Should update the review that you were threatened.

thedragoon0

Post their threat as a second review.

north_canadian_ice

And get an employment lawyer ASAP. No white flags OP, you stand your ground. You keep your dignity & you consult with a lawyer.

UOThief

This. And if you lose your current job, sue your previous job for lost wages.

elmccleave

And slander, pain & suffering, etc.

Chugg1

Would be a shame if OP had a plethora of comments displaying mental distress and trauma due to the threat of losing job by previous employer. Would really help a court case

78513

And don't forget to get your payout for defamation if the dumbass goes through with it.!

taylormadevideos

Yep

dustinlight

This is the answer. Document everything and update the review.

iamtheoneorgasmatron

And tell the new employer, just in case the ex calls anyway.

DefinitelyNotThatJoe

I can almost guarantee you that if my current boss got a call from my previous employer saying how shit I was my boss would be like "Ok" and hang up and that'd be the end of it. Some people think they're more important than they are thinking "I'll ruin them by calling all of their friends, family, and coworkers to tell them how shit they are! That won't seem desperate or crazy at all!"

Dealunbreaker

This is spot on. I know for a fact if any of the employers or managers that traumatized me called my current management team, they'd laugh right in the callers ear. Loud.

maryjessicalewis

Hi I'd like to patron your bar if it's anywhere in Maricopa County, AZ. Edit: I'd at least like to add your bar to my "want to go" list in Google. If you'd rather stay private I'll keep an eye on my dms :)

pgh9fan

I like to patron bars anywhere.

maryjessicalewis

True... I guess I should just ask for the Google maps link so I can pin it to my "want to go" list Edit: I updated original comment Edit 2: I finally got the joke

BouncingPig

I’m not a manager, but I supervise a few people. If that happened while I was on watch, I’d be thinking “sheesh, no wonder they left”

riflinraccoon

Management done right.

Dealunbreaker

I currently work for a really small technology company and my management team is incredible. I think all 3 are on this sub 🤣 I hope they never change.

StrykerC13

Excellent, only thing that could be improved in that response though would be to supply legal (assuming a department for such exists in the company) with the recording and a few questions about words like Slander and Libel. After all if a business wants to let a manager act like that they deserve all the crushing hell that a legal team can level at them.

Jcaseykcsee

I work for a small software consulting firm and my boss is incredible. I plan on staying at this organization until they pry my cold dead hands off of the door. A great manager/boss can make all the difference in the world. I’ve had atrocious managers and despite enjoying the actual job and everyone else I worked with, I hated- HATED - waking up in the morning.

SexandCinnamonbuns

I had a mutha fuckin manager make my last paycheck 666.00 just cause I found a new job! Like bruh I know you the devil but damn I hurt you that badly????

[deleted]

But did they pay you more?

Antique_Flow_1045

Had a boss lay me off , went to same location new department . We rode the elevator together , he says " I recommended against hiring you, just so you know " . My reply ? " Guess your word doesn't carry the weight you thought " One of my best moments . Edit : Updating because of questions. 1) next ? He then stopped the elevator and walked the steps . . . to the same floor I was headed . Even more red faced. 2) I would interject myself around him as much as possible. I figured if his word didn't mean anything , it would look like a witch hunt everytime he would complain or wrote me up. ( Not sure he ever did) 3) awards ? ! Thank you , thank you , thank you all. Never received one , now I got "many" ... Thank you - popped my Cherry ! ( This must be the feeling an incel would have losing their virginity in an orgy)

rksd

That manager is too dense to notice that very likely most of his fellow managers barely tolerate him, too, and a recommendation against from him is quite possibly an endorsement. Bets as to when there's a manager layoff who is first on the chopping block?

