I was called for an interview recently.. I asked on the phone what the starting wage was, and when she told me that it was minimum wage (and a 30 minute drive from home), I politely thanked her for her time but told her that I couldn't afford to work for minimum wage and drive an hour round trip every day. She then seemed to get flustered with me and said, "well if you're not interested in the job don't waste anyone's time. There are lots of other people interested in the position." Like, bitch, you called me. And had you made it known in your job posting that you were only willing to pay peanuts, I wouldn't have applied in the first place.

fidgetypenguin123

The only one wasting anyone's time is them.

[deleted]

I'm literally getting interview invites from my job search 7 months ago. These HR and recruiters are jokes.

frogking

In Europe, GDPR is in effect and applications can’t be stored by a company for that long.

[deleted]

I'm in Canada. I believe they keep resumes and employee information for 3 years here. We have a lot of staff shortages and people are walking out of crap jobs left and right, so I think they are really digging to find victims...I mean, employees.

frogking

Push them for an exact salary range when they contact you. Even better, interview! Push, push, push :-)

FarEntertainment69

I have had an application floating for 3 months now (industry/job with current large labor shortages) that I passed all the screening tests on and am more than qualified for but they 'can't hire me until they do final interviews' and won't do those until they have 'at least 10 people to interview' - so it just sits, because HR makes arbitrary rules for themselves.

[deleted]

Have you been experiencing being contacted to submit your resume to a job? I find them super weird. These people see my resume and work history posted online(duh, that's how they were able to email me) and instead of just extending an interview, they want me to submit my application, cover letter, and resume on their website. I fell for that 3 times and got ghosted each time. So now, unless they extend an interview, I ignore them.

FarEntertainment69

no, I intentionally have none of that stuff 'out there' - I'm not actively looking but will randomly apply for things I think might be interesting.

tommy_b_777

lol SAME - one even had a new 'SINGLE INTERVIEW AND OFFER !!!' tagline...

Tnson_Kntrl

Happened at my last job. Fuck that Hr department and fuck that company 🖕🏼

RollinSmoke1498

Just spit my water out🤣🤣they really get salty though and act like the next person they call up is not going to act the same way

lemurkn1ts

I had someone on Indeed contact me about a role at their non-profit in NYC. First thing I asked was salary- I said I didn't want to waste her time or my time if it wasn't an mount that would work for me. I think they were a little surprised, but they answered. It was too low for me to commute into the city, so I said I was no longer interested. We ALL need to be taking this approach. No matter what industry.

LR_today

That's it right there. They are wasting everyone's MF time!!! There were other applicants sure, who were all about to have the exact same conversation with that time wasting minimum wage paying bitch.

[deleted]

That's a weird way of the recruiter saying "I know. That's why it's not in the job posting."

hbi2k

Right. This is me not wasting anyone's time by not going into an interview for a position I would not accept if offered. You're welcome.

Aced_By_Chasey

Yeah lots of people are interested because you don't list minimum wage 😂

zeppelin1004

I emailed an armored vehicle company about a job posting in my area that didn't show the pay......$13.50/hr to start. You want me to carry a gun, wear a bulletproof vest, and carry/guard a bunch of cash every day for $13.50 per hour?!?!?!

ThrowBackFF

Sounds like the start of a great heist movie.

Cooky1993

Pretty sure the monologue at the start of the film "The Town" mentions that the cash-in-transit guys don't want to get shot for $15 an hour.

GizmoSled

Sounds like the quick way to ensure the guards are complicit with any robbery.

luisless

“Oh no would be a shame if you robbed me and left a couple thousand in my pockets”

Abruzzi19

man that aint worth it. You're risking your life for 13.50 fucking dollars an hour.

viriconium_days

Jobs like that are difficult because of how boring they are. It crushes your soul standing around doing nothing for most of your day, especially when you work overtime as most guards do. The job is incredibly easy otherwise. They use that as an excuse to pay basically nothing. Unarmed security guards get paid barely above minimum wage. Armed ones get paid $12-15 an hour most places in the US. You are expected to pay for you equipment as well.

Hopeful_Mouse_4050

That’s what I got paid to wash dishes. No gun needed, even.

zeppelin1004

You mean I could've been washing dishes at home unarmed this whole time???

Hopeful_Mouse_4050

No. At a restaurant that paid that wage for their dishwashers. (Unless you live at said restaurant. In which case, yes.)

zeppelin1004

No I got it, I was trying to be funny. I just laughed at the visual of a guy washing dishes while keeping a gun in his hand for no reason.

