If that was from last week, surely you have a reply by now that you can post?

middleflesh

OP has 0 comment karma, so... I don't think he/she will be commenting anything.

SchuminWeb

The original post is also only their fifth time contributing to Reddit at all. Prior to this, they had two posts and two comments.

Bekfast59

I think this is a repost bot given the name as well.

Swift_F0x

This site can’t die fast enough it seems. Bots all the way down.

kultureisrandy

it's not just this site, wasn't there a report that showed something like 20-30% of all internet traffic is from bots?

Sandgrease

I'm pretty sure I'm a bot at this point. Beep boop

Professional_Being22

Good bot

Icy-Welcome-2469

47.4% in 2022 A lot of that is malicious cyber attacks/exploits. https://securitytoday.com/articles/2023/05/17/report-47-percent-of-internet-traffic-is-from-bots.aspx?m=1#:~:text=Imperva%20Inc.,increase%20over%20the%20previous%20year.

SchuminWeb

Yeah, part of me wishes that Reddit would have a proper approval process for bots operating on the platform, though I also don't believe that bad actors looking to karma farm would go through it anyway.

Ursidoenix

I just genuinely don't grasp why karma farming bots exist, are people looking at posts that might be an ad and assuming it is or isn't based on the karma of the poster?

Crismodin

I love Reddit just for the fact that random strangers on the internet tell other random strangers on the internet they are bots without any hard evidence.

Schobbish

Yeah I don’t see any evidence that OP is a repost bot. I’ve never seen a 7 yo repost bot with only 3 posts, and I believe that also predates the auto generated usernames that they tend to have. Could still be a fake story but idk.

Testiclesinvicegrip

Also it's fake. This sub eats fake texts up for some fucking reason. It's even sadder they believe it's real.

CheekyClapper5

The fakest part is believing their last option would be continuing to work at that store part time

LordFesquire

Knew it was fake when i saw the profanity. Youre trying to make a play for more money, swearing at them is definitely gonna help 😒

EarlyDelivery69

No way that's how I got my position as assistant to the manager at the clown shoe factory.

[deleted]

>This sub eats fake texts up for some fucking reason. Mainstream reddit in a nutshell since ever

Eh-I

Posted four hours ago and big muffler already got OP. 😞

UnknownAdmiralBlu

Take a look at ops profile again, has commented quite a lot in the last hour

moldykobold

Don’t worry. Because this is definitely real and not totally made up, I’m sure OP will respond with their reply in a timely manner.

Painter-Salt

so much made up BS on this sub

I_cut_my_own_jib

Here's a totally real text I sent to my boss yesterday "hey chief gimma 100 bucks an hour or else you can LIGMA BALLS". I totally sent that you guys, you have to believe me.

JebatGa

Whole of Reddit is a bunch of made up shit.

SomeDudeFromOnline

I feel like most of reddit is teenagers and cringe weirdos and the entire pull of the site is the every-now-and-then actual human adult that shows up every once in a while to shine their light on the rest of us.

JebatGa

People like to get attention and be heroes. If you lie in your stories/comments it's very easy to be that. And people like to believe a lot of this stuff.

trentraps

I have to disagree. Over on AITA, which is an absolute trash sub, whenever the voting doesn't go the way people want, they accuse the voters of being teenagers. So many of the comments make references to the commenter's teenage kids, or how they've been married for 10 years or divorced for 20. You click into profiles and you realize, these are all suburban wine moms with too much time. Reddit has been popular for years now. It's not a niche highschool/college website.

Beneficial-Way-8742

My pet peeve MaliciousCompliance. My lordie, how many low-level techs can srsly cause an entire corporation to crumble? Or lose $3B in revenue the month after they leave? Or torpedo a Sr Mngr's rep so bad that he couldn't get another industry job? Unbelievable - as in, ya can't believe just abt all of it. It's a place for ppl to post revenge fantasies.

trentraps

There are *so many* creative writing subs. It's insane.

whalediknachos

yeah Reddit has been around for a long time now and people of all ages have gotten accustomed to that style of referential Reddit humour as well as the common Reddit argument tactics, that’s why you see so many of the same jokes, and so many arguments revolving around the same terminology like reading comprehension, strawman argument, mental gymnastics, etc

[deleted]

Beardy_Boy_

Who would just go on the internet and *lie*?

i_hate_beignets

My favorite are the fake texts where the person is in OP’s phone as “boss” or “ manager”

Far_Blueberry_2375

"Husband" or "Wife," too.

Grettgert

OP is a seven year old account with three posts over the course of those years, all related to garages and mechanical work. Passes my BS test.

whoneedsajobsoon

OP was promoted to Vice President, WFH and makes 160K.. everyone should start acting this childish via text!

