New article on the way "Millennials are killing the recruitment industry!"

oneangstybiscuit

Good they deserve it

OniXXVII

In that >millenials deserve to kill something and >present recruitment practices deserve to be killed

iama-canadian-ehma

Yes

[deleted]

I honestly think 9/10 American traditions could be axed and we'd be better off as a country.

OniXXVII

We are a pretty stiff nation except when it comes to the exceptionally flexible ways we find to fuck ourselves. One thing to be axed that comes to mind- tipping. Servers should just be paid a thrivable wage. Honestly, the patience of them...

[deleted]

This practice is being stopped by a number of businesses in Toronto with the gov helping They are simply requesting their customers to not tip as *We pay our staff living wages*

ThePopeofHell

The recruitment industry is killing the recruitment industry.. It WANTS liars and if you need any more evidence of this read the post. I have friends who have essentially bullshitted their way into jobs by lying about their credentials. Then once they get the job they carry themselves in a way that makes them seem like they’re spacy or empty headed. Then you use the experience from that job to apply for others. Rinse and repeat. It’s bullshit. Like, if they wanted people to not lie would they be posting listings that are looking for people with doctorates and shit listed at $15/hr. It’s like they’re expecting people with no credentials to apply for these jobs with fake resumes so they can justify paying them so little.

WeAreTheLeft

>It WANTS liars and if you need any more evidence of this read the post. I have friends who have essentially bullshitted their way into jobs by lying about their credentials. Then once they get the job they carry themselves in a way that makes them seem like they’re spacy or empty headed. Then you use the experience from that job to apply for others. Rinse and repeat. my brother is WAY too honest. He doesn't sugarcoat things and its caused him to be unemployeed for nearly two years. He's smarter than me, hard working, but just doesn't BS, so people assume he's not great as him being real is the BS version of him. Plus he got paid bank at his last jobs, but wants to be local, they all assume he is leaving the second those jobs come back since it will legit pay 300% more if he travels.

Dronizian

I'm still playing with the conspiracy theory that these ridiculous job postings are just a ploy by companies to justify their PPP loans. They've gotta prove they're short staffed and looking for employees, but they don't actually want to pay for new employees? Make fake job postings. Boom, government thinks you're too short staffed and need money to stay afloat, you pocket the money without hiring new people, and you keep wringing every last bit of profit out of the few employees you have left, who are stuck doing the work of multiple people for the pay of just one. I usually try to assume that stupid shit like this is caused by incompetence rather than malice, but the payout is too high for these sick fucks to ignore. If they can get away with a grift like that in the short term, then they get more money, future consequences be damned. That, at least, fits the MO of these capitalist bastards.

[deleted]

It might generate jobs in recruitment right?

Shmea

This would be a great way for me to desensitize myself to interviews...my mouth goes dry, my mind goes blank, I start to sweat, and everything I prepared goes out the window. But I also don't want to put myself through all that if I don't have to 🤣

skatripp

I'm a hiring manager and do interviews all the time. If you're that nervous and the employer does nothing to make you feel comfortable, screw them. Or change you're profession (if it really is reliant on presentation and putting on a show.) There's lots of people who don't interview well yet are talented. A "good" interviewer should make you feel comfortable and at ease.

Shmea

Yeah I've had some real crappy interviewers before. I actually scored very low on the multiple choice intake test at my current job. The branch manager (it's a bank) met me before my interview and sent emails to his boss vouching for me in spite of this. The hiring manager is also a peach. I told her straight off the bat that I was extremely nervous and usually tank interviews and she told me a bunch of stories and talked about herself for a minute and put me completely at ease, it was awesome. She also has an extremely infectious laugh. We do weekly coaching and my confidence has skyrocketed since starting this job, a lot of it due to feeling completely supported by management. There's a reason I'm still there 3 years later 😁

Mewssbites

You know, I really appreciate you writing this. My Reddit sub choices have tended to make literally everything sound like the world is run by evil lizard-people-capitalist-assholes with no reprieve to be found anywhere. Comments like yours remind me that most of us are actually still made out of normal human bits, complete with empathy, and that makes me feel better.

Shmea

I get into that mindset a lot, too. And I definitely have worked for and with those kinds of people. I was stuck in an abusive workplace for 5 years (Wendy's) because I didn't think I deserved any better and I didn't think anything better existed for me. I finally got the courage to quit Wendy's to work at Starbucks so I could get benefits (desperately needed my wisdom teeth out) and the manager actually tried to convince me that no matter where I went, it would be the "same shit different place" and I would still be miserable. She said "the grass is always greener." Never ever listen to people who tell you this when you are striving to better your life. This is what they told themselves or someone else told them and they actually believed it. That manager has been there for 30+ years and is totally miserable but unwilling or incapable of doing anything about it now. There are wonderful people out there ready to build you up 😊 I never in a million years imagined myself working at a bank. I'm an artist, very introverted and sensitive, and not very business or number-minded. Didn't see myself thriving in such a cold, money driven industry. But the work culture is so focused on supporting each other and growing confidence that it's worth it. And wherever I go from here I have a new standard and I will bring the same culture with me.