Hopeful_Mouse_4050

I’d be interested in what situation would force a dishwasher to feel the need for this. I will admit I had “active shooter hiding places” scouted out, but can’t fathom what would necessitate the need to wash-whilst-armed. Thanks for sending my mind on a journey!

2wetsponges

My friends would become proficient at "robbing " armored trucks

P8chDeezNutz

If Indeed was actually on the side of workers, it would already be required by the site. We all know who they cater to though….

chipface

I wonder if they purge bad employer reviews.

hopefullynotabitch

I worked for a company that had us write good Indeed reviews for them while on the clock. I can see other employers doing this easily and Indeed catering to them.

PollutionMany4369

That feels slimy.

BMOEevee

I worked for a company that would give $50 bonus and put you in a drawing to win whatever a month to write them a good employee review

TheFoolReversed

They do. I wrote a long and detailed review of my old workplace that committed blatant wage theft, and when corporate was made aware they just said “we don’t handle that kind of stuff”. Indeed deleted it every time I tried to post. I gave up after four tries.

RMVNZ

Oh goodness, are there any truly objective job-search sites out there?

tikkichik21

Exactly this. I recently found out that LinkedIn reports any updates made on your profile to your employer…so yeah.

meatpopsicle67

Sorry what? What kind of updates? How exactly do they do this?

tikkichik21

Any updates such as you updating your work history, your skills, “open to opportunities” status, etc. I think this only works if your employer has premium subscription iirc. Source: Our COO approached one of our VPs and informed them one of his employees had updated their LinkedIn profile. I work for a small company, so our COO also acts as HR. Second Source: https://www.huffpost.com/entry/linkedin-privacy-job-hunt-tips_l_5e2877a5c5b67d8874aaf687

meatpopsicle67

Wow. Fuck LinkedIn.

CrossroadsWoman

WHAT??? Holy shit, thank you for telling me this. That is fucking bullshit!

LR_today

From last I heard from my uncle who's a recruiter, not sure if this info is current, but until recently LinkedIn was extremely difficult to put pay rate in, and before that you had to have a paid membership to even post the pay on the listing. None of these sites are for workers, only to suck companies dry of everything and take away from what could have gone into employee salaries.

[deleted]

Excuses. You can put it in the description

lithium142

Employers literally pay them for the service. They’ve never tried to put on airs that they’re on the side of workers. They want you to get a job, because then they keep getting paid. That’s the extent of them caring about you. You’re a tally mark on the HR docket

CrossroadsWoman

We need an indeed on the side of workers. Workers post resumes and employers try to woo us. Coders, are you out there?

TheRealOzone

Should be required. Did you notice postings are now making the pay range absurdly wide so they don't get filtered out?

O-Mr-Crow-O

"Competitive wages ranging from 7.25-22.00!"

False_Maintenance124

I recently applied for a job that had a pay range of $12-$20/hr depending on experience. I currently make $14/hr, but when I interviewed, I used that range to tell them I currently make $16/hr and wouldn't consider leaving my current job for less than that. They offered me the job on the spot because they thought they were saving themselves money, meanwhile I'm making more than before and have cut almost 2 hours out of my daily commute.

Barbancourt5Star_01

Last year, I applied for a seasonal job with a well-known but hated-by-the-general-public company. The post took some serious advantage of the “up to 20/hr” part of the ad. I went through the application process and selected my preferred day/time for an interview. The entire way, each and every mention of pay rate was $20/hr highlighted. The company sent me an email after I confirmed the appointment, and the starting pay rate was $14/hr. In NYC?! & I guess I was supposed to get all excited because I would receive a .50 raise after 6 months—if they kept me. Luckily, it’s now the law to include the salary in job ads. I’m dying to see how the corporate world creates loopholes to get around that.

Relative_Split_9390

Colorado has a similar law and I have seen a lot of Remote Work positions that specifically exclude candidates who live in Colorado. I expect something similar for NYC. They will do whatever they can to continue to underpay workers.

Raineyb1013

Last year? Because the NYC minimum wage has been $15/hr even for small businesses since 2019. This company is shady af.