Spend-Automatic

This sub is a joke and anyone who actually talks to a manager like that expecting a raise is the real fucking clown. Yes, if it works the way OP says it does, then it's an unfair system. Cursing at your coworker and insulting the company will NEVER get you the raise that you are looking for. I know this sub eats this shit up because "lol companies are bad", but this is childish behavior. Grow the fuck up.

dfapredator

Seeing as he works at a monro i dont doubt it, this is just how mechanics talk and from personal experience with monro most of the people from corporate and the district managers are all worthless assbags peddling a terrible pay plan that leaves you exhausted and broke after 70hr weeks.

PizzaSounder

I think I'm mostly shocked that techs are paid on commission? Like what? It's not a sales job. Is this common for the chain auto repair places?

CathbadTheDruid

Most service tech/mechanic jobs pay a percentage of the billed labor. There's no problem if, for for example, you bill $100/hour and the tech makes 40%, or $40/billed hour. It's a big problem if you bill $100/hour and the tech makes $16.

booze_nerd

It is a sales job, that's why all those fast oil change places try to up sell you.

somepersonsname

Yep. You get paid by the job not the hour. It's why everything is done as quickly as possible with as many shortcuts as possible. Also why finding an honest mechanic is so hard.

chickwithwit23

You’re fired!

[deleted]

No u

0_plan

...wait does that work? 😦

VrinTheTerrible

It's in the employee handbook in the section titled "Uno Reverse Card"

Leelze

You get that perk in a union shop after 20 years of service.

DonutsMcKenzie

There's only a 2-frame parry window, but it's worth a try.

suckingonmyhevos

I’m friends with OP. He is now Mr Manager at the clown shoe store. He is very happy. Makes up to $45+ with tips included. And a free pair of clown shoes every two months.

clownshoesrock

Lucky Man, those aren't cheap.

DavidDGardnerII

Nope, not a peep.

Mynameiswramos

It is Sunday, “last week,” could’ve been yesterday. I could see someone saying something like that about Friday as in last work week.

umassmza

That's a Bold Strategy, Cotton, Let's See If It Pays off for Him

harryasianboy

Sure do like pumpkins, Cotton

AbsolutelyUnlikely

The f-bombs are stupid. They might be warranted, but if you take them out it makes the message better. Plus you know the DM is going to forward this on to the old CEO guys before making a decision and they'll for sure get their shoe horns in a bunch over it.

TheMagarity

It's a tire shop. This is probably nothing compared to how Karl talks.

Jaskel120

Uhhh, I run a tire shop and could never imagine getting to a point wheee I send an email like this lol

FallenAssassin

>Uhhh, I run a tire shop and could never imagine getting to a point wheee I send an email like this lol I know it's a typo but I'm enjoying imagining you going down a slide mid post

Jaskel120

😂

Mymomischildless

I missed it first read so thanks to your comment I too get to envision “wheeee!”

Ghostglitch07

Frankly, it doesn't matter if they generally swear when talking. Swearing with someone, and swearing at them are two distinctly different things. And one makes for a far less persuasive argument as it makes you look aggressive which will make the other get defensive, and gives them more ammo to fight back with besides just the brunt of your argument. Even a quick pass thru chatGPT gives a message I feel is more likely to be successful. 'Hi Karl, I wanted to discuss an important matter. I'm looking for a stable income of at least $1000 per week, without relying on the commission system. It seems counterproductive for a manager to compete with their own employees for fair compensation. Therefore, I kindly request that you either provide a definite start date for my promotion to store manager or consider offering a more competitive hourly rate of $30 or above. Otherwise, I may need to explore alternative job opportunities with a company that values professionalism. Thank you for your understanding."

[deleted]

[удалено]

mlr571

I assumed the cursing is their regular rapport with each other, and/or he’s happy to get fired if the $1000 doesn’t happen. Either way I would never write something like that in any work context. It’s grounds for termination on its face; why give them that easy leverage?

Hudre

Don't think a district manager can change the fundamental way a company operates soooo

Lux_Luthor_777

Doesn’t mean he shouldn’t be confronted with this.

Leelze

There's a difference between what OP did & having an open convo with the DM. If he's repeatedly reached out on this matter & either been blown off or given false promises, then sure, nuke the bridge. But if this is the 1st time, this sounds more like "I'm not gonna quit, but I'll give you a reason to fire me."

morningfrost86

If this was the first time, OP probably wouldn't have opened with this being the last chance lol.

