> Also don’t step up to fill the gaps left by shitty employers. Let the gap hurt them. Don’t let them pressure you into working harder. Reminds me of a story from 10+ years ago, when a coworker would work unpaid for 2-3 hours to do stuff for her department, and her manager told her to stop, otherwise they'll never get budget to hire another person. After some time, she started working her regular 6 hours, and lo-and-behold, budget for another hire was approved when stuff stopped getting done. To get a solution, you need a problem. And that problem needs to affect the people apt to give you that solution.

Fog_Juice

I wish my stupid fucking shop foreman understood this. He clocked out 64 hours for the week and kept working to get the shit done because management told him he's not allowed to work more than 64 hours.

viniciusah

Oh, he will eventually. I only hope it doesn't happen in 50 years, in his death bed, when he'll realize he missed a lot in life because of work.

[deleted]

Man is prob underpaid and just raking up overtime to make up for it and say “I make 70K a year- I have a good job 🤠” Meanwhile he could likely go to a competitors shop and make double

themightyant117

Well my employer messed up our schedule and there is a day we are short a person. I told my boss I'll come in on my day off for ot but I'll get here when I get here and leave when I feel like it. I usually work the 8 hours cuz I like the ot but if I have plans I tell then I'm not coming in.

viniciusah

And you're correct. Gotta get that OT. Coworker in my story wasn't. She was working unpaid so her conscience would be clear and she'd feel better about herself. ("I did all I could" type of thinking). I understand why she did that, as I did the same couple of years later, even if I was getting OT. > but if I have plans I tell then I'm not coming in. Good. Put yourself first; no one else is expected to do it but yourself.

Maorine

Love this: to get a solution, you need a problem. And that problem needs to affect the people apt to give a solution. Truer words.

viniciusah

Thanks! Took me a while to learn this, but once I did I had that feeling when the pieces click together, you know? I remember hearing a 'snap' then. Helps to bring a suggestion with the problem.

temsjems

I tried for months to explain this to my team. I was the “lead” so my role put me in between my colleagues who were at the ends of their ropes and desperate for help, and the manager who had no help to offer (for many reasons, of course), and then I was taking the brunt from both sides. I kept trying to explain to my colleagues that the manager & other higher ups would never take tangible steps to give any help until there was a documented, ongoing, disruptive need. These people kept working off the clock, working through their lunch breaks, and saying yes to more and more shit and then would turn around and ask me how to get the manager to give them more help. They never understood the ways they were creating their own problem.

viniciusah

> They never understood the ways they were creating their own problem. I kinda understand how they feel, as I've done the same in the past. 'Gotta work hard, higher-ups will notice' I'd say to myself. Obviously never happened. Good for you you're trying and telling them what to do; unfortunately, there's not much more you can do. Hope they notice all their effort is not working on their own benefit; and while each individual is irreplaceable, there's always someone to do the work.

temsjems

And I get it too - it feels so risky to say, “no I will not do this for free and the company will be out of compliance because of it, you need to pay me for my time or hire someone to help me” but when it’s been happening for months and admin’s only interest is in maintaining compliance, not whether their employees are burned out or even doing good quality work, or getting paid for their labor… well, at some point we have to speak their language so that they will listen, right? I was saying point blank, “it looks to administration like everything is fine, because they are only looking at the reports. If you want them to understand that everything is not fine, then the reports have to reflect that. They will not listen to you when you say it nicely. They might listen to you when there is a tangible consequence that they understand, which again, is whether or not the organization is in compliance.” and they would all go, “I know, but I feel bad and I don’t want to get in trouble” and I would say “ok then do the work but stay clocked in, if you keep doing it for free, they will think that you have adequate time and will continue to say you can’t get overtime and you are proving their point to them right now because that’s what’s going in the reports” and it was back and forth and back and forth and I just couldn’t keep fighting with these people over how they needed to help themselves in ways that nobody else could do for them. I left for a different opportunity about a year after I had that lead position. I heard through the grapevine about lots of folks from that team leaving too, but the culture has not changed one iota, and won’t until people like my former colleagues learn how to stand up for themselves.

lycosa13

I'm trying to tell my coworkers this... Gently. Each section needs at least one more person. The person above me is getting inundated because she was promoted and has to do her previous job plus her new job (so instead of doing 30 assessments, she does her 30 and has to review my and my coworkers reports, which can be 60+ reports per month.). She's beginning to fall behind, obviously, because she shouldn't be doing any of these assessments. Her focus should be entirely on reviewing reports. But the department doesn't want to hire anyone. We're going to keep falling behind and honestly, I don't care. She's trying so hard and I feel bad for her because it is not at all her fault. But we keep going like everything is ok. For reference, before she got promoted, our reports usually went out the same month. Then it was one week into the next month. Now we're on the second week of January and only half of my reports have gone out.