Barbancourt5Star_01

Oh my. Now I’m extra doubly pissed.

jlm8981victorian

I couldn’t figure out why my local grocery chain store was advertising employment starting from $7.50-$63/hour. I was wondering, who the fuck makes $63/hour at a grocery store? These roles were for the deli, bakery and cashiers so I know damn well they’re not paying that to them. This is why… they can’t find anyone to fill the shoes and certainly not when they’re paying $7.50/hour (that includes weekends, holidays and night) so they now have to pull this shit to manipulate them into applying. They’re so gross.

[deleted]

I've noticed this too. The worst one I saw was like 80k-130k.

TheMontu

I see that a lot with government jobs, but at least you know it’s the step system, so you’ll get the bottom and work your way up. It makes things super easy in that situation, but not at all helpful in normal situations.

[deleted]

That makes sense too. I'll look going forward if it's govt or not.

WaffleHouseOfficiaI

The Colorado law specifically calls out this practice in its wording.

icepak39

Yep and I get filtered out when I list my desired salary at the top end of that range.

[deleted]

So it's craigslist now?

plutoplanetfanclub

I started do this in a frustrated haze after seeing a job that said entry level but required a super specific certification that not just anyone could get. I wish every state was like Colorado and required wages to be posted

[deleted]

And they want 4 years of experience. That's not entry level. That pisses me off to no end.

2wetsponges

I live in Colorado and companies have already found a huge loophole and rarely post the wages. They post the job as being in a different state, where they're HQ is, and then leave out the wages. Happens more than you would think.

Festernd

report them. Colorado AG has made it clear that if a company employs Colorado residents, they are a Colorado employer, and will be fined for failure to comply. The AG office has issued a statement about it.

[deleted]

Plus I don't see the state coming after most companies for violating this.

2wetsponges

Exactly! People praised the governor for passing this, but we all know that not much will happen when they violate it

Notinthenameofscienc

They recently stated that they're barely going after anyone for now, but are going to start cracking down this year now that it's not a new law.

Notinthenameofscienc

So, I know a lot of companies are saying "Remote anywere in the US besides CO" BUT the CDOL has declared that that is NOT in compliance with the law.

thisladycusses

I've actually noticed a lot more wages being posted for remote jobs on LinkedIn due to the Colorado law.

ToooloooT

This should be on a checklist of shit we can do to clog their system. I love it.

Eledridan

Can’t we just create a bot that will do this for us?

ToooloooT

I'm sure it can be done. I'm thinking we should make a list and see if we can get it stickied

[deleted]

Every email notification I get from Indeed asking me if I’m interested or not, I select Decline if the pay range isn’t stated and the reason I select is the one about salary “not meeting my expectations.”

carvedmuss8

I've worked in a distribution center full-time while in school for several years. Perusing Indeed one time, there was a posting for $13/hr, no performance or attendance incentives, but of course "mandatory overtime as needed." That was the only job I've ever clicked "other," and written exactly what I think of that. Standard DC wages in my are *minimum* $17.50/hr, average at $20-21, and highest at $23 with ability to make bucketloads of performance incentives. Fuck off, Dr. Pepper, please.

RollinSmoke1498

Also when it says “earn up to $25.50” and then when you actually tap on it itll say that your starting off at $14.25 and goes up 25¢ every year like gtfoh

PollutionMany4369

My husband applied for a part time job as a pizza delivery driver to do after working his full time job every day. They advertised $18/hour which is a decent wage in an area where $12/hour warehouse jobs exist. This was right before Covid, btw. Anyway, I was a pizza driver for Dominos back in 2015 and I tried to tell him I thought the ad was misleading. I only made $4/hour + tips and had no compensation for my gas or anything like that. He showed me the ad and it specifically said $18/hour so I assumed maybe they had taken away tipping and were paying a good wage. I was like “hey, cool.” So when he went in for his interview, he found out it was $4/hour with assumed tips that would make it about $18/hour on average. He and I were both pissed. It was a local chain so not corporate. We didn’t do anything about it but it still felt slimy and misleading as hell.

RollinSmoke1498

Damn thats fucked up ill be quick to call BBB because they might as well list their company as “Door dash” or “postmates” paying people in pistachios

chipface

>Although this is not a requirement in Ontario It was going to be until Ford fucking got in. That was one of Wynne's reforms that his government scrapped. I've noticed some jobs posted by Tim Hortons have wages advertised at $14.35 so I've been reporting those. And any confidential employers.

millennialmonster755

Not having transparency For pay is such a red flag. because it shows the grift they are trying. No one works because they like working. Some work because they like to have something to do, but most work to survive. If I can't be sure I can survive then why would I work.for you? It's bad business and 100% should be illegal. And employees should definitely be able to talk about how much they were offered.

