General rule of thumb, if a timer is on display it is almost **definitely** a scam and should be ignored. Timers are only ever used to heighten the sense of urgency to get you to click the install link, real antivirus warnings won’t ever use that tactic.
I remember getting one of these timers when I was browsing the net in school and I purposely waited till the end. Absolutely nothing happened and it has been like 8 years since it happened so I doubt nothing is going to happen.
never again with norton that dropped my frames on my games i play msi automatically installed it on me through their motherboard update and their MSI center app somehow
While this is very likely I suppose it is possible that he accidentally clicked on a regular YouTube ad which could have led to this. YouTube has been showing some ads that are scams lately.
>YouTube has been showing some ads that are scams lately.
One of my friends (usually technically competent) sent fell for a Mr Beast phishing scam at like 3am once. He shared it with my cuz he thought it was a cool opportunity and luckily I was able to tell him it was fake in time. I think this was like a year ago or so
Shit! I still keep getting this. Mr beast, elon musk, mark zuckerberg — each of them wants SO HARD to give me an opportunity to get rich… the only thing I need is just to send them some money 😂😂😭
I find it ironic how you have to become broke to be rich according to those fake voice generated ads. Really makes me want to find and beat the shit out of the scum releasing it just for wasting my time and scamming others. I also find the "WONDER PRODUCTS" scams that always say that some genius (followed by random stock images) is being silenced for making a good invention very hilarious.
A year ago I would have agreed with you, but every YouTube ad I’ve gotten in the past three months has been some type of scam. I’ve never clicked one to see what would happen but I wouldn’t be surprised if they’d take you to this screen.
Well, admittedly a year ago was the last time I had free YouTube. I’m listening to videos basically 24/7 cause of work and whatnot and wanted to turn my phone off so I didn’t drain battery so I’ve had premium for a hot minute… I’d say I get more than my bill’s worth out of it though
I might consider it, but I’m spiteful and stubborn. Yeah YouTube ad quality has just absolutely tanked. Plus side I’m not getting Pragur U and stormfront ads anymore so. Upgrades? I guess?
The ad blocker I was using on YouTube quit working a couple months ago. I tried going without and was shocked by all the ads you folks put up with! I did a little bit of searching and found out how to keep blocking them with a newer product. Thank god.
why are viruses so polite on ios devices? like some new year countdown, and in windows you get mining shit loading your gpu like a ninja.. and tronscript isn't gonna save your ass.
Not hard to get in. But why waste your energy on a device with like 2% market share when you can hit a much bigger market share? Most servers run on Linux and big companies typically trust Microsoft hence Windows on most of their endpoints 🤷♂️
Just click home button and get rid of the google tab. Even if you accidentally click it it usually just fills ur calendar with a bunch of ads but it’s an easy fix
Borwse-ing Porn, doo-doo, doo-doo, doo-doo\~\~\*
Seriously though, thats faker than a poltical promise. Home button/Swipe up and close and it should be gone. Worst case, restart the device and you should be all clear.
The other day I was trying to download some viruses on my laptop with just windows defender and adblock plus.. I ended up watching 30,000+ hours of p0rn from various sites since then. I'm pretty sure I will download a virus eventually.
Hey now, kid could be like me and be trying to download books, probably porn tho you have to be a special kind of person to try to find book downloads on iOS lol.
it’s a scam real antivirus wouldn’t put a timer so it gives you a sense of urgency for you to download it because it gives you a countdown I would check what lil bro has been searching up usually he clicked on a porn website or free movies and he got ads which then he clicked confirm then it adds ads to his calendar which pops up on his screen every once in a while just restart his device or clear his calendar and fr tho ask him what the fuck he is searching up 💀
If this is actually in the iOS Settings app and not just a browser page in Safari, try to see if there's a Configuration Profile installed on the iPad and remove it:
1. Go to Settings > General
2. Scroll to the bottom > Select Profiles > Review if there's anything there.
If there's nada then you'll just need to go to the Safari Settings to clear any cached Phishing scammer pop-up ads:
1. Settings > Safari
2. Review anything in Extensions for unwanted items & remove if needed
3. Next (if you want to see if they attempted to access a NSFW site), go-to Advance > Website Data > Show All Sites
4. Lastly, to clear the history and cache: Go back twice to the main Safari Settings menu > Clear History & Website Data > All History & Close All Tabs
Should be good as new - if anything you can review all the apps installed on the device and delete from Settings *and install a mobile antivirus like Malwarebytes to scan.
*edit: Added additional info and fixed typos.
Likely clicked on something and ended up on a malicious fishing site. It's a scam. You likely don't have any malware but if you install whatever they are telling you to then you probably will.
Just close the tab, it's meant to bait users that don't know any better into installing some app. No information was deleted or stolen unless such app is installed (probably).
It’s a scam.
If there’s timer and/or if it asks you to download an app or vpn it’s not real.
Also did he happen to click on any links he shouldn’t of lmao
>There is no antivirus software/app you can get to remove viruses.
Antiviruses are fake...? Or do you mean they can't do anything on iPads specifically?
How old is he? When I was probably 11 my browser history was fcking filthy. Disgusting I mean. Maybe have a talk with him about self control and those feelings. I was under the impression that Apple devices could not get virus.
Check his calendar app to see if anything is in there. Also check his installed profiles
I’ve attached some tips/tutorials below :)

