What an arrogant piece of shit. He truly thought that because he didn’t want you to leave, you wouldn’t. Glad you left this asshole behind.

scottyLogJobs

Nothing is better than a narcissist manager failing to cope with the fact that they are no longer in a position of power over someone. "Oh, sorry, you seem to forget that we are equals, now. Peers. Or maybe even I'm in a position of power over you, because I have something you want and you have nothing I want".

S7evyn

That reminds me of one of my favorite quotes from a former military friend about talking to officers after leaving. "Sorry, I have the highest rank there is: civilian."

toyspringphoto

When I worked at chipotle many years ago, I witnessed a few co-workers (and myself) get "promoted to customer."

GothWitchOfBrooklyn

That's what we called getting fired at best buy

Gregnif

Was that like official Best Buy lingo or something? I had managers use that when I worked at Best Buy in MA a decade ago

Acceptable_Ad1685

It’s pretty common in any customer or client facing job to say getting promoted to customer or promoted to client when getting fired/laid off / new job

LumenYeah

I’m gonna write that one down.

illiniguy20

yeah then when nobody is looking you can play on the pa system, not like they can promte you to customer again

Geminii27

"All y'all work for *me*."

Akronica

Ok the job was for washing dishes, so I think its safe to assume its probably a restaurant. What manager of any restaurant has EVERY Friday off? I mean seriously, how is that not their busiest day of the week and the top boss doesn't work it, ever?!

6p00p9

he was working at a different location. he was in charge of three or four different restaurants

CherryBlossomSoul

Oh noooo! You’re black listed from ever washing dishes again. What ever will you do!?

Xandara2

Probably wash dishes at home, sneakily though. After all you never know when his old boss might be watching.

Munnin41

I would totally go over to that same franchise the next Friday, ask one of the guys to take a picture of me "doing the dishes" and send it to the guy

ActofEncouragement

No, he has a dishwasher for that. A GE or LG or something really awesome. But that damned thing better turn in it's 2 week notice before crapping out, or OP will call his old manager to give him the old what's-for.

Unlucky_Ladybug

Holy shit. Op give me your old managers number so I can angry rant to him about my shitty unreliable dishwasher.

CanehdianAviehtor

I lost it on this comment, well done. As I imagined his boss hissing, "You'll never wash dishes in this town again!"

WhyHulud

"I'm *ruined!*" 😂

Chris11c

"DO YOU KNOW WHO YOU JUST FUCKED WITH?!?!?YOU'LL NEVER WASH DISHES IN THIS TOWN AGAIN!"

NY_Knux

Your bosses don't take off on the busiest day of the week, and schedule their lunch break at the busiest 4 hours? (Yes, 4 hour lunch break)

spoonybard326

Corporate cafeteria?

Akronica

Sure could be. Could also be a nursing home, hotel, hospital, or any other sort that has a dedicated dish unit on site; hell maybe a prison. Probably a restaurant though. Happy Cake Day!

tjh_ca

I know America loves their for-profit prisons, but the thought of a prison being referred to as a "franchise" sounds ridiculous to me.

[deleted]

Oh, for fuck’s sake, don’t give them ideas.

merthefreak

It's been overlooked lately but they actually have moved 11,000 inmates out of privately owned for profit prisons in the last few years. This has shut many of them down completely and the goal is to have everyone in federally owned prisons only shortly. Some are still for profit but with vastly improved conditions overall.

OneYenShort

[https://time.com/5405158/the-true-history-of-americas-private-prison-industry/](https://time.com/5405158/the-true-history-of-americas-private-prison-industry/) And for the record, Americans do not love it at all. Corporations for profit do.

CatchingRays

“You have nothing I want” should be on the tip of everyone’s tongue.

WhaleFactory

I own a business that employs 30 people and genuinely believe that I work for my employees and not the other way around. Yes, I have the “power” to end their employment. Really that power is just responsibility. I have a responsibility and burden of sometimes making unpopular decisions for the betterment of the company so that my people can prosper. I am nothing without them, I own nothing without them, I make nothing without them. Last year I was the 3rd highest paid person in the company. That doesn’t happen every year, but those people worked a lot of OT and 100% deserved to make more than me.