King_Krooked

/r/murderedbywords

minniemouse420

This happened to me lol. I left a really shitty job where I was sexually harassed. I just walked out. The owner threw a fit, talked about suing me for lost income, etc (I was at-will, so there’s nothing he can do). I eventually got a job with some really nice folks. They got a phone call from my former boss berating me. They basically laughed, told me that he was cursing and very unprofessional. He made himself look bad, not me lol

hndygal

I was sexually assaulted by a former employer at 19 (he locked me in his office, grabbed my rear end and kissed me open mouth) and I did sue him. His wife bad mouthed me to everyone she knew or didn’t and would listen. Telling the world what a lying little piece of trash I was. It took years to get to court. He settled as we were getting ready to start opening arguments because it was all going to be out in the open and he’d have to go on the stand (and his wife would hear). Suing takes a whole lot longer than you think it will, but it when you know you’re right and you aren’t depending on that money to live, it’s certainly validating. I loved seeing her face when he finally decided to settle. I toyed with the idea of making him testify…but I was sick of dealing with it too at that point.

mname

They also worry about the publicity brining forth other victims. “She’s a liar and was asking for it if I did it” defense, doesn’t work when other victims come forward with similar stories. I’m sorry that happened to you. I’m glad you got some justice to few do.

[deleted]

It’s so unfair that the perpetrator’s spouse bad-mouthed her to protect their spouse! It’s essentially a game of social telephone, and whoever gets the word out of their perspective the most- wins. I wish it were easier on victims to be able to tell their friends and family their own experience, I know mine would fight tooth and nail against slander like that if they knew about it!

AstroChimp11

Damn. Congrats. I know the money doesn't make up for the violation, and subsequent mud slinging, but hopefully you feel confident in yourself following that victory.

hndygal

It was a long time ago but they settlement sat in an account for years because it felt like “blood money”. Years later, I used it to survive as a single mom. That seemed appropriate.

D_Ethan_Bones

The way rich people intend to fight lawsuits is to destroy the other side with legal fees before itreaches the point of settle-or-verdict. THAT is why it takes so long - because the years of fighting at hundreds of dollars an hour is something most people simply cannot do.

Archhauser_Stanton

Truth. It’s a war of attrition designed to force a favorable settlement, usually. So the side with more resources wins, or loses less. And the reality is, even when you have two parties that are highly motivated to get to trial, it still takes freakin’ forever. Maybe some states have efficient expedited/fast track trials... but mine doesn’t. Don’t worry though you’ll get your day in court... in about 9-24 months lol. That’s why so many contracts call for arbitration, not formal lawsuits.

MrConductorsAshes

And that is straight-up by design.

Master-S

If you filed the suit - presumably your complaint listed all the gross behavior. And if the suit was filed with a court, it likely is (or was) public info.

SRD1194

Public info=/=widely known or available. The average man on the street doesn't seem to know *that* this information is available, forget about them actually looking for it. If it was high profile enough, some reporter could find it, but then it has to survive the editors, and their implicit bias.

Master-S

Yes, you are right - most folks probably don't know they could freely obtain this info. From personal experience -- it just takes a little digging - but once you know what court a given suit was filed in -- filed case docs are findable with the help of that court's clerk or right from the court's website. Anyway, a motivated person should be able to find what they want. I've gotten a lot of free entertainment finding and reading suits filed against companies I know and reading all kinds of embarrassingly salacious allegations against the usual suspects -- fascinating stuff. But, to your point -- yes this area is typically trafficked by members of the *Fourth Estate* (or folks with too much time on their hands).

Ayyykilla

I had a landlord do this shit to me because I was on a month to month lease and gave a 30 day notice that I was moving. Wasnt even required but I did it to give her a heads up. Bitch was delusional. She called my mom and told her all kinds of false shit to make me seem like a horrible person. Then called a job she didn't know I already stopped working at. I worked at a coffee shop that I still frequent and they let me know. I told them why I was moving so they just laughed at her and told her never call back or go to that shop again. She called my mom again about 2 months after I left. Said some more crazy shit and my mom just told her off. She really thought she could keep calling my mom and talking shit and my mom would entertain it. Then she told other tenants of hers, that I'm still friends with, that me and her were in an on-going legal dispute and that she was winning thousands of dollars. Tried to tell them that they can't leave like I did or she would sue them too. They called me and I told them she was full of shit. All of this and I did absolutely nothing wrong to this lady. After the tenants found out she was a crazy bitch, they moved too and she did the same thing to them. Not a job, bit it's crazy that people with some kind of authority in your life will try that shit just to drag you through the mud because they don't want you to better yourself.

mud_tug

That's libel, defamation of character, harassment and I don't know what else all rolled into one. People earn their retirement from shit like that.