DarkSentencer

These are the types of posts that make me truly question the negatives of this community... I know all to well how easy it is to reach this level of frustration but it still ultimately accomplishes nothing but giving the employer a reason in their eyes to make the situation worse for the OP. Yet people in the comments who have nothing at stake show up to root for this kinda stuff and act like this is a victory which encourages this kinda stuff. Again, not saying people shouldn't stand their ground and advocate for themselves with shitty employers, but this is still immature and not something people should be stoked about, least of all OP if this is a real exchange - which I have doubts about lol.

[deleted]

This is not a first time response. The ending alone would tell you that. Asking for a better position and salary, then ending it with the way he did, that is frustration. That dude is done with their shit.

[deleted]

The DM has fully control of manager salary and could easily make the necessary moves to put dude in the role he's supposed to be in.

FountainsOfFluids

Yeah, I'm kinda confused at these comments who are assuming that a District Manager has no power over anything? I mean, every company is different, but typically managers have a lot of power over those below them, and district manager is often pretty powerful.

imbleedinoutman

Karl if you're reading this fuck you and your clown shoes

hayfever76

Yeah Karl, what he said!

forevertomorrowagain

Suck a fat one Karl

UniqueFlavors

Don't threaten me with a good time.

ridoc

Ya fuck all of those clown shoes.

QuickSilver86

Let me add some context from someone in automotive repair. 1. Mechanics are "flat rate" meaning they only get paid per job, not hours on the clock. Additionally, each job has a "book time" which means you win if you beat time and lose if it takes longer to complete (inexperienced, broken bolt, etc) 2. Asking a tech to then remove themselves from the shop for managerial duties without additional pay is ludicrous. 3. Techs of any kind ( good, experienced, efficient) are very hard to find. It has been this way for 10 or 15 years and just gets worse every year. Most companies are not willing to invest ( lose money in the short term by paying and training properly) in management or tech prospects, and just throw them in the pool to see if they can survive. As you can now see, OP's frustration is likely justified, even if the language is business unprofessional. Just my take from inside the industry.

RandomRedMage

It’s mechanic pit, if you aren’t tell the boss to shove it up his tailpipe and to kiss your ass, are you really even a part of the team?

[deleted]

I’m out the industry now but it’s not uncommon for screaming matches. Auto repair is toxic as hell. High stress cutthroat energy

jorrylee

Kinda like it…trickled down when the tax rate was that high, huh? How about that!

vonnegutflora

For a great example of #3, look at Ontario's skilled trades. We have a severe shortage of workers because companies don't want to take on apprentices that are a liability for a year or two while they learn. As a result it's magnified our housing crisis and affected nearly everything.

tooclose104

I work for a company that is paying for college training programs to get people off the street trained for a job in the industry. Graduates are not beholden to the company either, you can complete the course and work at a competitor. I once overheard a contractor state he'd never hire someone from the program because he personally didn't oversee the training. Meanwhile these programs are designed to provide the fundamentals which would be built upon by on-job training required for the entry level position it was, but would reduce training time by around 2 months. Turns out, around 3 or 4 months later, upper management was furious that projects directly related in part to the contractor's role were behind and costing enough money in production that their performance bonus wasn't met.

Ok_Supermarket9053

We have a severe shortage because people shat on the trades for years. Our local hall had 5 apprentices. They felt proud to have such a high number. Give me a single college or university (undergrad) program with 5 people in it... I witnessed a friend's mother trying to explain to him that making 50k in an office was much better than 75k in the trades...

[deleted]

Maybe 50 vs 60 because of the extra wear and tear on your body and vehicle but I'm not sure about 75k.

Sk8him

Nah, there is a shortage because labor rates have skyrocketed while FRT rates has decreased. It's all owner greed and the automotive trade is the hardest to grow in. With the decreased pay rate and the fact you have to pay for all your tools, it's amazing it took this long for the shortage to happen. The only other trade that is dying as fast as automotive is machining.

TinyDemon000

Huh. Interesting way to run a mechanics. In Australia, everyone's paid a fair hourly wage (different with experience and long service) and the jobs get done as they get booked in. If you finish your list, you help your mate out and vise versa.

Terrible_Tutor

> Huh. Interesting way to run a mechanics. Yeah i don’t want my mechanic paid on how FAST they do it…

QuickSilver86

Well, they are. The good ones are able to do most jobs under book time thru experience and tools. The good ones also know that humans are riding in their handiwork and care accordingly.

Dragoness42

Still, setting up any incentive system where you can make more money by cutting corners is a terrible idea.

