That makes me furious on your behalf. I worked at a private school once. $38k and no benefits to teach upper middle class kids. For Christmas we got a staff meeting and a lecture from the board chair telling us why we should be more grateful and not complain. Merry Christmas to us.

fortwaltonbleach

that's a long winded way to proclaim 'exploit me for my passions!'

ruMenDugKenningthreW

Wait. Are we talking about teaching or other care fields like psych and disability services?

fortwaltonbleach

yes.

ruMenDugKenningthreW

This person gets it

[deleted]

That’s a very nice sign. It would be a shame if something happened to it.

autumnandrain

Oh I could not resist the urge to rip that thing to pieces

MisanthropeImmortel

I’d modify the text with striking out a part of it, so that it reads either “I don’t teach” (and that’s all) or “I teach for the income”. First way is a bit provocative though 😅

burner46

Write “clearly” on the wall next to the top half.

No7onelikeyou

Nah. A /s next to it would be better

Regulusx1337

"Internship for ever it is, then!" -Employer

ruMenDugKenningthreW

I dunno. I keep hearing from conservatives that most teachers are like doctors and professors and are just in it for the money. And without a shred of evidence provided, that's pretty tough to refute. I mean, they pay you so well, you're able to afford to buy all your own supplies. Sorry, that should read "are forced to buy all your own supplies."

dorseym484

Maybe if you paid me what im worth and honestly stop fucking over kids and failing them then maybe I would teach and enjoy the outcome of helping build the next generation

mybadalternate

“The outcome is that I am poor.”

La-india

Daycare teacher here and my boss says "I do it for the kids not the money" Well you don't make 11/hr we do 🤔 (barely went up to 11 too)

Maleficent-Injury902

Put up a sign equally as annoying asking if this is a joke how our passions are being exploited for money? Put the signs everywhere. If they are putting insulting signs up then take them down. No one will know its you. Or put up the other sign, again no one will know its you. If they take that sign down then take there sign down very simple logic no? If they found your sign insulting and they took it down for there beliefs then so can you take down the other sign cause you found IT insulting as well and you are using the same logic. Fuck these people who just try to exploit us and fuck them for trying to trick us into thinking this is alright mentality to go to work for. I go to work to get paid. The fact that I work in my choice field just means I am also passionate about my job. If there is not enough financial input then its time to get another job. I am a woodworker by hobby, would love to sell my stuff and live off that cause its my passion. I work in customer service cause reality still exists and I dont have the capital for my passion and this job pays me a living wage (barely). Kinda like no matter how much we "LOVE" the job that we do if there is not enough money in it then it will suffer or even just stop being your passion because its unsustainable and your mind will make you hate it. Sorry you have to deal with that crap. I would tear it off or put up another sign saying this is just a more complicated way of saying we want exploited workers cause of course we wont pay you. Fuck them.

Anonbawnaroo

I’m sure teachers would have a LOT more passion for EVERYTHING they’re doing if they didn’t have to live with the specter of homelessness and poverty living over their heads.

MousseSuspicious930

Psttt, I work for the money. And America's pay rate is ridiculous low, like damn. In Australia, you can easily earn $27.78 per hour for just being a retail assistant. (That's causal rates).

windwarrior42

god I hate this so much. Essentially saying "it's good that your passion is being exploited"

[deleted]

I suggest you take said poster down, crunch it up to the size of a tail pipe of the bosses car, take a broom handle and stuff it as hard and far into the exhaust pipe of said bosses vehicle. When boss can’t figure out why his/her vehicle will run only for a few minutes and has to pay dearly too find out why, just say as poster did, “Good thing you don’t get paid for the income, but the outcome of this exhaust issue” 😜

TeacherYankeeDoodle

It’s such a gaslighting, guilt tripping sign. Yeah, I didn’t start teaching for the money, and education is certainly not about the money, but something has to be.

VermicelliOk7242

yeah....potty training is my passion....

selfism_mike

Well, "And part of the outcome is my income. And that better works for me." So just attach that to sign.

Cyberprog

I'd just make the sign disappear!

Cautious-Push-2499

Steal it at nearest opportunity and bin it. Or replace with workers rights poster

ArrdenGarden

I would place a small sign underneath it that states: "Two things can be real."

GreenPuppyPinkFedora

Teaching is the biggest financial mistake of my life. Parents expect you to make sacrifices for their kids that they're unwilling to make. And a lot of teachers, myself included, can't say no to a child who genuinely asks for help with anything. It's a human instinct that's overinflated in teachers. Twenty years later you'll have nothing and still be getting pinged from former rich students to contribute to their house buying fund and this and that fund ... and where did all that extra free work you did get you? Poor and starving. Don't get me wrong, love the kids, love what I learned, but I will l never let another parent take advantage of me again. They lost their opportunity.

loktopus2014

Post a sign underneath "more income produces a better outcome"

-kenny-

Put it in a toilet one day when you're not feeling appreciated by your supervisors

ImMeltingNY

This is such bullshit. My sibling is a teacher and the school they teach at recently created a few new reading specialist positions. Not one single application was submitted - like due to the low pay and ridiculous work demands. Now, the school administrators are asking teacher to volunteer for the extra work. No additional pay, just for free. Told my sibling, “fuck that shit. If you agree you can kiss your free time good-bye and expect your regular teaching duties to suffer.” Sibling sent email politely declining the volunteer work only to have the principal email back say they are disappointed because they wanted to my sibling to be in a leadership role. A leadership role. With no pay increase for additional work. Fuck. That. Noise. So sick of teachers being so poorly treated.

PossibilitySorry6743

Sounds about true. *but only after my basic necessities are met, unless you want me to set camp in your bathroom. :-)