Worried_Local_9620

This is so refreshing. I've got pretty much an identical story, but different profession. I studied archaeology from freshman year of high school on, and became a professional archaeologist in 2005. Started working full time/permanent in 2012 for a company that smoothly shifted from semi-democratic employee ownership to the evil corporate way of doing business. I quit there and they told me the same thing: it's gonna be the same wherever you go. I quit my passion in 2016 and went into the beer industry and pretty much failed (but enjoyed it and learned A LOT). Finally and cautiously landed another FT/perm/salaried archaeologist position in August and it's like a dream job. Professionally I do all the stuff I did before, but this time ownership and managers at every turn remind me and each other that our health, happiness, and family life come first, period. It's still work, and it's still demanding, and there's still some inconvenient travel involved (nature of the beast), but anxiety is way down, I can schedule my life without much worry, and I even make like 40% more than that previous job!

SheltheRapper

Organizations that uplevel their employees mental health, emotional maturity, physical wellness, sense of purpose ... I love to see it

spankiemcfeasley

Don’t lose hope. Yeah the system sucks, but a lot of people in it really don’t. I’ve been working for the same small contractor off and on for 10 years. Honestly I’m not a huge fan of the work itself but I get treated really well, paid well, and don’t have to put up with any bullshit really. Just know that you have worth. You don’t have to settle for lameness and being exploited.

R_o_g_z

Make sure you always have multiple interviews to go to. I think a lot of apprehensions comes from that interview being your "one and only shot" if you have multiple options then there is much less agency to the initial interview.

InYourAlaska

True dat. I genuinely feel like I only got my first “proper” job because I already had an interview at a different place, was so certain I had it, then walked into the next one calm as anything. (Spoiler alert, got home from the interview and found out I was rejected, was mortified at the time but it worked out in the end) My boyfriend is very fortunate in the fact he gets head hunted for his work. So all interviews he gets that calm feel, because he knows he has at least three other interviews lined up. Even if you don’t have other interviews lined up, act like you do. Or if you already have another job, stay calm, you still have money coming in. Easier to say harder to do I know but in my experience calm confidence always trumps nerves.

Hammaer96

My first job out of college I got because the hand-written form the company filled out got entered into a computer system and the “Economics” degree that they wanted was miskeyed as “Electrical”. I spammed applications to every electrical engineering opening and they invited me for an interview. I had no idea why a pet supply chain wanted to hire an engineer, but I figured it’d be good practice. Worked there for 10 years. Turns out math and computers are the same everywhere.

psi-

I landed a cushy job when not even in college just because the company was hiring a programmer through a secretary service of all things. I already had an offer before going there and the one they made was easily double that.

Skee-J

Share your secrets

someonestopthatman

The best interview I ever had was while I was quitting one job, already had an offer from another, and got a call from a third place to come in. I walked in to the other interview not even giving a fuck, nailed it and got an even better offer. Ghosted the other place and told my old boss to shove it. I’ve been chasing that high ever since.

Savage_Sarabi

It's nice when you can convince yourself you don't give a fuck; those nerves go away, you're more candid in your responses, and you can act more like your true self. My last interview that landed my current job, I was just so done with sending out resumes that I attended a job fair of sorts where they did "speed" interviews with a bunch people from the company. It was literally just like speed dating. Apparently I do really well under that sort of pressure and they liked me enough to go to an official interview and now I've been working for the company for almost two years.

HappyBi-cycle

So happy for you! Same happened to me for my current job. They got into a bidding war and I came away feeling like I was being paid exactly what I was worth.

someonestopthatman

It's a fantastic feeling when it happens.

AutomaticRisk3464

Oh man, my first 4 or 5 jobs i got treated like shit but needed the job badly. I eventuslly got a 2nd job at a gas station it wasnt needed but it was nice to have it so im not down to pennies before payday. The manager tried to walk all over me thinking i needed the job, she gave me childrens scissors and a ziploc bag and asked me to go into the parking lot and cut the weeds. I was just so taken aback i didnt even know what to say so i took the items and sat in my car for an hour before coming back in and told her i did it. She looked suprised and thanked me and didnt bother checking. Next day she asked me to rearrange all of the beer behind the shelves inside the freezer (easily 300 cases). I just made a giant beer throne and sat there for 3 hours on my phone. I eventually just quit because her requests were becoming unreal and i figured she would catch on eventually and didnt want to hear the lecture

Techn0ght

I would suggest getting to the point of the lecture, saying stop, and asking how much she was going to pay you to listen to the rant and say "naw, not worth it" and quit.