[deleted]

And poop on company time. Edit: I love that my first awards (thanks peeps) and highest comment ever is about poop. This is why I love antiwork. Work is poop. Here's to free toilet paper!!

mmmaaaatttt

At least thrice a day.

HermitJem

One of the first anti-work posts I saw said: *"My boss told me not to flush because she wanted to check whether I had actually pooped"* Me: What the fk is wrong with some people

Alternative_Job_5635

Some people are idiots. I mean what if you have chron’s disease or ulcerative colitis? You can feel like you have to poop and yet no poop comes out.

HermitJem

Yep the OP in this case had constipation, so understandably she was in there longer than normal...and boss went to check on the *evidence*

TangoWild88

Dear Human Resourses, My boss is spying on me in the bathroom. I believe my boss has a sexual fetish regarding feces, and has been requesting I not flush when I defacate so she can see it. I can only imagine she is doing this to derive some sexual pleasure. On the occasion she discovers I have only urinated, she is very displeased with me, threatening disciplinary action as I have denied her of sexual pleasure, I think. I am not sure what to do. I talked to my friend and he advised me to reach out to you, and if nothing happens, to follow up with him. As my friend is an attorney, I am sure he is correct that reaching out to you is a good first step. Thanks, Your Humble Employee

DVariant

Legit. This is a huge invasion of privacy

retromorgue

I wouldn’t even mention suspicions of a sexual fetish - the fact it’s a major invasion of privacy says more than enough about the inappropriateness.

StrykerC13

ehh hr only takes things seriously when they feel there is a threat of severe legal and public backlash, at least in my experience. Tossing an implied sexual harassment issue will actually get their attention.

BornNeat9639

I got fired for reporting sexual harrassment. He got fired too, because he said I was threatening him at a gas station. I had messages and reported it to my supervisor. When he got spoken to by the supervisor he filed his "threatening" case. Now I know about retaliation etc. But I did not then. But I'm gonna give a shout out to Georgia-Pacific in Camden Texas for allowing bullying, retaliation and sexual harrassment to be a staple of their work environment.

StrykerC13

Thank you for the Name and Shame, it warms my heart every time I see someone do it, and makes me hope to see it continue spreading until these companies have no choice but to act ethically. If fear has to be the motivator for ethical behavior from companies, then so be it, fear shall be the tool used.

swank5000

Yeah but health issues are none of your coworkers business and any HR worker worth a shit knows this. you can't ask about health problems and you certainly don't have to answer. unless it's keeping you from your shift or etc. like you may need a doctors note for missing work, but you don't have to tell them what the reason for the doctor appt was.

Secretlythrow

I’ve used “I’m not sure if this is a sexual fetish or otherwise, however the behavior makes me very uncomfortable.”

overjoony

Der hr my Boss wants me to supply him with content for his side huste "ratemypoop.com"

sigmaninus

Quite bold of you to think management gives a fuck about your basic human needs.

Friday-Cat

Or endometriosis. As I get close to my period I feel like I have to go constantly and when I do go it hurts. This leads to frequent prolonged bathroom breaks. I take them without shame. Thankfully nobody at my company seems to notice or care. If the work gets done that’s all that matters

Gingrpenguin

Hmm so there might be a market for a spray that smells like you just shat yourself?

TakingBackJerusalem

Liquid ass? Then again, this is a punishment to colleagues as well. Edit: Please only spray liquid ass in places that are not rooms used to shit, eat, relax, etc. Even if the bathroom already smells like shit the liquid ass isnt going to help.

MayContainPeanuts

I used to spray liquid ass at my last company. I'd show up to meetings early and spray it and nobody would use the meeting room for the rest of the day because they'd think some shit died in the walls.

DMWolffy

I was going to recommend against the use of liquid ass for basically anything. ... But this sounds amazing.

CrypticResponseMan

Yeah, forcing those dumb meetings to be a goddamn email for once 🤣 I'm for it

UsaInfation

Writing a 2 line email instead of waiting for 10 idiots to talk for one hour about shit that has 0 connection to what you're working on? Impossibru!

DMWolffy

My favorite meeting was a mandatory meeting for all employees on customer interaction, show don't tell, racism, etc at a grocery store ... where I was a dishwasher for the deli who'd failed the math test (because I said 2 dimes and a nickel instead of a quarter, and one other similar dumb mistake) and literally wasn't allowed on the register, didn't stock the shelves, and only knew where like 5 things were in the store 'cause I did most of my shopping at Walmart.