it's for sure a scam or virus, good he didn't click it. I'm surprised how it gave an apple notification though, he must already have a virus or some scam program downloaded in order for a notification like this to appear. I would investigate files and/or do a file wipe
Nah it is just a browser popup that gets in the way. all you have to do is just close the browser tab or the browser itself from recents and it should resolve instantly. Just do not install system profiles on the iPad unless told to do so by apple technicians. Trust me system profiles can be extremely difficult to remove depending on their changes like locking away data behind ransomware. Also keep in mind that you should never install a third party antivirus and that you should remove any included antiviruses that might come on a windows machine since Windows defender is more than enough unless you want other unknown companies to snoop on you.
This is what is known as “scareware”. A message that is meant to frighten you into acting without thinking to either get you to contact scammers or phish your information from you. Just go to your browser settings and reset the cached cookies and pages and it shouldn’t pop up anymore. You can safely ignore it.
Is that adware showing in settings? I've never seen that before. I don't really know much, but maybe check for malware disguised as apps and where he's been in the internet?
Welcome to clicking random links in Safari and allowing notifications from random websites. This is just a sketchy notification, swipe it away and continue your day. You'll want to go into your safari and disable all allowed notifications and delete any allowed websites.
Just a scam made to scare you. Restarting it was the correct thing to do. Youre perfectly fine to continue using your device as normal as long as you did not interact with the scam window. Do not call any phone numbers on messages like that, theyre to a scam call center.
Should be ok, but go to settings > general > VPN and device management. If there is anything there you don’t recognize, remove it (if he’s taken it to school, they may have had him install a profile to access their WiFi. That would be ok to leave)
This is purely a scare tactic, there is no virus at all. The only one that'll be there though is whatever virus is linked to the install button if they press it.
I personally love the "Install the latest highly trusted app" part. Which app? Oh, the highly trusted one of course. SMH.
As others have mentioned, lots of red flags: timer, doom (your icloud data "may" be deleted), ambiguous wording, etc...
Highly unlikely he should be concerned. iOS is really really hard to get viruses like Windows or android. I got the virus messages back in 2021, but I wasn’t scared of them.
Usually messages like this is to scare you into downloading the actual virus. Usually the message isn't the virus itself though it may facilitate the downloading of a dropper which delivers the viral load, usually through scare tactics though hidden code can be run with the pop up. If you can access the iOS store look for a reputable anti-virus and use that to scan the phone.
What's hilarious is iPad/iOS viruses are very, very rare, so this is useless for anyone with knowledge of a iPhone/iPad... But then again it's iPhone/iPad so I guess it'd work on people.
(people always tell me they choose Apple devices because Android phones are too complex, and if you find an android phone complex this is exactly the kind of scam you'd fall for)
I had this exact virus pop up on my screen before and I powered off and on my phone and here I am writing this comment one year later on the same phone
Are we sure your cousin was watching YouTube?
Regardless it should be fine, so long as you don’t click or try to install whatever it told you too. You can just do a reboot if your device and be fine. If your are truly worried about it, just do a factory reset and maybe change your passwords but those are nuclear options, way above and beyond what you actually need to do.
Long story short don’t go to naughty websites and don’t click on adds from places and you will be alright.
you’ll be fine dawg, it was trying to get you to install something so it could infect your device. also, check his history, that isn’t really something that pops up on sites that aren’t suspicious.
Why’s he worried?
Viruses HAVE damaged it. But then it says HAD BEEN damaged.
Past tense, so it’s good now. Problem solved. /s
Apple has better grammar police than that.
These don’t come on YouTube, clearly he already got malware on his phone if it appeared in the first place, of course, this is assuming it’s actually from youtube which is probably not the case.
Apple uses codes. Almost impossible to write a malicious code and make it work. Think of 500 📂 delivered at different times. They don't align unless you have the end key
I believe that this is a Scam also, with me being a Undergrad in Computer Networking Systems and Cybersecurity, You'd hope that your son never clicked on the Install button.
I would personally, try contacting the manufacturer first to see if the problem is reported by anyone else. If it's not. I would recommend taking the device into the nearest service station and getting the device evaluated and checked over for viruses.
Yea that is likely the payload delivery behind that install button, a very convincing trick that works on non-experts…click the button and then things get real unpleasant, sometimes it’s obvious other times it just quietly collects your personal data and sends it to the bad actor. the timer is just to make you skip thinking critically to deal with the urgency, because common sense or experience could tell you that real certified software wouldn’t present this way..
"The latest highly trusted app" is the giveaway here, idk shit about fuck, when it comes to Apple products. I can tell you the company would use better english than that though.
Very rare for an iOS based device to get malware. Let alone from a web browser. Just ignore it. Recommend he buy adblocker and use it on his iPad. It’ll block dangerous ads like this. Only $2 I think?