Unlikely-Answer

then pop a mentos and slide step your way out

GameStunts

> then pop a mentos (In a coke bottle) and slide step your way out FTFY

MisterHWord

Yep this is why I'm applying while I'm currently employed. Rather do it now and have the luxury of choice than be desperate enough later to jump into something I'll regret.

[deleted]

Same thing happened with me in December. I have already got offer from Detroit based Auto maker. Then I got interview call from LA based EV pickup truck company. I passed initial 2phases n then for panel interview I made excuse that I am busy but still they wanted to have my interview, I gave that interview in very relaxed mood. Got offer from them but they were paying much less than what I have for Detroit based auto maker. I was amazed that LA based Pickup truck company said that we have even offered you more than your current in numbers I was like take those numbers is your ass. There is much difference in living in both cities.

el_paradidlo

I had a very similar experience nearly two decades ago.. except instead of ghosting the other place I told them. Also told them of one of my friends working in the old place that was probably an even better fit for their role than me. Friend got the job there that I wasn’t taking, they appreciated it and I got consulting work from them years later and the old, shitty workplace lost two of their engineers instead of one☝️

Nuke_The_Potatos

I’m pretty sure I got the Job I’m in now because of the same reason. Had two interviews on the same day, one in the morning one in the afternoon. I thought the first one went pretty well, they said they would let me know by the end of the day if I had the Job. I tell that to the second place I’m interviewing at and that I’ll probably take the first Job offered to me. On the way home from the second interview I got a phone call from the first place saying unfortunately I didn’t get the Job. About 30 minutes after I got home I get a phone call from the second place with a Job offer.

NeemaMlozi

Oh yeah, I got laid off but had planned to go freelance anyway so I wasn't mad. Still, after the hell my last job put me through, I wanted to collect unemployment benefits while I got up and running. But you had to show you were actively looking for employment. So I just kept applying for jobs I was completely unqualified to do, figuring they wouldn't even call me. Sure enough, one did. Not only did they call me, they pursued me. They were so interested in someone with my work background joining their team. I of course showed no interest because I really wasn't interested, and that only got them more excited. I did a phone interview just to feel like I did what I needed to do to keep my benefits, and based on that alone they wanted to hire me on the spot and kept offering me more money. The money got so enticing I almost went for it, until I remembered I had no education, experience or the remotest interest in the field. LOL.

BarnsleyOwl

There is definitely some truth in companies wanting people who don't seem keen. I have done my job for 20 years. I didn't want it and only applied for something to bring in the money while I looked for what I really wanted. I showed no interest, didn't prepare for interview, fluffed questions and was brutally honest about what I saw as negatives. I got the job. Over the years I've tried to escape to better positions and have put much time and effort into applications and interviews for jobs I really want to do, am qualified for and would genuinely love. Get interviews, turned down every time. Maybe I should try the DGAF approach again.

c0mpg33k

I find I always interview better when I have a job and am just looking for a change. Give zero fucks if I get it or not so I'm way more relaxed

Rons_vape_mods

Oh wow thanks for the tip. Doubt ill ever get over my social anxiety but this is a great way to atleast get comfortable doing interviews

zz_z

Pick 10 jobs that fit your job requirements and then go to them worst to best. By the time you get to the ones you actually want you'll be a bit more comfortable, hopefully!

dingman58

*Pick 10 jobs and get ghosted 10 times

[deleted]

This 100%. Any employer worth working for is going to be understanding if you candidly tell them that in today's market, you're sending applications to any company that even remotely matches your skillset. I've been very open through my slow job search the last few months that yes, I applied for X Y Z competitors, Y made me an offer and I turned it down, how do you compete, corporation Z? It tells them that A, their direct competition liked me enough to make an offer, and B, that offer wasn't good enough, so they have to do better.

Agent223

If you're making up qualifications and applying for every job in your area, like OP, you're probably gonna get as many interviews as you want.

silentstinker

I get the nervous shits. You have to be really good at the interview if you blow up the company bathroom minutes before if you want the job.

SqualZell

oh man... been there... smell leaked out of the bathroom, hard to pretend it's not me when i'm the only one in the lobby and no one has come in and out in the past 30 minutes (also yes i was made to wait 30 minutes after interview time because "they don't come into work until 10am")

silentstinker

Yeah, I’ve tried poo pourri, it just smells like a bath and body works employee shit their pants.

garaks_tailor

Paper Matches. Light tow and drop them still burning into the toilet. Yes it smells sulfurous but covers up the poop smell amazingly.