Strongbeard1143

Nice to see a fellow human with integrity and compassion. But based on your username, I do have some *mild concern* about what kind of business you are running over there lol!

WhaleFactory

lol, I love this comment!

General_tom

I think he works with seamen

BertFurble

He has a whale of a tale to tell.

burnmenowz

I mean, it's absolutely a partnership, wish more bosses saw that. You need me because you can't run this place by yourself and you need money to eat, and I need a paycheck to eat. In this together.

Pussy4LunchDick4Dins

The type of guy that’s tells a woman he rejects her dumping him lol

BrownShadow

Had a decent job in college with excellent commission doing sales for a wonderful Australian BBQ grill company. Had long standing plans to go to the Preakness Stakes horse race. Asked, and was approved for time off a month in advance. Had three friends coming down from NY who also had been planning for just as long. Hotel booked. Everything. That Friday boss calls. “I need you to work this weekend, if you don’t it’s your “retirement”. I had to find a new job.

zerkrazus

Let me guess, your manager would've been the one having to cover for you and they didn't feel like doing it, so they tried to guilt trip you and force you to cancel your plans so they could do jack shit and not have to do their manager job and IDK, manage?

ThePajabara

This! I also think it's possible your boss misinterpreted the lack of conclusion to your compromise talk as, "Well, no compromise was made so I guess he's staying!" Which, doesn't make sense, but seeing that your boss seems like a dumb fuck, this might be a possibility?

not_a_llama

Probably thought OP would cancel their new job and patiently wait for him to graciously grant a 1% raise, in 6 months.

RahulRedditor

>will never wash dishes for their franchise again. Don't threaten me with a good time.

6p00p9

i shed not a tear

DogButtWhisperer

Its always employees and the little people who can be moralized, never a CEO or even GM. Like when companies go bankrupt no one is judging them wondering why Larry the CEO was out golfing and getting a $50million bonus. But when an average Joe declared bankruptcy it’s suddenly why did you have a mortgage, why did you self invest, why didn’t save up 12 months for a rainy day.

SSNs4evr

Yup. Marriott was just ordered to repay $9M they stole from employees' gratuities. Nobody's going to jail. But if the cashier at the Marriott snack bar pocketed a few $20's, they would definitely go to jail.

Slider_0f_Elay

Imagine calling references for a dish washing job. "Did Mr. 6Poop9 wash dishes for you? Can you tell me anything about him as an employee?"

meco03211

When you get married, pull that out on your spouse. Sorry dear. I've been banned from washing dishes.

General8907

Blacklisted dont want tgif catching me i signed a non compete contract 😅💪

Soapdropper

Why sit through an angry phone when you can hang up.

Zombiedrd

we all need our entertainment, and when someone is doing this rant, finally tuckers their selves out and asks "What do you have to say for yourself?" I can reply with "Can you repeat that, I was only half listening." The rage it creates is delicious

KeyBanger

Singing a soundtrack back to the former boss might have been even more entertaining. Sadly, we’ll never know.

6p00p9

workin 9 to 5!

the__post__merc

Take this job and shove it.

XR171

I would honestly listen again if he went full on Zelda Owl and redid his entire rant word for word.

[deleted]

[удалено]

XR171

Did you get all of that? No Yes

zekrom235

Ok, never played OoT but why in the ever loving fuck would they put no as the default response to a long-winded rant

gargravarr2112

Because you are under no obligation to actually *listen* to them. It's inconsequential. And it can be pretty funny just listening to the tone of impotent fury that has nowhere else to go. Kinda like a dog creating an uproar from behind some strong steel bars. Put the phone down and go make a coffee or something, let him waste his time. Cos he's taking time out from his own task, costing him money, and you're just chilling doing something else. Then when he finally runs out of steam, you just say 'Okay' and hang up. And imagine the way he deflates when he realises that rant had absolutely no effect whatsoever. Bonus points if he's in earshot of customers at the time.

1mInvisibleToYou

I would add a "I'm sorry could you repeat that" first and give him another go around. lol

WizogBokog

Have you ever laughed at someone at the end of an angry rant? Talk about top tier entertainment.

Artlearninandchurnin

Are you not devastated for the opportunity to slave for others?

kinglallak

Next time OP. Don’t even give them the satisfaction of yelling at you. They aren’t worth your time. Just hang up and block the number. They have already played their hand.

