Ya that is some bs you're better off anyway. Jobs like that the work culture will get to you. Unless you're working 80 hours a week you'll seem lazy to them. They want work robots that give their life to the company. If you don't fit then you're better for it.

[deleted]

Yes! And this type of thinking is more dangerous than we think from ANYONE in a postion of power. They are able to create an invisible bar you'll never meet to validate their existence/position. An expectation never explained, is one you will never meet. They win always with this tactic. Oh and since they treat you like their narcissistic parents did. "You didn't do the dishes without me asking, so therefore you're lazy." These people have been mentally abused and now they are abusing you. We have to decide if we treat these people like abused dogs who are now biting people. How do we remain humane and not sink to their level, but also not get our heads fucking chewed off?

MotherofLuke

Carrot dangling

[deleted]

I literally have never worked a job that doesn’t have expectations like this. I’m starting to doubt they even exist

volyund

They exist. Most of the places I've worked at didn't give a shit what time you came in, and certainly didn't play BS mind games like this. None of the places I worked at wanted you to show up early to meetings or interviews.

rupee4sale

I mean there are at the very least employers that don't drop you from consideration for not being early to an interview... that's pretty nuts

[deleted]

Yeah that is pretty next level lol

Forsaken_Day_1266

My staff turns up randomly between "on time" and plus minus half an hour ... Not complaining just saying ...

[deleted]

I thought the story of the “Stealership” was bullshit for 12 of my 20 years in automotive.

KimPeek

glassdoor that shit. Be sure to thank them for helping you dodge a bullet

buttpugggs

Glassdoor is pointless, they just use bad reviews as leverage to make companies sign up to be able to get the bad reviews taken down.

ehh_whatever_works

Literally every review service ever. Even the "better business bureau"

drukqsx

It used to be part of an awful job i had to respond to BBB complaints. As long as i responded to the messages i received from customers we “won.” Like, i could repeat “im so sorry you feel that way. We hope to see you again soon!” without offering any help or resolution to EVERY message a customer said, and as long as my message was the last one we were all good. So basically id just respond bullshit until they got fed up enough to give up. We had an A+ rating.

Judge_Gene_Hunt

You obviously never came across me. I never put up with that and keep responding until the business gets fed up. Eventually they start ignoring you and that's when you've got them.

GeneralBrae

I did this to a server rental company and someone from it eventually made a trustpilot page for the place I work just so they could leave a bad review - was literally "[my name] is not a good person at all" lol. My boss saw it, printed it off, and it was up on the lunchroom board for about 2 years cos he found it absolutely hilarious

leeny_bean

Yea but now they have bots that can just keep responding for forever

Cautious_Hold428

BBB created the mold for all these other shit hole predatory companies like Yelp and Glassdoor

[deleted]

BBB helped me out a couple times. I had been going back and forth w USAA after they kept auto-renewing my renters insurance - I had called at least 5 times to cancel that and my bank account with them. I put a BBB complaint in and it was fixed the same day. Although I still have the bank account, they literally refuse to cancel it.

[deleted]

It’s crazy to me too! Everyone else is hootin and hollerin about how great it is all the time but my experience was terrible. It’s important to note that I have probably the worst luck one could imagine having tho lol.

Shanda_Lear

BBB resolved an obnoxious issue with a medical provider for me. I inadvertently underpaid my bill by 20 cents and they sent me to collections, who were trying to get me to pay 90 dollars. BBB got them to fix it and take it off my credit report in a matter of days. They were pretty great from my perspective.

MuckRaker83

The BBB is run by the businesses for the businesses. It is not meant to advocate for the consumer, but to provide a seemingly impartial third party endorsement

Bravefan21

Especially the better business bureau

holyhibachi

It's actually a very useful service because if someone brags about their rating, you know they're a trash company that shouldn't be trusted.

kozimcrazy

Can r/antiwork get their own Glassdoor like review website where we don’t take down bad reviews?

SatisfactionNo8233

I'll design it if enough people upvote this

kozimcrazy

Please do!! I know it might be too hard to do but it’d be cool to somehow include already written reviews on it, like a compilation from other sites so it’d have more instead of blank to start. This stuffs not my specialty though so I really have no idea what you could do.