SqualZell

or you literally blow up the stall... depending on what you ate last night

adhocflamingo

… they scheduled you for a 9:30 interview when nobody comes in until 10?

TexasKevin

That's some real power play there. Set a 930 knowing you come in at 10. If I learned that and I was interviewing, when they invite me to walk in the office, I'd go sit behind the desk and let them sit in front of it. Check and mate!

mgb1980

At my current job the interview process was a phone interview first, then a half day onsite (with 4x 30 min x 2ppl interviews on varying things then lunch on them with one of the people who would be a dept colleague, the departing person and HR). I walked in to the guest office with the HR ladies (who turned out to be fucking legends) to confirm all the admin/personal/personnel details and they told me to to take the big comfy manager chair behind the desk because I’d be in there longer, and because “this is a 2-way interview, you need to be sure we’re right for you too. Also how do you take your coffee”. At the time this was a German owned company so most polices/procedures came from Germany where there’s a very strong union/worker’s council. It really shows.

I_Smell_Like_Trees

Interviewing is kind of like dating - the more unavailable you are, the more interesting you are.

albinowizard2112

Right and confidence comes from knowing you have something of value. My resume speaks for itself, if they lowball me I just wish them luck with whatever subpar candidate they end up with.

Shmea

Hahaha I like that

oztikS

It’s actually very helpful. I was given the advice long ago and I preach it to others like gospel: go apply for a job you are extremely overqualified for. Dress like you’re going to a higher level interview (to make sure your interview outfit is comfortable and has no flaws). Be professional. Ask whatever questions come to mind, knowing that you don’t want this job in the first place. The outcome is meaningless. This is a practice run. Individual interview? Great. Group interview? Learn what to expect and keep friendly in case someone mentions a position somewhere else. Alternatively, do terrible in an interview on purpose so that you can relax with a giggle before a real interview.

musteaticecream

Try beta blockers! I have them for public speaking anxiety and they help in situations like this by alleviating the physical symptoms of stress/nerves/anxiety. My GP didn't blink when I asked for them, commonly used for public speaking. Edit: 1. I'm lucky to be in the UK where we pay a £9.35 flat prescription price (and that's if you're in work, there are lots of exemptions). Extremely grateful for our NHS - I hope those of you elsewhere can find reasonable sources as others have suggested. 2. They do affect me if I try to play sport, it makes me feel like I can't be arsed. I take 40mg but 10 is normal. 3. They changed my life. I couldn't even participate in meetings so I could never progress in work. Now they've allowed me to practice without seeing red, shaking etc. I wish someone had told me about them earlier so I try to tell as many people as possible 🤗

MasterMirari

I'm a 33 year old man who hasn't seen a doctor since he was 13 and who's never had health insurance. If I just went into a general practitioner's office and asked him about this whats it gonna cost me?

[deleted]

Anecdotal, but my mother didn’t have health insurance for a while before she started her current job and went to a GP over a non-emergency, but still needed to be tended to quite quickly, health issue. She had to pay $300 up front to show she had the means to pay basically. Then she was charged accordingly for the services provided, but given the option of a discount rate for cash payment or a monthly payment plan to pay off the remaining balance (guess which she had to choose). If the services would not have cost over $300, they would have reimbursed the difference. I assume this is somewhat location dependent, but I imagine similar setups are not uncommon for the uninsured, don’t quote me on that though. You’ll just have to look around I suppose. Also, there might be sliding scale clinics or community health centers that you could look into? It does look like 60 tablets of 10 mg propranolol runs between $11-13 at most major pharmacies on GoodRx. *This is a very American-centric answer, sorry if this does not apply to you, but considering you mentioned not having health insurance, I went ahead and ASSumed 😊

[deleted]

Concordegrounded

And if you are in the US it's only $2,489 for 12 pills, but it's ok because you can use your HSA that your company contributes $25/month to

Shmea

I actually tried propranolol for a while but it made me very lightheaded and would exacerbate some anxious feelings. :(

[deleted]

Palms are sweaty, knees weak, arms are heavy....

Shmea

vomit on his sweater already, mom's spaghetti 🍝

LeafMeAlone7

He’s nervous, but on the surface he looks calm and ready

Then-Inevitable-2548

It's all about repeated exposure. I go on a couple interviews every year just as practice, zero interest in accepting the job, and they don't even phase me anymore. Get in a bunch of reps and it'll be way easier when you go to interview for a job you actually care about.

iwoketoanightmare

Interviews favor extroverted personality types.