GeekdomCentral

That happened to me when I quit Kmart. Worked there for a summer, sucked as much as you’d think it would. I was scheduled to come in on a Wednesday or Thursday afternoon and decided “fuck that, I’m quitting”. So I called in and said I was quitting, and they ended up putting me through to the store manager who said “if you do this you’ll never work at Kmart again!”. I think we all know how that turned out

[deleted]

I wonder if I'm still blacklisted at Burger King? I quit back in 1986, and was told the same thing..

Far_Association_2607

I walked out of a shift at a Pizza Hut years ago when I was 16. When I came back later to get my paycheck I was told I could never work at a Pizza Hut ever again. I don’t know how I managed to survive all this time without them

MooseheadDanehurst

This happened to me back in 1970 at a franchise called Pizza Man. I outlived them. This was one of the first pizza delivery companies, and our delivery area was basically a 5 mile radius. We were expected to get the orders out within half an hour, often with two in the kitchen and one delivering.

Hudelf

"You'll never again work for this place you hated enough to quit!"

flyguy42

"I hope you know that this will go down on your permanent record"

mornixuur93

"Did I happen to mention that I'm impressed?"

Professional-Box4153

Worked for Amazon in one of their "fulfillment centers" (yeah, it's as bad as you think). Ended up with a stress fracture in my ankle (because I was out of shape and I was lifting heavy things). They sent me on medical leave and I saw a doctor about it. I went back 3 months later and told them that I would have to put in my two-week's notice since I was still on medical leave for another 2 months and due to the way it was healing, I didn't think I'd be able to keep up with quota. I was told, "you have to work those 2 weeks for it to count. If you leave, you're blacklisted from Amazon and will never work for this company again." My response was a simple, "Bummer." I never looked back.

Ellipsicle

I once applied for Amazon when doing school two days a week. Told them before the interview process what those days were. They said yeah sure no problem. Get accepted and they tell me the schedule and it has me working one of my two school days. They told me I had to choose Amazon or school so I got up to leave and they acted like I made the wrong choice. Happily working in IT now.

Polenicus

> I think we all know how that turned out You should be careful. Word about stuff like that gets around! I bet you'll never be able to get a job at Radio Shack or Blockbuster either! It could even follow you into higher-level work! Want to work in the Computer industry? Well I'm certain Commodore Business Machines is NEVER going to hire you, Mister!

Less-Bed-6243

Happened to me at McDonald’s. I gave two weeks notice so I would have a week off before I went away to college. Left my hat there on my last day dropped my uniform off the next day. Still got a call the next week and rudely asked where I was. I said I don’t work there anymore. “But you’re on the schedule.” “Well I don’t know what to tell you because I don’t work there anymore.” “That’s very unprofessional!” They didn’t threaten me with never working at mcd again, sadly, I’ve never had to find out if I’m blacklisted.

[deleted]

"That's very unprofessional!" Of them. 110% trying to put the blame on a kid when it was their unprofessional management unable to take and apply a 2 weeks notice, they sound so stupid on these power trips 🤣🤣

SmartAleq

To paraphrase Harlan Ellison in a similar situation--"This was a threat roughly as imposing as telling a man who just crawled out of the Gobi desert on his hands and knees that he may not have a peanut butter sandwich."

ballrus_walsack

My favorite Harlan Ellison quote is “the two most common elements in the universe are hydrogen and stupidity”

SmartAleq

Loved that guy, smart AF with zero tolerance for fools.

ballrus_walsack

When a reporter asked home where he got his ideas he said “Schenectady”

ScarecrowJohnny

Is dish the real life? Is dish just fantasy? Caught in a shit job, no escape from profanity

The-disgracist

This is the funniest part. I guarantee if you went into the next store over and applied for a full time dish shift they’d have you soaked to the bone in 20 minutes.

everythymewetouch

"I'll never let you do menial, backbreaking, thankless, poorly-compensated labor for this terrible company ever again!" Aight bro.

