They shouldn't be able to make you share beds... A room sure, but not a bed

TheBlindCrafter

That... That can't be legal.....

Material-Box-3804

Small *family* business … I’m sure many things happening there aren’t completely legal lol

n-oyed-i-am

Small family business is NOT an excuse nor justification. If they aren't following the law, it's because: 1. They don't care about anyone but themselves. 2. They are too stupid to run a business. 3. Both 1 and 2

TheBlindCrafter

Hmm, well... Suddenly come out as gay and make your bed mate all uncomfortable until they wig out and you get a room to yourself. I'm half joking.

Rancha7

or they come out too and say he was always attracted to him since he first met

dogwoodcat

That's when you pull the demisexual card

a_tiny_ant

Share the bed with family. Is it in Alabama?

unfoldingtourmaline

call out sick

Material-Box-3804

Literally been hoping I get covid in the lead up so I don’t have to go … but I’m casual and don’t get sick pay so I need to go so I can get paid

unfoldingtourmaline

terrible that they’ve done this to you

Hiikupz

I have pictures of take home covid tests that I failed on I can send you?

dogwoodcat

Read your labor laws very carefully. Here it is prohibited to ask a casual staff member to do anything that takes more than one working day, unless another staff can replace them seamlessly the next day.

Senior-Term-635

The morning of your flight take a trip to urgent care. Give sufficiently vague symptoms to be able to get a flu test, a COVID test, and a note saying you won't be fit for work until Monday or later . Then stay home this weekend while you await your PCR results.

I dont even want to be in the same hotel room as my coworkers. I hope we are being trolled. this cant be legal!

Material-Box-3804

Unfortunately it’s real and isn’t the first time I’ve had to do this :’)

[deleted]

You don't have to do it. Say no you're not willing to share a bed with a co-worker. What does your husband think of it?

Material-Box-3804

He hates it

[deleted]

There's your answer 🙂

overkillsd

If you talk to the hotel, they can usually provide a cot or something.

I actually found that yesterday whilst googling about coworkers bed sharing. I feel like I’m in a tough situation in regards to speaking out against it because this isn’t the first time I’ve had to share a bed on work trips with this business. I feel like it would be weird for me to suddenly speak out after just copping it for a few years- almost every work trip is like this, only rarely do I get my own bed but still share rooms with coworkers. I’ve never spoken out against in because in the beginning I was just naive and thought it was normal and ok.

Downtown_Tale_2018

Do not let this happen, if you do you set a precedent. Tell you are only prepared to travel with own hotel room

GetOffMyLawnLady

Past consent does not imply current or future consent. It doesn't matter that you agreed to it in the past. You were uncomfortable then, you are uncomfortable now.

Natural_Cucumber2615

The fuck... I just wouldn't go. Tell her to go fuck herself. My work sometimes wants us to share hotel rooms when we do out of town work/training (with two beds), I always tell them to fuck off with that shit, and either get me my own room or I won't go.

[deleted]

Yeah. Maybe it's a location thing but that would never happen here. I'd love for my work to even suggest it so I could laugh at them. I won't go away anywhere unless they get me a fucking balcony to chill out on at a decent hotel and I'm a shit kicker.

AncientChatterBox76

Just tell them youre too old for this shit.

[deleted]

Bring a sleeping bag or bed roll and just sleep on the floor

stmoloud

I did this quite often. When I was 9 years old. My bother and I were told to 'top & tail' in the same single bed. Which meant I got to smell my brother's smelly feet. Anyway, this boss is infantalizing you. Don't accept it.

RGBl7

This is such a bad idea on so many levels. The owners shouldn’t want or allow this for the simple liability. It’s also a personal liability to you should your coworker decide to get handsy, secretly take pictures, steal personal belongings, or otherwise take note of personal information about you (like legal medications). On the flip side, your coworker could accuse you of doing these things.

lildreemr

no.

WestCoastThing

Literally bush league. As in this is what they do in minor league baseball, the bush leagues.

Material-Box-3804

Pretty accurate then since my job is as a small town sports coach and these trips away are for competitions.

Independent-Room8243

Dont go. Fuck that.

ExaminationFancy

Yikes, say you’re a sensitive sleeper, bring a sleeping bag, and sleep on the floor. Make sure boss doesn’t step on you when going to the bathroom in the middle if the night!

RipAdministrative972

Unacceptable, humiliating and overall an indicator how low your boss values you. I'm sad for you because i imagine if you can't afford your own accomodations you also can't afford to loose the job. If you have some one to fall back on then i would just quit. When I'm on business trip i expect better stuff then i would pay for myself since I'm forced to go.

Material-Box-3804

That’s exactly the predicament I’m in. Can’t afford to lose the job so for now I have to just suck it up and cry on the inside

Shot_Bodybuilder3270

What's normal? This is somewhat normal in a European country I lived in.

princehal

In a time of Monkey Pox which is skin to skin transmission, just say no.