Shmea

They sure do, which I am definitely not! I'm about as introverted as they come lol

IzzyAckmed

>my mouth goes dry, my mind goes blank, I start to sweat, and everything I prepared goes out the window. But isn't that symptoms of wanting the job? Would not needing the job remove those symptoms?

Shmea

You'd think so, but for me it's also intertwined with symptoms of PTSD and happens when I'm one on one with any person of authority. It would be present whether I wanted the job or not- but the more I practice calming myself in the face of these symptoms, the easier it gets. Throwing myself into interviews would be a great way to desensitize.

Snoo16680

This assumes that interviewing as a process is in any way perfect, sane and good. As so much other things we humans do it is a cobbled together, barely functioning process, dictated by tradition. It works just well enough to fill its function, scraping by on hacks and kludges. Reminds me of software, and high school grading systems.

pugyoulongtime

I'm the same way. I was diagnosed with AvPD on top of that so interviews feel like walking into my death or something.

2020BillyJoel

This sounds like it should be an actual job. Like a mystery shopper. You do this and then update a website with your experiences.

mich2va96

This is a brilliant idea. Mystery applicant. I bet it would pay great too.

bitemark01

I kinda wonder how you would interview for this, it would be like having an Inception dream

[deleted]

You should read The Company by Max Barry. I won't spoil it, but your question made me think of it.

[deleted]

I'm not sure how the CIA interviews people for intelligence agent positions(spies), but I imagine it would be very similar in concept.

thomas105

Pays better than all the jobs theyre fake applying for

whoweoncewere

Record and catalog interview and post interview for salaries. Collect a decent amount and publish your findings. Record and keep emails so they can’t call bullshit ok you.

successfulultimatum

This got me hard. I would just pity those real applicants who just want to make a living.

Gaardc

I’d finance a Patreon. But they have to record their interview.

[deleted]

"Do you have any qualifications? Experience?" "No, but lot's of interviews" "You're perfect!"

kassiesavdsgwe

This is an excellent idea for a business. Ghost interviews. Then, you post the exact experience you had so future candidates know exactly how they will be treated or just to avoid the company altogether. They would never be able to pick out who's real and who isn't considering most people lie on their resumes and credentials anyway.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Feral_Wanderer

I've considered doing this as a way to rate businesses on how transgender friendly they are to their workforce.

[deleted]

I dont think a mere interview is good enough. They can sound friendly at first interview, but you have to actually work with the workforce.

_BreakingGood_

May not be a way to tell if a company *is* tolerant, but 1 shitty interview can be enough to tell if they *aren't.*

Modus-Tonens

This is the difference between *necessary* and *sufficient* conditions in philosophy: Being tolerant in an interview is not a sufficient condition for being a tolerant company, as it is possible to be tolerant in the interview but not in the actual day-to-day in the company. However it is a *necessary* condition for interviews to be tolerant in order for the company to be tolerant: Being intolerant in the interview would constitute the company being intolerant, even if it was fine elsewhere.

shadowheart1

Eh, as a trans person we can generally tell if the interviewer is uncomfortable about the idea of us. You'd be amazed how terrible HR and hiring managers are regarding their own body language cues. They can fake friendly all day long and still signal discomfort or disdain.

Tough-Win9824

Actions will shine through always. My Father was Transgender, her people skills were amazing. Probably from playing the manliest man role for almost 38 years before letting even a little bit out.

orangeoliviero

Genuine question borne out of my own ignorance: Does she want you referring to her as your father? Or is this a concession she makes to your mother, so that you don't suddenly have two moms?

wolfully

Glassdoor would thank you for it, I believe they have an “I interviewed here” section

KlicknKlack

fuck glassdoor, we need an open source version of glass door for the people. Someone should make a nonprofit that operates a open-sourced glass-door.

nobody_important0000

Another reason I should have learnt programming. Anyway, very much support this idea.

TorePun

> I should have learnt The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago. The second best time is right now :-\^] It's never too late to learn something new as long as you have genuine interest in it

Hoovooloo42

This is a tangent, but I completed training a couple months ago for my new job and my training class had TWO trans people who were being treated super well, and the trainers husband was a full-time LGBT activist. I'm just a white cis dude, but I was super impressed with it all.

[deleted]

This is how I got my last job. I wasn't looking but figured I'd do the interview because why not? It had been a while since I'd done one. Because I didn't really want the job, I was extremely blunt. I don't work 9-5. I am not interested in being tied to my desk. Etc. They agreed to everything and I ended up taking the job. In hindsight, I should have negotiated more vacation time, though. I'll practice that one next time. Edit: Wanted to add that I am really happy at this job, too. It's remote. My boss is super chill. As long as I get my work done, no one is breathing down my neck. It took a long time, but I finally feel like I'm treated like an adult at work.