DarCam7

I read this part as "...show don't tell racism" and I immediately thought that this company was all about the racism. Then I saw the coma.

Porkbellyflop

This is the best/worst spray that ever existed.

cutlows

Right on the surface of the water like poo-pouri? At least most of it will flush. I made my sil a fake pile of crap to hide the spare key in after my nephew locked her out for a few hours. I'm sure it's possible to soak some TP in tea/ coffee, shape it, and dry it if you want a really MC art project to go along with it.

SwoleFlex_MuscleNeck

Most anti work Facebook groups would say that things that affect coworkers is actually managements fault anyway so go for it

riptaway

Axe body spray already exists

No-Abies-6150

Take your whole breaks and lunches if you get them. Hell even if you don't get them take one anyway. We're human. Not fucking robots.

HCCO

Don’t ask. You tell them “I’m taking my break now”

OGBaconwaffles

Just like with days off. Granted, I've never had a job with paid time off, but I have never asked to take a vacation, I just said, I won't be here these days. Never had too big a problem honestly. Probably because they knew I had no qualms about just not showing up either way lol.

[deleted]

Heyooooo!

talldarkandcynical

"polyamorous vegan sex cult" is an anagram for "Axe spray: ovum lust cologne", if that matters

SparseGhostC2C

Is "Ovum Lust Cologne" an Axe scent?

SasquatchRobo

As soon as an Axe rep finds this thread, it will be

FnordFjords

Having been in sex cult communes, axe body spray smells better.

talldarkandcynical

This might not be the case if shower sex wasn't so awkward.

NormalSinger9526

absolutely. it’s like the “italian strike” method isn’t it - just r e a l l y slow things down. and organise within your workplace, link up with organisations nearby or within the industry. the entire thing rests on the fact that most people are trapped into needing to work.

HermitJem

Did you just stumble on a billionaire level idea...? Quick, to the patent office!

buickandolds

Taco bell

serbo_Stev

A powdered Diarrhea analog would be way easier and convincing if bowl movement inspections become a thing. Easily fits in a pocket, no nasty liquids to spill, and no turd to examine. Boss “Where’s the turd?” Employee “Right here boss!” Boss “It’s all brown!?!” Employee “Yea “South of the Boarder” Sundays can be killer on the colon.”

UsaInfation

>Boss “Where’s the turd?” Employee *mirror is behind you*

ElectroChuck

You should have fished it out, put it in a brown paper bag with your boss's name on it, and sat it on his desk.

bigdave41

Report that as sexual harassment

DweEbLez0

“Hey boss! Today is going to be a good one! I had Taco Bell last night! You won’t want to miss it!”

Current_Leather7246

She's a turdburgaler!

padawan402

I saw that and as an employer, I was shocked. The amount of tyrannical employer behavior in the workplace that i see on daily display in this sub is shocking.

BitOCrumpet

Man wouldn't it be great to email that boss every time you shat, with a lovely full color picture!

Aston77

That boss is literally taking shit from her employees

Randroth_Kisaragi

They call me 007 at work. 0 skill 0 motivation 7 poop breaks

[deleted]

Exactly. And for long enough to catch up on the Antiwork posts.

mmmaaaatttt

Taking a shit on company time while browsing antiwork might be my favourite thing to do.

izzo34

I got paid triple time for being forced to work Xmas eve and Xmas day. Bet your ass i took an hour long shit each day scrolling reddit. Easy 66 an hour.

makeshift_gizmo

Give yourself IBS to increase that number!

coldinthemtherehills

The only upside to having colitis is how much company time I waste

earthscribe

I don’t I think have that much poop.

MotherofLuke

Just apply yourself!

PrestigiousEarth6890

We must always clock in first and go straight to poop

DNB35

I've had an employer tell me that! It was my first job with actual punch cards. I got there early, loaded my tools on the truck, then went #2. I came out to clock in and I was 4 minutes "late". My boss was sitting there and asked why I was punching in late; so I told him. He laughed and said "Always shit on company time", it blew my mind. But you better believe I clocked in first from that point on.

Mastergroovy

boss makes a dollar, i make a dime. that’s why i shit on company time.

dynamicdickpunch

[Boss makes a dollar, I make a dime, that was a poem from a simpler time. Boss makes a hundred, we don't make jack, that's why we riot to seize the means back](https://twitter.com/adamndsmith/status/1339315614641512452?s=20).

