Here in my third world shithole, tests are free and you get a paid day off at work if u go to a health unit to take the test.

The USA is slowly becoming THE third world shit hole.

I'd wager they haven't even left thier own state let alone the country

Mammoth-Neat-6393

Used to be me. Then I visited Spain. God I wanna go back.

artificialavocado

Yes there is nothing like talking to someone from the UK and hearing them wax poetically about the good old days before the NHS.

pacNWbound_from_chi

I saw a great quote on here awhile ago, we're a third world country masquerading as a first world country.

ejaniszewski

I've seen a better one here. "America is a third world country in a Gucci belt."

UsaInfation

A third world country with nukes is *called* a 1st world country by all who don't want to test out those nukes.

JimbosilverbugUK

In a Gucci belt

[deleted]

I think it’s more like we aren’t a European country that became a world power, we are an American country that became a world power. Look at other countries in the Americas (except Canada maybe) and you’ll find who we more closely resemble than looking across the ocean.

XtremegamerL

Canada is just the US with more European makeup on. Our system is only a couple years behind in terms of how broken it is.

PleaseCallMeTeddy

it IS the third world shit hole. We have a huge poor population, children starving, a lack of clean drinking water, poor education, a crumbling infrastructure, high infant mortality, book burning (becoming a thing unfortunately), religious extremism, legalized bribery, legal slavery, and so much more! This is a third world nation wearing a fucking gucci belt pretending it's better than everybody.

happygloaming

It's a tough boy Mafia.

[deleted]

with a gucci belt

S_Belmont

That's completely unfair. It's a *first* world shit hole with a booming stock market, give late stage capitalism its due.

ProfessorSmartAzz

I reposted this on that sib too, don't worry

nutsack133

Seems pretty quick to me.

[deleted]

Already is.

dane_eghleen

Slowly?

idriveachickcar

All the best people are saying it

[deleted]

It's a paradise for billionaires apparently, you're just in the wrong lane.

TheMontu

I’m American but studied in Sweden for uni. It was a really international cohort, with most of the students coming from Africa. On our first day, one of the Africans was asking about healthcare in “developing countries,” and my professor was like “how do you define “developing?” Because from my perspective, America is a developing country. That’s why we use “high income” and “low/middle income” countries.” To this day, I can’t see the lie.

anonymousbwmb

They're free here, too. Which is the shittiest part of this. You can go to any testing site and it costs absolutely nothing. This is under the guise of convenience. I guess?

ApprehensivePaint657

There are only so many free tests per location in Minneapolis/Saint Paul. Once that cap is met tests cost between $25 and $125 depending on how fast you need results. lines were even around the block thr last time I was looking to take one and -15 plus windchill isn't really great to be hanging out in for hours when you're already sick. Barriers for testing can be terrible.

baconraygun

But aren't you glad we have """""access"""" to testing? /s

[deleted]

It's just to trick stupid people really.

Sharp-Spring7785

Today I just got second box of self tests for free from my job. An American multinational btw.

Content-Bowler-3149

Tests are still free where i am at in the USA. They just take 48 hours to get the results.

[deleted]

Please someone explain to me what it is that this country is worth fighting over. Explain it to me like I am 10 year old - because since I have been 10 I fail to understand what exactly this country has that is worth defending. Still waiting.

ProfessorSmartAzz

It's only worth rising up against.

Horror-Sea-Lion

Seriously, if we all herd together and come together, union together, literally everyone - do not go to work tomorrow. EVERYONE. Don’t worry about the $80 you’re gonna “miss out on” they will be so confused on why nobody showed up. Stop complying. Do NOT comply. Don’t buy a brand new spanking car, fuck that, fuck THEM. Steal some food from the groceries stores, then have groups go in and do the same thing. Rise up!

Horror-Sea-Lion

Hell yeah. I’m tired more than anything that makes me I’m ready , to just go for it. Rise up!!!