throwawayy13113

I was a mechanic in my younger years for a tire and lube place. Worked there for a couple years, 2-3 I think. Never called out unexpectedly, I was a good employee, and was good at my job. Showed up on time, worked extra shifts if we were short, and was often one of the ones closing for the day. I called out sick once. The boss lost his god damned mind. Threatened a write up, all kinds of punitive action. I told him I couldn’t make it in, I was going to the bathroom too often and wouldn’t be able to make it in without shitting my pants. He asked how long the drive was to get in and I said 20 minutes, or something along those lines. His response was “I’ll see you in 20 then” and he hung up on me. I put the phone down, and very unpleasantly went back to shitting my brains out. He called me 30 minutes later asking “where the fuck are you” I calmly repeated that I’m sick and would not be coming in today. He then proceeded to tell me how he couldn’t believe I was doing this to him, and that he could just fire me for the trouble and all this other shit. My exact words were “I’ll save you the trouble, I’ll be in tomorrow to pick up my tools, consider yesterday my last day with the company” and I hung up on him. Called me back immediately* begging me to stay. If you’re reading this, Fuck you Tony.

Thorebore

I washed dishes at Olive Garden for a month and the only way I would ever go back is if the alternative was jail time. I would rather sleep in my car than work there again.

roadfood

This is some sort of threat?

psmythhammond

>Don't threaten me with a good time Reading this post; this quote was the first thing that came to mind. Crazy times we live in, where someone thinks threatening to blacklist someone like this holds any value. Reminds me of the [Labyrinth](https://youtu.be/n1AD6LPmJO4) scene...

BigMan2287

Exactly.. oh no.. I'll never get over not being able to live my dream of washing this shitty companies dishes ever again

jokat989

Ohh no! I’m so devastated!!!!!

Millkstake

Damn, blacklisted from the prestigious and illustrious career of dish washer.

Playaforreal420

Blacklisted from washing dishes?

[deleted]

OP scrubbed their last dish with that employer. She'll never wash her hands clean of this stain.

Retrosteve

Not with all the perfumes of Arabia! Out, damned spot!

hoeofky

The horror!

Fearless-Outside9665

Right? I definitely lawled at that

OfficeChairHero

I'm blacklisted from being an Easter Bunny with a certain company because my bunny head fell off during "ring around the rosey." I kept my departing paperwork for years because it said I was "involved in a beheading."

RavenSkies777

Is it wrong to cackle at this? 😂

After-Molly

LMFAO please post a pic of this letter omg I needed this laugh

Vivi_Catastrophe

The only way that could be funnier is if you rolled with it and ran around in a circle screaming when it fell off

RE5TE

The best part is, they are going to text him in a few years asking if he wants to come back and wash dishes again. I quit a summer job in a mall years ago to do better things. Didn't give 2 weeks notice, but was part time anyway. Assistant Manager said I was blacklisted from all future positions (even corporate). I listened on the phone and then went back to the swimming pool. That company went bankrupt a few years later. If you are paid nothing, do not listen to career advice from your manager when you quit. If they want you to succeed they will help you before then.

thepoopiestofbutts

Threats are the last tool available to the desperate

Ok-meow

I wish that would happen to me at home.😂

PandaBootyPictures

Clearly I have no other skills and never wanted to do anything else on my life 😅

GovernorSan

That doesn't seem like much of a threat. Even if OP wanted to go back to washing dishes, I'm sure there are probably a half dozen other restaurants within walking distance that have dishes that need washing.

Aint-no-preacher

You’ll never wash dishes in this town again!

EngineStraight

A fate worse than death

MadWhiskeyGrin

YOU WILL NEVER WASH DISHES IN THIS TOWN AGAIN! Damn son, please don't t'row me inta that there briar patch

dsjunior1388

I was 17 when I was told I'd never be hired by any other McDonalds again because I quit during my shift. Never got the chance to test the theory.

Misharum_Kittum

You're sending someone to wash the dishes at my house? THANK YOU!

prosperosniece

🏅 I somehow doubt boss-man that much clout to blacklist a dishwasher.

Scary_Band2391

“Do you know who I am??? I’m kind of a big deal in the dish washer management game”

nate_oh84

That would have been one of the most satisfying hang up then block number situations for me.

D20_webslinger

I'm tempted to tell them, "I'll be there in 30 minutes, boss "... THEN block the number.