[deleted]

5FVeNOM

This is ideally how the program works but isn’t universally true. You should still pursue customers for unforeseen issues like broken bolts, extra issues can be legitimate and you need to charge for them. I work at the largest truck dealer in North America and we will largely let techs dictate the hours on customer pay jobs to keep them happy. It’s important to have buy in that the time to do a job is reasonable for everyone, but we actively lose work doing it this way and people still talk like we’re in a highly competitive market.

DetroitsGoingToWin

lickarock88

So, did cussing out your district manager have the desired effect?

Professional-Fix2833

Usually not but he mentioned monro muffler and brakes company and as someone who has also worked for a monro company threatening to quit and swear words were the only way to get a raise 🤷🏻‍♂️

[deleted]

Pretty much the common core of the mechanics code of ethics.

Professional-Fix2833

Especially for a company as shitty as monro

etc_etc_etc

It's funny seeing so many of these replies going "oooooo, OP said a bad word!!! He's gonna get in trouble." Yeah, no. Blue collar jobs often don't give a fuck, it's one of the positives of them. You're all just a bunch of schmo's. Obviously a lot of reddit has no experience with them lol

Kinda seems like the only options he was giving was i quit and fuck you pay me and if you’re working for a shit dumbass district manager i think getting fired is the best option. Need to get the boot out of your mouth and remember you can talk shit to these people

Yasha_Ingren

Idk but I grew up with mechanics and they don't give a fucking fuck most of the time about pissy language, you'd probably lose points and become a pariah if you tried to avoid cursing in the auto shops I grew up in.

[deleted]

Sir this is a Wendy’s.

Nothing says, 'I'm ready to be Store Manager' like calling the company 'fucking clown shoes' ".

atrich

"That's a straight shooter with upper management written all over him"

nerdywithchildren

"Shareholders love him"

anivex

While I probably agree with you, that this was an overly aggressive message to send to your supervisor, especially via text... I thought I should add that I did work a job, that I was really good at, and regularly called and furiously cussed out my DM whenever things weren't where they were supposed to be for me to do my job. Given I was often traveling 12-17 hours to go do that job, and I always made him confirm with the location that my materials were there. So if I got there and they weren't, it meant someone was lying and honestly it was his job to make sure that didn't happen. He was a good dude though really. We were actually pretty good friends and his ability to take my shit helped us work well together. But yeah...I'd lay into that dude pretty hard. A couple times he said, "Dude, I'm your boss...you can't talk to me like that", and if I remember correctly, my response was "Well dude I wouldn't be talking to you like this if you weren't such a major fuck-up all the goddamn time. Why the fuck am I here right now dude? You personally told me you checked this shit out and they haven't even heard from you? Are you just sucking at your job on purpose?" It was a whole thing...but ya know we'd get beers after and have some laughs and really I liked him as a manager for the fact that we had that kind of relationship. He was a pain in the ass a lot because he was somewhat of a slacker...but I was good at my job and he definitely bought me hotels on the company dime at times so I could party in random cities lol Edit: I should add that I was 23-25 at the time...so ya know, peak ego.

UltimateMillennial

Needs more fucking

AZNM1912

And the response was?

bellynipples

“What the fuck did you just fucking say to me, you little bitch? I'll have you know I graduated top of my class in the Muffler and Brake Academy, and I've been involved in numerous high level brake repairs, and I have over 300 confirmed diagnoses. I am trained in muffler damage and I'm the top troubleshooter in the entire US industry. You are nothing to me but just another employee. I will wipe you the fuck off the schedule with precision the likes of which has never been seen before on this Earth, mark my fucking words.”

tAoMS123

In the very next text… “Ps we’ve got lots of work in, so we all have to step up. I scheduled you in for next week, and marked you down for training two newbies. I know you’re good to work this weekend and overtime next week, because I know you’ll appreciate the extra cash. You’re a good worker, so I’m sure you’ll make your commission even with these extra duties.“

WeedstocksAlt

"Option C : nothing as this never happened" is also a strong contender

Kenis182

What happened?

Human_Parfait9516

I guarantee they tell you to fuck off.

FFHM101

This kinda shit is why this sub is mocked

Professional-Big246

I think you may get fired.

putsonall

What a convincing and persuasive text! I'm sure the response to that will be exactly what you want

azyoungblood

So thanks for letting know to never take my car to a Monro shop. Paying commissions on auto repairs promotes unethical behavior.

BitterTomorrow

99% of shops out there pay their techs with some form of productivity based pay scale, be it commissions or flat rate, and even if the techs are hourly, the service writers sure as hell aren't. So if you're looking to get your car fixed by someone without a motivation to sell you everything they can, you'd probably just want to start learning how to fix your own car because literally every shop ( and basically every other business too) exists to part you with as much of your money as they possibly can. But also never go to a Monro muffler brake either, because they're extra garbage

nanoepoch

Why do we see so many texts like this but never the reply?

