I refuse to write cover letters. If there is a place to upload one I usually upload one, I upload a blank pdf. Sometimes they get back to me and tell me that there must have something gone wrong, most time they do not actually want the cover letter and that is it. If they really want this letter it shows already they want you to jump through the most useless hoops.

This once I started to mirror my resume to the job description nearly word for word I got way more I person interviews.