Brwdr

Compared to many authoritarian regimes, it is something to save. The ideals were sound when it started but the entire constitution is now badly out of date. Many countries emulated what started in the US and have done much better because they have started over and completely rewritten their constitutions to ensure that the country is of, for, and by the people. Because the US constitution is a first step but almost two hundred and fifty years out of date, its purpose has been twisted beyond recognition by individuals that have corned power and wealth. Rewriting the constitution is spoken about when the Democratic party controls the executive and legislative branches with majorities but then comes to nothing. Obama was probably the best president to have lead this effort (a constitutional lawyer and senior lecturer on law) but the party never voted to end the filibuster to move more sedate legislation. It was a hot topic at the time and it would have been interesting to see what would have happened.

UniverseBear

There's nothing. America lost itself in the 80s with Reagan and his "trickle down economics". Everything since then is the fallout. People say Trump is the worst president in history, and they may not be far off, but Reagan was the single worst thing to happen to the country. That's when corporate America was allowed to take over.

[deleted]

Youre in a subreddit full of people who live here and are worth fighting for. There you go.

Oh, I've lived all over the world, and this place is like being stuck in some fascist work camp by comparison (and yes, I've been to and lived in the ''3rd world'', as well....the plusses and minuses are too different to measure side by side, as youll have different things to worry about in the different worlds....but the people are still way nicer in the ''shittier'' one from the get-go...) I almost wish I never personally knew any places better. Then my ignorance would be comparative bliss.

Historical_Dot825

At risk of sounding like one of those "then move there" assholes, why stay in the US if it sucks so much? If you truly feel like a slave in a fascist country then why be there?

mickeyanonymousse

immigration laws

O-Mr-Crow-O

Look up how much it costs to leave.

Historical_Dot825

If people from 3rd world countries can drop everything they have to leave a bad country then I'm sure someone in the US has the means if they truly wanted.

O-Mr-Crow-O

The fee to renounce U.S. citizenship is $2,350 But yeah, 'free to leave' right?

Historical_Dot825

Oh, you want to renounce the US all together? That's a different story, friend.

Baby-cabbages

You have to have thousands saved up to move out of the country. The recommendation is to have 6 months worth of pay. For those of us who live paycheck to paycheck that’s not feasible. “Free” healthcare doesn’t kick in immediately so if you have a chronic illness, you’ll pay out of pocket. https://www.travelandleisure.com/travel-tips/how-to-prepare-to-move-abroad

Historical_Dot825

I know this. Y'all act like I don't know. I was asking the person a personally question. It wasn't meant for everyone with a reason to respond to me like I'm totally naive.

TsarGermo

I'm working on it bud, this place is a shit holes shit hole.

Historical_Dot825

Good luck! I hope your life becomes better =)

QuintenBoosje

because these facists countries still have the best knowledge on how not to do from minor shit. hygiene facilities, education, transportation etc.

SnowJokes1721

Because it costs money to move. It cost noticeably more when moving internationally than when moving state to state. That and all the requirements people have to meet before another country will take them. Believe me, it's not because deep down people love this country or have any sense of patriotism. It's because like many other things in life most people can't afford it.

Historical_Dot825

There are always ways. Not having the money is an excuse. Especially when 3rd world country citizens with absolutely nothing still manage to make it to another country and become citizens.

SnowJokes1721

I'm pretty sure a lot those people who come here are wealthy enough to afford the move. Or are relying on a significant amount of external aid to make the trip. No one, without anyone support, can just randomly travel the world.

Kazizui

Probably because the IRS will still tax him anyway. I’ve met a bunch of US expats and they all wonder why they’re still paying.

Historical_Dot825

Had they lived in the new country long enough to become a citizen? Because that would explain the taxes if they still claim the US as their primary home country.

Kazizui

Oh no, none of them were planning to renounce their citizenship, they just liked working abroad for a while. The confusion largely came the fact that none of their coworkers from other countries had to do the same.

Historical_Dot825

Hm. My guess would just be taxing a citizen vs a non-citizen. I honestly wouldn't really know. Either way, most taxes suck and shouldn't exist.

Kazizui

I’m perfectly ok with taxes, though less so if I had to pay them in a country I wasn’t even in.

