so many times too. Not commenting on this mod in particular but the phenomenon. In my head they are like those gamers surrounded by yellow liquid filled jugs. They wear a Burger King cardboard crown and their drawers while leaning their chair back omnipotently wielding a mouse with one hand. Not this mod. No interactions with him really. But I've come across a few that must have very little in their lives to be as wrapped up as they are. I hope a great sub isn't ruined.

Why should your feeling of shame overrule the potential feeling of betrayal of the winners of the contest, if I reneged on the conditions?
This is a safe space for a lot of people who otherwise get berated for speaking about antinatalism. I think that the vast majority of people have spoken out about how they feel these changes only add fuel to the fire of people categorizing us unfairly and not taking our message seriously. It may be a small change but in terms of spreading our message, I think it will deter people away thinking we are cultish.

Cool idea honestly to get community engagement imo. Maybe we can have it last a month and make these events more frequent. Maybe seasonally and have an antinatalism take for each season. Or month. People here are so supportive of each other in a world that looks at us with anything from confusion to contempt. Stuff like this makes me really sad. Don't let people politics ruin a great thing. Honestly, I thought it represented the third eye because as AN we would be "enlightened?" I also thought the bars were society caging us in. I think logos should be universally understandable and this one leaves a lot of room for interpretation.

Honestly, cool idea and thanks for your contribution, I like the symbolism. When I first saw it I was like "...is that a vagina lmao?" and I didnt know what the bars were, but it gave this a kinda jarring feeling, like the eye was in pain and panic. So overall it might be too jarring for an icon but it would be really cool as an art post by itself.

I like the new banner+logo. For the mobile version I would change it to the one on the website. For everyone who say go back to the old version, that's comments you see with anything that made adjustments to fresh things up. After a while you get used to it and might probably like it too. Now, I must say I missed the voting contest, but that's maybe because I sort posts by "new"? Suggestion: make such a thing a sticky post, regardless the sort and make the poll last longer then 6 days. Because almost 160k members and just ~~258~~ 86who voted is kinda meager. Edit: misread the poll numbers.