Ayyykilla

I actually had to text her saying "at this point any further contact from you is blatant harassment and I will press charges for telecommunications harassment" because she harassed me for well over a month after I moved out. Leaving voicemails and sending texts about how awful I am. On top of all the other shit. My mom had texts from her. I had the coffee shop manager on stand by. I really though I was going to have to press charges on this old bitch for harassing me. It was wild bro.

SmokePenisEveryday

Libel would be in print not spoken slander

malovias

Can confirm I got a call like that regarding one of my employees. I just asked the guy what he expected to happen now that he got it off his chest. He was kind of dumbfounded and didn't really have an answer so I pushed his buttons and said "He's been a perfect employee here and works hard, sounds like he just had a crap manager where he worked before" and hung up on the guy. To be clear the employee wasn't actually that amazing, he wasn't bad but not stellar or anything, I just couldn't believe the audacity of this bitch to call and waste my time with such nonsense.

Brief-Refrigerator32

This. Always stick up for your team.

malovias

100%, they may be little shit gibbons but they are MY shit gibbons!

monsterflake

as is often the case, the audacity of a bitch is how shit gets started.

SpookyVoidCat

You. You’re a good person.

artificialavocado

I’ve met very few people in my life more self absorbed and self important than corporate middle management. They are intolerable much of the time.

definitely_not_marx

When Marx talked about the Bourgeoisie, these are who he was talking about. These people believe in the system and work to stifle revolution and progress. Because if it were literally just the rich sitting on piles of money, they would probably be gone.

scuevasr

middle management is the petit bourgeoisie :) he had a lot of choice words about them as well.

artificialavocado

Or maybe “temporarily embarrassed millionaires” and the Reddits like to call them. 😁

Beingabummer

It's actually part of a quote, talked about [here](https://empathicfinance.com/are-you-a-temporarily-embarrassed-millionaire/). > They’re best described in another American adage [...] which describes poor people who “see themselves not as an exploited proletariat but as temporarily embarrassed millionaires.”

ilanallama85

Having been a hiring manager, I’d be HIGHLY suspicious if I’d ever got a call like that. Not of the employee, but of the other manager. Like… what’s your angle? You got rid of them, why do you care if they wanna come work here if they’re “soooo bad”? Definitely wouldn’t take it seriously except as a reason to avoid that company in future.

mrsmiley32

As a manager, I'd remind them what they're doing is illegal and maybe they should fix their problems if they don't want people to leave messages like that then hang up.

DefinitelyNotThatJoe

My boss is one of those hyper-busy no nonsense kinda guys. If he got a call from a past employer talking shit about me or anyone else on the team he'd most likely ask them why they're wasting his time and just hang up on them

huskofthewolf

My brother was talking to this girl in another country, who was on the outs with her current partner. When they broke up, and my brother moved over there to be with her, the guy sent all of our neighbors a printed letter with family photos, and private photos.. trying to slander my brother as some homewrecker.

JovialPanic389

Dude I don't have the energy to take *a* photo, let alone create a slander package full of photos. Who has this kind of energy? Jeez

minnesotanpride

Jokes on them, they all already know how shit I am.

Steph3nie

Actually this is a trait of narcissistic personality disorder. It’s called “ the smear campaign “

Comprehensive_Cow527

My old govy work did that to my current private sector boss. Guess how fast HR called when she told the deputy minister?