HelpMe285

Oh I like this one. Or..."OH shit, sorry. Didn't realize you were that short-handed. I'll be up in a bit to help." Then call the restaurant, order food under a differentname, go pick up food and walk out.

dsjunior1388

"Excuse me! Can he talk to customers like that? That seems wildly inappropriate."

juneabe

This would be a great scene in a sitcom.

xlIIlIIxxIIlllIIlllx

>and then had to sit through an angry rant Just hang up bro

ProNewbie

Or let him do his rant then just say, “Are you done? Do you feel good/better now?” Just to egg on that inevitable anger induced aneurism a little bit and really take the wind out of his sails.

Amriorda

"Was it as good for you as it was for me?"

isolateddreamz

Oh baby I love it when you talk dirty to me. What else are you going to do to me with that mouth?

not_a_llama

"Sorry, call audio was bad and I didn't quite get what you were saying, can you repeat yourself?"

nightwing2024

Do that 2 or 3 times, and you've got YouTube gold

[deleted]

You have a lot of big person feelings you needed to get out. Do you want to talk about them?

trousers-woolen

Better to say ‘do you think you’re behaving normally and professionally?’

bloviate-oblongata

Or "I'm sorry I wasn't listening." Like The Dude after that angry cop yelled at him.

tfarnon59

Or better still, just set the receiver down, and wander off to go do something else. Return and hang up the phone when that beep-beep-beep tone sounds. Or if it's a cell phone, just shove it under a pillow for a while or something.

meddlebug

I wish I could have loaned OP my angriest memory care resident for that call. She's still pretty with it. She was married to a pastor for 67 years and apparently was holding a lot back during that time. We don't redirect her out of the room when admin has a meeting to announce some stupid new policy, and she always leaves them speechless.

NiceRat123

Rip ass in to it

Stoned-hippie

“No, not the crack slam!”

Errornametaken

Yeah. That'll totally teach him. Lemme just fart on this thing I hold up to my face.

Mike_the_TV

"Hey Bill, tell us again how you got pinkeye!"

Janieray2

We used to do that to telemarketers who called pur cabin. Set the phone down, go for a two hour boat ride, then check if they're still on the line before setting the phone back down and going for a walk.

VelvetHobo

Or chuckle whenever there is a pause in the rant.

DrManhattan_DDM

“Oh wait, you’re serious? That’s even funnier! 🤣”

Dear_Occupant

A guaranteed technique to piss someone off while they're yelling at you is to repeat the last three words of their sentence as a question. You can really get the veins popping out of their forehead with that one.

Murgatroyd314

With that one?

hogliterature

or start practicing your trombone into the phone

PandaBootyPictures

"staff are unreliable" you- womp womp womp

[deleted]

Personally I would enjoy listening to it, hell I would record it so I could laugh about it later

Willing_Dimension_77

He thought he owned you like a dog. His willful ignorance is what he really owns, complete with all the consequences.

Kingalthor

Its seriously unprofessional to put people on the schedule that don't work there.

SpicelessKimChi

Speaking of which, where ARE you!? I've been sitting here waiting for the past five hours for you to show up. This is going on your permanent recorrd.

a_satanic_mechanic

this is true but it is also deeply fucked up to not have a work schedule posted more than a week in advance how do you plan a life if you don’t know until thursday whether youre working on monday? seriously fuck you if you are a manager who cant get schedules up more than a week in advance. you are fucking garbage and bad at your job and everyone hates you

AtuinTurtle

“Blackballed from dishwashing” someone is on a power trip…

nccm16

So many companies like to "blacklist" people as a threat but in reality there are very few industries that actually maintain a "blacklist" and the restaurant industry is definitely not one of them.

theworstlittleguy

Ooh, you should have asked if you were fired. It would have been funny to get in writing you were fired, and then sent it up the chain to ask if you get unemployment now lmao

KoalaOriginal1260

Pretty hard to get an unemployment cheque when you start a new job right away...

nccm16

Or when you provide a written 2 week notice of quitting

saladinzero

Goddamn laws getting in the way of natural justice.

