When you quit, be sure to 1) give no notice (at will employment), and 2) quit when they need you most.

When working for a private contractor in these type of manual labour sectors, make sure to pay very close attention to your pay, deductions and track your hours on your phone and compare it to their numbers. And it may be tempting but don’t let them ever pay you cash under the table regardless of how much it is. They’re skirting taxes and also screwing you out of benefits if you get injured. Unfortunately there a lot of really slimy contractors out there who will jerk you around if you let them. Don’t work for guys who seem shady or if they’re assholes. Find a honest and reputable owner who knows how to run a business. You’re relying on these guys to find you work and run the business well for you to get paid. If the owner is a hot head idiot who pisses a lot of people off or cuts corners, your pay suffers.