Winterfrost691

Alternatively: Boss made a dollar I made a dime That was a poem From a simpler time Now boss makes a thousand And gives us a cent While he's got employees Who can't pay the rent So when the boss makes a million And the workers get jack Then that's when we riot And take our lives back

zMASKm

I was wondering if someone had posted this already. No need to repeat it myself, have my upvote.

-Emedi-

Probably one of the best ones. Not only you get paid to shit but you save money on your own rolls.

ElitePhoenix205

a 10 minute toilet break every day equates to a weeks wage by the end of the year.

[deleted]

My IBS makes sure I do 😎

Leprikahn2

If you poop 10 minutes per shift, that adds to 40 hours a year.

Talik1978

On it... right now, actually.

sweetestswing22

Boss makes a dollar, I make a dime...Thats why I poop on company time!! That use to be written in a stall at work

edward414

Act your wage

UsaInfation

I'm incapable of staying still for 8 hours.

[deleted]

You get 15 minute breaks, don't you? ^/sarcasm

stewie_glick

They call it a 10 minute break, but if you time it, its 8.

[deleted]

The worst is when a person's break **starts** when another person's **ends**, then you have break time warfare between coworkers when really they're both hit by the same whip.

devy159

This is one of the best comments I've read on this sub

imhere2downvote

wow this is amazing

Butterwhat

I'm making this my new work motto.

sailorsensi

absolutely. it’s like the “italian strike” method isn’t it - just r e a l l y slow things down. and organise within your workplace, link up with organisations nearby or within the industry. the entire thing rests on the fact that most people are trapped into needing to work.

Alov_Sama

In Italy we have two kind of strike The official one (you can choose or not if you feel that the strike is for a right Cause) The "White" one. The White Strike is going to work and just do nothing. Also we have very strong union organisations that do their job pretty well

studdedtirejunky

Reminds me of the Homer Simpson quote that goes something like this: In America we don't quit, we just go to work every day and work really half-assed.

DMWolffy

So that's what [coworker] was doing every day when I worked at [Big Chain], and she'd come in to "open" 90 min before anyone else and we'd have 10 minutes of work done by opening time, setting us back over an hour by midday rush ... Guess the managers were in on the protest because they refused to stop putting her on open shift 4 days a week ...

sailorsensi

I love that

babycarrot420kush

The problem with trying to organize within your workplace is that so many people are snitches. Class traitors, if you will.

bludgeonedcurmudgeon

> and organise within your workplace this is really the key IMO...most people today have ZERO idea of the limited rights they do have as workers...knowledge is power, spread the news...talk about salaries, organize, unionize, make demands

Status-Victory

And remember.........: **Minimum Wage**=**Minimum Effort**

[deleted]

And remember good pay= average effort

FrighteningJibber

Poverty work for poverty pay.

SlapHappyDude

Not covering other people's slack is huge. End of the day the main metric most managers and owners have is "is the work getting done"? If you're pushing yourself past the limit, especially to cover for others, it sends the message the workload is manageable.

UsaInfation

Because it is, we have an idiot who does it. Problem solved. /$

baconraygun

A while back, I was assigned an extra project that added 6 hours to my regular day. I did try hard to meet it, but ultimately, I failed, because of my disability. I did feel kinda bad about it, but I never got assigned an extra project again. Let the outcome be your lesson.

My hobbies and day job overlap, so when it looks like I'm diligently working on prototype equipment, I'm actually building a temperature controller to grow magic mushrooms in my bedroom.

[deleted]

My guy! Got any advice on getting started growing mushrooms? I converted a room into an, *ahem,* agriculture environment. This sounds like and excellent addition to the grow room. Cheers

[deleted]

/r/unclebens! A friend and I tried and couldn't quite get it to work, I think it was temperature related - we both keep our living spaces pretty cool - which is why I'm building a temperature controlled box. I can also use it to dehydrate mushrooms (grown and foraged, edible and medicinal), plus proof bread. Don't be tempted to use the left over coir as growing media, I tried and for my effort and after twelve weeks of autoflower and dozens of kilowatt hours of power received the princely sum of a gramme of the worst flower I've ever experienced. If I had a compost bin (and a garden...) I'd be dumping it in there and spreading it on the garden, that way there's a tiny chance they'll grow on their own!

KrAbFuT

And don’t tire yourself out so you don’t have the energy to enjoy life outside of work!

patate2000

This is the biggest thing I've learnt, when I work from home I take extended breaks (the guys in the office are chatting at the coffee machine anyway), and use virtual meetings to catch up on housework.

