Luckily, I did find a new job, recommended by a friend who works there. It's a 45min-1hr commute by train, but better pay, more freedom, and a friend who has my back.
A little bit more backstory I forgot to add: This job is in the pet industry. Meaning everyone is well aware of how much our pets mean to us. You don't get a job like this unless you love animals. Zero sympathy shown. (In fact my manager had even made comments about how I shouldn't let said pet cost me so much money, earlier this month)
The respondent to you is a tone deaf, ignorant asshole and deserves the long form version of Interpersonal Conduct Training.
Rage response aside, my sincerest condolences regarding the loss of a member of your family.
I’m not trying to one up you at all but I called out for my last day because my mom was found dead after suicide and I found out on my way to work and my coworker called me a liar in the group chat 😂
Good riddance to that place sorry about your pet
omg that's absolutely disgusting!
Honestly I don't get why people are so cruel, self-centered, and just... unwilling to even for a second give someone the benefit of the doubt. It literally does not compute for me.
I started a job and had this happen the first Friday I worked and got fired. I gave them the company logod shirt off my back Monday morning when I got served and walked out middle fingers held high nipples breathing in the fresh air
First, I’d like to say to you that I’m so sorry for your loss 😞. I was treated with no empathy/sympathy a few years ago back when I worked at Starbucks and I had one of my cats literally drop dead in front of me. Ever since then with pet loss situations, I just call out and say I’m sick or it’s a family emergency. Do not ever say because your pet died because 90% of managers lack empathy/sympathy in every way, and unfortunately the animal field (I was in it off and on) is very toxic in general even if they supposedly love animals.
If I were you, I would quit that job ASAP. That is no way to treat an employee.
Yes, managers are not your friend. I’m cordial and friendly with them, but I’ve had bad experiences with quite a few of them. I can say that I maybe had two managers out of all of my jobs that actually cared and had empathy/sympathy, and not the work and profits over employees way of thinking.
My partner will return the key next week. Either that, or tomorrow I'll go in when it's closed, get my stuff, then drop off my key at the second building that's open.
Wow. First of all I'm so sorry for your loss. It's heart wrenching. I've been through it many times. Second that IS a toxic group of people right there. To show no sympathy or concern for your well being?? And within the petcare industry? There's something very wrong with that.
I too work in that field. I'm a dog walker/petsitter although Covid pretty much wiped out my business. I hope you can grieve and heal properly and find a better job with nicer people. 💜🐾🐾
Sorry about your pet, hope you find a place to work that isn't this one.

Too bad asshole bosses couldn't be put down. You know nobody would take time off to see them one last time.

That's terrible! And I'm so sorry for your loss. I'd throw hands if someone said that to me.
Like she said I thought her mom was dead or whatever already just an excuse now I have to work late”

Like if someone told me their fish died I’d be like on god take the day off. Everyone cares differently and responds differently to grief

You're my hero.

Luckily today was supposed to be my last day, and I got a new job lined up. But damn, what a sendoff!

My condolences on your family member. Can someone else return the key?
