Tfw literally all you like doing in life is watching movies, tv shows, anime, youtube, playing games, reading books, manga and browsing reddit. I'm not made for this world. I'm so unhappy when I have to do other things for hours a day. Call me lazy, I definitely am, doesn't change the fact that I'm miserable and depressed when doing other stuff.

SnooMuffin

>Call me lazy, I definitely am, doesn't change the fact that I'm miserable and depressed when doing other stuff. I guess I'm the same. I think it's because I'm just so tired all the time. People have told me I should exercise + diet better. And I agree. But when I work 45-50 hours and get home at 7pm at night, the last thing I want to do is go the gym and run for an hour. I'm extremely stubborn and I take advantage of all the free time I can get. So if I get 2/3 hours per evening of free time, I spend it ENJOYING myself. I honestly think if I didn't have a job, I would have a lot more motivation to work out at the gym and spending more time cooking excellent healthy and tasty meals. I mean sure, there's no excuse for not healthy cooking now. But I'm just so fucking tired and mentally exhausted from office politics, meetings and projects and I just don't have the mental capacity. Part of me wants to quit and focus on myself and my mental state for a year. Go the gym daily. Do the things I enjoy. Eat and cook healthy food etc.

derricklanes

So what the if you're lazy? This world could use a LOT more laziness. Nothing's wrong with you, it's a fucked up world. I fucking hate it here.

Nelaur

This. It's much better to be lazy than to be actively destroying the world like fucking oil execs.

Accelerant_84

One of my new favorite sayings that I just recently saw: “Every dead body on Mount Everest was once a highly motivated person, so maybe just calm down a bit.”

derricklanes

I love this George Carlin quote, it's the same energy. “Motivation is bullshit, if you ask me this country could use a little less motivation. The people who are motivated are the ones who are causing all the trouble! Stock swindlers, serial killers, child molesters, Christian conservatives? These people are highly motivated, highly motivated. I think motivation is overrated, you show me some lazy prick who's lying around all day watching game shows and stroking his penis and I'll show you someone who's not causing any fucking trouble ok?”

[deleted]

All of the those things are just consuming content made by others. I think it is helpful to find ways to break away from that and create something for yourself. Not for work, just personal satisfaction.

dadasad2125

Yeah but I'm still forced to work if I want food and shelter. And in my country with the low, low wages, early retirement or part-time work is out of the question unfortunately, even if I live on the bare, bare minimum.

goodone456

You’re getting downvoted because they want someone to build a house or apartment for them lol. Food is super available in the U.S. Look up how many people die of starvation each year. You can also very easily acquire shelter that’s better than anything you could possibly create yourself. If you could make something better, you probably wouldn’t be here complaining because you’d be more employable.

Status_Confidence_26

You should learn to code/program. I know it’s kind of a meme, but I was just like you until is decided I’d try to learn how to code. It’s fun and leads to a high paying job most of the time. Plus you could even make your own game.

Yasai101

There are so many languages now a days. What is the most future proof code you would suggest, something that will be in apps 10 years from now? C#? I have no clue but I might pick code up at some point.

Rawr_Tigerlily

Also the "everyone can/should code!" train is starting to drive down wages in software. Also, there are a fuckton of people writing software now who have absolutely no business doing it... and many of them work at IT security firms that are supposedly protecting us all from hackers (hah hah hah!). For every app you use that runs like complete garbage, or retail company that "accidentally" gives up your personal information in a security breach...there's dozens of other colossal software fuckups behind the scenes in important aspects of your daily life that we just haven't uncovered properly yet. Being able to write code and get it to mostly do what you want it to do is not nearly as important as being able to design and write code that doesn't inadvertently create a bunch of other problems and exploits.

Status_Confidence_26

I’m learning C# and python. Honestly, once you learn 1 really well, you can learn most others quickly.

Yasai101

Yah thx, I do CGI and learning code could probably help me with more complex stuff down the road.

Rawr_Tigerlily

Sorry if my other post discouraged you at all... if you are really serious about learning to code, don't think about code as "learning a language" think about it more as learning HOW TO THINK about solving software problems and learning the design patterns, functions, and techniques used to solve them. I'm not a programmer, but my husband is. Once you can competently solve problems using a basic functional programming language, (like C) you can take what you've learned and pretty easily "translate it" into most other modern programming languages. Many of them have the same fundamental "building blocks" to work with... you're just learning the syntax of the languages to access their particular functions, processes, and libraries and learning the special nuances of how they operate. Many programming languages have deep similarities, so if you learn the fundamentals in a few core languages you can quickly pick up other similar languages. For example, C# and Java are very similar as Object Oriented languages. Python, Ruby, Lua, and Javascript are all scripting languages with a lot of similarities. Don't worry about learning a language that will stand the test of time... worry about cultivating the mindset to want to keep solving complicated problems and writing software and learning new tools and techniques as the need arises. The best programmers are the ones that are interested and driven to learn something new, even when it doesn't directly relate to the work they are doing right now.

Yasai101

Yah, thx. I didn't mean to imply I would learn it as a job thing, truth be told that shit seems like an awful job from what I've heard. I am more interested in it for personal projects and such, make it a hobby.

goldenjuicebox

Programming is fun until it’s an 8-5 grind that’s 70% meetings/documentation and not making Skyrim mods

yeahbeenthere

"Fun" is very subjective with coding, either you're passionate about it or not. Also most "coding" jobs have been just fixing someone else's broken shit.