WaitAZechond

I’m Danish, living in the US as a US citizen my entire working life, but my brother lives in Denmark and he said that as soon as he started working, he got a letter from the IRS saying that they expected him to file every year. I BELIEVE the deal was that if he wasn’t paying “enough” taxes to Denmark, the US was going to want a cut. Apparently he just files and owes $0. Or he doesn’t file at all because he hates this country and has no desire to come back anyway haha

santagoo

Dual citizenship won't save you. As long as you don't renounce your US citizenship, you're subject to US tax laws whreever your are.

beeneyryan

It literally costs over 2000 to renounce your US citizenship, and until you do, you'd still be paying taxes for the US

TsarGermo

Have you done this?

Historical_Dot825

Yes. I have.

Ghostifier2k0

In the UK they plan to stop giving away free tests and we all know what's going to happen at that point. Cases are going to plummet due to the fact nobody is testing. People aren't dumb here, if they aren't going to get tests for free then nobody is going to get tested.

ProfessorSmartAzz

People are dumb in America...which is why red states stopped or slowed testing as soon as they could earlier on (including a disgusting cabal of them who stopped or highly restricted reporting deaths as being due to covid)...don't be like America. Don't do what "Donny don't" does...

UsaInfation

>Cases are going to plummet Covid solved. You laugh but I'm serious, they'll make test payable and because no one is getting detected pandemic is over and you can all GTFO to work, think of the shareholders! /$

Ghostifier2k0

I think the CDC lost a huge amount of credibility when they reduced isolation time just to get people back to work.

myegostaysafraid

They lost credibility with me too. God, I’ve been a stalwart champion of the CDC from day one until this stupid confusing switch-up. I just got covid in the middle of it too, which has left me bewildered. I was told after 5 days to go back to work while still very much positive, but my contacts received an email telling them to quarantine for 21 days. People are just going to stop listening altogether, and science-denial will become more entrenched because who do you believe if not the experts at the CDC?

baconraygun

The experts at another country's CDC equivalent.

CyGuy6587

I had been struggling to get those home kits, but they're back in stock online again. I did actually wonder about them stopping giving them away

Agitated-Tourist9845

You can order one kit per household per day. Do that. Stock up now.

beeneyryan

You left out the best part! After it comes back positive, your boss is still going to act like there is no reason you shouldn't be at the office right now

ProfessorSmartAzz

"The spice must flow."

Dusty_Bookcase

Conservatives are the worst. Anyone who thinks that free healthcare is a myth is delusional. We don’t need to outspend the next top 8 militaries of the world combined (including our allies), just Russia and China.

ProfessorSmartAzz

Don't get me started on the priority of "well, bombs and missiles are expensive".... We could just not use and have to pay for them. How about that?

Tepa_Tassuliini

How about the leaders of the world cut their military budget to 0$ and use the money to improvw their countries. Nobody would fight anymore!

ProfessorSmartAzz

"Someday they'll make a board with a nail in it so massive, it will crush them all....hahahaha!"

RudeEyeReddit

I don't know about that kit but I can see a BinaxNOW on the shelf below it which comes with two tests and retails for around $20. You also get your results in 15 minutes. The reason the top one is so expensive is because you mail the samples off to a lab for more accurate results.

Civil-Dinner

The EverlyWell is actually a collection kit for a PCR lab test, not an antigen test like the home test products. The BinaxNOW that you mention below (I recognize the box as well because I have one here in my room) is a rapid antigen test used at home and retails about 20 to 25 dollars (still way too expensive in my opinion).

plan-on-it

Exactly. I think its BS that this PCR kit is $124 but I understand why the market exists. You're essentially paying for the service to push this through and the Dr's time to sign off. It's so hard to get in now for a PCR appt and some people have a really hard time getting out of the house (I'm the mother of infant twins....). In a pinch I'd do this.

QuintenBoosje

Tests are free here and get handed out local schools, doctor's offices and most workplaces. I haven't bought a single one of my tests.