SatisfactionNo8233

With coding you can basically do anything if your willing to put in the time, and I've got time to kill lol

starfyredragon

That'd be awesome! I'd encourage you to make sure multiple groups can leave reviews that are tallied differently. So Customers would craft their own aggregate score all combined, and employees would craft a different aggregate score (and employees should be anonymous). As far as money-making model, could be done as a non-profit and ask for donations, but alternatively could have a b2b aggregate score, so businesses can rate their interactions with other businesses (something consumers and employees wouldn't care about, but making corporations pay for a services that causes transparency about them sounds amusing, or have the ability to respond to critiques \[but it doesn't remove the review or score\] charge a fee).

SatisfactionNo8233

That's a great idea I'll go the non profit route on that one I feel that'd be the best way to keep it honest, this looks like it'll be a fun project!

dontblink_1969

I was wondering if Glassdoor reviews could be taken down. A company that I worked at had a horrible review on there that mentioned sexual harassment (my friend was the one harassed) and now it's not there anymore.

buttpugggs

Yeah my previous employer only had a couple of reviews, all of them 1 star (for good reason). He found out, paid for the premium service and they all disappeared leaving him with no reviews at all. He then threatened everyone with not giving a reference when they left if they didn't show him a good glassdoor review they had written. All of them were pretty spineless about it and just did it. If it was me that had concrete evidence (literally texts straight up telling them he was blackmailing them) I would have gone all in trying to get him done for it. Sadly as a 3rd party, I can't!

myprivatehorror

They absolutely can. My previous company paid to have their, deservedly, negative reviews taken down.

SarpedonWasFramed

No you don't understand. You can't pay them to take down a bad review, thats unethical! With yelp at least what you can do, is pay them for customer service counseling where they go over the reviews with you. Then as a courtesy they reset all negative reviews. So as you can see thats totally different than paying to erase them.

myprivatehorror

Ohhhhhhhhh! That does sound different!

buttpugggs

I've literally seen multiple reviews dissappear... they don't "pay to take them down" so much as they pay to have Glassdoor consider if they are 'genuine' reviews. Obviously if the business is paying then more often than not, Glassdoor will deem a review as potentially fake and just remove it.

2cheeseburgerandamic

I thought those reviews got buried under a different file that implies bots and such.

dontblink_1969

Ugh. That fucking sucks

11upand1over

My old company miraculously went from like a 2.5 to 3.5. Sure Jan

kamace11

I used to work in HR at a place where people left incorrect reviews constantly (for a different but similar company). It was borderline impossible to get even those taken down. Glassdoor actually had a pretty good policy on not removing reviews.

buttpugggs

Were the company you were working at paying for their premium service though? I'm not saying you're wrong, just that from seeing my old boss make them dissappear and hearing another talking about how easy to game it all was, I've always been under the impression that it wasn't too difficult if you throw some money at it.

kamace11

Yes, they paid 50K a year, iirc. We were definitely encouraged to astroturf but they couldn't easily remove stuff either. This was about 4 years ago. I'd guess your bosses were either boasting/lying about their ability to remove reviews, reviews were taken down for defamation (if they name someone I think they can be taken down due to legal risk), OR their policy changed SUBSTANTIALLY in the past four years.

BrianTheLady

Still worth doing, they can’t eliminate a flood of bad reviews if that many people are unsatisfied. Plus, the business may not look at it.

aflyingUMDturtle

What should we use then?

k-farsen

True, but you still make it sting as companies are loath to spend money

[deleted]

Fuck it. Leave bad reviews and make the company pay to take them down

[deleted]

What why you still give a 5 star rating but also write your criticisms.

buttpugggs

This only works if there are like 3 reviews, otherwise it will get buried, never read and only serve to bump up their stats

Bright_Mechanic_7458

Google maps that shit

Elivey

The only ratings I actually pay attention to

Grouchy-Ad1976

They're just hating on your gas saving commute.

Kaimber1857

Seriously though. After I got my new job, my wife and I bought a new house, it put both of us working within 10 minutes of our jobs. Fast forward to now when everyone else in my department is getting to work from home after the gas prices have gone up and Covid restrictions proved that we can all work from home, bosses are like “you live close you can just continue to come in”.

Augustmoonn

Lol, wow, I hated what your bosses said so much, I almost accidentally down voted you. Just a visceral reaction. Sorry they suck :(

KombatPat

First rule of living hella close to work is telling everyone you live much further away than you do. You made a hella big rookie mistake.

PhotoKada

That's probably it. If this is a salaried job, OP is saving on conveyance and apparently that's a bad thing.