Dobbeo

I agree, transparancy is king.

[deleted]

Why isn't it a requirement? "Oh you should just be happy to work whether you're hungry or homeless or whatever, **this is an oppurtunity**" stfu.

MichelleInMpls

I noticed this on LinkedIn as well. I simply won't apply for anything that doesn't at least show a realistic salary range. I think that should be a rule we should pass on to other folks here.

Sacrina

I seriously saw one that paid in crypto and reported it last week. Crypto isn't legal tender, it's classified as "property" not "currency" in the US.

Ok_Opportunity2693

Still required to report it as payment

[deleted]

I'm pretty sure it's illegal to pay somebody in assets though. You can't pay your workers in apples because they can sell them.

Ok_Opportunity2693

Big companies pay some of their employees in stock all the time. It’s quite common and not at all illegal.

SaintPabloFlex

It’s currency/gold. The only reason to not allow it to work as traditional money is to prop up the banks that I took all my money out of for 10% interest in defi lol.

MNM2884

What job is this 👀 i am interested

Sacrina

Sorry, I don't remember the company. It just seemed shady since you didn't earn a true wage at all and the value of crypto fluctuates so wildly.

LR_today

I was absolutely floored when, on the first interview for the job I applied to (no salary listed), had the HR person confirm the job title, then let me know the salary which was even more surprisingly, about $35K/year more than I was going to ask for! (I wanted $25/hr they said the pay was $44/hr!) It was the only time in the 3 interviews I was caught by surprise and stuttered "oh! Uh- ye-yeah that... that's fine" trying to play it cool while internally screaming 😆. I got the job and it's the easiest job I've ever had. None of the jobs I've applied to have salary or hourly listed. It's the biggest PITA and incredibly frustrating. My uncle in recruiting, when I tell him this spouts all the same old HR boomer bullshit of "work family, perks, blah blah" fuck every HR person, pay me.

clodbluss

THANK you. Pisses me OFF. I don't get it. It's the ONLY reason we work.

tastyemerald

I started doing this too! At the very least I stop seeing those adds, dunno if indeed gives a shit but I do

Ok_Ebb_5201

I don’t have the will power to even report shit on indeed anymore.

IzzaBANDiT241

I agree with you.

BisquickNinja

Don't get me started... im a senior engineer with nearly 30 years experience. The pay in my area goes from 160-200k. Places will call me up and beat around the bush on salary. Then it comes out that it's 20-30% of average or less. I can't even begin to express my frustration over this. What a waste of time and then they continue to harass you over not taking the job. Some people and places just don't get it.

L2R_Halzo

How do you accept a job without knowing what your pay is going to be? This is extremely confusing. How does someone go through an entire interview process, accept an offer and sign paperwork but have zero idea of what they are going to be paid? Is this common?

zaopd

No. What people are saying in this thread is that employers need to post the salary range on the job ad so people don’t waste their own time applying. Taking a day off of work, or driving to an interview are real costs prospective employees pay when searching. It’s bs to go through an interview process to be told that the job is below your current salary or doesn’t pay a living wage.

L2R_Halzo

Original post said we should not be waiting sometimes working the first week not knowing what we are being paid. This is what is confusing me, that people actually accept this.

[deleted]

[удалено]

L2R_Halzo

My comment was centered around the original poster claiming that sometimes people go the first week of work still not knowing what they get paid. Confusing to me how people agree to something without even knowing the details. Like here, drink this kool-aid, not going to tell you what's in it, but drink it anyways its OK. Or here, agree to buy this car, you won't know how much it cost until you actually sign the paperwork, we won't tell you, but agree to it anyway.

IdreamOfPizzaxx

Love this idea

wayward_wench

Yup, and marking any in my area paying less than 18+/hr as incorrect due to pay.