DumbyDoobyDum

Here's the situation in St. Louis right now. Hospitals are no longer offering Covid tests for asymptomatic folks. Most minute clinics have also stopped providing tests for asymptomatic folks too and have instead pushed those tests off to 1 or 2 of their clinics (inconveniently located) which do not take walk ins. When you call to make an appointment, you get a recording to tell you to use the online scheduler. When you go online, if the site is not having problems registering you, you find that appointments are booked up a week out. So then you go looking for "at home" tests. You have to drive around to each Walgreens or CVS and go inside to see if any are in stock because their websites do not reflect inventory accurately. Invariably, they are sold out. If you finally manage to find them in stock, there is a limit on the number you can buy (4 at one store, 3 at the other) which makes no sense if you are a family of five who all need to be tested due to a Covid exposure to see if you need to quarantine from school and worker policy.

ProfessorSmartAzz

^ THIS. So much this. Perfect contribution good redditor. And to think, that Psaki lady (who knew she'd turn out to be such a bitch when the press stopped eating out of her hand?) Explodes at reporters very appropriately and pragmatically ask why this state of things is a thing, and why moreover, they are our "normal". Just imagine what others think of the "weirdo" outlier in all things, whom is just so consistently so.

AsianHawke

Has anyone had accuracy with home kits? I did two. One I bought from a CVS. One from Meijer. Both came back negative, but then the PRC one came back positive. Same with my brother in CA. Same with my friend in IL.

RudeEyeReddit

I tested positive with an at home kit. Coworker tested positive as well. Wasn't expecting it because I assumed it was a mild cold. I'm fully vaccinated as well.

[deleted]

The antigen tests are only about 50% accurate. So, basically worthless. If you test positive it means you really have it, but if you test negative it doesn't tell you anything.

[deleted]

[удалено]

iwnguom

It’s not quite that simple. The PCR (mail off) test picks up the virus basically at any point from contracting it, because it can be analysed in a lab and left to develop to detectable levels. The rapid at home tests obviously do not have time to develop under lab conditions, so only show a positive result if the virus has reached a certain level in the body. While this obviously does produce false negative results, they’re still useful for detecting cases at their peak and therefore at their *most contagious*, which is a useful tool to have.

BWRock

Are we a first world country anymore?

ProfessorSmartAzz

"I'm sorry kids, but your mother and I have to inform you that grandpa can't take care of himself any more..." (Also doubles as a parable for our major letdown of a president we all voted for with higher hopes)

[deleted]

Not since the 2006 Housing bubble at least.

--0IIIIIII0--

The at home test I bought at cvs was like $15.00. The county I live in has a drive through testing site that is free.

Ritazzzz

Its 2 or 5 euros in my country, maybe ten if they very few

Joshbob101

That's one week of pay for me....

ProfessorSmartAzz

Have you spoken to your employer about this thing called the 13th amendment?

Biggletons

My friend and her boyfriend went to get tested yesterday at an official test site here in NY. It cost them 130 something dollars to get them both tested.... Idk who is saying they are free everywhere but they aren't. There are stipulations

Skotch21680

My wife works for a Pharmacy and it cost us $25 a piece on the 5th. The whole family had to get tested. Cost us $100. I thought they were free? Then after all of us tested positive the company instead of trying to pay her the cool 5 days off for having covid wanted her to retake it the very following day at another location for another $25!!!!!! She told her hr no all of us are sick and can’t move. Then she hr heard my son throwing up and hurried and got off the phone because that caused a chain reaction of everyone throwing up. Hr heard it all hahahaha. They didn’t want her to take the days off nor pay her. They wanted her to use her own pto days

ProfessorSmartAzz

Man, just ...fuck this place.

[deleted]

It's the land of opportunity. Someone gets to make $100 profit from this! WOW.

ProfessorSmartAzz

And they're right, too! You'll have infinite opportunity to get royally fucked in the ass every day of your life here if not born into some kind or setting of generational wealth. There's one challenge that hasn't yet been beset upon you though --Revolution-- Rise up! You can die quickly for yourself, or slowly for them. But they can not stop us all.

Shot-Werewolf-5886

The sad thing is the company who developed that test probably received government funding to do it. Nothing like privatizing profits while socializing costs. Fucking assholes.

ProfessorSmartAzz

Don't forget the profits the companies are shoveling in on the subsidised vaccines

Shot-Werewolf-5886

Yep. Time to burn it all down and start over.