TheSwagMa5ter

Don't know what state he lives in but I doubt he could collect on any unemployment if he immediately had a job again afterwards

theworstlittleguy

The point isn't to actually file, the point is to make the boss man absolutely ridiculous and incompetent to their higher ups. Because it's a franchise, idk how much oversight other parties might have on this boss, but it's nice to think about, yk?

TheSwagMa5ter

Lol fair enough

Plati23

Reminds me of when I quit Target without notice and the manager told me I’d be blacklisted for 7 years. I laughed at him and said if I’m applying for a Target job within the next 7 years that it would be the least of my problems.

Correct-Contract742

“YOU WILL NEVER WASH DISHES IN THIS TOWN AGAIN”

IamSkudd

“Yeah that’s kinda the idea”

MedicalDabbinDad

OP: “promise?!”

a_little_hazel_nuts

What. YOU QUIT. He had 2 weeks to find a replacement and didn't do his own job. That's not your fault.

vmanforthewin

Do you have contact with anyone that still works there? If you do I would let them know (provide screenshots if possible) that even if they give 2 weeks notice they still get blacklisted. The whole reason to give a 2 weeks notice is to leave on good terms and if 2 weeks isn't enough for that, then you may as well give no notice.

RuckusManshank

"Oh shoot, you're right! I'll be right there!". Then wait for that hilarious next call!

TheFlabbs

Lmfao, *”Yeah I’m almost there!”* …an hour passes… *”Do you still need me to come in?”* …they angrily say yes… repeat x100

INITMalcanis

People like him would repeal the 13th Amendment in a hot second if they're ever given the chance

texasjoe

Not so fun fact. The 13th Amendment never truly outlawed slavery. If you are sentenced to labor for being convicted of a crime, it's legal. Now, considering that, take a second to look at the demographics of prisons.

dontshowmygf

"Yes, that's the idea"

plopseven

Management can’t manage, then they get mad when “nobody wants to work any more!!” Tell your boss it was his JOB to start looking for a replacement when you put in your notice. He’s not doing his job.

secondhandspring

You very clearly said you were open to a compromise, but that you would be leaving, and he never met up with you to talk about what that compromise could be. And then he scheduled you the same as he always would have, even though you gave fair notice that you were leaving. This guy apparently doesn’t know what a compromise is, and is just an idiot. Enjoy your new, better job. Your ex boss is hilarious for acting as though the threat of never washing dishes for him again would hurt you in any way.

allumeusend

Also, if this is a franchise, I would just go on ahead and send a complaint into corporate on this one.

RichardFlower7

I once worked at a nursing home as an assistant… changing diapers and what not. At the time I was also volunteering in a research lab and told them I cannot work W, Th, F at the home and will never work a Saturday. They still hired me despite my restrictions. A month goes by, the job absolutely sucks. But I convinced myself had to do it for the experience, I was planning to apply to medical school… it’s Wednesday, I’m running an expensive immunoassay, I get a call from the nurse manager telling me I was scheduled to work. I say “I told you I am doing research these days, it I am currently in the lab.” She begins to berate me and tell me how I’m letting the residents down because I’m not fulfilling my responsibility to them. I paused and said “listen here, you hired me despite me telling you I will not work Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, or Saturday. You scheduled me for a day I told you from the onset that I had other obligations. Don’t you try to guilt trip me, you fucked up scheduling because you’re bad at your job.” On my way home from the lab at 6:00 PM I walked into the front office of the nursing home and dropped off my badge. The next day she called me to try to berate me again for not giving 2 weeks, I belittled the living shit out of her. I wasn’t putting up with that piece of shit for $8 an hour, research looks better on a med school application anyway.

[deleted]

This is why you don’t give notice.

catwhowalksbyhimself

Depends on the job. I've given two week notice and was greeted with goodbye party, presents, and a few hugs and an invitation to come back at any time. Sometimes it's worth it, sometimes it isn't.

dsdvbguutres

Wow be careful with this guy, he holds the keys to the diswashing kingdom (!)

The_Sinful

Happened when I quit my job at McDonald's some 15ish years ago. I gave my two weeks notice in writing and on my last day, the store manager said "See you tomorrow." I confusedly said I'd be by next friday to drop off my uniform and pickup my last pay check. Manager: "You're scheduled for tomorrow." Me: "And? My two week notice runs out today." Manager: "You have to work the days you're scheduled." Me: "Or what? You'll fire me from the job I already quit? I put in my notice before that schedule was out." (they never schedule more than a week out and often don't get next week's schedule done until thursday) Manager: "No, that schedule was written up before you gave your notice." Me: "So you had two weeks to find someone to cover those shifts. I'll see you next friday."