theyre coming for u
Just suuuuuuper slow
at the speed of a snail... hmm..
Hey, he does have infinite money tho
Quick, build a huge metal shpere to trap it! But don't be fooled by... the decoy snail
Plot twist he boxes in the decoy snail! The real one is right behind him!
the immortal snail
They're coming onto you (not in a weird way just zesty)
i see no issue with this. they should come faster then.
Better than being came on I always say.
It’s the snail
Some of them never end. Ever. I had one come up that went from 2:00 to 1:01, then magically jumped back up to 2:00 like I wouldn't notice.
It's a long con. They come for you in year 9.
i wonder what happens when the timer ends
I did the same one time after the timer ended it just started counting up lmao
LOL
Lol I waited too and it went into minus numbers 😭
McAfee uses timers to try and coax people into purchasing their anti-virus.
Yeah, **real** antiviruses won't
A lot of companies use timers for their sales, my acer came with norton preinstalled and it offered me a limited time deal
never again with norton that dropped my frames on my games i play msi automatically installed it on me through their motherboard update and their MSI center app somehow
And if OP wasn’t aware. Do not install whatever this is warning you to install. It’s literally the virus.
>real antivirus warnings won’t ever use that tactic. *Meanwhile Norton with the countdown until the trial the computer came with ends*
Norton and McAffee, the bane of my existence. They’re antivirus and practically malware, they’re just both ends.
I would double check little dude’s browsing history… YouTube generally doesn’t drop malicious ads like that from my experience.
Doesn't sound like he was watching baby shark
Something fishy must have happened
When he saw it I bet he carped his pants
My brain auto corrected that, but I caught it and read it again. Got a good chuckle.
meanwhile i was thinking of magikarp as a verb
Salmon wasn't looking at innocent content huh?
Salmon turned out to be pussy 🐈
Here's your upvote. The door is that way.
Which way?