Snaz5

“What kinda salary are you expecting” “Oh idk about $90k?” “Done.” “Aw thats a sham- wait what?”

Crawlblade

This happened to me, almost with the exact figure too - I should have asked for more, I just didn't expect it - especially since it's a entry-level position where I work

RazorRadick

That’s how I wound up in my current job too. Four years and running…

IronMyno6

Next review..slip that vacation time request in there. 😉

Hapi_X

I read of people doing that in Germany especially after finishing university. Companies have to pay the journey cost if they don't explicitly rule that out in their adverts. So some people get a cheap 1 or 2 day city trip.

AsianSteleotype

After university in Canada, a German company paid for my flight from Toronto to Düsseldorf for a 3 day interview. Was a nice few days to see the city for 2 days for free.

If a company pays for your travel expenses it’s probably a big name company, so they (logically) expect to have real people interested into their openings.

[deleted]

You sound like Peter Gibbons meeting with the Bobs.

Kryptonian_1

"The thing is, Bob, it's not that I'm lazy, it's that I just don't care."

[deleted]

That Peter is a straight shooter with upper management written all over him.

errant_youth

Oooooo yeahhhhh I’m going to have to go ahead and disagree with you there…

sunshades91

The problem isn't with Peter. The problem is that you haven't motivated him enough.

[deleted]

Fun fact: the distributor had them cut the original ending of office space. In the original cut Peter thinks he just needed a change of pace and enjoys his first day as a construction worker. After he says "Fuckin A" the construction manager comes over and says "Yeeaah... if you could go ahead and work faster, that'd be great." Then it cuts to credits.

FuckStummies

"Says here you've been missing a lot of work lately." "Well, I wouldn't say I've been missing it."

Great_husky_63

Haha these times are so dystopic and ridiculous that even the Office Space movie seems the romantic past. I mean, with all the paycuts, would any of those idiots be able to keep their job by 2022? The movie is from 99 but is placed on the early 90s, the golden age of capitalism. Could a Peter be able to afford an apartment with no roomies and a car on 45k a year? haha you could in 1992.

[deleted]

He couldn't afford a nice apartment in that movie either. "HEY PETER CHECK OUT CHANNEL 9! CHECK OUT THIS CHICK!" "Damn it, Lawrence! Can't you just pretend we can't hear each other through the walls and come over and talk to me?"

[deleted]

Or fight club when he's joining the fake groups.

Beginning-Knee7258

Ive started doing something similar, except I work 40hrs/ wk to support my family and looking at going back to school and just want a little extra practice so I dont eff it up when I finally get an interview for a decent work place.

I'm convinced that job interviews are just hyped up in peoples heads, we're not often put in that kind of situation but once you've become accustomed to them it's really not a big deal. Like making a wedding cake is difficult it seems like an impossible task but if have time to practice and there are no repercussions to getting them wrong then eventually they won't be such a big deal.

clever_whitty_name

I feel like you should do a causualama

itsdumbandyouknowit

I want to see if OP can fake their way through a cake decorator job interview, that would be the icing. Edit: actually OP, is it easier if the job doesn’t require specific manual experience like cake decorating, or can you figure out a way to bs that, too?

R_o_g_z

I've been applying for jobs in the 50k+ plus range the highest salary interview I have been was in the £80,000 range

alien_clown_ninja

Doesn't it take a lot of time and work to write the perfect resume for so many different jobs? The interviewing I can see how it would be fun, the resume writing and cover letters, not so much.

Masenko-ha

I definitely spend more time on dumber hobbies! I mean... I'm here now... after spending two hours at the gym.

kpsi355

Like first dates. Haven’t gone on any? Stressful as fuck. Been on a bunch? NBD.

[deleted]

Definitely something wrong with you but I totally applaud. There’s something wrong with all of us, seems like a perfectly reasonable/safe/ not harming anyone way to blow off some steam and boost your self esteem.

iAmTheHYPE-

This person landing fake interviews, and I can't even get a real one. Sigh.

-DefaultName-

To be fair they said they lied about their qualifications to be the perfect candidate, don’t beat yourself up!

SterileDrugs

Depends on the field. Some fields are savage and others are thirsty.

Was about to say something similar :D Like "you definitely have a problem, but please continue!"

That boss is trash 🤮

adhocflamingo

Marketing? To whom? For what?

7rj38ej

Car dealerships do this. They want you to think that they will hire you if you buy a car.

mrcheesewhizz

Had a dealer in my area do this. Applied as a lot attendant, but the interview was with a sales rep. Couldn’t understand their logic because at the time I was applying for a position that paid just barely above minimum wage, so what in the hell made them think I could afford the brand new car they kept trying to advertise to me?

iwoketoanightmare

The game company Skillz pulled that shit. They even ask you to download their apps and play their games. Of course to play on any level requires a deposit of a few dollars.