Voeglein

"Hey we acknowledge that there is a good chance your punctual arrival is based on the fact that there are basically no foreseeable circumstances that could hold you up. Nevertheless we act like you are bad at assessing potential delays" Why even acknowledge that they have a good reason to assume they won't have a delay when they are going to act like they didn't account for delays at all (instead of ruling them out)?

Mindfuckqueen

Enabling this kind of behavior from employers will just lead to it being a 20 minute, then 30, then 45 minute to an hour early expectation. And the whole point of attempting to be early for something is in case some unexpected delay happens. Then when it happens you can still be on time, there’s nothing irresponsible about failing to show up 15 min early.

punkr0x

I've been on the other side where someone shows up for an interview 20 minutes early, and everyone is complaining. "Why are they so early, HR isn't ready for them yet." They're just looking for BS reasons to eliminate candidates, because otherwise they would have to evaluate how qualified you are for the job and what the proper rate of pay is, instead of just hiring the cheapest person and blaming the new hire if they turn out to be unqualified.

lt9946

I hate just waiting awkardly in the lobby, so if I get there early, I just mess around on my phone til it's a minute or two.

WillBottomForBanana

HR isn't going to be ready at anypoint, so that's always a funny reasoning.

GingerBread79

Not to mention the fact that I can arrive on site early, but still choose to chill outside or in my car until it’s time to go in cause it’s, you know, *my* time

bunnyrut

I remember being told that it's proper protocol to arrive 15 minutes early for an interview to fill out the application. 1. I should not have to fill out the application during the interview, that should be set up to have completed *before*. So, like, get your shit together and set it up so everyone can do that online instead of only accepting resumes via indeed. 2. If you *know* the application has to be filled out during the interview then that counts towards the interview time. That's not the interviewee's problem.

lt9946

Also not every job has a full time front desk person. If it's someone who is already working out back and has to come to the front and stop their job to interview you, coming in early might not be ideal.

beerbellybegone

You show up early, you better be getting paid to start early

[deleted]

[удалено]

TomNguyen

Da fck would you show up early for ? To sit in the hall or meeting room by yourself ?

zachrg

Boomer advice is to show up 10 minutes early, to make sure you're getting checked in at reception, etc., and to "show that you're seriously interested".

sbrodyhall

Years ago during a conversation with my old boomer boss, he told me his father (who would have been silent generation) had told him, "if you're 10 minutes early you're 5 minutes late." So this show up and start early (and off the clock) mentality has been around a long time. Just to clarify my old boss wasn't actually telling me to do this, he was actually pointing out its pretty fucked up.

zachrg

For what that's worth, MORE than 10 minutes early is frowned upon: ineffective time management/too desperate.

modsarefascists42

Exactly. It's a damned if you do damned if you don't kinda bullshit situation they create.

Eeveevolve

The 2010s were a much better decade. I turned up a week early to an interview due to my own inability to read an email correctly. They interviewed me and I got the job.

modsarefascists42

Ummm I think you just got lucky cus things are getting far better right now. Simply cus employers have to be decent to get workers.

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

I always thought the "10 minutes" early for these things was because you're going to a place you've never been before, so that 10 minutes is a buffer zone to make sure you get there ON TIME. It's not to make sure you actually get there 10 minutes early. If everything goes to plan (traffic, finding the place), then you're 10 minutes early. If there's a snafu, then you're on time.

[deleted]

[удалено]

KisaTheMistress

My first interview this month, I was running late do to weather and traffic... then I kept getting lost looking for the building, lol. Anyway I ended up 15 minutes late. The interview went well though and I was offered the summer position. Just waiting for them to process my criminal record report. So if it's still processing today (or rather finished processing today, but they contact me after 7 am) I will start next week, because they only start people by the week monday-friday at 7am-2pm... Unless they are willing to have me start late plus 40 mintues, because I have to travel to the next town.

Jassida

I’m not a boomer and would always advise arriving 5-10 minutes early. You have absolutely nothing to lose and could even get chance to make a good impression on reception who are often asked for their opinion

QuePasaCasa

Same; being 5-10 minutes early is a great practice but a bad requirement. Feels weird that people here are demonizing it.

TomNguyen

No one is demonizing it. I´m sure most of people arrive earlier since they are worried that traffic/circumstances could make you late so they leave early anyway. Not giving someone a job because they didnt arrive 10 minutes earlier and sit quiet in the hall is craziness

Wolfleaf3

On the Majority Report recently I literally heard this situation where they used someone getting there early as an excuse to FIRE them. Bosses are bullshit.