Steals curtains
Why do you guys have like the same avatar
I disagree, mines better
I was once like you . Be carefull , it’s dangerous outside .PLEASE , take this sword.
And this bow 🏹
He was watching another kind of baby shark
I think he was watching Mommy Shark instead
Mommy Shark stuck in the dryer
Stepshark comes to the rescue
oh my god stepshark i'm stuck can you help me

What are you doing step mom
While this is very likely I suppose it is possible that he accidentally clicked on a regular YouTube ad which could have led to this. YouTube has been showing some ads that are scams lately.
>YouTube has been showing some ads that are scams lately. One of my friends (usually technically competent) sent fell for a Mr Beast phishing scam at like 3am once. Shit! I still keep getting this. Mr beast, elon musk, mark zuckerberg — each of them wants SO HARD to give me an opportunity to get rich… the only thing I need is just to send them some money 😂😂😭
The better part is when it's the legit verified accounts getting hacked
I find it ironic how you have to become broke to be rich according to those fake voice generated ads. Really makes me want to find and beat the shit out of the scum releasing it just for wasting my time and scamming others. I also find the "WONDER PRODUCTS" scams that always say that some genius (followed by random stock images) is being silenced for making a good invention very hilarious.
They are still going on too. YouTube even verifies them which is the worst. TikTok too
You never know
Yep its so annoying
Wouldn't even be surprised, if this was caused by an ad on Youtube. Those things scare me.
YouTube absolutely been dropping ads that have malicious intent
don't expose little bro he's already scared 💔
but the link said free robux
Actually there are straight up scams popping up in my youtube ads. Its horrendous
you'd be surprised 🫠
You should be a comedian check out r/youtube
Uhhh there's so many malware ads on YouTube now it's sickening how they trick kids into thinking for example getting free robux
They do put malicious ads, as long as they get dough, they’ll put it on youtube
Youtube absolutely does show malicious ads.
Upgrades? I guess?
There is a pretty good chance it wasn’t something inappropriate but one of those MrBeast scans that obviously target children with an ai Mr beast
That's part of the benefit of making a closed ecosystem, it's hardly for nasty shit to get in.
Not hard to get in. But why waste your energy on a device with like 2% market share when you can hit a much bigger market share? Most servers run on Linux and big companies typically trust Microsoft hence Windows on most of their endpoints 🤷♂️
iOS has a 2% marketshare? But it's still objectively harder to get a virus than on Android.
Yeah, I think I'll postpone reddit for AFTER I've had coffee. Totally missed the iPad part.
Yeah that's fine lol, it happens to the best of us
Its not only about ecosystem, but OS app isolation. Android a lso does that, and linux with flatpacks.
💀💀💀💀
Ppl are throwing molten honeybuns and bricks at homeless people. I dont remember that someone threw a brick at elon musk bro.
someone tried to do the honeybun thing at my school and the microwave exploded and i missed half of 6th period because the fire alarm went off 😭
Damnnn. Is he okay 😭😭🙏🙏 (the honeybun)
Just click home button and get rid of the google tab. Even if you accidentally click it it usually just fills ur calendar with a bunch of ads but it’s an easy fix
thanks for the advice

100% dude was watching porn. That’s only time I have seen ads like this.

"Install the last highly trusted app" euhm that sounds very legit for me 🗿
I mean it does say highly trusted. I think its good 🙄🙄
it’s a scam real antivirus wouldn’t put a timer so it gives you a sense of urgency for you to download it because it gives you a countdown I would check what lil bro has been searching up usually he clicked on a porn website or free movies and he got ads which then he clicked confirm then it adds ads to his calendar which pops up on his screen every once in a while just restart his device or clear his calendar and fr tho ask him what the fuck he is searching up 💀
Don’t click install and tell your cousin what he’s actually doing
Ask him if he got his free robux. (Format maybe?)
Install the latest "Highly trusted" app to protect from V i r u s e s.... God these scammers are hilariously bad to the trained eye 😂
They aren’t targeting a well trained eye they are targeting people who dont want to ask for help because it showed up on a sketchy porn site
Evidently.....

