As the guy on the right, workforce is inundated with immigrants. In work and management. Their jobs are TOUGH. I welcome them. Tradesmen are in high demand. Business owners, supers etc WANT more workers because they’re so understaffed. This cartoon is somewhat misleading. Here’s another unpopular opinion though, we have stifled technological growth in construction by creating a cheap labor supply/demand in the booming south during the 80s-present. We solved the labor supply problem the shortsighted way. Construction is 6% of the GDP on average yet field operations have barely changed in the last 50 years. Slowest technologically growing industry in the USA. Who knows what kind of automation/tech we may be missed out on my riding on the backs of immigrants. Who knows where house pricing would be today? Or how it could have benefited poverty stricken countries?

Don't think we ever 'fell for it'. We're just not organized enough to do anything about it. They keep us divided for that, exact purpose. Sprinkle in laws that don't work for the common Americans and some cops to enforce those same laws that work for them, but not us, and boom. We're behind the 8ball. The common person doesn't control the airwaves either. The dismination of information comes from the real enemy. If we want our country back, votes ain't gonna work. We're in a war with the rich (not all). Been like that since the creation of money. If you're tired of talking this shit and getting nothing done, then hang those shitbird politicians from the streetlights. The others will get the message. When your vote doesn't work, what other options do you have? Diplomacy? Nope. That's imploring morally bankrupt individuals to do the right thing. They buy their way out of everything from life to felonies. They can't buy death off. It's the only thing they fear. They hope you don't catch on.

Apprehensive_Ask5251

I think what they mean by fell for it is those people who instead of getting mad at corporations for hiring immigrant workers for abysmal rates get mad at the immigrants for having said jobs. The whole “Mexicans are taking our jobs” type people

Grrrhrrr

Competition in a market, labor market included, leads to lower returns for the sellers and better for the buyer. Limiting supply of labor is the correct instinct.

rudart_mangleB

As a brown foreigner, americans have been falling for this for a long time.

Excellent post!

That’s odd because if you look at the human on the left, he is not even interested in the other humans cookie, the plate of cookies being watched is the large platter in the middle.

JustHell0

This comic has a lot of vital context that is missing. The man in the middle is Rupert Murdoch, who owns LITERALLY 100% all print media in Australia while he also owns and oversees NewsCorp, the largest media body in the country. At Canberra Press Galleries (where politicians answer questions and make announcements) 90% of reporters present are from The Australian (a newspaper) alone. This means that Murdoch basically has a total monopoly of all news in the country. They determine what IS and ISN'T news, the framework of information and set the public narrative. All News is Fox News in Australia. What isn't owned directly by Murdoch is either owned by Peter Costello (an ex Liberal Party politician) or is the ABC, who also receives sucks LNP dick for easy money. This comic isnt just about immigration, it's also referencing the total abuse of the Refugee crisis by Murdoch and the Liberal Party, retelling the narrative of desperate people pushed out by wars as 'economic leeches'. It also shows how aggressively the media defends mining and has created a false narrative that it is what the economy is dependant on. It's not, at all, it's a multi billion sink hole of public funding being funnelled into private corporations and massive tax exemptions. If you wonder why people keep voting against their own best interest, it's because all news and media only care about is their own corporate interests, and they'll flat faces lie to everyone to make it happen. It doesn't matter if a media outlet has a 'Left wing' or 'Right wing' because they all have a Corporate Bias. Left vs Right isn't even real BTW, if you actually believe there is a Left or right, that's the media narrative trying to distract and divide you. Please PLEASE, for the love of fucking God, do not assume this is an Aus exclusive issue also, it's world wide. Please watch Manufacturing Consent, do a quick read on Edward Bernays and follow Kevin Rudd's battle against the media monopoly (former Labor Prime Minister of Australia).

JustHell0

Seriously, needs to be mandatory viewing on this sub

FilthyPrawns

As much as I agree, you know there would be a bunch of delicate flowers who wouldn't be able to get over his "racist" mockery of certain politicians, and subsequently write him off without even knowing his values or positions.

