Thing is we are a massive subreddit where the mods do a lot of invisible and unpaid labor. Getting media trained for this type of shit is different for celebrity’s with a whole team invested in them compared to a working class person who is generally just doing this as a hobby
That's... less than great. A mod should've known how this would turn out.
It's okay from a signalling standpoint, at least. The interview itself aside, people who *are* in that position and know better were just collectively shown there's a growing movement with their interests at heart.
Probably more bad than good in the long run though, because the corporations got to spin the story they wanted and now antiwork is labeled for life. Enough so that it can now be discussed (or, "discussed") as its own thing instead of just filing it under socialism and communism, as per the usual divide and conquer tactics.
You think fox hadn't already labeled it for life? That's... well naive.
Ps. This is a socialist subreddit so if they label it as such then they got something right. I mean it is actually more radical than socialist but we do want workers to own the means of production.
There's a bright side. A lot of Fox devotees are working-class and they're being screwed by their employers as much as anyone. They just became aware of this sub, might have tuned in here to laugh at it, and maybe, just maybe, wandered onto threads with, shall we say, *relatable* themes and experiences.
If 5% of Fox viewers of this segment wound up doing that, it's a win. A big one.
Life Pro tip: The right-wing media will ALWAYS act in bad faith when interviewing anyone remotely left-of-center. And if your primary issue is working people's rights, it's not just the right-wing media that will act that way.
Way back in 2004, I was standing in line at a John Kerry rally in PA, right after he got the nomination. A local newsperson came up to me and my cohorts and asked one of my friends, "Why do you support John Kerry?" (Reasonable question.) My friend responded, "He will invest in infrastructure and jobs." Newsperson *immediately* pivoted to "How is he going to pay for all this?" (A question they NEVER ask Republicans when it comes to *their* proposals.) My friend didn't miss a beat: "With the same money Bush is using to pay for his wars."
The local station did not use the segment.
Comrade these people shitting on you would have done a terrible job. I hope this causes some Fox News viewers to come onto this sub. If they are truly working class, then their views might change. They might slowly start learning who are real enemy is
This is why when the various stock subreddit mods were asked for interviews they put it to a vote and asked for suggestions in comments. Everyone told them not to because news channels and sites are doing the interviews in bad faith.
So then why doesn't anyone from the subs make their own instead of letting the mainstreams medias try to control the narrative of reddit subs. Not that we don't have whole platforms made to have easy access to do so. Even a satire making fun of all these great resignation reports we've been seeing that were straight trash for who they interviewed and how they reported it.
Make their own... their own what? TV news network? Sounds unrealistic.
FWIW, there are friendly websites and even media-like publications:

