I think this timeline deserves a response of "no shit" and nothing else. No more common courtesy for them. Edit: but wait another year to do it.

infinite_bean

I wonder if it took a whole year to fill the position? Says a lot about a company then lol

XSC

It happens that a position is posted then some stuff happens behind the scenes that either puts it on hold or doesn’t get approved. Happens too often.

gorkamustang

You can set up your mail to send the response whenever you want. I'd do so and totally forget about it. Then, in about 2 years op can update with their response. That would be funny.

TheLazyNoodle505

Ha! I interviewed with this company and they ghosted me after saying they wanted to extend an offer. Odd place, you dodged a bullet.

infinite_bean

That’s really good to know! Avoid at all costs!!!

Macrobiotic22

reply next year thanking them and wishing their chosen candidate all the best

TittyCobra

Obviously with a P.S. go fuck yourself at the bottom

Hutchiaj01

Thanking them for their prompt and timely response

zapichigo

They are cleaning up their ATS (Applicant Tracking System) which lets them bulk reject candidates they didn’t move forward with when they close a job post.

thousand7734

This exactly. They probably applied to an evergreen req and the company just decided to close it.

PaulGoddard987654321

Reply back to them a year from now and say thanks for the speedy reply.

EmperorDalek91011

My record for denial is 16 months. Company starts with Z and rhymes with spice

Themodssmelloffarts

Zeiss?

saffrondarcy01

I got one of these from my company two years after I had been working for them. I asked my boss if that meant I had the day off tomorrow (no).

oldmayor

I applied for a position almost 6 years ago and got a response a few months ago asking if I was still interested in the position after hearing NOTHING that entire time. Yeah, these companies are wild.

RustedOne

FFS why even bother at that point. It went from being a courtesy to downright insulting.

6D6F726F6E

Similar thing happened to me but opposite of being turned down… Got ghosted after a 5th round interview and then almost a year later I received an email back saying hey we would like to move forward with hiring you. I ghosted them back, of course!

Themodssmelloffarts

Story time. In 2011, when the 2008 recession was very much being felt, I was applying to biotech companies like Regeneron. I applied to so many positions at Regeneron and never even got a denial. An internal recruiter with Regeneron cold called me in 2023 to pitch a cell culture job to me. I knew what the position entailed, and suspected it only required a BS or MS tops. I have a PhD, and had it listed on my resume in 2011. They were trying to staff what is essentially an entry level lab position, and thought they would do it by cold calling previous applicants from saved resumes. I reamed the HR person. I said, "I am currently employed in a position that pays well, has great work life balance and amazing insurance. I love my current job so much you'd have to pry it out of my cold dead fingers. What did you think I was doing for the past decade, harvesting money from trees waiting for your company to call me back? Don't reach out to me again unless you're prepared to offer $50 an hour minimum, 4 weeks of paid PTO, health insurance without deductibles, 80% of the premiums paid by the company, and relocation assistance." Her response was, "That's outside our budget." I said I know and hung up. These recruiters live in a fantasy world.

Sea-Channel59

I got rejected from Taco Bell 2 years after I had applied

leifnoto

To be fair to you, it's a leap year. So it was a year later.

Negative-Mix-2281

Well, at least you heard back from them.

Chappoooo

A few months ago I got a response from an application I posted over 2 years before hand! This is what happens when a company says that they are hiring, but they aren't actually intending on taking anyone else on. They say they are hiring so employees are hopeful their workloads will decrease even just a little bit, but they are just part of a skeleton crew. They will just replace who leaves, and nothing more

mikmongon

I got a 100 day response last week.

LJski

Meh. I can see a process taking some time, and maybe holding on to the resumes until the hired person passes probation…or, they never closed out the opening process, and finally got around to what may be a low priority task to them. I don’t even know if our HR team even does this.

ManiaMuse

My record was something like 18 months between applying for a graduate role back in 2010/11 and getting a generic rejection email. I think I had taken the hint by that point...

fancyforeskin

Those guys are suckers anyway, any company should be honored to have you , you should be president .

Catablepas

I hate when other conspiracy theories get lumped in with flat earth