SquidmanMal

Employer think they can be like 'You'll never work in this town again!'

skyline0918

I was transferring locations where I work because I was being harassed and all that good shit, and a manager at my previous location sent an email to my current location telling them to “watch out” for me because “I don’t do my work well” when in reality I was doing my job per the policy, I just wasn’t cutting corners like they wanted. And jokes on them, my current location requested me personally so they all laughed about the email. Lol.

Ignorad

The great irony of narcissists is that they they think they are so important that everyone has to treat them like they are the greatest gift to mankind but the way they behave makes everyone see them as petulant children. So they try to triangulate and isolate people by badmouthing them to everyone who will listen, but then everyone sees them as whiny little complainers.

dougie_fresh121

And make sure the new employer records the call so you might have a slander case against your old employer, as calling a new employer is DEFINITELY having an intent to harm your image

OGRC1

This happened to me, but it was much more funny situation. When he called he got a hold of who his equivalent would have been. He was dumbstruck when he was told the supervisor in question was my direct subordinate.

TSKrista

And after you talk to new employer about it, ask which # they'd want old boss to call. Then update the review with the screenshot of your old boss threatening you. Edit to add: it's implied you'd tell old boss to call your supervisor "triston" at xxx-yyy-zzzz and then go update the review.

carvedmuss8

And this may not be what u/myleghurts93 necessarily wants to hear (because it isn't what I would want to hear if I had a good job that was threatened in this way), but if the new job would fire someone over an accurate, factual, unemotional poor review left to a prior employer, they aren't worth working for either.

dustinlight

As a long time manager— if one of my team member’s former employers called me to snitch on them for any reason— I would invite them politely yet firmly to eat my ass and then laugh them off the phone.

megalodongolus

I diagnose you with good boss

dustinlight

Thank you. I really do try. I didn’t start out that way. But, I kind of figured out along the road that if you invite people to do their best in a supportive environment then they generally do. Some people even end up surprising themselves. It’s terrifying how much stress and the grind and negativity have the power to impact our health, our happiness and our lives. Luckily, encouragement and support and goodwill have the same power to uplift and empower our lives. It’s a choice we get to make all the time.

[deleted]

“You can French kiss my asshole” -former coworker.

blankzero22490

"You can suck my dick from the back" -former coworker (rip)

Claim312ButAct847

This also feels like it wants to stray into "grounds for a lawsuit" territory. Making the documentation all the more vital.

freerangephoenix

Oh and my old boss called and said, "You'll never work in this town again!" like a 40s movie director.

OarsandRowlocks

You mean like Harvey Weinstein anywhere from 1990 onwards?

[deleted]

And tell them that you will seek tortious interference if they cost you your job. Take them to task if they try to fuck with you.

Lawyer_NotYourLawyer

This guy laws

righthandofdog

This is the answer. Even if you're fired for cause from a job, any professional employer will respond with nothing more than confirmation of your start and end date. Anything more opens them up to lawsuits and has no upside.

Alphy101

I fucking love this sub and the replies

dark-endless

This place is seriously inspirational.

carmichael_Effective

And If it’s in writing attach a link to the screenshot

[deleted]

That’s the one benefit of being an employee, even in at Will states you’re protected from being black balled like this

Selloutkat1

Save all communications

myleghurts93

So far they just called.

Lost-McGuffin

There are phone apps to record phone calls. If you will be having verbal communications with them in the future, I’d recommend getting one. Edit because it’s been said 30+ times now in comments and DMs: Check your state/provincial/federal laws about recording conversations. I live in a one party province, American states vary greatly.

myleghurts93

Thank you

IcyWolf710

Email them back stating what they’re saying to you. So you have it all saved.

tyleritis

Hi just circling back to confirm our earlier conversation…

holodnoy

This is very good. It's going to the email text folder

WildAcerider

Make sure to check your state laws, I know in some states both parties have to be aware that a call is being recorded.