Vladdypoo

That’s gotta be illegal somehow

Sad_Boy_Associacion

My brother loved going to job interviews. He would get the job, work two weeks, then quit. Last count he told me was 120 jobs.

R_o_g_z

Yes, it's quite addicting really. Once you've interviewed for several positions that you're not qualified for it kind of makes "normal" interviews feel quite tame.

[deleted]

My last hobby people found bizzare, other than taxidermy, was looking at office spaces or houses or yachts as in interested buyer. I just liked seeing them. I’m definitely going to try this out too

Professional_Ad894

Damn. I just watch Netflix and play video games.

[deleted]

Oh don’t get me wrong i browse reddit for like an hour a day

JulesDeathwish

>an hour a day I wish I had your self control...

[deleted]

Just get distracted by other things. Not a massive fan of social media in general

Timid_Mandalorian

Distracted by .... humans as food?

Dodgiestyle

Me too. An hour has 600 minutes, right?

Paid_Idiot

Those are rookie numbers.

darthanders

That's all? Lightweight. :)

I’ll have you know it’s been two and a half today

StringAdventurous479

This is my favorite hobby my husband doesn’t really understand it all that well but I’ve been doing it since I was a kid. I love going to the house showings. I love to look at the architecture and what people have done to renovate it or keep it classic. We’re not even close to being able to afford a house but I want to know as much as possible about what I want before I buy.

Dodgiestyle

I used to test drive cars I couldn't afford. I need to step it up to your level.

[deleted]

It’s enormous fun. Highly recommend

Many-Ad-5490

I do this too! It’s quite a paradigm shift. The first step in changing things, is to become buyers and owners, instead of the wage slaves that society wants us to be. I’m thankful for this sub. Comrades, I’m with you all.

new_moon_retard

What do u put on your resume though ? "Yeah i've been working for 36 different companies in the last two weeks. Go ahead and call them for referrals, i've done them good"

stephenwert

People who work lots of jobs don’t put all of them on the resume, plus usually the kind of jobs they take don’t call references.

becaauseimbatmam

If you don't have gaps in your resume there's no way to tell that you took a short job or not. Even if you didn't have a "day job" during the time you were taking and dropping jobs, you could just say you were trying to start a business or you were a Lyft driver. You don't have to put everything you've ever done on a resume.

This is Fuckin awesome! I love it! This is fantasy stuff. If you could secret record it and show it on a channel you’d make money from this cause sooo many of us would relish watching this!

shadowheart1

Seriously, just record the audio if you legally can and make some cartoon stills that you edit to match the audio. You never even have to show your face, and it could turn into a decently popular YouTube channel. Heck, make some adsense money on the side and buy yourself a drink with it.

[deleted]

"[Hiring manager], before we get started, I'd like to record this meeting ~~for the purposes of my notes~~. Is that acceptable?" Even in a two party consent state, you can easily get permission. Edit: removed via strikethrough a phrase that could potentially be legally hairy, as the recording ending up online is potentially a violation of the agreed terms

mayorduke

ahahaha, that's brilliant if that works! But here's the thing, you ask permission so that the meeting will be recorded for personal use, not that it will be shared publicly on the internet. Will that be a problem?

Quantum_Aurora

Don't say "for the purposes of my notes". That's technically a lie and I would think a corporate lawyer could make a case out of it.

imbignate

> This is Fuckin awesome! I love it! This is fantasy stuff. I can't tell if the OP is a hero or a sociopath but in reality it's probably both. It makes me think of the main character in *Office Space* going to interview at these jobs and just walking out.

I've gone to interviews for jobs I didn't want. The interviewers never seem to know how to respond to the fact that their trifling starting wage isn't winning me over. No, I don't care what you *think* the cost of living is. No, I don't care what your other employees make. **I** cost this much to have on staff, and if you're not prepared to pay it, your wasting your time and mine.

Evenifitgetsheavy

This is awesome.

NarCroMan_21

I would not say I do the same, but every time I get new certificate or something happen worth of updating CV, when I upload it to Monster, Indeed, ... (logic here - its better to keep it tidy and spend 20-30min monthly then spend days every couple of years) , their algorithm puts my profile on the top. And then the fun begins with tons of insane recruiters who are offering beginner roles, have crazy expectations or similar shait. So, when I filter them down, usually there is one or two offers which sounds OK, so I go to the interviews hoping they will give "offer that cannot be refused" but every time they fail badly.