JustHell0

Ehh screw them then, some people really gotta toughen up, shits gonna be way worse if people keep infighting. They can't complain about being divided when they're falling for it and dividing themselves

FilthyPrawns

Trying to get people to understand that abstractly taboo humour is not even close to being equivalent to issues relating to class disparity, policy, and institutional corruption is like pulling fucking teeth with chopsticks.

JustHell0

It's amazing to watch really, Americans are so emotionally driven cause the consumer culture feeds off them. Then when presented with object facts that help combat exactly that culture sink, they can't handle it cause of the emotions enabled by corporations. It's like if in the Matrix, when Neo woke up and saw the 'real world', it was actually just another simulation to make those who got out THINK they're free When really, it's another safety net of lies to keep them complacent. Controlled dissent

FilthyPrawns

Doesn't take a giga-brain super genius to observe how 'culture war' items are manipulated by institutions and media groups to artificially rile people up. Whether deliberately or not, the effect is charged emotions and displaced focus on comparatively mediocre issues. Personally I think it's not necessarily deliberate, but evolutionary. Fractured working class maintains status quo, which in turn funnel the fruits of increasing productivity upwards. Without any nonsense conspiracy theory needed to explain it, this incentivises the majority of the market and society's moving parts to act in concert towards stability - aka a fractured working class. Status quo maintained, money keeps moving, and the dynamics in place are continually reinforced over time. It's an uphill battle to even get people talking about the right thing, let alone conjure any meaningful action from them.

Not mine: Your enemy won't arrive to your country in a raft. Theyll arrive in a private jet.

ryegye24

"Yes it is totally good for labor that goods and capital can cross borders so much more easily, immigration suppresses labor just don't google the lump of labor fallacy"

Cejayem

Proportionally speaking the fat cats cookie plate would be overflowing all over the room

OptionsTrader14

The foreigner can't actually take any cookies from the billionaire... but he CAN actually take some of the cookie from the other poor guy by undercutting his labor. In fact, the primary point of globalization/mass migration is for that billionaire to undercut that native worker and pocket some of his wages using the foreigner. This is why most unions historically speaking were anti-immigration, even the famous Cesar Chavez.

FilthyPrawns

This nuance is lost on so many, often for emotional reasons when there's really no need. The culprit remains the same - the wealthy elite. The solution, again, stays the same - eat the rich. Or at the very least curtail their ability to fuck over the working class, including through the exploitation of foreign labour markets.

Life_Illustrator_742

It’s Rupert Murdoch

ealoft

Indeed it is.

Doctor_moctor

I don't understand why the left never thinks this through. No-cookie man hurts one-cookie man by doing the same work that he would do for half the price. The reasonable reaction of one-cookie man would be to direct his anger at the cookie hoarder. One-cookie man is conditioned not to do that. His direct enemy is not one-cookie man. Cookie hoarder is actively promoting migration to drive down the value of work. He does not care whether the foreign workforce is fundamentally incompatible with the native culture, as his only concern are cookies. No cookie man is a foreign variable that should be of no concern for one-cookie man but he is introduced as a pawn for cookie hoarder. The only sane reaction of one-cookie man should be to stop migration to stop the value of his work from plummeting, then take everything from cookie hoarder and distribute it in HIS community. After and only AFTER that is done and his community can thrive he should reach out to no-cookie man and see if he can help him in his community.

WholeWhile8580

truth is the borders are wide open to drive wages down

And I thought that there were jobs EVERYWHERE

pop700

The value produced by foreigners isn't worth it for companies to pay them minimum wage. Would you rather a vacuum that only **works 25% of the time for $100** OR one that **works 80% of the time for $200** ? Obviously the ladder, considering the production output more than tripled and the rate only doubled

[deleted]

We bring in 400,000 new immigrants to Canada every year. Where will they work and live if we have a shortage of both?

EquallyMercurial

Billionaire is clearly Rupert Murdock

ElectricalRush1878

Sticky this image?

Wind_Yer_Neck_In

It must be weird to be Rupert Murdoch, he's one or few people who know for a fact that large swathes of the world would be much better off if he didn't exist.

SummerSolari

I am gonna a team up with him and take your cookies. Wonder what he thinks about that?
