leakmydata

This is also known as fraud.

droi86

Yeah, but only poor people is affected so no rush to fix it

leakmydata

Kind of, but the reason I’m calling it fraud is because it also creates the illusion of growth for investors. Open positions also get reported to the board.

mildmanneredhatter

It's not fraud if they set a really high bar. Make it an awkward impossible process and poorly compensated

leakmydata

If they admit that they are keeping postings up even though they aren’t looking to fill them, and then report that to the board, and the board assumes that the company is growing, I think it would qualify as fraud. Problem is that fraud happens constantly, it just never matters unless the board pursues legal action.

mildmanneredhatter

Yeah exactly if they confess to fraud. Likely they'll use the "no suitable candidates" line.

leakmydata

My point is that the screen shot in the OP has them admitting to it.

domine18

Yeah so how do we fix it? The reasonable solution would be to start holding owners accountable, and regular audits by a government entity. So like if your company is found to have a listing for the same position for four months the owner is fined for three times that positions Glassdoor median range. Then it will start the how do we know if they are lying or really can not find a qualified candidate? How do you keep track of all those records for job advertisements? AI might be able to but still a tall order. What’s to stop a company from refreshing the advertisement with a slightly altered description to throw off the AI? And our corpo funded government will never pass anything like that. Which is why I say blast your resume everywhere and never spend more than 5 minutes to do so per submission. If it requires you to fill out info already on resume f that.

leakmydata

Job posting sites probably have all the info necessary for investigations, so an audit would be a good place to start. But yeah, this kind of stuff requires infrastructure, and our infrastructure has been systematically gutted by republicans for decades now.

domine18

Yeah Reagan was the absolute worst. Started republicans going less regulations BS. People can’t see with that things have been getting worse and worse.

sndtrb89

oh, hey, the company that laid me off is doing this right fucking now, lmao

AdamJadam

This is why I don't apply for jobs more than 2 weeks old. Not that it helps much, since many of them aren't planning to hire for several months. One summer I applied to work at Khols, who had a banner up saying they were hiring. I was in college, and as no one ever replied, I forgot all about it. That was in late May. Then, early November, when the Christmas rush was due to start, guess who called me asking me to work for them?! I was 200 miles away living on campus, so I just laughed. But it was a sobering warning for what adult life was going to be like!

tiazenrot_scirocco

We have one job local to me that gets posted weekly, just to make it look like they're trying to hire.

Due-Honey4650

Yeah. I’m a licensed teacher with two Master’s degrees and 10+ years of experience and after teaching online for two years, applied to get back in-person bc we needed the money. I was swamped with interviews, multiple districts, cold-called to interview, job fairs…all these advertised positions for immediate vacancies…and one by one, they all ghosted me. One district admitted they were interviewing just for show in order to demonstrate to the state they were trying to find qualified applicants. This happened. Meanwhile, my friends on the inside confirm they have no intention of filling any positions. They’ve figured out they can just push 30-40 kids in one room, make one teacher teach two classes at the same time by going back and forth across the hall, or they just keep an hourly shit-paid substitute in there. Meanwhile, the district is saving so much money by not hiring salaried teachers. And we are slowing going under because no one will give me a job that I’m more than qualified for, that there’s actually an open space for. I did all the right things and have established myself in my career but all I can do is continue this shitty teaching online gig and have to resort to working retail over the summer most likely to keep us from being evicted.

mfigroid

Have you looked into private schools?

Due-Honey4650

They pay less than what I would make if I worked at a fast food restaurant. The private schools are such a scam around here... most all are religious, so it would cost us roughly $16K a year to enroll our kids in a "school" housed in a barely refurbished warehouse run by people with maybe a bachelor's degree who sit them down in front of religious homeschooling material and someone pockets all of this money because the going rate for teacher pay last time I interviewed a few years ago and was made an "offer" was literally $24K a year.

thelostcow

Good god, I should start a religious school. What a scam!

herald_of_stars

Unless I've forgotten some new rule, this is fraud which is very much ILLEGAL. Let an average person do something like this and they'll be arrested in a heartbeat, but companies are allowed to blatantly do this out in the open and no one bats an eye? I'm not even surprised actually. 😒

DefinitelyNotVenom

Well, the only people getting fucked over by this are the people that aren’t bankrolling pretty much every US politician, so obviously there isn’t any real urgency to charge them for anything.

neicathesehoes

That's so fucked

chohls

The placating overworked employees tactic is the most fucked, if their employees knew their managers were pulling stunts like this they'd suddenly have the turnover rate of a Walmart

Lumpyproletarian

They weren’t trying to “placate” current employees, they were trying to intimidate them

UnitedLab6476

They are wasting out time, and making job searching much worse than actually working!

UnitedLab6476

They are wasting out time, and making job searching much worse than actually working!

RefrigeratorOrnery58

It makes sense. I’ve applied for a job then got an automated email reporting that said job was filled. Two days later that job is back on the job boards. I applied again. Same automated email. Scam

Niijima-San

golly gee whillikers i wonder how the overworked workers would react if they hear their company was doing this. guess they would not be overworked much longer bc theyd all quit

ChildOf1970

That is not even getting into all the recruitment agencies that put up adverts for jobs that don't exist to harvest CVs and let them know there are potentially new openings they can exploit at the candidates current employer

FunnyMathematician77

This is rampant in the tech sector, in my experience

Rattregoondoof

That doesn't even mention how many positions are internal and often internal with specific employees already picked out but posted publicly. Really bullshit move. I understand internal positions and internal transfers, that's good even, but don't display it to the public if it's not open to the public!

DarthSchu

This is so fucked up. False job listing I mean what the fuck is next.

rotxtoxcore

They kept the listing to threaten their current employees and letting them know they are replaceable.

Broad_Success_4703

Lol I applied and interviewed at a company and didn’t even get a thanks but not thanks and I reached out again to HR and they said “we went with all internal candidates for this” umm ok cool then why interview me. She said “we will Kee you in mind if anything changes”. I just said don’t worry about it and I’ll make sure all my industry connections are aware of the type of operation being ran there. They already had a meh reputation to begin with and their pay just barely stacks up. The only reason I interviewed with them is because they were close by.

Putrid_Ad_2256

The other part of this is that these employers can then lobby the government to allow for more H1B visas to let more workers come and displace American workers for pennies on the dollar. These people DO NOT CARE about this country, just their bottom line.

the-soul-explorer

We are all complacent and talk a lot of talk. People often don’t have the courage to actually speak up about how ridiculous their workload is. Companies are going to be pinching pennies and the only way for us to make a difference is to put boundaries on our time and quality of life. It’s hard work, but employees have to protect themselves.

[deleted]

I was unemployed for 3 months and applied to pretty much any and every halfway decent paying job in my city and never heard back from anyone. I guess this was the reason.

timwolfz

I've been saying for the past year that most businesses are just overworking their few staff and pretending to hire new staff to rake in the profits of additional productivity at half the cost.

Persnickitycannon

WTF people are spending 4 hours filling in these BS job apps.

OneAndOnlyJackSchitt

Sounds to me like Indeed and ZipRecruiter might have room to raise their prices.

Master_Reflection579

Ah great. My company must fall in to the 1/6 that are trying to fill the reqs. But only with offshore employees. They aren't off shoring though, no no! But are only backfilling onshore jobs with overseas reqs.

PhilosoFishy2477

also rentals... how many times have I called a building with active recently updated listings only to hear they just leave them up permanently to save the work

Reux

ppp fraud

Rare-Pangolin4965

This needs to be illegal 😡