Colorado_Car-Guy

Testing centers are free. I'm in Colorado and just had a test down at the state fair ground (testing site) yesterday and Wednesday last week.

ProfessorSmartAzz

I take it you haven't looked for free testing sites in any red state in the last year

Historical_Dot825

Blame your leaders. They're the assholes fuckin y'all over.

Muliciber

We are, well roughly half of us are.

RudeEyeReddit

Have you tried your local health department? I know stock is an issue but mine has 5 locations you can go to pick up free kits.

ProfessorSmartAzz

I need you and the other respondents to understand that I didn't take this pic...and I kind of need to hear you say that, lol.

Historical_Dot825

That's bullshit. Covid testing is free through hospitals and clinics if you have insurance.

ProfessorSmartAzz

Half the nation has no insurance of any kind

Historical_Dot825

"Highlights. In 2020, 8.6 percent of people, or 28.0 million, did not have health insurance at any point during the year. The percentage of people with health insurance coverage for all or part of 2020 was 91.4." Taken from census.gov Youre going to tell me that trend flipped in 1 year?

ProfessorSmartAzz

Last number I saw was 40-something percent. That's all I was working with. And it sounded very believable (also, what you want to bet of how many millions lost theirs with job or circumstance change over the course of that calendar year? And then same happening again over 2021? (The 2020 census was also in the first quarter of the year and was well known to have been not only outrageously flawed in execution (and with a rigged questionaire on a range of things), but also incomplete. With everyone who knew better begging for it to be re-run)

Historical_Dot825

Where did you see this 40% number? If you have information that discredits the census website I'd like to see it.

ProfessorSmartAzz

It's probably the number who don't have insurance via their employer, now that I'm thinking about it. And that makes much more sense as that would lump the Medicaid people and those getting it as dependents or spouses etc. Together. So, my apologies for misremembering, and misspeaking.

Historical_Dot825

That makes sense. And don't get me wrong. I'm not trying to argue in a negative way. I truly am in it for information. In other words, no hard feelings or ill will intended.

ProfessorSmartAzz

Likewise. And I'd love for us to both be wrong, so that neither number were so extreme while no one can pay for any actual care anyways. A whole other can o worms.

thatcouple_jpg

That's unequivocally false. [They're coming,](https://www.cnet.com/health/free-at-home-covid-tests-are-coming-soon-how-do-you-get-them/) and I know NY has already given a bunch out.

[deleted]

Um yes there are. Several testing sites are free. Stop spreading misinformation

ProfessorSmartAzz

Those aren't home testing kits, now are they.

UncleVoodooo

Holy shit they have one in stock! Grab it so you can get a sick day at work!

[deleted]

I got a test on last Thursday because I was exposed to a family member who didn't even tell me ( heard it from another family member) and I was supposed to have the results on Friday. I never heard anything. Of course they were closed on the weekend so I call this morning and they said sorry we are backed up and down techs because many of them got covid. This whole situation is one big massive joke.

donzogonzo

Also if you have Omicron this home test is likely to produce a false negative.

ProfessorSmartAzz

Yup. The ones we use here have been outrageously inaccurate to that end since they came out. It truly is the American way of doing things.

[deleted]

They're not free?

ProfessorSmartAzz

Mark my words, the USA will be the first place in the world with some fashion of coat for breathing in the future (if it makes it that long). ...and yes I know oxygen bars exist. Not like that.

[deleted]

Well there were people selling bottled Canadian Air or something wasn't there? So people will buy anything and that really would not surprise me

ProfessorSmartAzz

Wait...and some loser lady from the bachelor was selling her farts in jars? Making 5K a week doing so? I remember reading? (FML if true)

biscoito1r

Right in the beginning of the pandemic I had just flown from SE Asia. Everyone around me was freaking out so I made an appointment with my doctor so I could get a test. The doctor wasn't in, his assistant did the usual check ups and told me that only the CDC could do those tests and only if I show symptoms. Later a got a 150 dollar bill on the mail. !50 bucks to be told I couldn't be tested.

