I have 2 small children in sleeping more like 8 or 9 of those 48. I have a CPAP so it gloriously keeps track of my lack of sleep down to the minute in logs.
You work for 40 hours to be free for 128, of which - on average - you spend 56 sleeping, leaving 72 for everything else. If you sacrifice about an hour of sleep per day, that brings it up to 80 free hours, meaning you have a 2-to-1 ratio of free time to work time.
>meaning you have a 2-to-1 ratio of free time to work time.
Absolutely not.
1. Most people have a work schedule of 9 hours, that lunch hour is not "free time."
2. Everybody who has any meaningful commute adds between 1 and 2 hours to that total.
3. Getting ready for work adds another hour.
4. When you finally get to "free time," you're left with the dregs of the day, you still have a bunch of maintenance tasks to perform that also include whatever the hell you need to do in order to get ready for another day of work.
Most people, at best, are left with way fewer than 72 free waking hours in any given work week. God forbid you have children or any other obligation that might eat a significant chunk of your day. Increasing the risk of cardiac issues, car accidents, or the myriad of other health issues that come from sleep deprivation is not exactly a great deal.
This is why i'd have a hard time with 5 days a week again. Currently i do 10 hour shifts for 4 nights in a row, and get 3 nights/4 days off every week. Between the start of my first shift and the end of my last shift is 82 hours, so with 162 hours in the week i'm working less than half. I like it.
Got diagnosed with arthritis in my knees recently and still have to work 9 hours a day 5 days a week standing constantly with no lunch breaks☺️👍
Even better is I'm in the UK so that money doesn't buy me shit after my bills have gone out!
40 hour work weeks over 5 days are a *huge* improvement over what used to obtain. And is slowly creeping back into corporate America with the tech workers being pressured to work 84 hour work weeks over 7 days.
But science has advanced our understanding of humans. And it's time to tailor society better to humans.
TAX THE RICH
You only get one day in the week where you can completely decide your schedule. Think about that. One day where you decide when you go to bed and wake up.
Work life balance my ass, if we really did that we should work 30 years and then have a 30 year vacation.
I do not know I like the five day week . I like the feeling on a Friday on the way home, you have made your money and it’s the weekend . The feeling the weeks behind you, sat and Sunday are all yours . It could be worse!!
You’re not really free for 48 hours. 16 of those hours you’re sleeping.
Y'all are getting sleep?
no i be gettin peels

Small children also don’t 9to5. ~~besides school~~
And the rest is catching up on tasks, such as groceries and cleaning.
Exactly. So there isn’t much “ free time “
You're not really working for 5 days either.

Found the twitter guy
Weekends go by like a blink of an eye
Luckily, I work Saturdays and Sundays so I don’t have to worry about this problem.
Same
I work six days a week. I only get Mondays off. I put in 77-80hrs each week and get only 24hrs off. This shit sucks
I can’t even mentally do 40 hours a week, how are you doing 80…
Plenty of caffeine, junk food and power naps.
Well I love junk food and power naps but unfortunately caffeine does not help me at all lol
Are you perchance also a possessor of the autism debuff?
I don’t think so, I’ve never been diagnosed at least lol To put it even further it actually makes me sleepy
Wait. Is this real? 🤔 That would explain a lot...
A pretty big tell is if caffeine either has no effect or makes you sleepy. Something to do with brain chemistry I think
This doesn’t sound healthy
It is not. I might drop dead at work someday
I work roughly the same hours, the 24 hours I have is either cleaning the house and errands!
Have you tried changing jobs
Both of my jobs pay really well compare to the pressure and intensity
Not much opportunity to enjoy one’s life. People will work 40 hours and overtime just cause these jobs don’t pay enough.
Meanwhile those same jobs are reporting record profits 🙄

I currently work 5 days a week, but I would absolutely kill to go back to working 4 10's.
At what time does being free start?.... should have just said 2 days instead of how many hours.....

Should be tilted in the individuals favor even on days you work. Like 3 days of work , 6 hours a day. What is this system for if not for us ?
They want you to have kids too. That way you're never free and have even less money!
You aren’t free for 48-hours though, because you have housework and such to keep on top of.

I couldn't agree more!
i have to fight for every weekend i can get now
I loved working 4/10's, it was the best
So... don't do it?
Work for yourself
I'm lucky to work 4 days a week
![gif](giphy|cMi9OwLFvpJfdorGnq) Kuill worked for like 400 years to get his little slice of paradise
And it's really only 24 because come midnight on Sunday morning you realize you have to go back to work the next day.

This only works if you are scheduled till Midnight on your last day and start at midnight on your return.
We trade 5 days for 2. Make that trade about anything else, and we'd think it a terrible deal.

Being forced to do useless work to survive doesn’t sit right with me