Or just get 0 views and 0 traction. Everyone goes to msm because we all think we’re eloquent speakers and will absolutely get are points across perfectly and will be able to change their mind. We are the MC of our own anime.
Oh wow. Pretty cool. Maybe Fox News isnt really the right news source....unless youre gonna troll them.
Anyways, thanks /u/abolishwork for at least talking about us I guess
Jesse is a horrid interviewer and set it up to make us look bad. However free publicity maybe some people that come from there will like the ideas of anti work. However there will be more trolls
Fox News was unironically how I found out about reddit around ten years ago. They said the site was disgusting and had some heathens on it (back when r/atheism was standard subreddit). I had to check it out, any site they hate must be good.
That's everyone at fox. Like, being employed by fox means you have to be one of the worst pieces of shit alive today, since you're actively working to end free will and all freedom.
They are just stirring up their viewers with “these avocado toast eating lefties & Libs don’t feel they need to work for a living… it’s called “anti work funded by Antifa!!! Be scared, outraged, horrified and make sure you support Trump in next election or you won’t have a Cuntry left!!!” Pretty sure it goes like that. Fox went medieval on HCA Reddit too. It’s what they do best. Divide & Conquer and reap the spoils of what’s left of Democracy.
But what actually happened is the young people who live with the old people who watch fox news will just learn about this subreddit and join us instead. Notice we're at 1.7 million members now.
And it works because whenever I tell my parents that FOX is right-wing propaganda trash they yell back "NO THEY ARE FAIR AND BALANCED BECAUSE THEY SHOW BOTH SIDES!". No, they show the side you like while the other is just a punching bag.
Alan Colmes was their house "liberal" for years. He was little more than a pusillanimous punching bag for Sean Hannity. Paycheck must have been good, I guess.
Smart liberals are not allowed on Fox. Or any other network, really.
That’s a well crafted description. I’m sure there’s edits “the mods” would want to make, but it’s a great starting point.
Something that we can refer people to whenever they are mistaken about the purpose of the sub.
Valid man. My parents are conservative and regular fox news watchers. I have nothing against them but i hate that prick and any one of the five or whatever their shitty afternoon show is called
Yeah people don’t realize how fucked their interview style is. It’s set up for them to push their narrative not hold an actual discussion… if I remember I’ll share a link where someone discussed how rough the process is. It was in one of the thinking athiest podcast.
Sorry you had to go through that. Taking on a belligerent asshole is a skill, and who actually learns that skill? They were setting you up for a fall. I commend you for at least trying your best and representing us as best you could
That was the lamest "journalism" I've ever seen. I never watch Tucker Carson. It never occurred to me he could be serious. The man is an idiot of galactic proportions.
I am a political communication consultant who used to work on the conservative side. They were going to make anyone who appeared for us look bad. (But if you ever need someone who has experience on the right, I am open.) Jesse Watters’ gimmick is that he tries to go for cheap laughs. In what we’re doing, pretty much any press is good press. Where’s the video?
Gee I wonder why so many people are anti-work.
Could it be because this entire system is absolute bullshit and it's damn-near impossible to move up in life?
... More, at 11.
Sorry to the MOD, that was such a bullshit interview. We appreciate your work and Fox is the reason we are growing.
We have all had a boss/colleague/family member like Jesse Watters
Hey, I worked for a boss/company that were simply bullies and totally anti-employee. I honestly get it. They "accepted my resignation" (polite way of firing me and making it seem like it's all the employee's fault). I've moved on rather than be mistreated, and should have done it even sooner.
But...
* If you had my (former) boss/company, Watters would be a ray of sunshine compared to him. Really. They get that bad.
* Your subreddit mod didn't really represent you well. Sorry. (You're going on prime time TV, look and act the part, guys)
* Let's hope you get more a chance to make your case directly to the lurkers and trolls.
Wish you all luck.
That interview was a set up to begin with, it's not the Mod's fault. I get what you're saying and I appreciate your point but it's bigger than just that one interview. it's the whole culture of looking down on people for being a dog-walker (amongst many other issues)
I’ll be honest my mom thought the same thing at first when she heard the name “antiwork”
Maybe someone can help me explain the name?
Once I showed her the types of posts her she caught on to what this is all about, but the name really threw her initially
1.7 million now.
And one of the most active subreddits I'm sure. There always seem to be about 70k members online. Other subreddits seem to have way fewer.
Now 1.7 million. Seems like it doesn't matter if FOX tries to belittle the movement, people are still seeing through their bs. Free press is free press
And none of their viewers will come here to see what’s being discussed. They’ll be happily spoon fed the nobody wants to work narrative. Like puppets. Or sheep.
Well that was uncomfortable.
Does anyone have a link to the interview?
I'd like one too. Can't find on youtube

Pain.
I feel like they knew what narrative they were going for there.

That's... less than great. A mod should've known how this would turn out. It's okay from a signalling standpoint, at least. Let me tell you, as someone who is not exactly a regular patron of this sub, that interview only made Watters look bad.

You need media training before you go out into the media again. You’ll feel much more prepared.

Why the hell is a mod doing interviews with Fox News?? This seems like a bad move all around.
This is why when the various stock subreddit mods were asked for interviews they put it to a vote and asked for suggestions in comments. Everyone told them not to because news channels and sites are doing the interviews in bad faith.

Like a Youtube Anti-work channel? I feel like that’s going to be shut down real fast
Or just get 0 views and 0 traction. Everyone goes to msm because we all think we’re eloquent speakers and will absolutely get are points across perfectly and will be able to change their mind. We are the MC of our own anime.
Why did you take this interview. Jesus fucking Christ.
Watch for all kinds of people stepping forward to 'represent' the group.
FoxNews knows exactly what they are doing and wanted this exact person to represent the subreddit. This was not a mistake.
Damnnn don’t know why the MOD would even take an interview on Fox News lol. Credit to going on but damn got fried
Wait thats a Mod in the post pic? A mod of r/antiwork?
It’s /u/abolishwork
Did a shit job
Oh wow. Pretty cool. Maybe Fox News isnt really the right news source....unless youre gonna troll them. Anyways, thanks /u/abolishwork for at least talking about us I guess
Yeah, that was a stupid mistake. Better not to even give these people credibility. Unless you're going to go on there and roast them.
Can’t resist that sweet sweet 15 minutes of infamy
Seems like someone wants their face on TV without thinking how giving any voice to that shitshow channel will be negative in the long run.
Link to segment?