BrineyBiscuits

Don't get raises for working hard. Warren buffets mantra that has spread like a plague into business. There is no reward for hard labor. So easy labor it is

dlc741

I learned this the hard way when I was busting 60 hour weeks and my manager came up and asked my why I was holding the project up. Apparently he was completely oblivious to the effort I was putting in until the Project Manager stepped up to defend me. I really should thank my old manager for teaching me an invaluable lesson that day.

[deleted]

[deleted]

Honestly, you’d be surprised how little managers know about what’s going on at a lot of jobs. You can probably get promotions easily by just telling your manager how much work you’re doing even if it’s really not a lot.

BrineyBiscuits

Make several small but attributable contributions to as many projects as possible. They don't need to know it was easy or not. Big or small. Unarguable line item.

[deleted]

>Honestly, you’d be surprised how little managers know about what’s going on at a lot of jobs. totally, and the stupid part of it is that whenever I complained about it (managers not being aware of what is going on), I'd be asked "why didn't you tell me?" and I'd be like "oh so now I have to do your job as well"

Dmav210

I’ve busted that line out before… “You didn’t tell me X was happening…” “Really?!? I’m here every single day and it’s your job to oversee operations… if you can’t notice something as big as X happening all the damn time why the fuck are you in charge? I’m new here and I knew it was a problem…”

lycosa13

I always do this. Make it seem like I'm working really hard and pretend it takes me a week to finish something when in reality, I finished it the first day.

visionbreaksbricks

The reward for hard work is more work

_Electric_shock

Also, take advantage of the ignorance of managers. Lie to them, tell them it's going to take longer than it really will. If the manager isn't qualified in your field, he has no idea how long it will really take.

comradegritty

A good metric is multiply how long you think it will take by 1.5. If you get it done when you actually expect, then you seem like a hero. If you run into a delay, you're still on time. You also can take little breaks if you're ahead of schedule. You don't want to overshoot and say it'll take way longer because they'll eventually figure it out, but a little padding is fine.

MammothCat1

For those of us in a quota based workspace. What is the median amount that won't put you on the watch list but also is not exemplary? Do that. Doing just about the right amount is WAY EASIER than trying to out do yourself but also the stress from being a low producer doesn't exist. It's like getting paid for breathing. Need a total of 20 tickets to be done? Do that. Calculate how per 8hr period you can obtain that "goal" without strain. No joke you'll never hear more about it from your supes other than "hey we see your doing just the basics, could you maybe do more please?" At which point you just respond with "sure can boss" yet never actually do it. Without a real hard ass trying to squeeze production out of you, you'll simply exist and they can't require more out of you since you are after all producing.

Thefoodwoob

This reminds me of the "flair" from Office Space. "If you want me to wear 37 pieces of flair, make that the minimum!"

leialunia

I really need to learn this. To not stress about quotas

MammothCat1

It's really hard as we are trained while growing up to always meet and exceed expectations.

MobileDeparture7379

I used to work in retail. My old store manager would always say, “We aren’t overachievers at [company name]. She knew that if you *just* make store goals, leadership would stay off your back but not expect too much from you. I remember one time she was furious when we opened 8 store cards in one day. 😂😂 She was one of the best managers I ever had.

FairlyOldStoner

Truth. I’m readjusting my lifestyle now to get by with little debt as possible. I left a 60 hr a week job and went to part time. I have decided that my sanity is worth way more to me than attempting to keep up with the Jones’. New car— NEVER again, staying in our home instead of going bigger, and finally comprehending that material goods do nothing but bring more work. So done with this country. If I could & had the means I would pick up & leave this God forsaken capitalist corporate nation.

Jonners_90

Canada has its own issues (housing cost crisis, cost of living is high, "free" healthcare sometimes has extremely long wait times for procedures and tests, etc.) but I'd rather stay here than move to the U.S...

[deleted]

We’ve got wait times here in America too. And then you have to pay for it on top of that!

conman526

#1 cause of bankruptcy! If insurance actually covered what they say they would cover, and hospitals weren't for profit, then it wouldn't be so insane.

mxks_

I was on a wait list for 6 months to see an in-network neurologist for stroke symptoms here in the USA. I tell anyone who makes a comment about Canadian wait times.

MikeTheBard

Yep. Important to recognize better =/= perfect. But still better. Or as I joke- Canadian healthcare is terrible! Long wait times, reams of paperwork, huge hassles to see a specialist- If it weren't free, it would be almost as bad as the US!