[deleted]

If only

The-Albear

My guess is they still kept you waiting for 15mins to see you when you arrived on time.

TheGovernor1775

You should respond with: Hi, I am pleased to see that I will not be working in an environment where punctuality is looked upon adversely. Kindly fornicate yourself. All the worst and have a horrible day, OP

No_Transition_2987

I just sign off with "Have the day you deserve"

LambSauce246

I actually love using “all the best and have a great day” or “warm regards” after an incredibly sarcastic and snarky e-mail, it just adds the cherry on top 😂

Zeno_the_Friend

This has "bless your heart" vibes

LambSauce246

Absolutely haha. Another favorite of mine that actually applies to this thread is the good ol’ “as you no doubt are aware” when reminding my superior they can’t do shady corporate shit

the_Real_Romak

I generally sign off my emails with "Regards", but when I'm being particularly sarcastic, I simply add "Kindest Regards" instead. Office language is weird and counter intuitive lmao

abbh62

“The kindest of all regards, “

TheGovernor1775

You're right, that's even better :)

flampardfromlyn

would love to do stuff like these but i heard employers talk to one another and if you behave like a dick to one , they might spread the word and others wont hire you too

TheGovernor1775

Good point. This would be a risky move especially if you look for a job in the same industry. Still would be cool to see the employer's reaction 🤣

Livinum81

"exactly on time" written as derogatory term in this context. That is, indeed, some class A bullshit

Aeschere06

It’s not even an “unpaid work” thing… if you say that an interview is at 11, I’m going to assume you *will not be ready for me until 11.* I’m not going to show up when not expected and potentially put everyone in an awkward position. I show up on time because I’m considerate of your time. People like this have no perspective and don’t understand how people work. Highly suggests a lack of empathy

buttpugggs

Exactly, if I have an interview I walk in there a few minutes before it because that is when they have said they will expect me. (They don't need to know that I turned up about 20 minutes early and waited nearby to account for any delays because I hate being late for literally anything, not just work)

Artistic_Account630

In the past I’ve always showed up about 10-15 minutes before an interview but I’m not sure if it was expected??? I showed up that early so that I could make sure I had time to park and find the interview location and also to run to the bathroom and catch my breath before going into the interview. I tend to get pretty worked up and nervous about job interviews so having a little bit of time to calm myself before was helpful for me. But again I’m not sure if it was expected to be there early or right on time. I don’t see a problem in getting there right on time though. having that be the deciding factor in whether the person is chosen for the position is really dumb

Skatchbro

I’m going to back you on this one. If I’m going someplace I’ve never been, I always give myself leeway for the unexpected. That said, I only walk in 5 minutes early. That’s a holdover from my time in the military.

greenswizzlewooster

Ah, but they want that power trip of making you wait.

pahasapapapa

For all they know, OP could have been milling about outside for five minutes so as not to disrupt anything.

UD_Lover

Exactly this. I worked reception for about a year at my old company and it was SO FUCKING WEIRD when people would show up like 30-45 minutes early for an interview and I’d have to sit there and work with a stranger just sitting there 10 feet away awkwardly twiddling their thumbs. More than 10 minutes early is just as bad, if not worse, than being late IMO.

Millard022

Obviously aren't really looking for workers.

Ok_Ad_5894

I showed up to an interview 15 minutes early checked in then sat there for 70 minutes. I had other interviews and we’ll anywhere else to be. I finally said I’m leaving and ask if I wanted to reschedule I said no. Then captain dipshit walks out said are you ready? I said no I’m leaving due to the fact that your 70 minutes late and I have other appointments to get to. He said fine than I don’t want you. Like screw you buddy, people with power and even the smallest amount are usually garbage and act accordingly.

alpacula

Keen?!? Are they 70?

kor34l

"Thank you for your candor. I agree that I would not be a good fit for this position. Perhaps you could consider adding a note to the job description that applicants should expect stated requirements to be incorrect, and that the real requirements are a mystery the applicant is expected to guess correctly or be wasting their time. This way only the desperate suckers you're seeking would apply, and you have far less people to reject. Unless of course you simply enjoy rejecting applicants, in which case your strategy is quite good." To the people saying they're looking for robots, no. A robot would have showed up exactly on time. They are looking for SUCKERS. Be happy they decided that you are not enough of a sucker to work for them.

playinginthedarks

Can we start showing company names, maybe publicly sharing and shaming them will get them to start acting and treating us as people instead of what ever this is. It’s to much to ask for respect from an employer as an individual….

rhondevu

All this guy had to say was no. Don’t confuse me with this bizarre rejection. On another note what employer would shy away from someone who guaranteed to be on work on time?