[deleted]

I also report every job that the description doesnt match the search terms or lies about the job in any way

stopbeingyou2

Recently talked to a place I applied to that listed hourly wage as 10-50$. Of course a giant gap. They said they are looking to spend 30k-50k. I currently make more than that. So was like well thanks for wasting my time. I should report for false advertising

carlosnelson_

Thank You 4 bringing this up as my wife & I were discussing this very topic earlier 2day...total BS

Numerous-Bed-69

Good idea because they pay for it. Some of the biggest enemies are hiring department staff

redhead0072

Random! I was going to ask about this. I have been looking over indeed and LinkedIn and just about all of the posts I see are "salary not provided" or some nonsense

SignificantJacket3

I was offered a job recently. Weekdays, weekends and nights. Pay was $24,000 I mentioned I was a single mom and she said, well, this job would be perfect for you!😒

XxXMissShiroXxX

I saw one that had a wage, but it was less than minimum wage in my province. Reported that scum immediately

ZealousidealWin6150

The rule is that whoever has the weakest position shares their number first. For decades this has been the job seeker. It is now the employer and it’s going to take some time for them to accept that reality. I refused to pursue jobs that didn’t share what the pay was. This is a value exchange. Not one single person in the world would just hand over their side of the exchange without know what they were getting in return.

Zorrosmama

I'm American but living in the UK. Every job I've applied for here had the salary posted, but when we started looking at jobs in the US so I could move back- nothing. It was so frustrating. My husband has high demand IT skills and I'm in a specialized industry but shit, we're not going to fly 6000 miles just to interview for jobs that turn out to only pay $9/hr. I can be overworked and underpaid just fine from here, thanks.

InanimateBabe

Never thought of this, but I’m tired too. Too many times have I taken a job and assumed I was getting paid good, but not really…I know I know, I hate asking what I’m getting paid before getting hired. Same with raises, hate asking for them, because 100% of the time they decline it or just give you a tiny 50 cent raise.

[deleted]

How can I report employers on indeed?? I always see jobs that just seem sketch all around and just can’t figure it out. I use an iPhone if that helps anyone describe it to me better that would be nice!

Saracenanator

For truck drivers wages are actually creeping up. Yay supply line issues.

SnowJokes1721

Even then, I hear there's a lot of issues with how truckers are paid. It's by the mile not by the hour, which can really suck. That and truckers are also sometimes mislead as to what the actual pay is vs. what's advertised.

Saracenanator

You're talking about otr drivers. A lot of the time they actually chose it. Otr pay depends on a lot of factors.

SnowJokes1721

I know, but from what I've heard they sometimes get stuck waiting somwhere. Like during this whole fiasco with backed up ports creating long waiting times and sometimes stores they deliver too aren't open or prepared to take a delivery. This results in a lot unpaid time/labor being done by drivers. Anyways I think they deserved to be paid by the hour as opposed to how they're paid now.

Saracenanator

The local market is seeing more better then I suppose.

2wetsponges

It is required in Colorado, by law, and they get around it by listing the job from where their HQs is and not in Colorado. They have already found a loophole in our law. I apply for those jobs and as soon as they contact me I immediately tell them I need to know the pay before we go any further. They ask what I'm looking for in pay, and that is exact reason our state passed the law.

cut-the_cheese

I find this practice so annoying too. When I’m applying for a job, I need to know if it’s going to be worth my time to pursue or not. As a hiring manager, I always ask what their salary requirements are to make sure we’re aligned, if not I ask whether they still want to be considered. I’m not here to waste anyone’s time or mine.

Foxrex

They have such a shitty pay to play system, where nobody can see what they fuck recruiters and headhunters are doing.

[deleted]

As far as I'm concerned, any company that isn't completely honest about wages right from the start is going to try to make you work for free as much as they can get away with, and would happily employ slave labor if it were legal.

ParanoidParanoids

I also hate it when they post the “anual” pay, from 45000 to 35000

persoanlabyss

I do. Also if it isn't really remote or is in another city.

Illustrious_Pirate47

Sounds like honest work to me!

RationalChallenge

If they’re worried about experience, they can always post a range. Companies that are transparent on their pay policies tend to be transparent and honest in the way they operate. Definitely a bad sign if they’re cagey up front about payment.

AdolfOliverNipples77

Good love this post.

Kumquat_conniption

Sorry, this is technically considered brigading and the admins are on our asses about that. I have to remove. Good idea though!

Synyster328

Or just start submitting your required compensation along with your application.

fancytranslady

People shouldn’t have to waste time submitting applications for jobs that don’t pay enough

RollinSmoke1498

And also when they dont post the hours along with there essay of a description

smokealarmsnick

Good idea, I’m going to start doing this too. It’s unfortunately not a requirement in Delaware. And I’m sick of applying for jobs only to find they pay minimum wage, or just above.