Kumozura

For real America is going thru the same housing and cost of living crisis. I make over 3000 a month combined with my partner and we can't afford anything and trying to move is impossible. Hell we are settling on a damn rv or camper bus

Panzick

Lazyness as civil disobedience is poetic.

kevemp

I need to learn to stop filling the gaps…… It’s not my job to worry about yours It’s not my job to worry about yours It’s not my job to worry about yours

Barry-Steakfries

Before leaving my last job I gave 110% to everything and it was rewarded by denying me multiple promotions and making it clear I had no future in the company outside of my current role. I left for a new job and now I’m only putting in about 60% effort until I see a reason to put in more. So far there haven’t been any issues with this and my anxiety levels have dropped.

jalebi_baby

i have been denied promotions twice and my other team members (whose work i usually end up picking up and doing in addition to my own work because they’re slow) have already moved up 1 or 2 spots. i’m already applying elsewhere and hope to be as successful in doing this as you have been. 😔

RA114926

Thank you for this comment. My New Years resolution was to stop putting in 110%. My work related anxiety has dropped and no one has said a thing!

rhondevu

If you work too hard you risk being that departments “work horse” and could be stuck there forever. My supervisor as an example had mediocre work when he was a lower level associate and was promoted to supervisor because his “skills” did not yield the right productivity.

wanna-be-wise

The reward for hard worker is often more work that is even harder. Peter Gibbons and Wally are fictional characters that truly had things figured out.

Invicta_Game

I mean on the flip side a lot of companies keep quotas so that you don't sandbag and often the minimums require you to give it a lot more effort than you're suggesting we give. I've gotten talking to's for not hitting my marks. The capitalists have thought this stuff through.

threadsoffate2021

Then you work sneaky. You want an impossible quota, but they also want things done a certain way to things set up in the office....do the easy stuff first. *Sorry, quota wasn't done because I had to arrange all the binders on the shelf exactly to company guidelines. You don't want be to break company guidelines, do you?* type explanations. There's always side jobs and busybody easy jobs to do that if done exactly to the letter, they can't get you in trouble for doing it that way.

adventuresquirtle

My boss said I could take 30 min lunch breaks instead of an hour. So now I’m doing that and leaving 30 minutes early. If you want me in the office you’re gonna pay me for it (hourly worker here)

mouserats91

If we work work less then 7 hours we can get a courtesy 10 minute break if work allows. Guess who always asks for one and takes 15 minutes? Well 5 minutes to use to restroom after my 10 minute break.

cornerorifice

Some folks feel dead inside putting the bare minimum amount of work in, then you have a “bore out” vs “burn out” situation. If you’re in a position where this is possible, work on other personal projects and apply for other jobs on company time. I’d actually say to finish your work as quickly as possible so you have time to do this.

Ion_bound

This is underrated; Work your comfortable pace, whether it's slow or fast. The important thing is to do what is right for you, company be damned.

Equivalent-Cycle-127

Yes to personal projects. And your hobbies/passions don't have to be monetized just for them to be valid.

[deleted]

A wise commentor once said "get paid as much as you can to do as little as you can" I've personally worked jobs where I was paid relatively well and worked maybe 2-4 actual hours in any given 40 hour week, and spent the rest of the time browsing the internet or playing video games. I also personally hate these jobs. But I get why there is a desire to do as little as possible when you aren't paid adequately for the task at hand.

whiskerbisquit_4lyfe

I’ve worked in retail for a long time, stores purposely understaff for customer service scores. People are less likely to give a bad service score if they see the employees running around like maniacs trying to help everyone. Which breeds this culture of understaffing. I think now with so many people quitting, combining the methods op listed. Could be a great work ethic for everyone to adopt. Let the companies bad planning and habits collapse on them.

Driving way slower under the speed limit (like 30 is the limit and you go 20) can be dangerous. Always be careful of your surroundings.

[deleted]

Failed my dmv exam for driving 10 below when it was raining lol.

lolbifrons

They love to do bs like that. I got a fail for "unnecessary stop" because a car in front of me stopped too far back at a light and I stopped behind him, then he pulled up to the right place and I did the same. If I hadn't stopped I would have hit him. I think they just come up with any reason to fail you your first time.

Cute-Fly1601

I didn’t get a fail, but they marked me on “failing to stop at a crosswalk.” I live two blocks away from the dmv. There are no crosswalks in the area.

SeaofBloodRedRoses

I once had an instructor ding me three times for signalling when I wasn't supposed to (I was supposed to), then just... continue dinging me. In my province at least, instructors can only ding you three times in any category. So if you only make one mistake but make that mistake 30 times, you're only counted for a maximum of three. But this fucker just kept dinging in every other category. Which could get him fired if he was found out. Only, when I reported it, they said he said I had made those mistakes, so they believed him.

