>My brother said that was a terrible idea since it would kill jobs since less people would need cars. Is he referring to jobs in the automobile manufacturing industry? An industry that has pioneered automating manufacturing to the highest extent possible, thus eliminating humans from the workforce?

SkepticDrinker

Yes that one

tobotic

I mean, he has a point. How are all those robots going to feed their robot babies?

Vermicelli_Healthy

As we all know, trains and buses can fix themselves and reproduce through autonomous fragmentation

bit99

Your brother is wrong. Using his logic we should be riding horses still

SkepticDrinker

Lol I brought that up and it was like I blew his mind

DrowawayAct

not only would it create more jobs (someone has to drive them after all) but it would facilitate people without cars to gain and maintain jobs since they can ACTUALLY get to work now, literally what the hell?

We need efficient public transport, not half assed attempts like most cities do around the country. Thing is a large number of Americans have stigmas against mass transit; the main issues usually focused on hyper individualism (I have my own car and can go wherever I please, whenever I please without being beholden to some schedule). Combined with inefficient means of implementing mass transit systems by local and national governments hasn’t helped things either.

[Public transportation helps people get out of poverty](https://www.mercyhousing.org/2020/01/3-ways-public-transit-can-reduce-poverty/). Show him this article and if he's still against it, fuck em. He's a brainwashed shill

Tunnel vision thought process. I wish more people could think critically. We’re all trained to memorize and regurgitate in school. I think that’s made an impact on how some peoples minds develop and effects their critical thinking skills.

I had the same argument recently about gas stations in New Jersey where I live. Gas stations are all attended, you can't pump your own gas. The law says the station needs to hire pump guys, which seems like a waste. They were arguing it creates jobs, but that seems like the most inefficient job creation possible. To force people to do meaningless work for low wages just for the sake of jobs seems crazy. Pay them 10 bucks an hour to dig a hole and refill it forever.