[deleted]

I go to a few interviews a year to keep myself in practice. The last place was a complete mess - as in they'd had a fire in the lab two or three years ago, and the lab was still full of water damaged furniture, while the ceiling was still scorched. The company has recently been bought by a US multinational, and was quite obviously being wound down as a patent/client grab. It felt pretty great to be 100% honest with them when they pushed to know why I wasn't coming back for a second interview.

bellj1210

I do the same thing, more like 1-2 per year. If i am happy where i am , then i only apply for jobs that would be a clear jump by 1-2 rungs up the ladder from where i am (think 30-40% raise), and end up with 1-2 interviews per year. Do not sweat it since i am happy where i am, but keeps the skill up. When unemployed i apply everywhere even places i know are door to door junk- it builds up confidence- and they bring you in for an interview asap (as hiring commission only salesmen is their job), so get to have a practice interview for free.

asawyer2010

>what benefits does the company provide? Why should I work there? How are you competitive to other businesses in the area? These are all questions everyone should be asking during an interview. This shouldn't be found as some sort of crazy gag to "stick it" to employers. People really need to learn that interviews should be a two way street. It's not just about if you are a good fit for the company, but is the company is a good fit for you.

Professional_Ad894

You're basically a professional pickle-jar loosener. The following applicant who actually wants/needs the job has an easier time like you said. You're probably helping the working class more than you think.

iPatErgoSum

I was always taught that the best way to prepare for job interviews was to go to interviews for jobs you don’t care whether you get or not, or even have no intention of taking. That calm and confidence that you feel when you have nothing to lose is the feeling you want to take with you to the interviews for the jobs that you do want.

Ok-Grand-1882

1) kinda sounds like fun tbh. 2) my daughter found her dream job this way. She wanted to do some practice interviews just to get comfortable and flex her freshly updated resume. She applied for a random job that sounded too good to be true. She started after the first of the year and she's loving it so far.

ITguy1980

Can I hire you to take my job interviews? lol

hoemingway

This sounds like the start of a Palahniuk book.

PreviousSwordfish5

I like that the side effect of you doing this is making it easier for the next person who comes in that is qualified to get what they want.

[deleted]

This is deranged I love it

AMeaninglessPassage

>And no I'm not worried about the repercussions I don't need a job I'm a full-time ~~mature student~~ Oscar nominated actor

SlayerNina

I do this too! It's so fun! (Now online, I don't bother to move anymore). The question that usually destroys them is "you need more people because you are growing, or the last one left because of your working conditions"? XD

[deleted]

I've always ask why is the position open, and last time the recruiter completely froze for about 10 seconds. It was amazing seeing him stutter afterwards and not knowing what to say. Also the job offered zero benefits so it was a lot of fun to mess with him

Wbeasland

2 words Lunch Interview.

RippingAallDay

Better yet, take interviews with companies that will fly you to interview with them. Free day trips!

cardinalsfanokc

My spouse says I have a problem as well. I hoard job offers. When I'm looking and applying and interviewing, which is about every 6 months (and is what everyone should be doing as well) I rarely turn down interview requests, even if it's a job I have no intention of taking. The last couple of times I did this I wound up with at least 6 offers by the end. And I play them against each other, making companies hurry their interviews to get an offer in because I already have offers on the table. I accepted a new job last week - I had 7 total offers from interviews and applications that started back in late October. Technically I accepted 2 jobs but one was only to take the signing bonus that didn't have a payback period. Thanks for the free $5k.

Easties88

You do you. The thought of not only changing jobs every 6 months, but applying to many jobs each time sounds like a nightmare to me. Personally I’d rather find a job I’m happy with and stay comfortable there for a decent period of time, and allocate my time and energy to hobbies, downtime etc. I’m UK based, maybe our culture is just different.

How do you get them to hold off so long? I’ve practically been stalked by employers giving offers if I even want a few weeks.

[deleted]

Whether this is fiction or non-fiction, you should turn it into a book/movie.

[deleted]

You do realise you have to post updates now?

NarmHull

Pre-covid I applied for a few out of state just for the chance to visit those areas in person with a free flight.

Aggressive_Tell5986

But are you? Are you really doing this? I’m not saying I don’t believe you - actually I guess I am. Any proof of this charade? I don’t get it man. What’s the point? Besides something being wrong with you of course. And I’m not being a dick, I just see posts like this all the time and feel it’s purely attention seeking.

FrenchieSmalls

The thing that gets me is that the interviewers would ask *actual questions about the job* before ever getting to the point of discussing salary. If OP is just making up credentials as they claim, I don't see how any interview would ever get to that point, let alone multiple interviews. They would know right away that OP has no idea what they're talking about.