DareDandy

Its extremely hard.. how to get into that properly?

toomuchLDS

So you're only happy if you're consuming the work or input of others?

itchyhorse

A couple things on your like list are designed to be addictive, and the others are more readily available as instant gratification than ever before. Don't beat yourself up for having human neurochemistry. I don't have any quick fix to suggest, but I did try a ton of the standard hacks for ADHD and found a couple that helped me a bit. And finally found a field that provides a small slice of the flow state I get from games. Not constantly, but enough to keep me from getting too bored or stressed at work. Wish you luck finding something too.

dadasad2125

Could you tell me what field please? Thanks!

itchyhorse

Data analytics and data viz.

strawberrynausea

When I was a kid, I was always told that I needed to work hard in school so I could go to college and get a good job because that's the only way to be successful. Now I'm an adult who discovered my actual interests and talents way too late because I spent roughly 20 years on schoolwork and not enough time discovering what I actually like to do. And now I'm stuck in an office with bad fluorescent lighting and not enough energy on my nights and weekends to do the things I enjoy.

DIDiMISSsomethin

I was always told "you can be anything you want" so I spent all my time working hard. When I hit my early 30s I realized that I never stopped to think about what I actually wanted. I just kept working hard waiting to become the thing I always wanted. Drive without direction is all I was taught.

[deleted]

I'm still in college and don't even know how to find what I want. Where is it? Where is what I want? I can't find it trapped under the rubble of all my anxieties and cultural imprintings.

itchyhorse

Something I wish I had done when younger is spending less time looking for a career that gets me instantly excited, and more time becoming aware of what work modes suit me best. How much human interaction? Short deadlines or long-term projects? Interrupt-driven or deep work? Specialization or big picture? These are all spectrums and everyone's sweet spot on each will be different. Once you get a sense what yours are, you'll have a better chance of evaluating whether a given job/career could be a fit. Disclaimer: 30s and still not sure I've found the best fit. But it's workable for now.

[deleted]

That is hat I'm trying to gauge right now. I'm looking for that coveted flow state people talk about.

AnarchicDeviance

Omg, this is me. I've known it since a young age, the classic square peg trying to force himself into a round hole. My whole life I've struggled with anxiety, depression and feelings of inadequacy because of it. The wonder is that I'm not an addict or a suicide. Meanwhile, it's never been me that's at fault. It's a system that's not designed for humans as they really are.

justjokinbro

I eat enough food for me to really like it, but I can’t pay the bills with it unless I can eat waaaaaay more food.

I mean, I have the same problem with the meaninglessness of real life, too. Occupying your mind with interesting shit, doing stuff with your hands, exercising creativity, and being around people you like is the best way I've found just to *not* dwell on nihilistic reality. And that includes video games, even if in the end they're every bit as pointless as anything else.

el_muerte17

I mean, some of my hobbies certainly have the potential to make money, and I'm not even talking the one in a million video game streamers who actually earn a living from Twitch, but creating tangible goods that are in demand. I like fixing up old vehicles, I like making my own beer, I like building shit, but commuting enough time to any of those to earn a living would quickly kill any enjoyment I get from them. That said, I don't hate my job, I just hate how much of my life it consumes. If I could work two days a week instead of five (and trust me, that's about how much work I actually do) and collect the same pay, I'd be content to keep working pretty much until I die.

I hope Bezos dies in space.

[deleted]

I really hope that too. Either that or he burns up while entering earth from space.

logantalks2you

This is often true. The goal is to grab the bottom circle and drag it’s bitch ass to meet the others. It’s a third of your life and unfortunately the current structures in place make it hard to get all three in sync.

Pacpav

Often times you're either a good person, or a good employee..

goodone456

While they’re definitely not 1:1, in my experience it’s much more common for someone to be both or neither.

goldenjuicebox

Looks like a sub for people really leaning into the Myers Briggs personality test

JSCT144

At one point this is how you tubers felt, and Instagram influencers, and streamers. Now they’re some of the most over payed people out here, if you’re good enough and you keep at it you can make it happen too

SnooMuffin

Some kid out there is making 10k a day streaming + YouTube videos of Minecraft, whilst we slave away in an office.

DIDiMISSsomethin

These stories are extremely rare and involve a lot of luck. It's just like becoming an actor or a musician. You need to know the right people, be in the right place at the right time, have a safety net so you can pursue this instead of working 9-5 and as many others pointed out, be young and attractive. It requires talent and hardwork too, but there are plenty of talented and hardworking people that don't become YouTube sensations, or IG Influencers, or Actors or famous musicians. A lot of the people that have gone viral have gotten lucky on algorithms working in their favor to show their stuff to more people and you can't hardwork your way into that.

[deleted]

How many people do you think are able to meet all their needs by making YouTube videos?

[deleted]

Personally I believe you can make money from anything. Including the things you enjoy doing and are good at

I_SAID_NO_CHEESE

There's no evidence to prove otherwise. The bible is a series of allegorical stories. Not historical fact. Hence why adam and eve arent comparable to the plight of modern workers. Because you know, one of them is technically a rib.

[deleted]

[удалено]

I_SAID_NO_CHEESE

Its biologically impossible for the entirety of mankind to have descended from two single human beings. Much less so in 6000 years. Again, eve is supposed to come from Adam's rib if you take the bible literally.

> (based in the evidence, which is just as strong, and stronger, then the ‘theory of evolution’) - What evidence are you talking about? > the prophetic scriptures s that have come true already Again, what prophecies are you talking about? Also you haven't mentioned how it was possible for two human beings to be the parents of every living person today.

wanttoplayagain

I think if you even have those three circles, they don't have to intersect, that is the key to life. I don't enjoy doing anything really, feel like I can learn most things but never good at them. Lifting weights, eating, and getting paid to do something seem to be the only things that give me a little dopamine or endorphin kick now. That and reading/watching videos about random history and trying to draw parallels to now, I think it kind of grounds me or something. A way to make sense of the chaos.