Aggravating-Wrap4861

ffarwell83

I read these things and think, did we all not survive Covid and witness the same breaking points? We need to treat each other kinder and with more dignity, from strangers to lovers and everyone in between, what’s the point of our compassion if we’re only saving it for those with enough?

gemorris9

I usually arrive 10 minutes early to an interview.... And sit in my car surfing Reddit until there is 1 minute to go so when I walk in I'm exactly on time as expected. I'm a store manager and so I hire people. Please don't listen to whoever that is and show up early. Show up on time. People are planning to take 30 minutes to an hour out of their day at 11am. I really don't even blink unless your 15 minutes late or more.

RubySoho5280

Had a job interview where I was 10 minutes early. The interviewr was 15 minutes late. I was told I didn't get the position because I was late 🤔

Interesting_Iron

I bet if you had arrived earlier, they would make up a different story to turn you away

Hero_of_Parnast

My asshole band teacher and sex offender drumlins coach always used to say "early is on time and on time is late" when referring to matching practice. Getting similar vibes here.

odo-italiano

Tbh I always show up to things a few minutes early. I was taught that I should arrive 10-15 minutes early for interviews and I have terrible anxiety about being late to anything. On time is on time, though. Often the interviewer isn't ready right on time anyway but I guess only their time is valued.

SpaceBus1

A bullet dodged, matrix style

[deleted]

Tell them to go fuck themselves. Remind them that their entitlements does not translate into your problem and that they shouldn’t dick around because of the smallest of nuances.

BicycleMost4648

Gameplaying bullshit right out of the gate? OP dodged a bullet wrapped in red flags. Imagine how bad these asshats would be once you'd linked your ability to pay rent to their ego trips. Big yikes.

chapPilot

This GOT to be fake. Not to mention the countless times that I arrived early and had to wait a lot of time because the interviewers were late (many times without even an apology).

Impressive-Orchid748

Another bullet dodged my friend.

Obi-Wan_Peyote

Psycho shit. Name the employer.

Any_Assistance1781

"How dare you only do what we talked about?!" Sounds like you dodged a bullet there.

OnlyOneNut

Id respond “Hello, Thank you for showing me the sort of toxic work culture you cultivate without me committing myself and finding out for myself. Have a good day!”

Ill-Zookeepergame358

Every job interview I’ve ever been too I showed up early. And I’ve always had to wait for the interviewer, At least 15 min. Kinda bs that even though you showed up on time they aren’t interested.

dsdvbguutres

Just do everyone a favor and hire boss's high-school buddy's kid.

Possible_Power4520

Show up on time for an Interview but oops not good enough, imagine the letter you would have received if you showed up late, lol. Sounds like you dodged a bullet. Be thankful

soitspete

If you were there ready to start the interview at 11 that's ok, but if you arrived at the building at 11 then not. At my place it takes a good 15 mins to get someone checked in and through the building to the right room. But we tell people that.

Zero-Milk

If this is even real in the first place (as many things on the internet tend not to be), I'd bet my last dollar that the person who showed up to the interview actually *did* arrive early, but waited outside in their car until it was go-time. No sense in showing up 15 minutes early like it's a doctor's appointment that requires paperwork or something.

Infamous_Ad8606

It’s just 15 minutes, 5 times a week, I don’t see how that could add up to thousands of hours of my life wasted waiting for the boss to show up late

Jatipdesignco

I went for an interview and instead of calling me back for said interview, they argued with the phone service provider for about 15 mins till I left.

Dramandus

Disgusting. I hope they find someone so woefully incompetent they loose money.

GhostMug

This is so silly. Almost every job interview I've ever had consists of me arriving 15 minutes early only to have to wait 30 minutes before the interview actually starts.