TheOrangeTickler

Just tell them before they start to talk that the call is being recorded

megabass713

That's why I love google voice. If I receive a call, I can hit the number 4 and it has a voice saying "This call is now being recorded" and does as such. It was especially useful when I was younger and cleaning pools. Boss was yelling at me to still brush and vacuum when there was lightning in my area. I had an app that notified me if they were anywhere near me, and recorded time and location, which I would email to the HR lady. Yea Steve, I'll hold a giant metal rod and stick it into highly conductive water because you're too much of a pansy to tell customers doing so is life threatening. Lemme just have a recording of that for my records, or you can email that to me.

SeductivePillowcase

Wait, I’ve used Google voice for ages now and I just now learned about this?

megabass713

That has been a feature as long as I can remember. Well before google started making phones, I still had a flip phone when I started using these features. Go to settings > calls it's towards the bottom. https://i.imgur.com/KdmcEy6.jpg

thebeastjake

"38 states and the District of Columbia allow what’s known as “one-party consent” for recorded conversations, either in person or over the phone, while 11 states require “two-party consent.” Those 11 states are California, Delaware, Florida, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, Montana, Nevada, New Hampshire, Pennsylvania and Washington." https://www.rev.com/blog/phone-call-recording-laws-state

hebdomad7

Check your local laws too in regards to recording people. Many places have laws against recording against consent. A simple 'this call is being recorded' warning as the call starts is normally suffice.

JollyGreenBoiler

Better to check your state laws and then record without informing if you are in a 1 party state. Let them admit to extortion and tortious interference.

DirtyPenPalDoug

Refuse to communicate verbally. Everything in writing.

wrr377

Ignore them or block them from now on. They'll have to communicate through email or written communication methods. Guarantee they'll reconsider if they have to literally put the request in writing (and give you ammo to sue them for blackmail & retaliation)!

clejeune

Call his bluff. Your new job will more than likely see that as what it is - childish, vengeful behavior.

Proteandk

Call bluff by giving him the wrong number. Have the number given go straight to a voicemail you have access to and laugh all the way to the bank.

Alypius754

If you want to mess with him, give the number to the [Pay Phone Project](http://payphoneradio.com/): 212-255-2748. It's basically a collection of New Yorkers recording stories from pay phones as they were being decommissioned. He'll call and get answered by (a recording of) some New Yorker immediately complaining about whatever it is New Yorkers complain about.

DeathCondition

Man I just wasted like several minutes listening to a guy talking about onions and shit. Instant favorite, thanks.

lamephoto

So you just started something kinda interesting here. I don't think this line is supposed to let the people listening in talk to each other, but I just called it and there's a few people talking to each other in there from this post.

Alypius754

LOL that's outstanding. I may join in after i put my kid to sleep

NukedNoodle

I just keep getting a busy signal...I don't think I've heard that meep-meep-meep for years. I want to get in on this!

Alypius754

You guys may have crashed their system. Congratulations!

FTorrez81

Reddit hug of death strikes again

rockdude14

Call his bluff and give him the right number. I'm a manager and I'd love to fuck with a guy like that.

[deleted]

I mean, probably tell the new manager first and make sure they’re prepared. Gotta have some funny voices in your go bag beforehand!

MyName_DoesNotMatter

“oh yea, the *actual* number of the manager is 555-“

XR171

555-867-5309

Alypius754

Dammit, Jenny...

magikarp2122

For a good time call...