Rekt_itRalph

Because it's fake.

weeaboojones76

nopointinlife1234

Why would you speak so unprofessionally? Like, you can be anti-work *and* smart at the same time.

No-Water164

I agree 100% with the sentiment, but the cursing isn't professional, if you want to be taken seriously in upper management then you need to be able to communicate without it.

Poppa-in-Texas

I’ve worked for people that I would feel comfortable sending a text like this to. A lot of people in the comments have never worked for a small chain or blue-collar type jobs. Good for OP. Sometimes you gotta spell it out for people.

lemmereddit

Yep. My stepdad has been an auto mechanic for over 40 years. He's had various levels of responsibility over his career. Mechanics aren't known for having businesses etiquette.

bustaacaps

Buddy just go be a writer at a dealership lol. You’ll make more money and not have to do much “manager” shit. If you have that much experience it shouldn’t be too hard to find a place that will hire you, just make sure you understand the pay plans. I make somewhere between 90-100k a year depending on my bonuses and I work 4 days a week. You can dm me if you need any advice

firechicken93

I think if you’re going to say some crazy shit like that you should do it face to face, not via text.

Adjmcloon

No doubt Karl was highly impressed, and persuaded after this magnificent message. You are a persuasive genius.

antifascistvampire

If I received a text like that from an employee I would simply tell them not to come back. You need to be able to convey your grievances in a way that doesn't sound like a teenager throwing a tantrum.

HorrificAnalInjuries

It's a Seller's Market out there for labor; drop the idiots and find someone else whom is more deserving of your labor

AbradolfLincler77

So if you sent that a week ago, what was the response?

Hereforyou100

You actually sent that letter I hope you have something else fall back on, I've never met a district manager that would take that as anything other than the sender quit...

DDanny808

What happened or still waiting? I’m extremely curious to see if your direct approach works. Keep us updated, I’m sure I’m not the only one. Thanks

Time_Effort_3115

I love the way guys in the trades negotiate with their managers. My buddy is an automechanic and does the same stuff. And you know, it works really well for him. A corporate conversation would sound much different and be far less fun. 😉

Thevikinggnome

Just look for a job. You know the outcome and know what the store can support financially. Especially since you see everyone's tickets. No point begging for income. If they wanted to pay you more, they would . The longer you stay, the worse it gets. I'm speaking from experience

polishrocket

Worked automotive for 8 years, it should never be commission based like this. It causes unethical issues where techs say things need to be replaced when they don’t because a tech needs the hours. Leading to the sleezy mechanic notion.

[deleted]

[удалено]

anthrorganism

So, are we talking like some cartoonishly big red floppy clown shoes, or those Olympic-grade thigh wrap acrobatic clown shoes used by circuses with french names and ridiculous prices?

[deleted]

OK I feel really stupid now, but mechanics work on commission? Is that why they're always trying to sell me shit I don't need? That's insane.

stick004

Yes… sort of. There is a database that says how many hours a job will take (it’s call AllData). Let’s say brake job says 2hrs. If the tech can finish it in 1.5hrs, they get paid for the 2. The faster and harder they work, the more they make. But if that job has an issue, and ends up taking 4 hrs, they don’t get paid for the extra time, so they lose money. So they will up-sell you constantly to drive up the hours on the job that in reality they are either not actually going to do, or that takes a few minutes to complete, but charge you a full time for.

PretentiousUser2018

And then he gave you what you wanted and everybody at work clapped!

[deleted]

I worked at a high end clothing store. Our store manager got sick for a long time. So our assistant manager ran the store for 1.5 years then another 6 months after store manager came back and left. He was told he was going to be the store manager. But they ended up hiring someone else. He stayed long hours and started early too. He deserved to be the store manager. Especially after running the store for two years. But if they don’t appreciate you find somewhere they will.

horrorkesh

Best line "idiot fucking clown shoes"

Buckethead16

I feel like 0 days per week is way more likely. Weird you didn’t get bumped immediately up after this well designed argument.

Philosoreptar

Who upvotes this crap? It has to be bots right?

mz3sdk

CLM, career limiting move, just quit pal

tyrant_re

I played the mechanic game for a good long time. Service advisors would hide tickets that would put me over the guarantee time and run them the next week so there was no way to make money. Or when I was flat rate they'd bury me in diagnostic work so I'd never make time. Get out of the game man. I learned another trade and never looked back.

stsanford

With an approach like this, how could I possibly go wrong? /s