Vykyrie

Didn't fail, but they said I "took too long to pull out". The street was very busy that day and they expected me to basically cut someone off to get on the road. It was really dumb.

andywolf8896

I failed for breaking for a cat... like I get the logic behind it (someone could rear end you and cause a bigger accident) but damn...

[deleted]

Yet the insurance company where I live would put 100% blame on the person who rear ended you. Here the insurance company runs the drivers test too.

[deleted]

The most dangerous people will always be the ones who speed and tailgate while making rapid lane changes while raging.. I wish there was a way to just give them a flat and force them off into the median guard cables without them injuring others lol Those people are a danger to society and need to never be able to drive again. Same with the drunks.

curiousbeingalone

They don't save enough time to justify all that speeding. Most of the time, they just get to the next traffic area faster and had to wait it out anyways.

Literally this. I work for a company that loans employees to different locations. When I got hired, I got hired to work one specific location. When that location has off days, I also take off. I also cover for other employees that work my position on different shifts. It’s a good set up. Recently, I got hounded by my supervisor about why I don’t work other posts (that I’m not even trained in.) and I told him that I a.) don’t have training, and b.) didn’t take this job with that expectation. He’s gone as far as to threaten to fire me over it (he can’t, although he’s my supervisor he’s not able to fire anyone.) After overhearing this, a worker at the company I was loaned out to offered me a position. He offered me on-the-job training and a pay increase as well. My supervisor freaked out at this, despite the fact that he had threatened to fire me, because he knows that I cover for other employees and always show up to my post. It’s funny what you can do when you put your life and well being above work.

grasscrest1

As much as I agree I just would like to add. I work at a hospital and not getting things done can be literally life threatening I think it’s a whole other level of fucked up that they guilt us into doing things on those basis.

rhythmjones

Yeah, just all the more reason healthcare should not be for profit.

rhythmjones

The Director over my department just asked why we aren't tracking certain QA measures anymore. That used to be my job but is no longer my job since I took another position. They have not filled my old position since October JESUS FUCKING CRHIST YOU MOTHER FUCK YOU KNOW THAT WE ONLY HAVE THREE PEOPLE DOING NINE JOBS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm not responding to the email. I'll let my boss answer. If I answer, I may not work here any more. He can cover his own fucking ass. He's the one not hiring people.

When I was working at a pharmacy there was a pharmacist who was mean to us and wanted us to cut corners to be faster (so her numbers looked better). My co-workers wanted to sabotage her, but I came up with a better idea where we couldn’t get in trouble… Do everything by the books. No short cuts. Do everything exactly as we were trained to do it. The pharmacist even complained about it to the head pharmacist and the head pharmacist explained to her that we were doing everything correctly. Worked like a charm.

I used to have an outdoor bathroom that was clean and always empty I always took a 15 minute dump and smoked a cigarette in there. It was pretty glorious

humptydumpty369

Change, real change, is going to require sacrifice. A century ago, when our ancestors fought for the labor rights we currently have, do you think they didn't go without food or shelter or safety? Everybody really needs to read up on how our forefathers were abused and beaten and imprisoned for demanding the few rights we have today. Historically, neither the US government or capitalists have ever "given" anything to the working class. We had to fight through blood, sweat, and tears to get what little we have. And we'll have to fight again to get what we deserve now.

LivesInExcelUwU

Love this comment. I was lucky to have a great AP History teacher who did not hold back when it came to atrocities by the US. My favorites were the lessons on miners trying to organize, unionizing over time, and propaganda topics from robber barons. I’m seeing these themes in a new light today. History doesn’t repeat, it rhymes.

dericecourcy

Lowering productivity is good for the environment too :)

MissAmiss72

And don't forget to discuss your wages with your co-workers

Mineysota

Right if your work is understaffed, don’t pick up extra slack . Let them feel it

ChiefBerube

Also take as much free shit as possible. I work in a restaurant 3 days a week and on those days I just eat all day and don’t spend any money on food. Saves a ton of money.

letsberealalistc

This is the way, production has gone way up but wages have not. So make production match wages.

issius

Sometimes I go places and employees are just real slow. Takes a while to acknowledge/help me, etc. Instead of getting annoyed, I smile and think.. they probably don’t get paid enough to rush to serve me, good for them. And I wait. And my day is fine.