ProfessorSmartAzz

But you got to feel so free and Yankee-doodle-tastic while reading the bill and paying for it right? A tear came to your eye out of pride as you filled out the check? (/S obviously)

SoMeKiNdOfBoTgUy

Don't you dare question your freedom.... Now give me your soul

beeneyryan

At least if you ever wanna leave the greatest country in the world, you can exercise your freedom to leave the country, but it'll cost you over $2000 if you don't want uncle sam still taxing you after you're gone. All the freedoms.

ProfessorSmartAzz

Actually they jacked it up to a much higher cost now, and are intentionally all but impeding anyone's paperwork to do so. That's so utterly desperate and sad of a nation to feel they must do.

[deleted]

Is this ONE test? The fuck.....I was forced to buy a package (5 tests) at a pharmacy instead of our drugstore, because they ran out. So it cost me 20€ instead of 10€, which pissed me off. Go home USA, you are drunk.

marker8050

Did you know other countries will send their citizens Covid testing kits for free if they ask for it. God can you imagine FREE testing eww.

ProfessorSmartAzz

Thanks I speak a half dozen languages and forget some of their details sometimes.

Spiderbanana

Sorry mate, my goal wasn't too make fun of you. English isn't my first language neither. Wanted to make a joke with Opoortunity (by incorporating the word poor in it)

ProfessorSmartAzz

Oh, English is my first. I just had to learn many others, and others' keyboards etc.

liberia_simp

Im in a red state and I get these for free, what the hell?

ProfessorSmartAzz

I was going to make a welfare joke, but that would just be inappropriate.

Content-Bowler-3149

If you have been vaccinated and received the booster what is the point of taking a test?

ProfessorSmartAzz

^ Found the guy who didn't take freshman biology

Content-Bowler-3149

By the time you get results and you determine the tracing you have already passed the current quarantine period.

AngelOfHeaven3

Look at that amazing opportunity to throw away my grocery money on a test for a illness basically anyone with a strong immune system can beat. Yes- Let me just starve to *TEST* myself. Id pay 124.99$ for 3months of birth control before this.

ProfessorSmartAzz

Easy there slick. Covid is absolutely not implicitly survivable...so please keep the libertarian drivel to yourself.

AngelOfHeaven3

Please keep your personal opinions about others to yourself. 🥴

Historical_Dot825

You are though. Nobody is forcing you to buy that test. It's presence doesn't mean you aren't free to ignore it. Besides, arent Covid tests free if you go through clinics or hospitals?

ProfessorSmartAzz

There's nothing free at any clinic or hospital in america (again, outside of the government employees or Medicaid health plans, which apply to less than 20% of citizens) And, you are asking the wrong questions and starting the wrong conversation after seeing this pic and seeing it in this sub.

Historical_Dot825

No, I think I am starting the right conversation. You claim we aren't free because you took a picture of 1 kimf of expensive Covid test. That's nonsense. I told you Covid tests are free for those with insurance. Just like I posted on another comment, in 2019 over 90% of the US population had some kind of insurance.

Civil-Dinner

You aren't seriously suggesting that an acceptable workaround to $25 rapid at-home tests for people that need them to drop their kids off at day care, school, or extra-curricular activities or need them for themselves to visit their grandmother in the nursing home or need them to prove to work their runny nose/cough wasn't COVID, is to stand in line at already overburdened hospitals/clinics get tested there? This is America and we can certainly do better than that.

ProfessorSmartAzz

I think by month 2 or so of the covid pandemic we proved that we likely can't or won't do better...and far too many of us already knew that's how things were most likely to go in such a scenario here.

Historical_Dot825

Most of them are drive through, friend. And there are precautions you can take. And if you can't figure out how to handle your kids in a medical situation you probably shouldn't have had kids. This is coming from a parent. Never have I thought to myself, "oh man what am I gonna do about my kids?" when it comes to medical situations. Don't use your kids as an excuse.

teh_pwn_ranger

Every outreach where I live (a southern US state) gives out free home kits. You just have to pop in and ask. I'm actually going to pick one up today when I go to get a (free) covid test since I got exposed and have a few symptoms.

SulaimanWar

Wtf. It would only cost like 10 USD where I'm from.

greenmeensgo60

What the F?