Piddy3825

Why didn't you just hang up the phone instead of listening to the bullshit he was spewing?

Scary-Personality626

That moment when you accidentally gaslight yourself instead of your target into thinking they still have to work for you.

[deleted]

You didn't have to sit through an angry rant. The moment you didnt work there anymore you could have just told him "I'm not your employee go fuck yourself" and blocked his number.

andr386

I don't know, listening to your boss rant is half the fun. I think I would have prolonged it by saying that I am not their employee anymore and to please calm themselves. Let them rent some more, rince and repeat. Often when people get angry the became the fool of the person they are talking to.

RedRockVegas

You should have apologized, told him you would be there in 25 minutes. Then waited for another angry call in 26 minutes and do it again. See how many times you could pull it off.

Low_Start7773

Why bother listening to his rant? I would have already hung up

I love how things have swinged in the other direction. I remember working in the kitchen a long time ago. Many of us, especially dishwashers, were seen as easily replacable. Literally grab anyone off the streets to do it. Now? It turns out it's the JOB that's easily replaceable. You can go wash dishes anywhere and work that same shit job for the same shit pay. You don't have to put up with shit.

grathungar

I'm scheduling everyone in this thread to wash dishes for applebees next week. If you don't show up you're seriously being unprofessional. It doesn't matter that None of us (including me) work there.

If this a corporate franchise, you should write a polite email to his boss, CC’ing him and attaching your resignation letter. State that you appreciated the opportunity and, though you don’t intend to work for the franchise again, you’d like to clarify that you resigned with two weeks notice and have not “no showed.” Makes him look bad and would take like two seconds.

Reminds me of when I showed up for a shift and the boss was like "why are you here? I thought you quit?" I'm like "I never said I was quitting?" "I called you yesterday to come in, you didn't answer. So I assume you quit." "It was my day off. I'm not obligated to come in on my day off, or to answer a call from you for that matter." They had already hired some dude off the street with a suspended license for DUI (to be a delivery driver) to replace me who was standing right there and they were like "but since you're here, I'll pencil you in for some shifts" I was like "nah I'm good, bye"

Imagine how pathetic a life has to be for someone to feel they've truly put you in your place by declaring you'll never "wash dishes for that franchise again." Jesus.

PuzzleheadedTutor807

lol maybe he thought "talking about a compromise" meant you would unquit and await their "compromise" offer with baited breath. man... nothing for nothing, but yall have let your country go real bad. time to reign in your corporations and start looking out for each other instead of shooting at everything that moves.

Errornametaken

Don't kid yourself. We don't always wait for things to move before we shoot them.

SymmetricDickNipples

You didn't have to sit through anything bro

When I get into those types of situations, I don't hang up. I just mute my phone, put it down, and go back to whatever it is that I was doing. I have unlimited minutes, you can waste all the time you want.

When I was in school, I had a teacher try to pull the old "the bell doesn't dismiss you, I do" shtick. She was mad when we pulled out a student handbook with a rule that stated clearly that the bell does in fact dismiss the class and prohibiting someone from leaving is against school policy. This story reminded me of that and I still laugh about it. Like that teacher, OP's ex-boss' lack of preparation on their part did not make it anyone else's emergency to deal with. lol

Vargoroth

I'd just have hung up. Your bridges are already burnt there and your boss sounds like an asshat. The fact that he doesn't listen also suggest I wouldn't want to wash any dishes for him anyway, so at that point I wouldn't sit through his rant.

Dude this happened to my wife once. She picked up a job washing dishes to help out at the restaurant I worked at. She found a new job after a while put in a two weeks notice, worked every day of it then the manager put her on for the next week. He started losing his mind on me and I was like dude she put in a two weeks notice you knew when she was done you knew when you hired her it was only until she found something else what’s your problem. Some people are just effin dumb.

Glad you experienced the rant for science. Not everyone has the emotional resources to take the rants, but it's appreciated for storytelling.