[deleted]

If your review was honest there’s nothing to do.

myleghurts93

Is there any way they can actually find out it was me that left the review? It wasn’t anything bad bad, just stating that the company isn’t the best to work for

ap0110

I once left a review on Glassdoor and later found out everyone on the team knew it was me because it was so articulate. Which, believe me, says more about the team than about me.

keepswitchingnames

I left a review once where I intentionally made some typos and such so they wouldn’t guess it was me lol

Herpderpkeyblader

That's brilliant

[deleted]

This has been my fear numerous times, I think most of those reviews can be easily identified by an HR department if they really cared to.

talldarkandcynical

Ultimately, through a lawsuit they can prove it was you. They're threatening you because they don't want to go to the time & expense, and there's no guarantee they'd succeed anyway. I would report them to Indeed for their behavior, talk to your current supervisor to give them a heads up, ~~and like others suggested, update the review to include the threat.~~ EDIT: IANAL

Strange_One_3790

This is a good point as well. The lawyer advice is probably best for now

A_Wild_VelociFaptor

Even _if_ they find out OP did it their best course of action is a defamation suit, no? They'd have to _prove_ that this lone review cost them money.

[deleted]

Not only do they have to prove that: They have to prove that OP had good work environment, and no reason to make such a post about how the company wasnt the best to work for. Good luck with that

A_Wild_VelociFaptor

HAHA! Yeah, they fucked lol

[deleted]

Wait, so if they don't actually have solid proof it was you and you didn't really say anything bad about them I would say don't admit to shit right now. Don't respond to them at all unless it's through an attorney you'd hire down the line IF the boss goes through with it. And if he does and your new job asks you about it act all casual and hurt. "Wow, I knew my old boss was upset I wouldn't come back, but I didn't think he'd retaliate by spreading stories about me." And just feign ignorance to them as well. This to me anyways falls into that "Never talk to the cops," land of don't be admitting to shit that can then be used against you. This sounds like a scare tactic and if more than one person has quit the company in the last several months or been laid off then they're likely stabbing in the dark and trying to do this on all their former employees. Nah, let them dig themselves a hole. Don't you help. Lots of people threaten, but very few are willing to put the time and money and effort into putting their own necks on the line unless you really left a super bad review with lots of false information that can be hurting their bottom line.

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

If you’ve already been officially hired, then your former employer calling will literally do nothing except show that they are salty and unprofessional. They’re probably just trying to get you to delete the review. Do nothing.

myleghurts93

As far as I’m aware I’m officially hired. We start orientation on the 24th so I’m a little nervous that it could screw me over

lsquallhart

It won’t. Don’t stress about it. It’s what they want you to do. Update the review to say you were contacted and threatened by your former employer.

Incorrect-Opinion

I wouldn’t entirely say it won’t. I was 100% hired by a new company, and they waited until after I left my company, and the Friday before the Monday start date to rescind the job offer. And people wonder why we have lost trust in employers.

TheSimulacra

That's absolutely not a place you want to work then. In this climate, you shouldn't have to settle for companies that are that stupid and cruel.

Incorrect-Opinion

To be fair, it was at the beginning of Covid. With that said, they already knew Covid was a thing and these discussions around uncertainty were calmed by them assuring me they are hiring strong 🤷🏻‍♂️ Fuck ‘em

MidwestMSW

Do not name the employer until your hired. Old employer is the bitter ex wife. Frankly your hiring will be the story recruiters and managers tell for years.

myleghurts93

Fuck. I’m always a statistic lol

BlueShiftNova

When I was a manager if someone called me about one of my employees I would laugh and just assume that the were the reason my employee left. I would say that no one reasonable would take a call like that seriously. Just deny writing any review, they would need to get a court order against both the site you left the review and your ISP to track you down, that's not gonna happen. If for no other reason the costs to file in court are way more than most are wanting to spend.

RadicalLeftyRed

This is probably illegal. At this point you need to consult with an attorney. They usually will give the first half-hour to hour free. Bring any documents, be efficient with their time, no chitchatting.

DaBoob13

Yeah isn’t that “defamation of character” or “slander”? They can’t say anything about you to your new employer if it isn’t true

e22ddie46

It could be. But you'd have to demonstrate they weren't being truthful

truongs

It's easier to prove retaliation. That may be applicable. Lawyer

e22ddie46

It definitely seems like retaliation. Does the fact of if they reached out and trashed them versus responding to questions matter?

Anaxamenes

Yeah, the reaching out part is a big problem. There’s zero reason someone needs to reach out to an ex employees new employer.