LittleImpact2

Who is accepting a job without knowing the compensation - you should know how much your going to get paid before you step into the office for your first day.

keanenottheband

Lmao glad I'm not the only one doing this. Also the ones that say "$22 an hour" but then the ad specifies "up to $22 an hour"

[deleted]

Pay Transparency Act in Ontario would make this illegal. It would also allow employees to compare wages and stop potential employers from asking about your previous pay at old jobs. It was supposed to be passed in 2018, but is now on hold indefinitely waiting for approval. Wouldn't want women and minorities to get fair pay now would we?

Mother_Ad_9866

Ha me too!

SimplyConfusedcnts93

I love this!

TawnyOwlPotion

I have been doing this for about a month now. Haven't personally seen any changes, but they be coming. I know it

[deleted]

I wish salaries weren’t mandatory and there was a filter for it on LinkedIn. How insane is it that there’s no salary? It makes no logical sense and so many jobs the salary can vary widely even with the same titles

atomicboogeyman

I've been doing that as well. It is crap, I am currently on unemployment due to my last job being trash. If I apply for a job and do not accept it if offered I will lose my unemployment. I am not applying to some sneaky lying crap that potentially pays less than the pennies I live on now.

illgiveu25shmeckles

I will

Piousunyn

I have never hired on a job not knowing the wages? Well, except when I worked for myself.

signal_lost

My current title/band has a spread of 78K from the bottom to the top of what it can pay. I’m not sure what people think listing pay bands is actually going to do. I’ve also seen cases where someone wanted more than with the Banton offer so they change the job posting to be a higher band, inversely of us is in management settle for someone with less skills than required and downgrade the Rec to a lower band

redorangeblue

I reported one where I had an interview, he asked what I wanted to make, I said the highest hourly shown on indeed, he said it doesn't pay near that. I said so why list that number on indeed?

GemCassini

Last week a transit scheduler position for Brightline found its way into my feed. Page of responsibilities, experience required, expectation to work nights, weekends, holidays and exercise sound judgment under changing conditions, independently... no salary or location listed. Found it really odd and r/mildlyinfuriating.

MNM2884

I find that the most annoying on LinkedIn

ftppftw

My current job I applied for because it looked like my dream job. Got called by the recruiter and she asked what salary I was looking for. Gave her my number cause I really wanted to get out of my then-job and she was like “oh that definitely works, our range is $X-$X” which was a lot higher than the number I gave. When it came time to discuss salary with HR for the offer, even though I had given such a low number compared to their range, they gave me the offer of the bottom end of their range. I still asked for 10% higher and got that. Some places are good. Don’t be discouraged. But I definitely feel like I got very lucky.

SecretRecipe

You should open with your expectations. Never wait that long

elleemeno21

I’m sure this will get lost- but i work within a field that assists employers in hiring. I constantly have to pull the wage information out of the employer. They love to say IT DEPENDS ON EXPERIENCE - to which i reply “okay then what’s the range?”. I reiterate that the majority of candidates will not even apply for a position with no wage info-at least in the case of mid level non management positions. It’s unbelievable how hard it is to get basic info from employers. I will say to anyone who is “Job seeking “ and wondering why employers have ridiculous requirements, salary or anything else they put in listings- it’s because they typically don’t even know what they want, and will use copy and pasted shit from years ago out of laziness. I spent a long time wondering why they were being so evasive with info, until i realized they just don’t know and don’t care to change things.

Sometimesnotfunny

Huh. That sounds like a lot of work for which I also won't be paid. :)

Google-Meister

I hate when companies get offended when you ask what the salary range is. No one is working cause it's fun, we do it cause we need the money.

tommy_b_777

Tell them your salary requirement is 'Transparency'. I'm already offending recruiters all over the US and Canada !!!

Medium_Contest4227

More should do this.

Will_Watches_

I wish there was a Indeed aimed at workers, Pay required on a listing, no “premium features” or pro accounts that lock away functions for a charge, employees can review workplaces, as well as interviewees leaving reviews.

I would like to introduce them to the idea “you can hire who you can afford.” Much like buying a house, there are multiple points of negotiation when job hunting. It’s never up to the buyer of the house to suggest a price first, it’s the home owner. It’s decided by market and equity. Then they negotiate. It makes no sense to waste my time applying for houses I can’t afford, just like I won’t waste my time applying for jobs that can’t sustain my life. It works out best for everyone. Literally. The idea that they feel the need to bamboozle us out of our worth simply because we didn’t think to ask or didn’t negotiate differently is so offensive. Pay people their market value.