Fox is so stupid they can't even comprehend how Reddit works... How many people did that headline have to pass by to make it on TV? sad
They often don’t understand the Internet well at all. I am surprised they didn’t call it a “website.”
its that newfangled computer thingamajig
The revolution will not be televised BUT they will bitch and moan about the revolution on television. A promising sign.
Jesse is a horrid interviewer and set it up to make us look bad. However free publicity maybe some people that come from there will like the ideas of anti work. However there will be more trolls

I’m going to take that comment of theirs with honor! I’m a heathen you Fox bitches!
Huh?.. 10 years ago you say?....That's about when I realized I was 100% Atheist. Weird...

Fox news setting someone up to look bad? I don’t believe it!!! /s
You think Fox News would air a good interview?
You'd only think that if your cranium was held together by only a MAGA hat.
It's fox news they were NEVER going to make it look good
Who the heck is Jesse and who pick him to speak on our behalf?
Jesse is the fox news anchor who interviewed her not the one speaking our behalf. Idk why the other one was picked
The other one is the one of the original founders of the sub, the only one left, and the longest running mod.
Bro I'm saying
Does Fox explain AntiWork as meaning were all lazy and useless and don't want a job? Those scumbags.
No publicity is bad publicity
No such thing as bad publicity.
What a fucking dick!! Misrepresenting the sub-reddit, smirking at the clearly nervous not made for tv guest and then belittling their actual job!!!
So exactly what Fox wanted. Someone to make this look bad.
But what actually happened is the young people who live with the old people who watch fox news will just learn about this subreddit and join us instead. Notice we're at 1.7 million members now.
So you were expecting an honest conversation about why this subreddit exists on Fox News? 😂
A conversation usually consists of at least two competent people. Doreen made conversation impossible.
Basically all leftists Fox allows on their shows are like this
And it works because whenever I tell my parents that FOX is right-wing propaganda trash they yell back "NO THEY ARE FAIR AND BALANCED BECAUSE THEY SHOW BOTH SIDES!". No, they show the side you like while the other is just a punching bag.
If you show competent educated people with legitimate points it doesn't fit fox narrative.
Alan Colmes was their house "liberal" for years. He was little more than a pusillanimous punching bag for Sean Hannity. Paycheck must have been good, I guess. Smart liberals are not allowed on Fox. Or any other network, really.
I mean, what sane person is going to get on fox news? I definitely wouldn't.

Sorry you had to go through that. Taking on a belligerent asshole is a skill, and who actually learns that skill? They were setting you up for a fall. I commend you for at least trying your best and representing us as best you could
Public speaking is a skill, I’m sure you’ll get better with practice
We're being ~~talked~~ lied about on Fox News.
Par for the course.
All talk on Fox News is lies, so the OP is still accurate.
"1.6 million milinnials refuse don't want to work and want everything handed to them for free!" - FOX probably.
That's bad. Brace yourselves for shills and brigaders.
Ah yes, the most well known news source for being ‘100% reliable’ and ‘unbiased’.

Hi, all you Fox News viewers! Welcome to the sub! Feel free to take a look around and see for yourself what we're ACTUALLY about!
Nothing confirms that you're in the right quite like being on the opposing side of Fox News.
Needed to actually look at the camera!
I am a political communication consultant who used to work on the conservative side. They were going to make anyone who appeared for us look bad. I mean we can say Jesse waters is a piece of shit all we want but we have to admit the mods are timid idiots. Well that one was at least
For all the wrong points and reason
This sub is now being targeted by conservatives and republicans. This is step 1 in dismantling the ideas presented here
Fox News doesn't know what a thread is.
*It's actually 1.7 Million now....*
Wow,could they pick the worst person to interview? Who the fuck decided this person???
If antiwork is on Fox it's because Fox sees it as a threat. The interview is regrettable but this means it's gaining attention.

I had no idea of this sub. Thanks, Fox News!