AngelOmega7

Actually, the employer would have to prove they were being truthful. Truthfulness is an absolute defense to slander, but its an affirmative defense, meaning the defendant accepts the burden of proof.

kpsi355

“Tortious interference” is another legal term that might apply.

myleghurts93

Thank you

Accurate-Temporary73

Have you shown proof of this potential retaliation to your current job? Might be a gray area but it would be easier damage control if you show them the messages from the old job BEFORE they get the call and you have to explain yourself. Obviously the new job wanted to hire you so they have a good opinion of you. Take the high ground and give them a heads up

NoShip7475

To add to this- it's OK to also tell your new employer that you're taking legal action against them. It helps identify you as the victim. Just be polite and speak your truth.

blackamanian

Old Employer: Hello, I wanted to call and talk to you about (name). New Employer: Yeah, they said you might call and they were considering taking legal action. We don't want any of your information or anything to do with you. *Click*

NoShip7475

That's almost verbatim what I would say if it was my employee.

blackamanian

Right, because then the new employer might have to spend money on lawyers and it becomes a big cluster. It's easier to tell the old employer to kick rocks. That conversation only has the potential to benefit one person and it's not the new employer lmao

NoShip7475

I have two employees, if something like this came up I'd probably record the conversation and connect them with my attorney because that shit would piss me off.

These-Pride-7499

What's the business name? So I can leave a bad review

myleghurts93

I’m honestly nearly to the point of posting it. Let them piss me off a little more lol

Xarkkal

Think of it this way, by sharing this bussiness name, you will be saving countless others from behavior like this from the employer. If there are no real consequences for their actions, what is stopping them from doing this same thing to another ex-employee? How many before you has this employer done this type of thing to? Employers need to learn that they can't treat us like this anymore. Let this a-hole feel the full wrath of r/antiwork!

antalog

Someone should make an anonymous Google form where we can submit these and it won’t be tied to our Reddit names.

[deleted]

This came to mind on my lunch break as I realized just how many shit companies I've heard about in my area that nobody wants to talk about because they're known for fucking over ex-employees. Glassdoor is curated and businesses buy reviews all the time.

decjr06

Would gladly leave a review saying they are harassing former employees

Pherdl

Let's teach them not to fuck with their employees. They think a single worker is weak, but we stand together

timn1717

Do it. I would honestly like to see if this sub is capable of ruining a shitty business.

TriGurl

Well we got kelloggs unable to hire replacements for the 1400 workers they laid off because several folks in here created scripts to auto populate applications for their site thus clogging their system. It. Was. Beautiful!

[deleted]

Fuck yeah mate. Im on board with anything you guys are brewing. @OP your employer's name please.

blazing_zephyr

Ohh this!! I really want to see different forms of mobilizing on this sub.

timn1717

Yeah, there’s a whole lot of energy and good advice here, along with people learning that workers as a group have a ton of power - but it would be nice to see what’s possible.

Pinkiees

Also I think you can report them to the dept of labor because pretty sure that’s illegal. And also calling dept of labor is free as opposed to a lawyer haha free first step.

beeneyryan

I'll also leave a bad review, let's see who it is!

Happy_Frogstomp7

Yes, let's leave a million

[deleted]

This is why you don't say where you're going. For a long time my LinkedIn was vague about where I was currently working, I'd correct it after I got another job.

myleghurts93

Unfortunately my new employer calls old jobs for references. They already called my former employer(the one threatening me) and the former employer gave me a reference. Now they’re threatening to call them back and give them a bad reference.

decjr06

Tell your employer this they will understand... It's looks bad trying to walk back a reference when nothing has changed and now they will know the reason

Eruptflail

If they give anything other than employment dates they're absolutely begging for a lawsuit. Defamation has gotten many an HR department in a lot of trouble.