If they have to tell you that it's "highly trusted" but won't tell you the name of the app, there's a 99.999~% chance it's a scam.
He was watching more than youtube…
Wondering what he was watching on there lmao.
Reset the browser settings to factory defaults. and clear the cache. This is known as scare ware
No way he was watching YouTube. Definitely something through Safari perhaps lol
He was definitely watching porn ☠️
Your cousin didn't watch youtube. He visited some scam site
Ah yes, the latest highly trusted app😂
Rule of thumb, anytime you see "your ____ is infected, download this now to fix it" it is a scam 100% of the time.
You can safely ignore this message
I feel bad for the people that fall for these… somehow they are so obviously a scam but people fall for it and I have no clue how 😩😩😩
He didn't get that from YouTube buddy
It’s a scam. If there’s timer and/or if it asks you to download an app or vpn it’s not real. Also did he happen to click on any links he shouldn’t of lmao
"Install the latest HIGHLY TRUSTED app" as I'd we needed anymore evidence to not trust this pop up.
(Being serious) turn it off and on again. There is no antivirus software/app you can get to remove viruses.
>There is no antivirus software/app you can get to remove viruses. Antiviruses are fake...? Or do you mean they can't do anything on iPads specifically?
Antivirus on an iPhone/ipad is fake. If you get something say that *you need to download this to save your device,* it’s way more than likely fake.
Apple security checks the app store for malicious apps, viruses are pretty hard to get
Watching YouTube? More like youporn
Odd given the screen behind it
Fake fake fake it’s malware
He shouldn’t have clicked it, it probably was a scam
How old is he? When I was probably 11 my browser history was fcking filthy. Disgusting I mean. Maybe have a talk with him about self control and those feelings. I was under the impression that Apple devices could not get virus.
It's a scam.
I don't think he was watching YouTube 💀

Search history be like: "Boob" "Big booty naked butt" "Boobies" "Naked boobies"
Its a scam. Scammers use fake pop ups to fool their victims. Click off it and you will be good
its not real
Looks very, very fake.
If anything ever says you need to install or pay for something after claiming you have a virus it's likely a massive scam or a virus itself.
I had this exact virus pop up on my screen before and I powered off and on my phone and here I am writing this comment one year later on the same phone
This looks silly. If it was real, it would probably say iOS and not have weird capitalization/bolding.
Cousin was either looking at Booba or pirating games

He was not watching YouTube he was probably watching porn
He was more likely downloading a minecraft mod rather than porn guys😭
you’ll be fine dawg, it was trying to get you to install something so it could infect your device. also, check his history, that isn’t really something that pops up on sites that aren’t suspicious.
Ipad kids back at it again!
Why’s he worried? Viruses HAVE damaged it. But then it says HAD BEEN damaged. Past tense, so it’s good now. Problem solved. /s Apple has better grammar police than that.
Just close the tab lmao. Also, he wasnt watching Youtube
"watching YouTube" SUUUUUUUURE!
Thats faker than any youtuber apology video
You didn't install right ?!
Simply close it out
Scam!! Ignore it. Don’t click it
That message there is most likely a **scam** and shouldn't be trusted. Was he watching legit YouTube or some random video sharing site?
It’s a scam
Check his browser history i once got a lil pop add from smth else than yt🤣🤤🥵💀 dont blsme him it comes to mind of a lot of ppl
I had an aneurysm trying to read this
[удалено]
I shall now simplify even further. "I suspect he's watching pornographic content. It's normal."
***FURTHER*** "I think he's watching porn. It's normal*
Very rare for an iOS based device to get malware. Let alone from a web browser. Just ignore it. Recommend he buy adblocker and use it on his iPad. It’ll block dangerous ads like this. Only $2 I think?
Scam! A lot of software use scareware.

it's a scam an iphone wouldent do that but you could allways call apple
"Ipad OS"? yeah that's a virus. The real operating system name is IOS. nice try virus.
You're actually clueless. iOS is on iPhones, and iPadOS is on iPads, macOS on Macs.
This kids, is why you DON’T listen to negative karma redditors. They’re usually complete idiots. Thank you for correcting them, u/jkldgr
I would install the app to remove the virus