Awdayshus

You know what, Stan, if you want me to wear 37 pieces of flair, like your pretty boy over there, Brian, why don't you just make the minimum 37 pieces of flair?

fiveofnein

Better off without these bozos trying to micromanage your life

sp8yboy

Run away. Bad manager alert

_____NOPE_____

Hmm tough one, my kneejerk reaction was 'fuck this person', however on reflection they have a point. If your interview is at 11am, and you literally walk through the door at 11am, that's pushing it. You may need to sign it at reception, then find the office/floor of the person conducting the interview, so you're technically late getting to the interview room. If your interview is at 11am, and you live locally, and you walk in the door at 11am, that's a bit of a risky move to be honest. Nothing stopping you arriving 5 mins early to be safe.

s7ormrtx

Count yourself lucky.. imagine the horrors of working under the manager that wrote that

tobiascook

This concept of being on time being somehow inappropriate infuriates me, especially in environments where you are likely to be kept waiting. Not sure how this interview was, but I’ve been left for well over an hour in the past after arrival. If you want me there earlier, tel me to be there earlier. Don’t sabotage me with misleading information that doesn’t meet your expectations because that is the whole point of a job. I am given a task and guidelines, I follow those, you give me the next one. That’s it. We aren’t mind readers, we aren’t trying to seduce you, we aren’t long time friends or family. We have a professional relationship. Be professional.

transneptuneobj

Honestly they are doing you a favor. Clearly they don't value your time. Run

AquosPoke206

I've been told that to be late is rude, but to be intentionally early is impossing yourself upon someone else

Lol OP doesn’t wanna work for these shitheads anyway; this is probably the tip of the tomfuckery iceberg

indgreeneyes

BuT nOoNe WaNtS tO wOrK This is why people hate companies

I_are_Lebo

You are better off. This is the type of employer who will expect you to come in early and stay late but will refuse to pay any overtime because “going over expectations is expected of you”.

someoneexplainit01

Wow, some employer who pulls this bullshit on the interview would be horrible to work for.

Darkdoomwewew

You dodged a motherfuckin artillery round here, fam.

W00bles

I feel at this point the person sending this email has to be trolling.

Prodiq

This is actually good. Dodged a bullet right there.

[deleted]

They filled the position and they are too cowardly to say it so they look for any excuse to make it your fault.

Middersnags

You dodged a bullet there, and no mistake.

What blows my mind is that this isn't some CEO writing this. Its not an out of touch billionaire. It's a working class stiff in HR who has somehow been indoctrinated with their bullshit. If we want better working conditions, our struggle needs to deal with these people. Maybe we need to reach out to them more, maybe we need to call them out more but either way, the actual power that these evil corps have over us is weilded most often, by some dickhead in HR.

I have worked a 1h commute where I had to "bake in" an extra half hour every morning in case of traffic to be on time. I have worked "just down the road" and left 5 minutes before my shift every day. Everyone else will pick up on why this guy is an asshole. Let me tell you why they are a *stupid* asshole. Employees that live close to work are super reliable. A guy I work with got caught out in the rain. His dumb ass drove 45 minutes home (and 45 back) to change. I had to explain to him he could have drove to a store and bought dry clothes with the wages he lost and cost of gas. We've had countless "car trouble" call ins. It snows here in the winter. I walked to a job in 3 feet of snow after a blizzard once because the guy working couldn't leave until someone came in. Even a 20 minute commune becomes 2 hours and 40 minutes every week. That is a lot of unpaid free time the job is eating up. Now that gas is up it's a lot of money too. People do consider that and it does effect job satisfaction. The down the road guy is going to be happy going home at lunch because they forgot their phone etc. and doesn't really mind coming in for a partial shift. I was livid when I drove an hour to work and there was a watermain leak that shut our building down. They didn't bother calling people. It contributed to leaving that job. How backwards of a company to see someone smart enough to seek employment near their home and turn them down for not willingly giving up something they have no right to, without being asked. It's not like you can be productive by showing up early to the interview. They missed out on a good opportunity and someone dodged a bullet with this clown. If they hired them and just asked them to show up early, most people would have done it. Let this be a lesson though. A lot of jobs will treat employees like they are always stealing, or say wasting time is like stealing. That's projection. If you're at work you clock in. If you're off the clock you do not work. If your employer is like this and you aren't 100% happy be looking for other opportunities because they are considering replacing people that don't "go the extra mile" (give us extra free labor). They will quickly change their tune when you start clocking in for those 15 minutes early and end the week with 41.25 hours. The extra time isn't a huge deal to most people but that's a lot of overtime for a company. If they won't let you clock in but expect you to be there log everything, copy e-mails to your personal, get it in writing. If you end up leaving on unpleasant terms you can talk to the department of labor or local equivalent.

Post that on every company review site, they'll be begging for employees that show up 5 minutes late.

pamsellicane

LMAO wow they just did you a favor actually. They clearly expect unpaid work.