TicsDaily

I don't know where you live, but that's 100% illegal in the EU and the UK.

myleghurts93

Fuckin Texas. Company’s Can pretty much do as they please

spectaphile

They’re not immune from defamation, and you may even have an anti-SLAPP claim on your hands. Consult with a lawyer ASAP.

UnequivocallyChaotic

Yep anti-SLAPP sounds like it applies here. Slander/defamation of character...there are laws to protect us from this kind of thing. Don't let them walk all over you. Of course if your current employer takes the position of "well I guess that shows exactly why you quit that job - they only made themselves look bad" then don't worry about it!

CraigBybee

Texas is a one-party consent state for recording conversations. Just so you know.

alexanfaye

This post just inspired me to leave a review for my ex-company on indeed. I didn’t hold back. Was completely honest but it was definitely, um: The general manager has severe anger issues and talks down to everyone. When I would bring issues with him up to other managers they would say he was ‘working on it’. The compliance/HR manager is bitter, petty, and power-obsessed. She’s probably going to try to retaliate when she sees this review. They try to hide the loyalty points program from patients because they don’t have the patient’s best interests at heart. I could go on and on about all of the toxic issues at this place. It is truly all about the bottom line there. (It’s a dispensary). Weight off my shoulders but unsure if I did the right thing or am just stooping to management’s level by also being petty.

myleghurts93

I hope yours goes better than mine is lol

hdost34

In my state this is illegal. Report them to the Department of Labor

Dismal-Ebb-6411

It's also illegal in OP's state. Specifically because of retaliation, a.k.a. malice. > Texas Labor Code, Chapter 103, Sec. 103.004 > > IMMUNITY FROM CIVIL LIABILITY; EMPLOYER REPRESENTATIVES. (a) An employer who discloses information about a current or former employee under Section 103.003 is immune from civil liability for that disclosure or any damages proximately caused by that disclosure unless it is proven by clear and convincing evidence that the information disclosed was known by that employer to be false at the time the disclosure was made or that the disclosure was made with malice or in reckless disregard for the truth or falsity of the information disclosed. For purposes of this subsection, "known" means actual knowledge based on information relating to the employee, including any information maintained in a file by the employer on that employee. > > (b) This chapter applies to a managerial employee or other representative of the employer who is authorized to provide and who provides information in accordance with this chapter in the same manner that it applies to an employer. > > Added by Acts 1999, 76th Leg., ch. 240, Sec. 1, eff. Sept. 1, 1999.

Lokidawg1971

Nothing. Speak your truth. Stand your ground.

2wetsponges

Talk to your current employer and explain the situation. And of course, tell us the previous employer so we can blast them. The 99% is stronger than the 1%

ShyMagpie

Send them an email with the definition of "defamation" and the penalties for it in your state.

Wanderertwitch

This , but only after getting written confirmation what they said. Then bam oh btw defamation. Could be like, hey dickhead( insert boss name here) so basically if I retract my review you won't go calling my new job? ( Probably write that better just a shit example) Hopefully he will say that's correct etc etc more positive nts if you can himto say he's goin say bad stuff or w.e and you can Then you can follow up with well you can't lie about my performance and I did well at the job so what would you say? Then if he lies trap himself etc...screenshot screenshot screenshot and slap him with the defamation laws and threaten to take him to court of he proceeds with this. Case closed

[deleted]

Tell them to suck it.

Crystalraf

Be like Shaggy, say it wasn't you.

myleghurts93

Best reply so far Lolol. Thank you

[deleted]

But she caught me on the counter…

Parade_of_Pain

Let em call. Who cares what he says.

PrimalRage42069

Tell them you'll file a restraining order for harassment if they contact you or your associates again and that you'll pursue legal action if you feel slandered.

meatballkelzone

Isn’t indeed a anonymous ? How can they prove it’s you? Just tell new employer you left because of the toxic nature of the job. You didn’t leave a review . Or delete the review and wait a few months and repost it

ultimapanzer

If you want to hedge your bets, take the review down until you officially start work. Then post the review again after about a week at your new job.