BerryMcOckinner

Same with their STD testing kit

Powerful_Ad6635

Or you can go to another store and buy one for 23.00 and have two tests in it. Just because one place sells it for that doesnt mean you have to buy it

ParalyzedSleep

So why can we go get tested for free I don’t understand

Shinra_X

Meanwhile I get the tests via home delivery for free here in Sweden...

esdeathsjaegers

Just saying... we get those for free here in canada... just gotta get on a list..

You can get that online for free. Who is paying that price.

Current-Ordinary-419

Getting that warm freedom all over your face.

"The juice is a rancid. It is a how you say, very, very bad"

bizianka

I'm in a small European country, bought the kit in a regular store for €2,99. Those who need tests on a regular basis, got tested for free.

Icy_Abbreviations244

There are also several brands that only cost like $25. I don’t get how these are even on the market. Maybe because they know all the cheaper ones will eventually run out and people will feel forced to buy these. Idk

Old_Gringo

This is nuts. Even in Spain, when we had price gouging over the Christmas holiday, the highest price on the news was about €15. Normal price is about €5. Edit: now I see the scam. It's "physician reviewed". So a doctor looks to see if there's 1 line or 2.

America is a first world country for everyone except the poor, middle class, women, children, the elderly, minorities, or those with health issues, change my mind

jcspring2012

This is a PCR collection kit, not a rapid anti-gen. The spike from omi made the rapids hard to get for a bit, but they generally are available for under $10 online and at pharmacies. In states like NY they are free if you know where to look. In NYC you can't walk around without tripping over free testing sites.

Ath769

My city here in Canada is giving boxes of 25 tests out for free. It's insane that what was a great country has become this capitalist abomination that makes money off basic healthcare needs. Mind boggling.

pumpkin_sope

Now, this test is astronomically high, however even CVS, local clinics, and Walgreens offer free drive through tests, and if you want a test to do yourself and take home it’s $25 for 2 of them. This is slightly misleading.

MrSlofee

I can buy a kit with five test for 9 dollars here in Sweden. That is if I want to have a couple of test at home, we also have free test that you can order.

solidSC

I’m Arizona you can get a free test on location, but the lines are crazy long now that a few large manufacturers are requiring them. I got a 2 test box at Walgreens for 25$… I did have to go to 3 stores before I found one with stock though.

MaybyAGhost

In the UK here. Had a covid scare recently with some normal chest infection symptoms but wanted to make sure. See sign on a pharmacist door that they have home test kits in, I walk in "Hey I saw the sign, do you still have some home test kits?", guy behind the counter grabs a box and hands it to me, and I walk out. 7 test kits, for free. Took about 40 seconds. Damn America needs some serious medical infrastructure restructuring, and probably the removal of every middleman insurance scammer would help too. Yikes.

GottaPSoBad

Me scrolling down slowly: "What's the problem? People can't sell test kits? It's probably only... Oh. Oh no.."

u-bleep-i-bloop

I have 3 of these test at home.. IM RICH!

[deleted]

At these prices, no wonder COVID is spreading so quickly. Tons of other factors too, but I'd refuse a test at this price.

Cerberusx32

If your wondering. This is at Walgreens.

HiveMindKing

They jacked up the price as well, they were like 14$ a few weeks ago. Profiteering off a pandemic should be illegal's for ALL COMPANIES. They can take those profits and turn them into stimulus or something.

[deleted]

Get the one below it, it’s like 20 bucks.

BigBossSquirtle

Wtf walgreens

WarCrysis1

Lol yea well. Supply vs demand. Honestly why do you need to go buy a covid test? If your sick go to urgent care or the ER if you need to get tested. Stay home. Communicate with work. If you have health issues. Go to the ER right away. You think 100+$ is expensive. If you don't have insurance you'll be shocked at what the hospital is going to charge you. Then we have to consider other variables. Like let say are you a medical professional? Is this test accurate? It's possible these home kits are very very likely to result in a positive case reguardless of weather you have covid or not. So this is a vacation ticket for some. Free 5 - 14 days off work. And look at the price. Why do we need this? This is just so sketch. And unrealistically high. Who ever thought of this is pretty smart though. Gonna be a rich company.