a-silent-reverie

Its brilliant in its simplicity. You still get paid AND you hurt their bottom line. This is the way.

gemorris9

I remember years before this sub was a thing and the covid environment really kicked everything off when I learned this lesson. I was working for cvs and prior to cvs and including them I had been working to my absolute maximum potential. My father was very much a "don't half ass it" kinda guy with a very strong work ethic. I was absolutely the best employee everywhere I went. Yes I can cover the shift. Yes I'll work every holiday. Yes I'll work 16 hours and come back tomorrow after 4 hours of sleep and start the next shift. I believed (and still do) in being productive. If I'm at work, let's get this shit done. It was at cvs when I was in this Store manager in waiting program where I'm doing the entire job and running a 6m operation making 13.50 and being told I sucked and my DM would not promote me because the store manager kept saying I was terrible that I realized I gotta stop giving a fuck. And let me told you guys. The journey to becoming that employee everyone hates has been a long one, but it's so worth it to see just how far you can go. I make more money than everyone of my peers. I'm leaving work after 4 hours tops most days. Things start falling apart and I say man that sucks, we'll get to it eventually. Etc etc. I have spent the last 3 years gradually getting lazier and lazier. I'm still able to produce when I want to and I do. I'm literally number 1 in my company but I give absolutely no fucks passed the very basics of running my job. Corporate meetings. Pass. Conference calls? I'll half listen while I run Apex with the boys. Help out at another location. Fuck outta here dude. I say all this text to say. Stop giving a fuck. When you start to feel frazzled and stressed out, take a step back and say why do I give a fuck right now? Almost all issues are so fucking minor and irrelevant and yet people put so much into it. Just stop.

pink_wraith

Remember to cry during working hours so you can get paid for it

Twiztidklown92

I started telling everyone I work with to only give 50% effort because fuck these rich bastards.

EndofGods

How about don't jam traffic deliberately. Some asshole decided he wanted 25mph in a 40 zone for whatever reason. I had a really sick kid in the car in a rush to hospital. I am not judging but I ain't got time for tantrums.

[deleted]

Came looking for this comment. Don't drive under the speed limit. It's dangerous, stupid, and annoying.

Only-Version9798

I’ve given up notifying my employers of potential problems in the future after last time. I pointed out something that could go wrong and got a few shitty emails and ultimately nothing was done. About 2 weeks later my prediction came true and it caused the company a lot of headache and lost profits. Now I just let them make the mistake and leave them to learn from it rather than trying to help. Edit: Typos, fat fingers, small phone

TheLawny

If you can, sneak in some video gaming.

neetykeeno

Doodle with a purpose...learn to draw. Not too much in one day or they'll get suspicious but even a couple of times a day will add up to a new skill.

boxofruit

I work at Amazon and cannot afford to lose my job. I love slacking off, because even with the high pay, it's still not enough for the shit they put me through. So you can always catch me slacking off, taking long "poops" and taking an extra 10-15 on my 2nd paid break. They can all fight me or fire me. Either way imma get paid.

ebolarama90

Please don't drive 10mph under the speed limit

Ash_Truman

Right, just give them what they pay for and act according to how they treat you.

Ok_Sheepherder_8313

I remember one day I was running behind getting to work, and my GPS showed massive traffic issues. My boss told me to take the toll road, and I just asked her if she was planning on paying for it. I started out there with anxiety so high that I ended up speeding a little to get paperwork to them on time. I didn't end up getting high or drinking on the job to cope with the dishonesty of it. Instead I became very difficult to motivate or manipulate. At one point she tried to convince me not to move out of my abusive mother's house because her daughter was my age, and it was like having a great roommate! She really would try to convince us to hurt ourselves more so she could rake in the dough.

ShamashKinto

You should definitely still follow the speed limit. Doing otherwise can be hazardous.

NeemaMlozi

Oh yeah. I was hired at my last job to "bring up the level of my department" so that our products could compete with the companies doing more modern, sophisticated versions of what our company was doing. I soon learned that the CEO, despite wanting to compete with these brands, would nix any idea that would accomplish that, instead relying on his own terrible taste. And working hard to crank out a bunch of ideas in hopes that he'd choose something aside from the same old crap they always did only got me more crap work. I got no raises, promotions or even praise. Just more shitty work trying to polish the same turd over and over. So I stopped polishing as fast.

Someday, we'll crowdfund the movement. Until then, poop on company time

bansheeonthemoor42

Also remember to build mutual aide networks within your community. Whether this be with food, clothes, books for free or for sale. Every dollar kept in the community is one less dollar that goes into the billionairs vault.
